CM9 and wifi dropping - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

I installed CM9 alpha 0.03 and the wifi will not stay connected. The routers that worked perfectly with CM7 will not work with CM9, anyone else had/having trouble with wifi when using CM9?

Yes!! I had the same issue when I loaded it last night. went back to cm7 till the 3.0 kernal comes out.

Really, I haven't had this problem at all. Try turning the router. Also what wifi security type is it?
Sent from my Team A CM9 Alpha 0.03 Nook Tablet

I rebooted the NT a couple times and so far (2 hours) the wifi is working as it should. I have been using this at work on two wireless routers and I'll be trying it at home soon. I'll keep my fingers crossed, I hope the wifi problem was temporary. I'm loving CM9 otherwise.
Edit: The wifi security is WPA2.

One little update on my wifi problem. The wifi was working perfectly at work and at home until I ran an app that needed the sd card mounted (I figured it was mounted at boot but it wasn't) so I removed/replaced the sd card and bam, the wifi stopped working. I repeated this 5 times, same result every time, so I need to find out what is causing this problem.

I'm having the same problem. My wifi drops out when I run certain apps. For me, it's dropped out when running Gmail or any mail app, and BBC World News app so far.
This was not a problem at all until I changed my email passwords. Probably a coincidence but it happened at the exact same time.

I'd just like to give an update to say that this randomly stopped happening as randomly as it started. I've no idea what the cause is.

I am also having a problem. I am running CM9 externally and my wifi was working great until one day it just would not turn on. I tried rebooting it to no avail. Wifi still works in CM7 and stock ROM. Anybody have an idea to fix it? Thanks.

External is susceptible to getting corrupted. I would backup by TiB folder first... then I would just reformat the card ( sdformatter 3.1 ) and re make it. Hey, try Jelly Bean !

Well I cleared data and reflashed. Everything is working again. Just curious, I thought the JB build for NT was still beta? And just to got totally noob on you, how would I flash it to a sdcard partition? Thanks for the help.

My bad. Jelly Bean is not 'external sd card' ready. Those guys are super smart, so maybe, hopefully, it will be soon.
.
I wonder if Succulent is working on it also ?

[cm7] internal build issues to date

I've been playing around with cm7 since release, internal build so I haven't run into the brick problem, but I have noticed a couple issues that I never had with a plain 1.4.0 rooted nook tablet.
First, I am losing wifi connectivity when I let the tablet sleep for more than a few minutes. Wifi will remain on, but just scans indefinitely while finding no networks. Sometimes I have to toggle wifi off and on several times before it starts working again. I have never had it lose connectivity while it was active and doing something, only when I set it down for several minutes and then wake it up.
Secondly the youtube app has locked up my tablet requiring a reboot several times. Sometimes this happens on the first video played, sometimes I can get up to 4 or 5 before the screen just goes black and all input is ignored. I would have left this info on the alpha release thread, but I can't post there yet and wanted to pass this info along. I'm having a great time fooling around with it, and so far these are the only issues I've noticed.
I haven't had the wi-fi isses that I've noticed. Only things I've ran into are those already being discussed in the dev forum - the near-brick experience and larger apps not installing.
In spite of almost bricking, I've still been using the alpha over the last couple days and am definitely loving the freedom and speed over stock. Can't wait to see how awesome it becomes with further development.
The wifi issue can be fixed by adjusting the settings. You just need to turn off wifi sleep. I think this is a long time cm7 bug and not unique to this build. I have reverted to stock for now so I can't guide you through it, but I am pretty sure it's an easy adjustment. (I couldn't go without hulu while in the middle of watching a series.)

Yep, you just go to Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> WiFi Settings then press the menu button. This brings up a small menu bar with two options. Tap "Advanced" and you can change your wifi sleep policy there.

I believe the brick issue is in both the internal and SD release. Be sure to stay away from that SD card format button.

Yeah, I'm not sure where the misconception that it's the SD-Card version causing the problem, unless it's just confusion because the problem was cause by an SDCard Format....I think the issue occurs in either, and I know for sure the internal is succeptible to it, because mine is internal and I was an early-bricker.
Ok, my fault for not being clear I guess. I have no conceivable reason to format an sd-card from within the cm7 alpha release so I have continued using it. Turning wifi to always on seems to have fixed my wifi issues, with a negative impact on battery life.
Youtube is still crashing my NT with regularity but that probably has something to do with the generally bad video performance.

Yeah, Celtic and Gonce are working on fixing the video drivers. Right now they're a bit iffy.
-Unable to install some .apks and some apps from the market.
-Color is weird in some games (like blue instead of green)
-B&N Nook app not syncing or not working at all.
I have not used Netflix on it yet so I'm not sure of the quality for that or youtube. I have no need to wipe SD card so will continue to explore any bugs.

CM7 beta bug report
Hello, I can't post to the development forum yet, but I thought the devs working on the next CM7 release for the NT should know about a potential bug. Also, I've only began using an android device about a month ago, so please forgive any noobish remarks. If after reading this, someone thinks it's important for the upcoming CM7 build release, please let someone on the development team know. Thanks.
I've been using an internal install of the beta build since it was released yesterday morning.
Everything has been working, very well, and I haven't been attempting to format sd cards from the device.
I've had one crash of ADW launcher when trying to add a playlist through the music player widget. I had a minor wifi hiccup that required toggling the wifi on and off to resolve. And a crash of the notification bar, when I attempted to click on an email notification message, which resolved by itself, seconds later.
The bug I'm most concerned about happened just about an hour ago. I noticed the battery getting low, so i plugged it in, powered on. It started charging, so i left it alone, a little while later, I looked at it, and the "n" on the charger had changed from orange to green, indicating a full charge. I awoke the nook from sleep to find that it was no longer charging, but that the battery was only about half charged. I unplugged it, and plugged it back in, but the status light was orange for only a second, before changing back to green, and no more charging.
I powered it off, and plugged it it (which of course made it turn back on /facepalm), but then powered it down through the power console as soon as CM7 booted. I has been powered off, and as far as i can tell charging normally, as indicated by the orange status of the charger's indicator. I intend to leave it powered off, and charging, until such time as the charging indicator turns green.
There may be some information here that is valuable to the Developers and you have attempted to articulate everything well.
However, is there some reason you chose to create a new thread instead of posting your issue In This One?
Perhaps the moderators can combine these threads but I'm sure the developers are more apt to look in one thread then trying to chase down multiple ones.
Good luck with your issues.
Aw crud. Totally didn't see that thread. If a mod could please combine, it would be appreciated.
Maybe the bug thread should be stickied?

I've been having crashing/force closes trying to stream video from sites like youtube.....but with a more mature content....if you know what I mean.
If I'm being too obscure....basically I can't stream porn onto it. Which, imo, is a device-killing bug!
(not really)
On the plus side, it seems like it charges pretty well through a USB connection now, where, if I'm not mistaken, it would not do so on stock. Although I only had stock for like 3 hours before zerging it, so I can't compare it very well....
I was also sitting up waiting on the release of this and have been running it every since then. the only real bugs I have seen is the unable to install alot of apps from the market as it gives the cant write to sdcard which is documented in the dev forums. my wireless does not seem to drain my battery much at all but the device itself never wanted to go into sleep mode unless I forced it into sleep. I changed the screen timeout and changed it right back and the issue resolved itself. Wireless does commonly go from full signal to 2 bars though but even when at 2 bars the connection seems fine and no loss of speed. as far as apps over 20 meg. the only ones I tried I had the apk file stored on my sd card and installed from there and they all installed just fine.
the device seems way more responsive now and I am absolutely loving it although i do miss the nook reader app itself and the one I downloaded from the market gives ab internal error : exception executing the command when I try and sign in Cant wait for the next release alpha or beta I would love to test it.

Go to the "Nook" folder on your sd card, then delete it. then try to sign in on the nook reader. This has worked for others who now have the nook app up and running on cm7

Mostly I'm seeing the occasional app not installing. Every time it has been because "sdcard is not mounted". Even though it obviously it mounted. Aldiko reader is my current villain in this regard. No Wireless problems, but I changed the advanced settings right away. Interface is nice and fast.
Does anyone have any problems with installing games like need for speed

Touchpad problems

I am aware that the touchpad has wifi issues, but really at this point I am clueless.
Let me tell you, I was on CM9 with no mod's (e.g. rohan's) I had this app called WiFi fixer which "FIXED" from time to time. Me being curious about cornerstone I decided to try it, oh and WiFi wasn't really that buggy for me on this CM9.
I flashed the CM9 with cornerstone, and I got in a bootloop (ugh!) I forgot to do a backup (UGH!). Okay! Most stuff is in my download folder and I can use my phone's TB to get most of my app's back. I wiped all my stuff and reflashed, and here comes the problem. My WiFi never wants to turn on again. I tried rohan's mod, the new wifi driver (forgot it's name). With or without cornerstone. (latest CM9 nightly). I did found my router for a moment yesterday but it disappeared rather quickly when I manged to try to login to my google account.
In short, my WiFi is really buggy and doesn't want to turn on. Any advice someone?
BTW, WebOS works fine with WiFi

[Q] Notification Pull Down Doesn't Work on Lock Screen

I was running AOKP for over a month and the notification pull down would work while on the lock screen with no problems at all. One day, it just stopped working and I have no idea why. I of course wiped the Dalvik cache and did a full reinstall and it still didn't work. I even switched over to Serendipity 9 and it also doesn't work on that ROM either. I've used the CM9 kernal and Fluxxi and it doesn't work on either. The weird thing is that if I restart my phone, the notification pull down will work ONCE after rebooting then stop working for all attempts after that. If it helps, I do not have my SIM card installed. I don't have any security set for my lockscreen. It's at the default slide unlock. Any ideas?

Im not on latest, on 6-7 still, and its working.
but it could be a fix from AOKP themselves, it could be a bug, tho I see it as a nice feature.
Or It could just be that you need to full wipe. Funny how you started a thread before doing that.

I did several full wipes and reinstalls of AOKP and Serendipity. I believe I solved the issue: The SIM card needs to be in the phone during the first boot and can be taken out after that. So far it's been working for an hour without any problems.

CM10 Wifi

Anyone know of a fix for CM10 wifi? It stays connected (the wifi bar stays blue) but I can't download or upload anything. It will then randomly start working then stop again. I flashed to CM10 last night after being on CM9 for a few days. I had no problems with wifi in CM9. I honestly would love to just stay with CM7 but I had way too many wifi problems it drove me off the walls. CM9 seem to fix it and CM10 seems to break it again for me. Any suggestions?

Wifi works fine for me in CM10. Are you using an MX2 instead of a Droid X2? Because theres a wifi patch for MX2 users.
MX2 = Milestone Droidx2 (which is a non-Verizon version right?) I am using a Verizon Droid X2 and pretty sure it is not a MX2 as I mad the mistake and flashed the wifi patch and it wouldn't even turn on until I re-flashed everything again. When I went to CM10 last night, I SBF back to 2.3.4 before I flashed it into CM10 (I had a keyboard error that wouldn't let me do anything so I couldn't install system recovery).

I have wondered the same thing actually. I read that sometimes channels 10 and 11 cause issues so I changed that. What makes me think it is something else, is that it happens randomly on just about any wifi. Sometimes it just won't connect and I have to keep trying, other times it connects perfectly and has no issues. Other times it works fine then it just starts not working. I am in the process of doing an SBF since I did something to cause it to bootloop.
Well if it doesnt fix the problem, try using something like wifi fixer in the play store.

WiFi shouting off when nt goes to sleep

For some reason when my nt goes to sleep my WiFi shuts off, I have it set up to never shut off but it still does. Its not really a big deal, but causes a problem when downloading files, I've also noticed when im downloading torrents the wifi shuts off and restarts but not that much any suggestions on how to fix this would be much appreciated. Not sure if dev has kept it as turn off, but there was issue of huge battery drain with it turned on. It wasn't entering deep sleep. Kernel problem I think

Root chip kills wifi system
Please forgive a noob for being in the wrong place...if, in fact, I am.
Bought five nook tablets for four grandkids and self.
Got a root chip from Amazon:
Nook & Android - 4GB Micro SD Card for Nook Tablet Model BNTV250/BNTV250a
Put it in mine........worked JUST FINE.
Downloaded apps, good wifi on home net.
Got wifi on friends home net and at McDucks, etc.
A week later.......NO WIFI
And.......going to: settings/wireless and networks/wifi settings/.......ALL the options are "greyed out"
( yes, battery is 100%, even does it plugged in )
Threw it in a drawer for a month. Battery went to zero.
Charged it up yesterday. Flashed into Jelly Bean this morning.......WORKED FINE....WIFI CONNECTED.
This afternoon........nothing......back to the s/w&n/w/s...all greyed out.
Any hope....or is it just an Angry Birds toy for the neighbor kid ?
( I got the last EE degree in the US that studied vacuum tubes, and haven't the foggiest idea about partitioning, development, yadda-yadda )

Well........it has to be the SD card with the root program on it to get to JB, doesn't it? That is the ONLY WAY to get to the web on the nook, isn't it ?
(sorry....I'm not trying to be smart-a** ..... just that, in the Nook OS, you can't do ANYTHING )
I have no clue what version of JB it is.........didn't even know it was going TO BE JB, when I got it.
I had Go Launcher's battery app installed, and noticed that it has settings for shutting off Wi-Fi when idle. I removed the app and think my problem with dropped wi-fi went away. If you have the Go Power Master battery app (or a similar app), take a look in its settings.

Different ROMS have different issues. That's why more info was needed. This is an outdated ROM and I would suggest you make a new bootable sd-crad with CM10 instead and see if you have better success with that.
Don't buy a pre-made, make it yourself.
Follow this guide and all you HAVE TO do is download an image and burn it to a card. You may WANT TO increase the storage partition as well, but that's really easy.
http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/11/18/cm10-0-jellybean-sdcard-img-for-nook-tablet/
Edit: I'm a little bit confuses now that I read back. You say you run JB from the card. The data you gave (CM7.2) isn't JB.
Also an additional question: What happens when you remove the card and boot? Is wifi fine or still acting up?

CM7 (including CM7.2) for the Nook Tablet had a relatively very short development life-span and as such still had some unresolved bugs/issues by the time its development stopped -- including some wifi-related issues (see for example http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23591839&highlight=wifi#post23591839 and http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/06/12/cm7-2-rc1-build-20120612/#comments).
I agree you should upgrade to imafanof 10.1 image

I used image from here using win32to write to 16gb sd and mini tool partition to extend fat32 and very easy and works great with no issues of any kind. wifi setup a little different is only difference but more features and fun with Jelly Bean.
just follow his guide and you'll be glad. I always use sandisk class 4 for boot sd's.
