Just wondering how many of you would like to see CM come to the X2. I think that Eclipse and Liberty are amazing ROMS, I would just enjoy trying CM out.
I would love to. I flashed it on my Moms Droid Incredible the other day, freaking jealous as hell.
COOL
Hopefully by the end of the year, or early on next month, Moto will unlock the bootloaders so we can have it easier.
Don't see them unlocking the BL. But the great dev. We have here have gotten 2nd init working so it should come soon. Check out the progress in the development section.

CM is in the process of being ported as we speak. Unlocking the bootloader isnt necessary for CM at all.

civiz is right. It will probably never be unlocked unless its by cracking or a moto dev screws up or leaks it. Oh and its Verizon that wants it locked more then Moto
Main reason for unlocking is so the kernel can be customized, such as overclocking and other things. But, unlocking the BL is not necessary for CyanogenMod. As stated, check out the following thread for more info on it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380605
I meant the fact that the locked bl is staunting us from having customization faster than we should.

I currently have the incredible 2 and am thinking of coming to the dx2. With a little research doesn't look like there's much dev support for here or is that because its so new? Just trying to see if its a good idea and looking for a couple opinions. Thanks!

We're at the beginning of the cycle with this phone so I think that is the reason you don't see much activity yet. An SBF was just procured and some developments are starting to trickle out. I just moved from the original DROID and so far I'm very pleased with this phone. I've rooted with gingerbreak and am running the supercharger script.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Lack of dev support was due to a locked bootloader...we still have a locked bootloader but we do have a way into a custom recovery. It is just a matter of revs hopping on and making roms.
99% of the devs looking into this are prob passing it up until we get gingerbread so they don't have to make their roms twice.
Thanks, just read another thread and realized the questions were asked. Had same issue with dinc2 bootloader being locked but finally was cracked and am rooted now. Phone is great I like it but because of signal issues in my area Verizon is sending me a Droid x2 to try out. Dev support for dinc2 isn't that great either but got the main roms like CM7 and miui with couple others brewing. Just trying to decide if this would be a good switch. Thanks

Not sure, has moto released their source code? Without source from moto it is damn near impossible to make a custom kernel (at least the way i understand it). No custom kernel means no overclocking. Also it seems development on this phone has been pretty limited to newcomers. Once we start getting more experience support, things should take off. Nitro just released his first x2 rom and ThatDudeButch is working on his rom...these two guys alone are great resources but also with Butch we also get TeamBamf support and they can really make things happen. Not to mention, we all saw what p3droid was able to do in about a day. So to sum this all up..I guess we just have to be patient and hope more developers jump on board.
The droid 2 and the droid x can be overclocked because they actually made dev versions of those phones that were unlocked, which afforded a developer a peak under the hood so a kernel module could be written. With root that module can be installed on the locked kernel and over clock abilities are accessible. The X2 had no developer version, no way to write the proper module. Soooooo we're screwed until Moto and Big Red decide to give us the keys to our own phones.

Disappointing to say the least. I have been happy with my rooted GB X2 so far but I still feel so... limited with it. A change to a different brand is surely resurfacing again in my head. Been drooling over the DINC2 for a while now but have been holding strong for the X2 waiting for some kind of miracle soon.
I'd love to see a 1.4-1.5 ghz OC on this bad boy along with AOSP GB D:.

Blame motorola for not making a x2 dev phone, but mostly for encrypting the bootloader keys so well. If we could just get Geohot interested he'd probably have the keys faster than a junkie diving into the pool for a crack rock.

Unless the X2's bootloader gets unlocked, I don't see much more development than what's already been done.
My question still is: Is it just that the bootloader is that big of a pain in the arse, or does 850 dollars really not entice the right people..? lol

I do not want this to become a rumor because "coming soon" is a very bad way to put it. If this rumor is about my current project, I'm telling you right now that CM7 is not my current project. What I will tell you is that what I'm working on will help me or whomever with CM7 and any other ROM dev such as nitro and his Eclipse ROM. Until then, CM7 is only a dream that every X2 owner (including myself) see as a future goal and not as a current project.
Also, moderators can we get this move out of the dev section and into the general or Q&A section? Please keep this section clean for actual development related topics.

Oh yeah to the OP....IF we had a way to have any CM(cyanogenmod).on X2. It would be in the sticky originally posted by booked....which.is.consistently updated/monitored by booked) trust that anything u need or want that is possible for X2 is there.
This is not development. Please don't post question threads in the dev section...
Moved to general.
I doubt CM7 will see the light of day on the X2 unless the boot loader gets unlocked.
Since CM7 uses a custom kernel, the kernel in the X2 cannot be replaced/modified until the boot loader gets unlocked, which in turn would unlock the kernel. That's the reason CM7 hasn't been released for the X2 since it uses a modified kernel, which is different from a modified ROM.
Until then, we have to use the current ROMS which are coming out that mainly remove bloat from Verizon, tweak the UI (such as the task bar) and do some other tweaks to the settings to help improve the performance and maintain battery life. I really like the Eclipse ROM from Nitro. He's doing an excellent job. There's also Liberty and Molten.
Things like overclocking are not possible until the kernel itself is unlocked. However, due to encryption and not having access to the key to do the decryption, this is next to impossible. From what I've read, the only way to get the bootloader unlocked is to have some developer from Motorola leak an unlocked boot loader/kernel image. I believe that's the only way it happened with the Droid X or some other Motorola phone.
As for Motorola's statement that they would unlock phones starting in October, that was allowed ONLY if the carrier allowed it. Verizon isn't allowing it. So, the only way to really get this to happen is to complain to Verizon who probably will just ignore the complaints anyways.

I'm sorry to say that the only unlocked Verizon device is the XOOM. The DROIDX and all other Verizon Motorola devices are still locked. We can however use 2nd-init to essentially rewrite our root file system and restart the boot processes. This is how the DROIDX does it and that is how we will do it. The kernel cannot be replaced, that part is correct. But we can still get CM7 running. I have twice, but there were too many FCs to even begin calling it usable.
Sorry for posting I'm the wrong section. I'll just keep my questions to myself or stick with the more friendly boards.

Thanks for the clarification. I was under the mistaken impression the DROIDX had been unlocked. The X2 is my first Motorola Droid, so I wasn't up on all the other hoopla except from what I read and thought I understood.
In any case, thumbs up for doing whatever development/testing I see you tweeting about.
Some nice ROMs and themes came around after the bootloader was unlocked last summer, but I can't help but feel as though the dev community is done with it. There's still no Cyanogen and I just know it's not getting any ICS goodness.
Why is that? The Droid X2 is still one of the best Android phones out there, plenty of people have it. Opinions?
The bootloader has never been unlocked.
The X2 is a great phone....if you've never played around with another android device before.
we still have devs around, like dragonz, ace, masta, and that team, theyre trying to port over CM7 and we have 2nd-init, so theres still dev love, but with the BL not being unlocked as of yet there isnt too much we can do at this moment

As stated, the bootloader is not unlocked. Root was acquired, but that is different from unlocking the bootloader.
But I feel what else hurts it is the 512mb main memory. Even though it's a dual-core phone, the limited main memory has hurt it, IMHO.
But, the locked bootloader is what has really held this phone back. As stated by ztotherad, you can only release so many deodexed ROMs before it just doesn't matter anymore. I think we are getting to that point.
Since the kernel and bootloader are locked, you can't do much more customization.
We are on the brink of aosp roms running on our phones. That has taken a lot of time to work on, and by some wonderful devs. It may have taken a while bit this phone is starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Really there are now only a small handful of things this phone cannot do, like overclock, but we are now seeing a huge door open for us and its all because of "dev love", a few never gave up on this phone even though so many others have.

That depends.
My previous phone was an LG Vortex - ARM6 processor, 600mhz processor, Android 2.2.
So, the X2 is a major upgrade compared to that sorry excuse for an android phone. But hey, it was free!
Why no dev love for the x2?!
That's an understatement to the awesome devs that we do have. There 2nd-init development is no joke.Im suprised they stuck with the dx2 and didnt move to another device seeing as how difficult it is to work with. I have faith in the devs here with the dx2 in a matter of time they'll get it running sum sweetness.

How in the world can you say that there is no development for this phone? Yes, it's been slow, and yes, not a lot are on it. But the ones who are (definitely myself included) are hard at work trying to get this thing going.
Read the development forums. I have at least two [REF] posts in there that explain a lot of the work I've been doing. In fact the one about CM7 needs another update. I update my twitter before I update that though. It's @dragonzkiller. Even if you don't have an account just look me up and you can see that I've been making a lot of progress with CM7. That, sir, is dev love.

Thanks for me filling me in; didn't realize that having root and unlocking the boot loader were different. I wasn't hating on the devs when I said there was no love; there is plenty of it, it's just that X2 ROMs never seem to play nice, and low RAM doesn't help an often slow and buggy UI.
