I use Xilisoft to convert movies to MP4. I have done a few for this device. They look smooth most of the time but if the movie has alot of action in a scene the picture gets somewhat pixelated.
I have converted to the correct screen size and aspect ratio. Bit rate at 1200 and FPS at 29.97.
Any idea what the optimum settings would be for this device?
im not convert videos...
I use MX Video and i watch all formats (avi, mpeg, rmvb).
Last movie (yesteday), i see Farenheint 9-11, bitrate was 720 and very good image.

What should the mp4's be converted to so that the 29/30fps is kept? Avi? I want to be able to edit in windows live movie maker and then upload to youtube, keeping the quality of a 720 or 1080p recording. I used a converter program today but the frame rate was not as smooth, it was down to 25fps, be it wmv, mpeg 2 or avi. Maybe the program I used wasn't so good.
Bumping my thread.
Most commercial bluray are 24.something fps. If you change to 30 you'll be inserting frames and losing quality.

I have two identical videos, both encoded using Handbrake, one an MP4 and one an MKV.
Here's the dilemma.
The MKV is a better container, plays well and in correct ratio on the PC in DivX Player but the aspect ratio is wrong on the Galaxy Tab and the three options cycling through the display aspects, stretch, fill, zoom etc, don't give me the correct ratio.
The MP4 however does play on the Tab correctly, and will play in DivX and QuickTime but I need to manually change the aspect ratio. Meh.
The stored display ratios look correct in the MKV header.
Any other thoughts?

Anyone got anything yet?
Anyone also noted that videos play way too dark on the Tab?
Has anyone experienced strange issues with aspect ratios in the stock Google video player on the Prime? I ripped my entire DVD collection last year, noticed about 20% were displaying poorly on the Prime, to the point of being unwatchable.
When I open them in other video players or devices they play fine.
Example of horrible aspect ratios:

Most movies are encoded around these specs:
Kind: MPEG-4 video file
Bit Rate: 156 kbps
Profile: Low Complexity
Channels: Stereo, Dolby Digital 5.1
Encoded with: HnadBrake 0.9.4 2009...
Total Bit Rate: 1903 kbps
Video Dimensions: 853x480
Video Codec: H.264
From the specs, you're using anamorphic encode. The encode is done at native DVD res (720x480 NTSC), and the aspect flag is set to expand out to 853x480 upon playback. The problem is that many of the Android movie players don't respect the aspect flag, and simply play the vids at 720x480, leading to a "skinny" aspect.
Contact the author to update the player, or try a different media player.
Try with another video player than the stock one. E.g dice player or mx video player. I think there is an option to change the aspect ratio in those apps.
Thanks MX Player fixed my aspect issue.
Hi! I'm trying to find a way to play 720p videos smoothly on my Tablet S but I can't find a proper bitrate for it. I tried 4000 but it's still laggy. On some tutorials I found they were saying to use 1500 as bitrate but that is ridiculous. A 720p video with bitrate 1500 will result in a lot of dead pixels. So what can I do?
I'm using Format Factory to convert the MKV videos to MP4 H.264/AVC 720p
Help please :crying:
Sorry bad english

The best video format for the Sony Tablet S is MPEG-4 (mp4) encoded using a H.264 CODEC with a pixel size of 1280 x 720, a bit rate of 1500 kbps, and a frame rate of 29.97 fps. The video's audio should be stereo AAC with a sample rate of 44100 Hz and a bit rate of 96000 bps. I use and recommend Handbrake for converting videos and MX Player Pro for playing videos.

Actually you can just download Dice Player or BS Player Lite. This two video player can play any mkv files I load into it. even upto 1080p  :good:
1080p are terribly laggy

Ok I tried some 720p MKV files and the sound isn't synchronized with the video. Also I still noticed some lag.

Try QQPlayer. I had a lot of problems with video playing slower than audio when using Dice and MX, but QQ seemed to clear them up. Other than that, try using a video converter (such as Handbrake) and use the Apple TV preset. Works for me.
I'm also disappointed by the Tegra 2 performance in video. Here are some thoughts and questions.
From my personal tries, all video players (MX, BSPlayer, Dice) have about the same performance (perhaps BSPlayer with ARMv7 plugin is a little better). Does every video player Tegra 2 video playback implementation are based on the same library?
Is there some way to make some low-level (asm) optimization that would help? I would gladly take a look if there was a way to do it.
I've noticed that even 720P High profile have some lag! Not very serious, but noticeable!! For example, Rise of the Silver Surfer 720P-HP trailer (see h264info.com/clips.html) lags at several points in the video. It may be clearly seen with BSPlayer, when displaying FPS information ('(i)' button during video playback).
1080P Baseline Profile seems to play smoothly (and H/W acceleration is enabled).
Video players disables H/W acceleration for High Profile 1080P so, of course it is terribly laggy. Is it a technical requirement? Isn't there a way to force H/W acceleration for Full HD High profile videos, even if that wouldn't mean full speed?
To which format I should convert my 2k and 4k videos to make them playable on Galaxy S3 Neo, any idea?
I get unplayable videos also after automatic mfpmp conversion to WMV.
I tried all these players and several formats, still no luck:
360VR
AAA VR Cinema
VaR's VR Video Player
Homido
Video Player for Android
VLC
VRTV Free
I had some success with lower resolution 3d 360° videos, but I need at least 1440 lines, because such videos are in Under/Over format, which means vertical resolution is actually half of video resolution, so 2K (1440) becomes HD Ready (720) and 4K (2160) becomes FullHD (1080), and when your eyes are 5 cm from display, you really need the highest possible resolution!

is it possible to edit forum engine limitatins about length of tags? "VR" and "3d" are useful tags but not allowed because shorter than 3 chars.
