ok im new and im sorry about that
*i traded my iphone for a note that had ics on it i wanted to learn android with no roots hacks tweeks and so on so i tried to flash back it bricked and i un bricked it so now in (about phone) it says:
Android version4.0.3 (i thought that was isc)
Baseband i717uclc5
Kernel [email protected]#1
Build numberIML74k.144the phone is running gingerbread i have seen both versions and it is not icsanything will help thanks in advance
that is ics you need to download a tar and flash that.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599127
follow the directions in this thread
thanks for the response but thats what i did but it is clearly gingerbread but says ice cream sandwich
When you say you "bricked it and un bricked it" what exactly did that entail?
My guess is whatever that was, the flash didn't take properly... A"bad flash" if you will.
I would recommend redownloading then reflashing the gingerbread package with Odin.
Just because it looks like gingerbread doesn't mean that it is. Touchwiz looks almost identical on both versions.

Hello all!
My friend just got ICS on his SGSII and he does not like it at all (I have no clue, why).
He wants to downgrade to Gingerbread or Honeycomb instead. Is that even possible without rooting the phone?
And if I root it, how should I proceed? What is the easiest way? I rooted my SGSII a year back, and I have no recollection on how I did it back then. My phone was Gingerbread / Honeycomb back then, and it took me a while to do.
Any ideas is welcome. Thank you!
Downgrade to GB using ODIN. Read this thread, it contains all required information.
Go to intratech thread and flash xwla4 firmware with odin.

The phone crashes, when trying to flash any of those old firmwares 2.3.5 and 2.3.6 ! :-(
Nevermind - I just flashed it with the Gingerbread files from this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458
Works perfectly now.
i got a GP 5.0 yp-g70cb/mea over the weekend and was surprised it got froyo 2.2.2 ive been reading and decided to try other roms based on GB but i got a couple of questions
how to do a full back up - i saw a guide for the 4.0 but not applicable for the 5.0
upgrading from froyo to ginger bread is it possible to revert back to froyo if anything goes wrong?
is there a cwm that works with the stock 2.2.2? i did search and came up with nothing
thanks,
aben

Please read here... This thread should answer most of your questions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1720457
If you are wanting to upgrade to Froyo but are not sure about playing with custom roms, due to fear of bricking, etc... just do a factory upgrade to GB via Kies... no risk in doing so... and if anything was to go wrong, it's Samsung factory upgrade so you should be covered via warranty.
If you are brave enough to venture into custom roms, there are few options available for you. GB roms are pretty safe... no need for pre work... just download the custom GB roms and flash using Odin3... most of these roms will work for both US & INT versions of the players, provided that you flash the right kernel. Anyway... do some reading. Good luck...
Also, if you flash a kernel first, you can make a nandroid backup which can take you back to froyo.
Sent from my YP-G70 using XDA
Not really afraid of trying out custom roms i just feel the need to do a full backup before diving in in case something screw up but cant find any guide for doing so
i tried kies but it seems like mea models are not having GB updates from sammy
Flashing the kernel seems like a good idea but is it rom dependent let say rj custom kernel for intl version will it work on froyo assuming it is from GB (not sure)
Again i want to do a full backup before trying things up
Sent from my YP-G70 using XDA
Kernel version is independent of android version. I believe both yp-g70 kernels are based on the source thar Samsung released with froyo anyways.
Sent from my YP-G70 using XDA
If you want to install a different kernal, I recommend u to use Entropy512's kernal and when you flash, use an older version of super one click because you need to root it.

There is no stock UCKK6 (2.3.6) but you can download and flash a Stock plus root version of UCKK6. See Entropy512's thread which is a sticky in the development forum.
...Or you can flash fully stock UCKH7 (2.3.4). See the link in my signature for the return to the store guide.

I will add this if you flashed UCLE5 via kies or any other method to get your ICS besides AJ's thread you have an unsafe kernel and possible eMMC SUPERBRICK BUG make sure you DON'T wipe data/factory reset before you flash this package do it after you flashed a safe GB kernel... If it were me knowing KK6 2.3.6 has battery drain issues I would flash KH7 2.3.4..... Just use creeys thread to get the files here is the link... GL

i flashed I777UCKH7-REV02-home-low-CL503881.tar
that i had got from sammobile i didn't see the other post till now and i also upgraded to ics from kies i can get into download mode but when i try recovery i held power and volume rockers and it's suppose to flicker once it does not do this it just stays there
You can upgrade to the stock 2.3.6 by downloading the stock 2.3.4 firmware from the download repository here in our forums, then after you are booted into the operating system, go to settings, scroll all the way to the bottom to software update, and it will download and install 2.3.6. I wouldn't suggest it , just because I don't like it or think it runs well, but try it out. Good luck, happy flashing.

Why would they not take it back?? You never flashed any custom ROMS from here right? All you did was flash the AT&T ICS update via kies and it gave you problems right? Knowing all that = true I will do all I can to help you (the only problem is I don't know anything) If you don't respond back in about an hour it's 6:30am now on the West coast I have to roll out for awhile. I would recommend first getting the ota 4.0 ICS update from att. Upgrading from ICS to Jb is a lot easier and smoother. From opinion upgrade in CWM not Odin. Cwm is harder to hard brick device like Odin does. As long as you have Cwm you can recover soft brick. To get Cwm the easiest way it to find a kernel and use Odin to install it. Once you have Odin your free to try what you want. I prefer the new JB leak. Good luck

Also not trying to be a ****, but I would advise you too to read a lot more. (OP pay attention too) Flashing a custom kernel with Odin will trip the flash counter, something not easily reset and something you're much better off avoiding. And there should be no problems upgrading from GB straight to JB if you flash ROMs via CWM, so I have no idea what you're talking about when you say the OTA to ICS should come first.
To OP, I will give three points of advice. Please heed them well, and remember that they are for your own protection and benefit, not mine.
1. Never, ever, EVER, I MEAN GOD FORBID EVER, use ROM Manager on an SGH-I777. NEVER!
2. CWM is built into custom kernels for I777. It is not separate, so do not try to update it unless you want to flash a new/different custom kernel. Again, NEVER.
3. Read this guide at least 3 times completely, until you fully understand everything in it, before attempting to further modify your phone.
Now, if you finish everything I said and still have questions, feel free to ask after then and I will try to help you. Good luck and Merry Christmas! Oh, and hit the thanks button if you find my advice useful, please
First welcome to a whole new world. I also used the Fuze for a while and Android is a whole new beast. Forget what you think you know and start fresh. Spend a day or 2 reading the threads. They may not make Sense at first but they will after you read a bit.
I have Gingerbread which is (according to my understanding) what is considered 'stock'
I downloaded CM10 and tried to install it using CWM but after a reboot I got infinite CWM booting (reboot back to CWM, reboot back to CWM forever)
Got told that it was because I didn't have stock and I needed to go
[MY CURRENT ROM] ==> [STOCK ROM] ==> [CM10]
but my current rom IS STOCK ROM, cause it is gingerbread...
then I was told that after the [STOCK ROM] stage I had to upgrade to [STOCK ROM] of android 4.x
cause that was the *ONLY* (is it?) way to also upgrade to boot loader which is needed to host the CM10 in my phone,
but I was too afraid to loose root
(thus loosing the option to use CWM, which I had no interest in..)
so I gave up on this path
>>> Could I get stock 4.x for my phone and use Mobile Odin Pro to root it and then install it safely without the fear of loosing root apon installation?
Instead I tried upgrading Gingerbread to paranoid of the same android prefix (2.x), since my gingerbread android rom is 2.3 and paranoid android rom is 2.5 there should not be any more any of the
"bootloaders upgrade only by installing stock roms" nonsense anymore..
so I went here:
http://goo.im/devs/paranoidandroid/roms/i9100g
Since I do have Samsung Galaxy S 2 GT-I9100G
and tried to install paranoid via CWM the same way - it let me back to infinite CWM booting once again....
then I was told that (from some unknown reason) it is because I didn't try to install it over stock rom or some other nonsense...
but GINGERBREAD IS STOCK... --__--'
I am clueless right now...
all I want is to get out of this useless crashy gingerbread into something more modern, what am I doing wrong? why do I always end up in infinite CWM booting?
what the tutorials I'm following are missing that I keep not doing which makes me end up in this situation every rom I try to install?
what is it, that one magical step that I don't do, that solves everything up and stops screwing up my installations attempts?
please.. help.. ty..
Do a clean upgrade through samsungs pc software(i believe it is or was called kies), cm10 is based on android 4.1.2 so you should have this version of stock rom installed since the rom is dependent on kernel which is changed with new versions of android. You cant run jelly bean rom with gingerbread kernel
Stock rom is every rom for your device officially provided by manufactorer not just the one you got your phone with, I think that you might have been mislead

can anybody please please tell me if when I upgrade my rooted gingerbread rom via samsung's method to 4.x android rom - WILL I LOOSE CWM on recovery boot?
