Need a little clarification please - Motorola Droid X2

Is the X2, specifically on CM9, considered a "NAND Protected Device"
?
DX2 running ICS on CM9
I am not responsible for what you do to your phone

I would assume it is...how cm9 would influence that I have no idea. It def doesn't push us closer to an unlock.

[INFORMATIVE]DEFY gets ICS Port and We wait for RAZR....

Guys, did u hear this??? Our Defy has already got ICS port... Can we do something with this??? Check the link below, I dig it deep and see if I can find out something useful for RAZR... BTW, it is still in first phase.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1353003
Defy is rather old but have a strong and hardworking dev community. Glad they get the ICS from devs, we will get it officially. Patience is a virtue.

Hi all, Yeah! will be waiting for Dev to port ICS to Razr.
hope this would not take too long.

Yeah, watch at it, nothing works on there.
I'm sure ATRIX will get it too before the RAZR: ATRIX can count on other great devs like t0dbld and on an unlocked bootloader.
RAZR will get only the Motorola official ICS update 'cause even if there's at least me (I've ever been in Kernel jobs, never tried to build Android system partitions, but as someone asked me to try I will...) we still haven't got an unlockable bootloader (that will come with the ICS update) so it's useless to even try to build ICS for it.
That will result in a barely usable system as ICS will need (probably) a different updated kernel (2.6.36?) and won't work okay on our 2.6.35.
We just have to wait for Motorola to release the ICS update that will contain our joy (unlockable bootloader) and the new kernel with the new ICS system.
Ics doesn't even have flash right now. I can wait. Gingerbread works just fine for me.

Agreed. Ports never work 100% anyways. Why try to make this powerhouse look/feel like an older/lesser phone? We'll get it soon enough, and it'll be better than all other initial ICS phones, including the Nexus, in my opinion.

Yes guys, unlocking the bootloader is the first target for us.. but, did u guys check @droidrzr.com? They were able to manage to mod a partial ICS.. OTA Update I did is lagging me behind for the root, otherwise I would have given it a try... waiting for a proper SBF to unbrick if we stuck anywhere on flashing or Modding... Wait to be continued...

[Q] CyanogenMod

Just wondering how many of you would like to see CM come to the X2. I think that Eclipse and Liberty are amazing ROMS, I would just enjoy trying CM out.
I would love to. I flashed it on my Moms Droid Incredible the other day, freaking jealous as hell.
COOL
Hopefully by the end of the year, or early on next month, Moto will unlock the bootloaders so we can have it easier.
Don't see them unlocking the BL. But the great dev. We have here have gotten 2nd init working so it should come soon. Check out the progress in the development section.

CM is in the process of being ported as we speak. Unlocking the bootloader isnt necessary for CM at all.

civiz is right. It will probably never be unlocked unless its by cracking or a moto dev screws up or leaks it. Oh and its Verizon that wants it locked more then Moto
Main reason for unlocking is so the kernel can be customized, such as overclocking and other things. But, unlocking the BL is not necessary for CyanogenMod. As stated, check out the following thread for more info on it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380605
I meant the fact that the locked bl is staunting us from having customization faster than we should.

Could ICS be coming to X2 from Verizon?

Per Droid Life, and Twitter, Verizon tweeted that they are in the midst of updating their Software Upgrade Timeline. Droid Life is stating they feel the X2 is a yes in getting it.

We can only hope! I saw, tweet the snot out of Verzion and DEMAND ICS for the X2 (and adding an unlocked boot loader would be icing on the cake, er sandwich)
I have to agree with this list. Although I don't think the x1 down will receive ICS to push users to get newer devices.
It better also come with an unlocked bootloader IF we get ICS!
Good news. We deserve SOMETHING from Motorola. If not an unlocked bootloader then ICS for sure. Motorola has given us nothing but a few crappy bug fixes. lol. But Im not in too much of a hurry though since I have CM7 now.

True, very true. But, to have an official ICS means possibly that Dragonzkiller and company can REALLY go to town on CM9 for the X2!
Motorola better not stiff us on ICS like they did the boot loaders.
But, the X2 will still be my final Moto device since they lied to us about the boot loaders and have not returned a single email I've sent. And I've been cordial and tactful. No hate, no cussing, no name-calling; very business-like but frank and to the point.

It didn't, only way to get GB on the OG was through custom ROMs such as CM7.
ICS maybe is better then no ICS at all... err. Think we all need patience, I am sure Moto will be pushing ICS to their 4G devices first, but who knows.

Is somebody working on CM9 or ICS for X2 or are we going to need a pushed ICS update for the kernel before a ROM is attempted?
I doubt we will get it but if we do? A 4.0 superbloated blur infested phone is what we will have. My question would be...will 2nd init likely have to be started from scratch?

I'm waiting until either the bionic or razor to get it and watch their forums to see what moto has screwed up or even make it possible to root my theory is that we might have to create a new 2int which would suck

I hope we definitely get it, but if CM7 mod can get out of beta and be almost 100% working I'll be fine with that until ICS. Personally I think it's 50/50 for us to get it or not. It's arguably the best pure 3G dual-core phone on the market

Therein lies the potential problem. I believe all the multitasking logic is part of the kernel.
Therefore, until we can replace the kernel (either via an official update from Motorola or an unlocked bootloader), we're stuck with the 2.3.4 kernel, which probably means, no improvement in the multitasking.
What really has be upset now is, Motorola is releasing a new RAZR called the Developer Edition which was the bootloader unlocked.
We didn't want to have to purchase a new frickin' phone! Unlock the bootloaders for the phones we already own, you putzes!

This crap that Motorola is pulling has sealed their fate with me: I will no longer get ANY Motorola devices.
I mean, I have to purchase another phone in order to have it unlocked? And then, it HAS to be the RAZR? No removable battery? No way.
I mean, HOW many versions of the RAZR are they going to release? Ridiculous!

Partly, but Dragonzkiller has gotten ICS (CM9) to boot up on the X2, but it's very pre-alpha. Probably FCs a lot. But, he is working on it. Eventually, we should see CM9 for the X2, but it won't be a full-blown ICS. Until the kernel is unlocked (if that ever happens), we won't be able to replace it with the ICS kernel which will better utilize the two-cores for multitasking.
This thread was not started about the fake but to find out exactly what the kernel has to do with ics. I noticed even dk's has the gb kernel. Was just trying to find out if we were really going to get ics cm9 from dk or just gingerbread with ics on top. Either way i still support dk with his efforts just trying to get educated, i will still use cm9 even if it's not entirely pure.

It's as pure as he can get it. Until we have a way to replace the kernel, we won't be able to get a completely "pure" ICS unless Motorola releases ICS for X2. In that case, we'll have a pure ICS kernel and then all DK has to do is what he did with CM7 - recompile the rest and get it working for CM9. But, I don't know if we'll ever see ICS for the X2. Motorola hasn't said yes or no, but if we do get it, it probably won't be until late this year. If we don't see it by the end of the year, my guess is, we'll never see it.
Motorola has dropped the X2 like a bad habit, which is a shame. Way to screw your customers Moto. That's why I won't be back.
I'm with you on the motorola bootloader deal. This will probably be my last moto phone. until my plan is up I'm stuck with it.

The one thing I like about Motorola phones is the ability to SBF if anything goes wrong. Do other manufacturers offer this kind of feature? If not, that would probably be the thing that keeps me with Motorola. But I agree. I hate that they aren't unlocking the bootloader for us.

You just flash the system partition image and kernel. Which is basically what the sbf does. You still get to keep your recovery too because its in the recovery partition and the system flash doesn't write it.

Yeah it is truly ics. The kernel has nothing to do with ics. A new kernel would make is run smoother and easier. Think of your kernel as you cars motor. The body a rom. Kernel makes the car move. So in essence it might be a different motor but its still that mustang body

ICS on Atrix 4G - Does this matter for us?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1928844
I know that some of the code for the DX2 has come from the Atrix forums because (i think) we share a processor with that phone right?
Does this news (of a leaked ICS from Motoblunder) mean anything for us?
Would the seventh seal be broken and the moon turn red as blood if I tried to flash this to my DX2? (Or just a regular bricking?)
Anybody have an opinion?

I was wondering the same thing. It seems that a lot of things are ported from the Atrix
I do believe that a lot of stuff is pulled from the Atrix. But it doesnt change the fact that we still have a locked Bootloader. Without that, I dont think these kinds of things would help us fully. Maybe a little bit more code can be pulled from it to make our ROM better but again, our bootloader is still locked so we cant change the kernel or anything.
And also, DO NOT FLASH THAT ROM ON YOUR DX2! ROMs are not interchangeable. Flashing anything made for another ROM will ruin your phone.
I wonder if the camcorder could be ported over?

I doubt it. I would think the camera has something to do with the drivers. And I dont think we can install drivers. Dont quote me though. I'm just guessing.
i knew these questions would appear soon. but yeah, this probably wont help us much since, like said above, we dont have an unlocked bootloader, and the only things different between the atrix && the x2 is that the unlocked bootloader, the x2 has 512 mb of ram && the atrix has 1 gb
That ICS leak also comes with the appropriate ICS kernel for the atrix, flashing it on the dx2 would do no good.
