[Q] ICS on rooted GT-I9100G with CWM - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
How can I upgrade (a zip file, right?) my android 2.3.6 device to 4.0.3 (or later)?
I've found some obscure chinese site, but I couldn't understand anything.
My system's information:
Code:
Model Number: GT-I9100G
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version: I9100GXXKL4
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-g7b57e17-dirty-Lucifr_1.60uv-300Mhz
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XXLB1
I would really REALLY like to do it via a .zip file from within CWM without having to flash my phone with a PC (as I only have linux).
I am based in Central Europe, if that matters.

That should help you:

Oh well, that's where I intended to post initially, but when I ticked the checkbox "this is a question" an alert appeared telling me that I have to post here, otherwise I would break the rules...
Thanks, I'll repost.

You still haven't fixed the issue:

It seems that there are no official ICS for the GT-I9100G yet.

Any ICS Roms for GT-I9100G?
Read here first to get cwm.zip and such to launch ClockWorkMod from the Recovery, and then load from there a rom that is compatible with your device (official or not):
[Guide] Types of Android backups
[Official][Download] Galaxy S2 GT-I9100G - Ice Cream Sandwich
Of course you can install a version of other country or international version.

I hope this helps -->
Make a folder named "firmware" in ur external sd.
Copy the ICS firmware in that folder.
Open CWM and go to flash stock firmware.

[Q] Trying to locate correct stock firmware

I recently bought a Galaxy S II here in Australia and it came with a stock Samsung firmware. Typing *#1234# gave this information:
PDA :- I9100XWKF3
Phone :- I9100XXKE7
CSC :- I9100XSAKE3
I have been flashing the phone over the weekend with custom ROMs but I didn't like any of them (some of them would not even connect to samsung's Kies software). I have been trying to find which firmware would restore my phone to its just-bought condition, but I can't seem to locate it in the SamFirmware.com firmware list.
Help please? Thanks.
Stock firmware or provider firmware in Dev section.

Actually, I've already been there. My problem is that, confronted with the unexplained alphabet soup that is the firmware names, I still can't seem to find one which matches the above details. Unless there's a convention I don't know.
information can be found on the following page. the last 5 letter+number in your PDA and Phone info are what you need to match the stock roms to your phone (in this case, XWKF3 and XXKE7). instruction is at the top of that page as well. hope it helps, buddy. best of luck!

A big thank you to dchn2 and intratech for their pointers (and intratech, again, for his wonderful stock firmware thread). I have no idea why it didn't come up when I did my searches but it has been a great read.

[Q] I Can't Update My Amaze

Hi all,
I got a problem about update my Amaze 4G which I brought at 5/11/11.
I had already root my phone and flash the clockworkmod recovery,
but before a few day, my phone remind my to download a system update.
When I completed download and begin to install,
my phone reboot and turn into the page follow

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I saw a port http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297467
Which tell the update information
Android version : 2.3.4
HTC Sense version : 3.0
Software version : 1.36.531.5
Kernel version : 2.6.35.13-g19a3d1a
htc-ker[email protected] #1
Build number : 1.36.531.5 CL157207 release-keys
and I check my phone information is the same as the update
So I want to ask
1) Can I update the system update by HTC after I flash the clockworkmod recovery
2) If no, how can I update my system at the future or how can I flash back the original recovery
3) Is that update in the port is the latest one
4) If I already had the latest update, why my phone will remind me to download the update
Thank a lot!
Search for the stock recovery and flash it by hboot. Then update your phone and say goodbye to root. To obtain root again you will have to install busybox and superuser.
Honestly it'll be so much easier to flash a custom rom.

Thanks, it really work.

How to know my original Kernel Version?

Hi,
I just rooted my SGS2 using the following kernel: CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-PROPER-v5.4-CWM5, the problem is forgot to write down my original data, so is there a way to know it?
and does rooting the phone also changes the Build Number and Baseband Version?
Here is my current data:

Well I'm afraid the kernel I used won't be compatible with the phone, isn't that right?
I'm sorry I'm new to this

If you want to unroot all you have to do is go to www.sammobile.com and download the stock firmware and flash through Odin. You will get your stock Kernel back. So don't worry, try some aftermarket kernels

if it isn't compatible, the phone won't turn on, or pass the Samsunggalaxy GT-I9100 screen. so don't be afraid. just in case, and to be safe, if your phone is working OK right now, you should make a nandroid backup in CWMR (volumeup+home button+power button). and then you can mess with anything you want (except stock kernels made from 9 of july of 2012 to now) and there will be almost no problems
you can try any kernel...not every kernel works fine in terms of battery life and hardware manage. even though is the one that came with your custom rom. the same is for modem(baseband)

Well you can get a stock firmware from www.sammobile.com and flash through Odin, but I have heard that 4.0.4 is buggy. I would probably stick with what you have now

try to download and install the original 4.0.3 rom + kernel of the sammobile site

Return to stock ROM Problems

I've been running a 4.1.1 jelly bean rooted with CWM Touch on my S 3 for a while, and for some battery problems I've had to return the mobile for stock unrooted ROM to visit the Sam Customer service, so I flashed the XXABLFB using Odin3 then done a factory reset with the code:
*2767*3855#
It all went well .. and the mobile now is android ICS 4.0.1 .. but when I try to do the OTA update to turn to jelly bean it says no update available, and kies gives a "not supported firmware version:

I tried also to reroot the phone and reflash the CWM to do a full format but the odin3 keeps giving me "FAIL" messages.
any suggestions ?!
You are in Egypt? I suspect that the firmware that you have flashed is not intended for the region? top of my head, XX is European/British based ROMs, or that JB update is yet to be released in Egypt through your mobile carrier?
What I would recommend for you to do now, send the phone to SSC to resolve your initial issue since the phone is already unrooted. In particular situations should SSC not repair your phone and provide you with a replacement unit, you would be wasting your time in trying to get JB update etc...
You have Korean firmware on a non Korean product .
CSC= KOR .
Join XDA Developers and flash stock rom .
