Ok. Saw a thread about downloading the premium suite (s-note) for the note last week and now today I can find it anywhere. It included the apk file download link.
ANyone have a clue?
It has not come out, the only thing that has been released was the SNote app from the premium suite.
I believe the snote app is exactly what I am looking for. You have a link?
Can't find it, uploading the apk to my dropbox right now.

Thanks much. There was a discussion about whether it worked with various ICS Roms last week, and for whatever reason, I can't find any of those threads.
i was wondering where that thread went too.
i downlaoded the apk, and it kept saying there was a problem parsing the package. came back to the thread and it was gone. i just assumed they had to delete it cuz of some issue with samsung
Yep I cant find the thread either.. I'm the person who upped it to 4-shared. The n7000 thread I got it from is still active though...

I wouldn't think that Samsung would have any say over what's posted on a forum. Maybe I'm wrong.
Oh well. It kind of pisses me off that we buy this awesome phone in Feb, and here 3 months later we are using an outdated operating system. Sure I have ICS installed via flashing a rom, but I think Samsung mislead us when they acted like the ICS was coming out in the first qtr, and now we see competing phones being sold with newer operating systems than what we have.
Guess I'm learning what really goes on in the world of marketing.

Samsung has always been really slow at providing updates. Usually taking a year+
3 months isn't bad. Considering this is their "flagship", oh nvm that's right SIII > note as far as they are concerned..

I don't believe the problem is with Samsung. I think the issue is with AT&T. They are adding their "enhancements" to the ROM before its release.
Man! Why do they have to take so long? Freaking years! If it wasn't beacuse iphone small screen and their annal closed OS, I would have jump back into iphone in a heart beat.
to a giant corp like ATT, updating a phone OS probably isn't high on their priority list...

Exactly the problem with large companies. Screw you, we already got your money and you're stuck with us now, so why would we care about you.
Its not about the customer anymore - its about the shareholder and the suits at the top getting as much money for as little effort as possible. If they wouldn't get dumped by everyone switching to faster carriers, they'd never spend any money upgrading anything (like towers or 3G-->LTE) since that absolutely destroys profit margins.
I think we as consumers don't give ourselves enough credit for how much power we hold over these corporations. There's 5 million Note users - obviously not all AT&T... It's time we stop giving these companies a pass just because we the customers are too small for them to care about.
good points...

Samsung is the best at customer support and liberty of your device.
I believe the OS upgrades are slowed because of carrier signatures on bloatware. As for customer support and honoring warranty repairs regardless of system modification, heck, Samsung evens pays for shipping via UPS to get your device to and from. I've bricked so many Samsung phones during the FROYO -> Gingerbread leaks, reverting back to FROYO and not changing the bootloader back. SAMSUNG NEVER GAVE ME A PROBLEM. Samsung rules the land!

I can't lie this is true. I gave back a phone on warranty and it was rooted when I returned it on accident and they still said nothing. Flash counter on it was 4-6 too. I like Samsung but the business world sucks. I have a bachelors in business economics and its worse than you guys know. In the long run its what's gonna kill humanity but we won't go there yet lol.
I need the S Note app too!
Would somebody send me a link, here or in pm? Thanks!

Am I the only one that is sick of HTC lagging on releasing source code. I'm so tired of them dragging their sorry asses around with slow code releases for our phones. The whole thing is so stupid.
First we have the stupid 1.5 Hboot problem. What a pain in the ass. All so a few thousand people can't properly tinker with the device, which they paid good money for. That is so weak. And from a company that is supposed to be dev friendly. Right. All they are is annoying the most loyal customers they have.
Next we have the lack of source code for the newest kernel, 2.17.651.5. Without this code, the entire developer section is divided. We want the features from the established roms, but we can't have them along with the new OTA updates without your code. Just release it already. We are not going to sell it or start our own phone companies for F sake. We can't even use our cameras properly since you gave us botched camera code compared to other similar phones. Only god knows why you would do that.
PLEASE, if an HTC rep reads this, please help the community out. Give us the complete tools to unlock our phones, and the code to customize our phones as we see fit. We all promise to not break them and return them for one of the millions you already have sitting around the world. We already bought your stupid phone(s). Now give us the tools to make them better.
Thank you.
ps
When you release the update for ICS, please give us the option to run with or without Sense. Some of us love it, some of us hate it. But let it be our choice. Perhaps you could make Sense a bundle of widgets on top of ICS. I don't care how you do it, just do it right for a change.

Great post. I agree 100%.
That post sums up the reasons why I won't be buying anymore HTC phones. And when all the people who come to me for help with their phones ask for advice (which is several times per week), I will make sure I tell them all to get a Samsung or Motorola. I won't be recommending anymore HTC devices.

I don't believe that other manufactures are that much better. I guess try one and see. With that said I feel as though source should be released THE SAME TIME AS the update or with in a week. None of this 30 day/when we get to it crap.

Why don't I sell it? Because there isn't another 3D phone on Sprint at the moment and I got stuck in a 2 year contract when I bought this phone. Common sense.

I agree with him - this phone is "meh" AT BEST as long as HTC does business this way. I'm constantly checking my contract end date because I'm going to bail unless HTC changes things. Unfortunately, it's probably going to be a sammy. Oh I almost forgot to ask - please bugger off.

Yeah Motorola aren't saints either, matter fact, all of these phone manufacturers are no good, its just a matter of picking your poison when choosing a manufacturer & phone. Had 3 Samsung phones (Moment, Epic, & Nexus S 4G), but I chose to stick with HTC because of the huge dev community behind it, & I'm at peace with that choice.

Scheduled. But no specific release date. People have been saying March / April.
The Note should definitely be getting ICS.
Okay cool thanks guys!
I believe Samsung said in Q1, and a rumor just surfaced that it would be March 1.
Murphy is a cousin of mine so i say AT&T will update to ICS 2-4 months after Int'l ppl get it from Samsung.
i <3 you Murph!!
That's the worst part of this. My Cappy has been amazing with ICS. I'm almost tempted to keep it until the Note get ICS also.
Too bad the hardware is different for the ATT note (from International version), we don't have LTE in Seattle, but I dislike the physical button on the IV.
Oh well, here's hoping ATT doesn't run the same route as the Captivate (Froyo forever sucked, then Gingerbread last week or so! It was great to have ports of gingerbread well before ATT)
OP, if ics came to the g-note a week after tomorrow it wouldn't be soon enough.
The captivate is freaking unbelievable running it. I to am enjoying it ...almost... enough to put off buying a new one. The cappy is a completely new phone...rom it on the g-note and it will -scream .... on ice cream. (sorry I couldn't help that last part)

You're better off searching online for stuff about release dates than keeping on checking the ota update on your phone. Google tells all. We will learn about a release date online well before it being available through your ota.

ICS on AT&T Note is unlikely in first half of 2012. End of 2012, maybe. 2013? More likely.
It probably will not be ota.... There will probably be bootloaders if the notes ever get ics.
With my history on updates for at&t devices....if it EVER comes, count yourself
lucky. AT&T, except for the iPhones, delays, delays, delays updates.
I've had two non branded phones, and always get updates MONTHS before at&t updates.

Source? If that's just a guess, please say so.
After dealing with samsungs BS with the Vibrant, I don't believe a single word, promise, hint, or hope that they announce until I see ICS on my device. I love Samsungs hardware, but I have lost faith in the company itself long ago when dealing with my vibrant and our 10% out of the box fail rate with Sync Master monitors.
On a plus side, my vibrant runs ICS beautifully so I'm sure it will be even better on the Note once a few good ROMS are released and the bugs are worked out.

It's called common sense if you ever dealed with Samsung devices on AT&T in the past. Anything else is just naive thinking, or fantacy.
For the record, AT&T (not Samsung) is the one determines when an update will be available. And AT&T almost never give out release dates. In rare cases it did so (Captivate and Infuse GB updates are said to be available in fall 2011), they screwed it (both release in 2012).
So, any posting about release schudle is pure guess.

+1. If it comes in OTA, wait a few days. OTA update with bootloader change almost always bricks a few phones everytime Samsung tries it. Most recent is the GS2 Skyrocket 2.3.6 OTA last month.
We have to go through the phases of an over due update. We havn't even seen the numerous "i know someone who can say with certainty that..." or "my brothers cousins sisters poodles hairdresser brother works on the dev teams and said..." or my personal favorite "i know someone inside the company who says". Then there is the phase of dispair where people say they will never buy sammy again and will be selling this POS and so on. Check out the captivate and vibrant forums and you'll see lots. In the vibrants case, it was Samsungs fault for dragging their feet, not T-Mo as they hadnt received the software to bloatware onto when waiting for Froyo! Sit and wait and watch current ROM scene if you really want ICS.

That's the common mis-conception. Carrier bloatware is baked into the ROM by Samsung per carrier request.
Here is how a firmware update process goes:
1. The carrier in question must feel the need for an firmware update. It's a big deal because it has to allocate resources for extensive testing, training of CSR and actual releasing.
2. The carrier makes a request for new firmware to Samsung.
3. Samsung builds the new firmware based on carrier's request and send to carrier for testing.
4. The carrier test extensively of the new build. If there are significant problems found, it goes back to step 3.
5. After extensive testing, carrier OKs the new firmware but need to pick a release date. Most importantly it has make sure it won't jeopardize the sales of new phones.
6. Once received OK from carrier, Samsung can put out the new firmware.
I'm not sure we are even past step 1 yet.
Ordered a SGII on Friday for $9.99 with the Fathers Day promotion ATT had running.
It arrived a couple of hours ago and has been charging. I haven't even turned it on yet. This is to replace a Captivate I've had for 22 months that I dropped on Thursday night and broke the LCD. I'd been dealing with a broken glass since the phone was 4 months old so it was definitely time for an upgrade.
I had Continuum Themed on the Captivate for over a year. Worked really well. Obviously rooted, unlocked and unlocked the market. Opened up tethering and had deleted all the bloatware. Also had modified battery info icons for the status bar. I'm looking to do something very similar with the SGII but I read that the author of the Continuum has stopped creating new roms.
I have to read up and get back into modding, as I mentioned, its been over a year since I last flashed a rom. Are there any former Captivate owners here?
Something occured to me, when setting up the new phone you have to agree to the new terms and conditions to register the phone on the network. If I flashed it and used my old sim card, would I need to register it on the network? I didnt have to do that to an unlocked Nokia that came over from the UK that I had for a few years. I put in my sim card and was able to make calls as soon as it had booted.

Then you should reread the OP.
I clearly stated I hadn't even turned the phone on yet. I am saying hello to fellow SGII users and introducing myself. I asked if there where any other prior Captivate users, thus a common ground, inciting conversation about users experiences with the 2 phones, and I mentioned that the rom I was using isn't supported, thus also inciting conversation about which roms SGII users prefer/are using/have had experience with.

Yea....your gonna do good around here with that attitude.
So you want opinions and a friend to talk with. Go to facebook. this is an android development forum. Not some girly, lets reminense of past forum.
Dont ask for opinions on what ROM is best, or what anything is best, figure it out for yourself. Your inticing the idiots that like sharing their phone dependent, and opinionated likes and dislikes.
Good day douche. Yea I'll prolly get infracted, but your worth it.
I'm the one with the attitude? Hilarious.
If we dont talk about stuff, how are we expected to grow and learn as a community? You should also note that at no point did I ever say which rom was "best." I asked for users experiences. Totally different.
And reminiscing about the past? Seriously?
If you have nothing constructive to add here, then sod off. Otherwise pipe down and grow up.

I asked if there where any other prior Captivate users, thus a common ground, inciting conversation about users experiences with the 2 phones, and I mentioned that the rom I was using isn't supported, thus also inciting conversation about which roms SGII users prefer/are using/have had experience with.

You just got a free "thanks" because I accidentally clicked on it.
you are going to get flamed for this. There is no reason to attack anyone. If you had searched, you would see tons of threads that have been locked because they asked for "what rom should I use...". Dont ask ... Just flash and find out yourself.
you will not get any help with a reply like that.

I'm a former captivate guy too... I guess we got that in common.
Welcome to the SGSII, which is basically a Captivate on steroids.
I'm still waiting for someone to quote me where I said "which was the best rom to use?"
There was nothing to get wound up in that original post, thus I said what I said.

Dont ask for opinions on what ROM is best, or what anything is best, figure it out for yourself. Your inticing the idiots that like sharing their phone dependent, and opinionated likes and dislikes.

alright everybody, I just went to the store and played with the Galaxy Note 2. I have to say I am absolutely sold on this device now for sure 100 percent! Flash Player work on it, and everything else is just awesome! words can't even describe how fluid this device really is, anybody who was doubting might as well put that to rest! go to T Mobile or sprint and go play with yourself!
I did that too. But, coming from the GNote, it may or may not be worth the 300 right now. I guess for me, I can wait till it comes down in cost.

Well, I'm getting one but only because I can get it for free. Otherwise, I'd maybe hold on since the GNote I will be getting most of the Note IIs software through updates and also, I may want to wait for the price to drop.
At any rate, I've held a Tmobile Note II but that was about it. The POS Tmobile stores over here do that dumb crap where the vast majority of phones are just on static display, so you can't play with a working model. I don't understand how that's legal. You want me to commit hundreds of dollars towards a device I can't play with so I can wisely make an informed decision??
I already purchased mine....Waiting on the shipment....Hope ya get it...Ill be seeing ya in the note 2 forums
I'm going to go ahead and say that I won't be "playing with myself" at the tmobile store, though the Note 2 will definitely tempt me....

It's really asinine. And it's not just Tmobile... MOST stores in my area that do cellular phones sales, don't have working models, including Best Buy, Target, The Sprint Store, TMobile Store, and Radio Shack. They have static models tethered to a line that you can hold... that's it. What the hell kind of decision am I supposed to make based on that? And the three working phones that Tmo had, were older phones like the S III and some other crap that no one wanted. I was very upset.

Nobody knows for sure.
Even though the hover feature does exist in the Note 1, I believe Samsung has said hover mode is an exclusive feature of the Note 2 because of hardware...so I got a feeling that Samsung won't put some of the Note 2 features in a future update, if there is one anyways.
As for the mini apps and multiview, I also don't see why not. Current apps like Overskreen, aircalc and the pop up video players work fine. I dont see any slowdown on my Note 1(not stock)

every store I have ever been to, that has these static "show" models, will always let you actually try a working one, if you ask someone who works there..I totally understand why they dont have working models on display; people would just stand there endlessly playing with them if they had all working models out there, and, the people waiting behind you to look at the phone might have a long wait just to touch it while you are "checking it out" for 30 minutes....Like I said, just ask an employee to let you try a working one, and they will get one out of the box for you to try...

Wow that sucks for you guys! here in Florida or in So.Fl at least, all the floor models are working. No dummies models here, and you can load up apps right in the store. I loaded the flash player I posted to make sure it worked cause someone in UK said I didn't in their stock browser and it worked on US note 2. Lucky us lol.

Hey everyone, bootloader is finally almost done i will be posting thread shortly and will also be posting my perma root solution. I have a post on aicp/lollipop community on google
---------- Post added at 06:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:58 PM ----------
I am in the final stages of coming out with a apk called PERMA root. It will root while also giving you the option to unlock bootloader. I am testing on two more devices before release. I want to leave nobody unhappy. Therefore any device you may have will work. As new phones are introduced it will only take a couple days to activate from my end. Please be patient because as you already know this is some hard work and long hour testing.
Tested devices: (list includes all carriers) (multiple devices in each listed brand tested to include s4 and s5) Lg, Samsumg, htc, and currently testing last of others. Thanks for the patience.
Be welcome to share accross XDA

Don't get excited people. That thread has become an all out flame war and I see warnings and/or bans coming instead of root.. Oh well... ?
is he saying that the app will be able to unlock the bootloader on the verizon retail version of the note 3? Can i have the link to that thread? Thanks.

He was claiming root and bootloader unlock. But instead of getting everyone riled up he probably should have made it a covert job and then "Bam" here you go. Kinda like when the Rezound got s-off. But the thread got way out of control and it's locked now until he can prove he has something substantial. If you'd like to check it out see the first post in this thread and go to original post quote.
While I love the xda community and have been along time member and highly appreciative of the devs.
I'm just about ready to toss this phone in the garbage.
I miss the days of flashing my phone every week to the latest and greatest when I had my original galaxy note for 2 years.

Wow really your going to get frustrated and throw out a phone that costs 400-700$ because you can't flash roms endlessly yeah i get tw sucks and I want to have better options for roms but even if I lost root I would not throw out my note 3.

I feel the same way about my galaxy bloat 3. First and formost i need a phone that works as a phone. This phone has the worst service and software out of any phone i've owned. As far as the sortware goes i thought i would be able to fix it with cm11 but thanks to verizon and me not doing my home work a head of time i'm stuck with the ****tiest phone i've ever owned. I can't wait for july to replace it with a motorola product.
I must be getting old. I don't see a problem with the stock note 3 and the bloat. Yeah the signal could be better but that is on Samsung more than Verizon. And yes Verizon could shorten the approval process for updates and Samsung could drop tw and put out updates in line with the nexus line as all manufactures should the ui should be a app on the app store and be little more than a launcher for people to choose to use if they want.
Not going to happen. If your on big red you likely don't have a choice or it is the best service in your area or your grandfathered into unlimited. The Samsung phones were the only ones with 2 features I am unable to give up battery that is removable and sd card.

If this phone doesn't end up with Lollipop that's rootable or an unlocked bootloader before February, I'm throwing mine at my Verizon Rep's face and picking up a Note 4. We bought Note 3's for only two reasons. The first reason was that the other Note's were easy to root and flash to CM and the second reason was because of the S-Pen. At this point I would take a loss on the S-Pen functionality just to be rid of all of the Samsung Bloat on my phones.
Wow. sounds like you all should be buying an international variant. trashing you phone or going to a N4 with a locked bootloader is not going to solve your problem. I am pleased with my Rooted N3 and have no issues and will stay with Samsung for a while. Root is nice but it's not going to cause me to put my phone in the trash, there are other things in life that are far more important
Yeah way to stick it to Samsung by throwing out last quarters model and buying the brand new one.
I see both sides, though we didn't have ten or fifteen roms to flash, this phone was not a waste at all. It's a solid phone for my use. But flashing roms has become a hobby and I don't like not doing that either. So even though most of the developers are going to the Nexus. I just don't like having no SD or removable battery either. And how are they handling any replacements for a phone currently not carried by Big Red? May not be the place for me to ask that but I'm curious.
You might want to check out the Note 4 forum for scripts that can disable a ton of the bloatware without root. I am still rocking rooted MJE so I can't test it with kitkat. It supposedly will run on most android phones. Just wanted to mention a potential solution until root achieved.

So locked note 3 to a locked down note 4 when you are stuck with the options of motorola or sony for unlockable phones that are on verizon.
IF you really have to have CM 12 you are going to have to either make sure the phone you get at that time has an unlockable bl or is a nexus.
And as for the note 4 it is only a slight upgrade over the note 3 and both will someday get lollipop note 4 sooner than the note 3...
