[Hint] Empty battery / flashing - Motorola Droid RAZR

Hey guys,
Just a small advice for those who didn't know.
If you want to flash another rom and you got a "battery low" in bootloader/ fastboot AP, don't be panic: make sure you've booted your device in fastboot mode. Then just press the power button shortly and the device will shut down completely. Now you can charge your device without any factory cable. You will also get the loading Stats displayed.

This works on bootloader version 0A.72 onwards

doesnt work for me unfortunately tried this before, never shows any stats. guess it would work for people who havent screwed up like me.

New Method?
spc_hicks09 From DroirRzr.com posted this. I'm trying it now, Will let you know how it goes.
Press and hold power and volume down until the screen flickers, release those buttons and quickly press all three side buttons (power, vol up and vol down). When the bootloader menu pops up, plug in the charger. Use the volume down button to scroll to the SBF option and use volume up to select it. Now press and hold the power button for about 3 seconds then release. This will automatically put your phone in the "powered down/charging" mode. Wait till the battery charges all the way then complete a fastboot. I just did this 3 days ago so I know it works.

This didn't work btw. Tried it and ended up having to force-charge the battery by opening the case and connecting the terminals with a stripped USB cable.

HELP! bricked my vibrant

i just flashed simply honey 3.8 via odin, i did back to stock before via odin (came from cm7) but after flashed simply honey, my phone stucked at rainbow screen sayin partition partition stupid partition, so i read that to get rid that rainbow i should flash gb bootloader, then i flashed the bootloader via odin, yeah the rainbow has gone but my phone keeps bootloping in vibrant and bullet screen then sayin partition2 bla bla, i can't get to odin with 2 button combo, it's just go to charging wtf, i can't even get to cwm via 3 buttons combo, help me guys, thx in advance
Have you tried
1. Start Odin
2. Plug USB cable into pc
3. Power off the Phone.
3. Pull the Battery.
5. Plug USB cable into Phone.
6. Press and Hold: Volume UP + Volume DOWN + Power, all at the same time.
7. Re-insert the battery.
8. The phone will power now, when the screen starts a cycle of going to a BLACK screen, release ONLY the POWER button.
9. When you see the download icon release the volume buttons,
10. Odin back to stock by putting the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
Just checking, did you take out your battery, unplugged the usb, put the battery back in, then held vol up, vol down, and power and released all three as soon as you saw the Vibrant logo?
and if that doesnt work try all the steps above but minus one step! hold down both volume buttons except power and see if that works!

It's not bricked, I know you're mad and frustrated, trust me, I've been there a million times!
Lets try taking out the battery and leave it out for 15 minutes. Reboot your computer and unplug every usb.
Then try the above steps again.

tried it, still my phone can't see the download mode screen, i can't bring it to t-mobile since i don't live in states
If you flashed the bootloaders then the mapping is different. Try power button and volume up without the usb plugged and with the battery in. That should get you in download mode.

You are not bricked. I just had the same thing happen flashing the light version with Rom Manager. Since you flashed the Bootloaders, the key combination has changed. Hold down the volume up and power key. Release when you see the vibrant logo-that should take you into red recovery. When there, go to voodoo, choose disable. It will tell you it is 'actually enable' and will be disabled next boot. So reboot and let it do its thing. When I did it the Android in space finally showed up.
EDIT: I'm pretty sure you don't need to go into download mode to reflash with odin, just disable the lagfix. If it doesn't boot into the Android, then volume down+power will take you into download and reflash after the lagfix is finished disabling.
EDIT 2: And with the Gingerbread bootloader, you can't go into download mode if plugged in anymore. It will not go past the charger like on the Froyo Bootloaders.
EDIT 3: Sorry got the key mapping backwards, lol here it is straight from the Bootloaders site.
Gingerbread Bootloaders - No Rainbow - Fully visible Recovery on all ROMs
Benefits - No more rainbows on Gingerbread 2.3 ROMs like Simply Honey GB, LiDroid, Asgard, etc.
Convenient Key Maps for entering Recovery and Download Modes. (I personally like these mappings over the Standard Vibrant Mapping as you can enter download mode directly without needing to turn off phone or remove battery etc...)
For Recovery - Lower Volume Key + Power Button
For Download - Upper Volume Key + Power Button

I'm impressed with your risk taking capabilities man... Dont know how old you are to Android, and I'm not commenting on that, but from what I see, you are just 15 posts old, and you managed to flash Bootloaders to your phone...
Do read the OP for possible solutions before you flash anything... That said, till you have a screen, its not a brick.
Flash the bootloaders, using the new key mapping, and then flash the ROM, you should be good to go !!!
maybe one of you guys can help me here
i have the rainbow screen and i cannot get computer to recognize phone. i have to get into download mode with a dongle and odin still does not recognize my phone. i cannot boot into recover as the screen is completely rainbowed out and I cannot see what I am doing.
Are there any suggestions on what to do from here?
Thank you

Can't get phone in to RSD

Hello all,
I know this is likely in the wrong place, but I can't post in the dev forum. I was attempting to SBF my phone to 2.3.4 to update to 2.3.5. I have used the exact same RSD and SBF file on this computer. Last time my battery died while SBFing and it became a big hassle. Regardless, I was able to finally get it done. I did it today and it failed at 9% and switched to BP Passthrough. I pulled the battery and tried to get it back in to RSD and try a different usb port. It will not bring up the fastboot/RSD menu. I hold down DN VOL and power and it just shows the Moto logo and then after maybe 20 seconds then flashes failed to boot4 and screen goes blank very quickly. I can not get it in to RSD to try again. My PC is Win7 x64, RSD 5.4.4, VRZ-MB870_4.5.1A-DTN-150-30_1FF_01.sbf.
Any suggestions?
I just seen yesterday someone posted a way to sbf with a cd instead of rsd lite. Maybe something you can try. Look here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406186
Ok thanks I'll look into that. any idea where you saw it?
Try holding power and volume up
That is the direct way to get into rsd mode
I don't know why every one good through the hassle of power volume down and going through the choices when power and volume up starts rsd mode without having to press anything else

Good point Ash that is how i get to it volume up and power. I posted the link back in my first post. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
So will it say RSD or anything or will it just go into it without saying anything?

Phone off, volume up and power hold until you see rsd. Should say it. Once you see it you are good to go.

Did that and it never says RSD. just shows the logo. I had 95% bat when I started and I tried to RSD once. So that should not have drained it that much should it?
Worth a shot to try a full battery
Know anyone with an x,atrix,x2,etc...I or a desktop charger?
As I was on the phone with VZW it started and went to FTB4 and then said started RSD. So now it is taking the update so far from a different USB Port
have you tried opening rsd and hooking your phone up to it to see if it auto magically recognizes the device....lol might get lucky.
Either that or try the other method that has shown up recently
Well I got it to take the SBF, but it bootloops as expected and it wont let me boot into stock recovery to clear the cache. Should I reflash?

Just let it loop for a while
---------- Post added at 06:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:06 PM ----------
And after like 15-20 mins pull battery and try to boot stock recovery
I don't know why but it now goes to Stock recovery and I'm going to delete cache and data about 50 times and hopefully it will work.
Thanks for all the suggestions and help.
Mods can you please erase this thread.
Somehow reflashing seemed to work. Thanks.
If this helps.
Charge the battery completely. Completely being part of the key.
Insert battery and boot holding power button and vol up key at the same time.
DO NOT release the keys if it does not attempt to boot into RSL quick mode. if the logo appears continue holding the keys till it loops like ash said, except continue to hold the keys thru at least two full boot loops.
On the last loop release the keys and depress the power button while removing the battery. Once the battery is out release the power key. It sounds crazy but it definately worked. Now reinsert the battery and but do not power on. Open and launc RSD on your pc. Connect cable. The connection of the cable will sometimes activate RSD. Power on phone using the quick RSD commands (Hold power button and vol up key.) And Walla!
I hope this helps. I had another person follow this exact same instructions and it worked for them as well.
When flashing fails in the middle of flashing due to power loss: Boot is whacked or corrupted. This usually works.

Low Battery charge in Ap Fastboot Fix

Hey guys, I recently found an alternative way to fix the low battery problem when your in AP Fastboot and able to get it to charge without the soldering of usb cable or the factory cable. So for those who do not want to open up their razrs or pay 40 bucks for a cable use my method.
-Make sure you have the charging cable connected to the phone and the cable to an outlet not an computer.
-While in the ap fastboot screen with the low battery problem, just push & hold Vol - and Vol+ and power buttons at the same time for 10 seconds
-Then IMMEDIATELY press and hold Vol - and Vol+ for 10 seconds to get back to the boot menu.
-Then once in the boot menu go down the the one option that has the word tools on it which is the last one.
-If it does not do anything just press volume up or down and go back to the tools and click power (enter) again.
-Then you should be boot to the M logo.
-Then after a bit you will be presented to an battery icon charging your phone!
-After a good charge up to 50% or so download the program called
New Link
http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/2248-droid-razr-utility-16-contains-612181-fastboot-files/
-Download that program and make sure your phone is back in AP fastboot and your battery should say OK meaning you can now program again.
-From there run the Droid RAZR Utility you just download it and choose option 1 and let it do its thing.
-Once done you should have the original stock rom and if you had root you must re-root it.
-Please message back for any questions! I am happy to help because I know how frustrating this is!

This really works for corrupted systems after a flash failure without a working fastboot?

As long as once it is plugged in and the screen comes up in the AP Fastboot it will work. Just hold power plues volume up and down then once that turns off immediatley press the volume up and down and it will boot you right to the boot menu. But just wondering what shows up for you if it is not the fastboot?
I can't get it to work, after I select BP Tools, it flashes the Motorola Logo and goes back to the AP Fastboot screen again. I don't think it works if you formatted \System.

Definitely didn't work. When that m logo comes up, it disappears and the screen goes off. The charging icon does not show.
Sorry for the late reply but it is good to hear this method to work for jaredakelly . For those who are having problems did you have the phone charging in the wall outlet and not on a computer usb? The best steps is to choose the the tools option then just let the phone boot to the m logo then just leave it there on the wall outlet. Make sure you are using the Motorola usb cable that came with your phone and its usb adaptor that might make a difference.
I just tried this tut and it works as far as I can tell I am at the screen for battery charging but there is a big "?" in the center, the phone doesnt know what level its at lol..
I suggest you space out and make your original steps in bigger and bolder text for the specific buttons because I almost missed the power + vol down + vol up and was just pressing the volume buttons
This thread should be stickied!
Yeah sorry if my instructions were not to clear this is my first time posting anything like this on this site, but I am glad to hear it is working for you too. I don't even have this phone lol , it was my friend's and he had it stuck on the fastboot so I messed around with it and in the end this was the result.
yep
i think my battery is too low to attempt this i got it on 3 times and tried to fastboot restore but battery kept dying before completion so i guess im just screwed
no you should be fine because as long as the power cable is still plugged in it should work regardless of the low battery level. I did this on my friend's phone with 0% battery.

I also noticed that my phone though it was charging, even though there wasn't anything charging it.
Wiped Battery Stats - Still Funky
Cleaned usb port/ battery with nail polish remover - Still Funky
Updated ROM (newest ShoStock)
Phone would not get past the 'GALAXY s2' Black Screen.
No big deal right?
But now I can't load CWM from the internal memory AND I can't boot it from an SD card. It won't do anything besides give the black Samsung 'GALAXY s2" screen!!!!
When it is plugged in it won't even give me the Samsung screen, it just has a frozen charging screen on it.

[Q] Atrix bootloop problem

Hi there guys, first of all thank you all so much for the support here.
I have a problem with my atrix, i googled a lot before posting, but i still can't find a solution:
I have a atrix 4G, unlocked, was running successfully neutrino 2,8 version.
After 2 months of being (almost) fully functional, the phone crashed(i didn't do anything particular at that time, i think that i was browsing google maps) suddenly and now i have continuous boot loop, i get only the classic red dual core logo, with the "unlocked" notification over it, and then after 10-15 sec it reboots.
I try to open it with holding volume down, to enter recovery, nothing happens. It reboots again. The computer doesn't see it, in this case.
I reboot it with holding volume up, says "starting RSD protocol suppport", and pc sees it and i get the cling-clong sound of usb.
I would do the recovery using rsd, but i read that it is not for unlocked devices, is this so? What can i do in this case? Thanks a lot!!!

flasing a recovery is done via fastboot so you don't have to enter recovery but fastboot (hold power and volume down till it shows fastboot, then press up) .

Thanks a lot!!!

hello i had this problem yesterday, it happens in neutrino rom to alot of people!
and btw i could not open recovery either
ill explain what i had to do
i had to use moto-fastboot and install a new recovery, basically your recovery is dead and your rom is unbootable
heres the steps
download the moto drivers and install
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1381183&d=1349549067
then download the motofastboot zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1381414&d=1349555102
and create a new folder in C: (computer) called Android and then drag the files from the moto zip into android
Then download a new recovery http://www.mediafire.com/?6ww8wrjrdqq9m97
place the recovery.img into the android folder
now you have all the files needed to reflash your new recovery and fix your phone the whole idea is to reinstall recovery so you can access it and wipe and install the rom fresh again
now you need to do these steps
1) Attach your phone to the PC via USB (use a port closest to the power supply)
2) Reboot phone while holding volume down until you see "fastboot"
3) Press volume up to initiate fastboot
4) On your PC click the Start menu, then in the search box type "cmd"
5) In the command prompt type the following commands (no quotes, hit enter after each command)
6a) "cd c:/android"
6b) "moto-fastboot devices"
your CMD promt should show something like this
C:\Users\Me>cd c:/android
c:\Android>fastboot devices
TA20703SX9 fastboot
c:\Android>
now if that has all worked type the following phrases
moto-fastboot erase recovery
moto-fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-6.0.1.4-maguro.img
moto-fastboot reboot
now the phone should reboot, unplug the usb and pull battery out.
put battery back in and then try to boot into recovery like you normally would (power button + Vol Down)
and your new recovery should load!
from here you can wipe your whole system which i would reccomended as your current one is corrupt and install a new rom or reflash your current on onto a clean wipe. if you dont understand how to clean wipe do all of these steps, factory reset, clear cache, clean dalvik cache then go to mounts > storage and format data + format cache + format system
now install new rom and let it boot up, should bootloop a couple of times then start! if not unplug battery from phone and ask for further assitance

Thank you for your help, the problem is exactly here, i put on the usb, i power up the phone by pressing the volume down, and the phone does nothing, doesn't show the fastboot, and after 10-15 secs starts rebooting again. This is my problem!
The only response from my phone is when powering up, and pressing the volume up, it says "starting rsd protocol support"
Is there any case that my volume down is dead?

unplug usb
remove battery, then put battery back in make sure phone off (no green light)
then hold power button and vol down at the same time for a few seconds
Fastboot should appear in white writing then press up volume and it should say starting rsd protocal or something similiar
then plug in usb and follow the steps i have written above
i do exactly what you said, but doesn't show fastboot. from switched off, if i press volume up with power button, i see the message "starting rsd protocol support" .but no fastboot option!
Is there any chance that you can access adb after bootscreen? than you can use "adb reboot recovery" to get there...

When i start up phone, the only combination possible to stop restarting is by pressing power+vol up to show that with RSD. There is no other option then selectable. Power + volume down does not work, doesn't show anything, has anyone of you experienced this thing?
If the only working option you have is RSD, then I'm afraid you're stuck with having to flash a stock SBF. I hope you know/remember exactly what stock version you had installed before any modding or flashing, because the SBF has to match exactly. Choose wisely and read up as much as you can before flashing.
I have over a year now with custom roms, and i can't remember which version i had. Why do i have to find exactly the version that i had? The latest stock version won't work with rsd? It will make it hard brick? If i manage at least to recover the fastboot menus etc it would be great!
I will later also try to open it, to see if the side button "volume down" is not working,.
I have another question, in your moto atrix, if you press on startup power+vol up, are you also seeing the "starting RSD" etc option??

Yes, flashing a wrong SBF will most likely hardbrick your device.

Can't try right now, but as far as I know, yes, that is a standard way to enter RSD mode.
thank you, so, i know that at least my phone responds to some instructions.
Is there anyone else to suggest me to do anything else?
IN rsd mode, (other than flashing a stock random rom with chance of hardbricking,)the phone can be read by usb, can i do anything there?

Sadly no. The RSD mode can only ever be used to flash SBFs. That's it. Nothing less, nothing more.
I will now try to open it to see if vol down is not working well. If it does work, i will select a stock rom 1 year old and i will flash it using rsd, and whatever happens....:good:
I disassembled the phone, the button seems to operate fine(?).
I flashed with RSDlite the 2.3.6 version, the RSD stuck to waiting for phone to restart.
The phone restarted, the "unlocked" logo disappeared.
Starts normally, passes the red motorola logo, shows the graphic of AT&T, and after ~10sec starts restarting again. Bootloop again!
At boot, pressing power+vol up, i can still get the RSD support. Pressing power+vol down does nothing, I don't see any error messages, like the ones in hard brick.
What can i do now, any ideas please!!!
try this

Yesterday I had a hard time getting my phone into fastboot mode, after loading a bad SV kernel,it only wanted to start the RSD protocol mode. I eventually got into fastboot by plugging into the wall charger, then removing and installing the battery while holding the vol button. When fastboot appears, unplug the charger to allow sd access.
Thanks for the suggestion, i tried even this,it didn't work. The funny thing is that it shows the battery charging level full screen if i connect the charger, as it starts.
I noticed also that when i press vol down now, it takes longer to start and continue to the moving red logo, it stays for a while stable red, feels like it is thinking whether to start or not lol (if i don't press vol down, on the power up the red moto logo immediately starts the classic "waving" effects)
Anyone having any kind of suggestion?I guess you don't, right?
