Galaxy s2 goes low on space - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
My gf has a galaxy s2 and it shows low on space for the device memory. Weird thing is it shows the apps are taking 200mb space, but there is only few mb left out of 1.9GB. I deleted some apps and moved them to sd card. It opened 100mb of space. But again in quite short time it went down to less than 2mb free space. (Without doing anything)
Its usb storage and sd card has quite a lot space.
I'm suspecting some malicious application, but none seems like that. I'll probably do a factory reset. Before that is there anything I can try?
I tried downloading lookout security, but although it's a 4mb app and I had 10mb free at the time, it said insufficient space and did not install.

Have a read of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1589970 and see if it applies to you.

I must have missed this one. Thanks a lot.
Though its not mine and don't want to root it. I'll try to find a workaround.

Guys thanks i read this forum..
I had the same issue my S2 is rooted so i was able to sort out and delete the dump files
I noticed that the dump file date is everyday with 438kb each how so I was getting this?
I had to delete 2000+ dump files is this some sort of malware?
I was suspecting an app doing this, I will post the actual screenshots of the file maybe you could do something about this..

Could you please tell the location of the dump files? Or how did you go about deleting them?

I use FX Explorer> System Root > Data > Log
Delete the log folder to save you time from deleting the dump file one by one
then just create another folder and name it as log.
hope this helps.

[Q] Insufficient space because of "Transfers", but there are no transfers?

I've got insufficient space due to those 720 mbs, but they are nowhere to be found , days after i flash a rom this always happens and when i press on transfers to try to delete them, there are no files!
It´s really getting annoying, where in root can i find and delete these files? Last time before i re-flashed Omega with a deep wipe, i had 2 gigabytes in transfers which were the reason for me to re-flash Omega.
http: //imageshack. us/g/267/20121018222116.png/
As you can see in the screenshots, the 720 mbs in files are nowhere to be found
Can someone explain this noob whats is happening?
thanks in advance!

Hi,
Weird, I don't really know why you have this folder... With a file explorer go to /sdcard and see if you see a folder named "Transfêrencias"...
In any case your internal storage is full, like your sdcard, maybe it's time to clean a little at least your internal storage
7.51 GB of apps...

[Q] System data is 8GB

Hey,
I keep getting low storage errors. Running Cyanogenmod.
When I look at the local disk usage it only has 11303MB available with 7945 MB being taken up with System Data.
The phone is I9305. Should have 16GB local storage.
Is this normal?
Could something have duplicated that I need to delete?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Best to search before posted a new thread. Read rootsu's helpful post on 4.2 storage, which is probably your issue:

Why is that one assumes that the poster has not spent anytime searching?
Anyway, thanks for the information, I am running it now.
Hopefully it works but not sure if it is going to remove the issue that the System Data is taking up a lot of space and keep getting messages about running out of disk space. Resulting in having to constantly manually manage the files on the phone. Which I didn't have to do before I rooted the phone? Still makes me think maybe there are duplicate files or something on the phone?

Nope, didn't work. I tried to copy the files as mentioned but it gives me an error:
The paste operation failed. It may be that there was not enough free space on the target file system.
And now I lost any free space that I had.
Searching would have found you several identical posts.
You need to carefully read the instructions and understand them before you started, copy and paste will indeed result in losing all free storage space.

Need to use "Cut" really. Copy leaves existing data which duplicates.

I can't quite understand what your asking, but it sounds like you are running out of space, is that right?
If you are having issues with strange files that you don't know what they are taking up lots of space, I would recommend using TitaniumBackup to backup all your applications with data, then do a data factory reset, then VERY SELECTIVELY restore applications with data, ONLY restore the application data that you are 100% sure about, like games you're playing, contacts storage, SMS storage, things like that. Don't be afraid to restore apps 1 at a time checking each time that you aren't getting a rediculous amount of space being taken up.
Sometimes when things get messy a factory reset is the best thing you can do.
Hope this helps.

Only thing I could find anywhere about it was a random thread from the Baidu forum, which Chinese translated to English via Google makes for an interesting read: http://tieba.baidu.com/p/2336554174 and someone else on XDA that asked the same question but no one answered. Seems like from the Baidu thread that they deleted the files and the phone didn't break. The files inside the /data/core folder were gone after factory reset, and no one was sure what app or part of the system created the files or what they were for.
thank you very much for your reply...i moved those files in other location to see if anything is wrong.... after using some minutes i rebooted my device... the core files didn't respawn... i just freed 387 mb form phone storage..... once again... thank you sir!!!:good:

How to empty trash

Sorry if repost, I often find the storage of my phone totally full and tonight I found out it does not delete files but it just puts them into the trash bin. How to empty it quickly?
Use the "Clean junk" function in the Phone Manager app, maybe?

No the clean junk removes only the cache, I found out that for some reasons my device created a folder .trash-1000 like a Linux system where it stored all things I deleted and the only way to access that folder is a file Explorer like root browser.
I attached another one that was created for the gallery
What is estimate free space after clean rom install.I've got 18 gb available with 32 gb version, maybe 3 gb are used for tiranium backup and old pictures?

I'm stock and right now I've got like 15 GB of free storage, but with clean system(and Chinese and leeco app installed) it should be around 19/20 I think.
Anyway I found the problem, stock gallery has a recycle bin, accessible from gallery>my>recycle bin where deleted files are kept for 30 days. Check that as well if you have leeco gallery, you might find big surprises

hi i had same problem as you almost 15 gb free space lost. So for removing trash install and use app SD Maid
Run app inside menu of application find storage analyzer then open your primary partition you can see location named storage trash go indide and delete everything.. you need to check that location once per week.. good luck

Did you use ES file manager to delete?
It moves deleted ones into trashbin or something similar like that. You should look for that folder and empty it, or just disable that function.

I have had this issue on my g4. Somtimes will take a few min to reflect changes. Also some folders will not disappear until rebooted.
i always chalked it to a bug in the system . Have you tried any other apps that read disk space?
