Bluetooth Issues - HTC Rezound

I have just recently gotten a rezound about 3 weeks ago and I have noticed issues with my bluetooth. Not all, but most people I talk to on the other end say my voice is muffled and has lots of static. I can't figure out how to remove it. I've attempted turning everything off (wifi, gps,4g) and the static is still there. I've read about some people having issues on vzw site and HTCs site but haven't seen it mentioned anywhere here. I'm am running the latest ICS leak, which has nothing to do with it because the phone did it before I updated the firmware. This is all on a Plantronics M100 that worked flawlessly with my Dinc. If I can't resolve this I may have to return this phone for something else because I HAVE to have a working bluetooth. If anyone has a bluetooth that works great let me know and ill try it to see if I can get one that works. Who knows maybe this bluetooth doesn't like this phone. Anyways, thanks in advance...

I know what you are talking about. I use a samsung hm3500 for videos and audio because it supports A2DP. But it is also just a Bluetooth headset. Probably the coolest one I have found. Great for watching videos without headphones.

Anyway, yes I have the same issue with the HM3500. People tell me my voice sounds muffled, but when I switch to the phone mic, it sounds much better. I assume it is just a low quality headset? I only paid #10 for it.

I use a jawbone era. It works the same on this phone as it does on my dinc and my charge.
I mean.. I MIGHT be the phone. Call and get a replacement, if its still a problem then get something else I guess.
The best thing to do to check it, is to call yourself and leave yourself a voicemail. Talk with the headset, turn it off and talk with out it. Go back and forth s few Times.
Repeat with the dinc.. compare the quality yourself. It has been my experience that other people are bad at accurately describing problems.

Quick troubleshooting
I have had occasional problems too on my phone, but the wife's does not.
Check how you hold the phone. There is a mic hole on the bottom edge you do not want to cover with a finger, I did. Take off the back cover and check that the mic hole is open, not clogged.
Does the audio input accessed by the keyboard (for voice recognition text input) hear you and work well? If that does not, the phone isn't picking up your voice. You could also try making a voice recording and playing it back to check the quality.
Try a bluetooth headset or car radio handsfree. If those work fine then the problem is likely with the phone/mic. That will involve a replacement.

Ill try the voicemail thing. The problem is with my bluetooth not the phone mic itself. When I switch to that people say I sound much better. I have tried several different ways of holding it with all the same result. I made several phone calls last night and some were land lines. My wife said one time I sounded staticky and the rest of the time it was better. Other calls I made the other people said static as well. I don't know what would cause it to be intermittent like this.

Bluetooth
I would try a different bluetooth set. I use mine with a bluetooth motor cycle helmet head set and it works just fine. Also with a Motorola stereo set sounds good to.

Ok really starting to get pissed at this Rezound. Got another headset to try and....same results. Callers on the other end say I sound extremely loud like my mouth is right on the bluetooth and the audio is very muddled. Why is this all the sudden a problem??? My other bluetooth worked great with my original incredible. If I can get this resolved I'm ditching this phone and getting something else because I NEED bluetooth. Someone please tell me a headset that works for theirs and I will try that one!

[Q] Mic Turns off when headset(Aux) plugged in on thunderbolt

I have been using a standard aux(3pole) cable with my Droid, Droid 2 and HTC Incredible, to connect it to my car speakers and listen to music. The nice part is all those phones did not turn off the mic on the phone. The thunderbolt turns off the mic so when I get a call I hear the person on the other line through my car speakers but he doesn't hear me(mic turns off). Any one know if it is possible to enable the phone mic to stay on? I am open to mods or roms, i just really need this to work.
Kinda frustrating because it works with my other phones.
This is very frustrating. As far as I know, there is no way around this yet. We'll have to wait for either an HTC software update or something Like CM7 to fix it. I wouldn't get my hopes up for HTC to fix it, since they are saying that the phone was designed to act like this. I think our best bet is to email HTC with the issue. They can't ignore ti if they are getting thousands of complaints about it... can they?
i hope cm7 will take car of it. I have cm6 running on the incredible and it works just fine.
Its a safety issue in my mind, it lets me drive hands free with just an aux cable. Instead of fiddling with it to make it work. This is the only thing that i dont like about the Thunderbolt.
this is extremely frustrating. I used to use that all the time on my OG droid and on my atrix.

I got 2 of these, 1 for each car and it works perfectly. Hope this helps.
Remember seeing a code snippet either on irc or twitter yesterday that looked like HTC hard coded the headset value into the software so it thinks anything plugged in has a mic.
When this happens I just hit the speaker button on the phone and the mic comes back on, not the best solution but at least something for now.
Just got off of the phone with an HTC Support Rep. He did some digging and discovered that this model has issues with headsets that have volume controls on them (e.g. iPhone headset). He had no idea for a fix, no other information available. I asked him to open a support ticket in my name, however. <== Anxiously awaiting to see if CM7 resolves this issue too.

I just can add that ZTE Blade (San Francisco), behaves the same way.

I'm already thinking about using an auxiliary cable with mic to connect the phone to my car as pointed out by vitsdroid.
I use the inline mic for my car setup so that I can answer a call which I am listening to music.
If its an important call then I switch to a wired heardset/mic which is alot quieter for the person on the other end of the call.

[Q] Atrix thinks wired headset button is CONSTANTLY BEING PUSHED

Music plays fine out of the wired headset...it always has. The headset has functioned properly until about two weeks ago. At that time, my Atrix began to think that I was pressing the headset button. Constantly. Over and over. Any time the screen is on with the headset in, it redials automatically. When the screen is off, it does it too, because when I turn the screen on, it gives me the vlingo vs. voice command box. Also, when I make a call with the headset plugged in, the other person can somehow not hear me at all, until they call me back, and it's fine. The phone thinks the headset button is being pressed once every few seconds. THIS IS INCREDIBLY ANNOYING.
I know it's not the headset, because I've tried three different headsets (two by Motorola, both the 'official' wired headsets of the Atrix, and one third-party), all with the same result. Also, it's not just my phone! Oddly enough, I replaced my Atrix with AT&T's warranty, and THE NEW PHONE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.
Has anyone else experienced this, or have the slightest clue what is going on? I've looked around the internet for weeks now and I haven't seen a single instance of it. Pleeeeease. This is brutal.
My headset with mic and button does not have any issues. Its the bose MIE2 mobile phone headset.
Yes I have experienced this as well and it is super annoying I will prob swap it out and hope I don't get another messed up one. Sometimes when I am in my car and connected to my bluetooth handsfree it'll do the same thing and start a song playing and I don't even push anything!!! Hope someone figures this one out.
theres defo something funny about the atrix headphone jack and remote controls.
At first my nexus one remote worked fine with it, but it started doing funny things, then flat out would go crazy (issuing commands without me touching it etc.)
Gave up and went wireless, now I only use wired @ the gyma dn they're just dumb headphones w/out remote

Yes, yes, and yes on having this problem. I use my headphones (SkullCandy FMJ) sometimes when riding my bike and yesterday all I kept hearing was "please say a command...did you say...I'm sorry please try again" over and over...hard to deal with at 70MPH!!! Hope this gets fixed, I thought it was my headphones, but it sounds like another GB issue. I don't have any problems when using my SENA SMH10 Bluetooth inside the helmet.
I had this same problem, mine got randomly solved. You could find how the wiring world for the Atrix and block that connection or cut off the controller on the headphone and solder your headphones back together.

Thanks for the feedback, but a)I'm not looking to do any soldering or rewiring (I'm good with software mods, but not hardware mods), and b) it never happened until recently, then I swapped out the phone for a new Atrix, and it happened right off the bat - again with all three headsets. Tried a bluetooth, worked fine, no problem.
I tried a new headset (skull candy something-or-other) and it's been working so far, inexplicably.
I made a voodoo doll of my Atrix and poked it a bunch of times in its little voodoo headphone jack. Seems to have done the trick. I'd recommend that method.
I have this problem too with my headphones from my Sony x1, or x10. I cant remember which one. But as soon as I plug them in the phone goes nuts!
Which really sucks because they are they best headset/ headphones I have ever used for my funny shaped ears.
I think mine fixed after I dropped it and the headphones came out Anyways as long as its resolved that's awesome.

i also started to experience this issues.At first i thought it is kernel or ROM issue but then after multiple test and experiment it is the Atrix 3.5mm headset jack is the culprit.If im not mistaken it is due to pressure contact sensor inside headphone jack.Please anyone know how to rectify this kind of problem do post your solutions for us.TQ

I had the same problem with a BB9700. It ended up being a damaged headphone jack. I figure some crap from my pocket had been in the jack when I plugged in the head set. Which jammed everything into it wrecking the receiving end of things.
Luckily I had a spare housing which came with a new jack. I'm not sure if it's as easy to replace on the Atrix since I haven't had the opportunity to tear it apart yet.
Power amp has settings that fix my controls and it works great.

I have same problem too. But I have this problem on stock ROM and CM10.1 (with 3.1 kernel) ROM. I don't have this problem with any other ROM.

[Q] Bluetooth disconnecting

I enjoy listening to my podcast's all day long. However, my bluetooth disconnects without warning nor is it predictable. The bluetooth indicator is lit blue as if is connected. Also, in settings, there is no sign of it being disconnected. The only way to get my bluetooth to reconnect is to toggle my bluetooth off and then on again.
I tried to replicate the issue at the Best Buy where i bought the phone, but had no luck getting this to happen. Best Buy replaced the phone only to find out that i still have the same issue.
I typically use Dogcatcher for podcasts. Uninstalled it and started using Stitcher. Unfortunately still getting this issue. Even went as far as buying a different brand of stereo bluetooth headset.
Any one have any ideas?

Just for reference....I use a Blueant Q1 headset and Motorola S10HD headphones and no issues with disconnects, at least with music or audiobooks.
I was actually going to post something about this but haven't got around to it. Mine disconnects all the time, I have to shut off/on and then it will reconnect. It sucks. Also, when I put my phone in my pocket when I'm on my phone I get some very crappy sounds through my BT. I mean, its like 3 ft away max, through cloth, why would that matter? Is the BT radio on this phone really that bad? Anyone else having similar issues?
I remember this happening with my first phone but I thought it was my earpiece. I have upgraded my earpiece, still doing the same thing and has gotten worse lately. But the other thing is that I can walk pretty far away 30-40 feet before she disconnects, in my house around walls and such, so I don't get it.

I'm having the same bluetooth sound issues as you DJ, except I don't hafta have the phone in my pocket. If I put the phone to my other ear I can hear the caller thru the headset & it stutters in the bluetooth.

I'll give Moto techs a try. Otherwise, its too difficult to replicate the problem at the Sprint Store. All they do is wipe the phone and hand it back to me which is not acceptable. Especially when i explain to them that i have tried this with no improvement.

This used to happen with my EVO as well so I wasn't shocked when it happens with the photon from time to time. What happens is that the media connection gets lost while the headset is still connected to the phone audio. I use a Jawbone ICON and ERA and it happens with both. I listen through my headsets all day every day so I'm pretty used to it. Usually if I un-pair and re-pair the headset it solves it for a while. Just make sure the headset says its connected to both phone and media audio.Hopefully it will be corrected through an update soon. I'm sure they have a long list of stuff to repair...
I have the same BT audio disconnects as others while I was listening to stream music, very frustrasting, I had the phone swapped due to other issue, but this still happened very randomly. Infact, as the other poster said above, BT audio disconnects also happened to my previous HTC phones(Diamond, EVO 4G & EVO 3D)as well.

I have a Plantronics Voyager Pro+ and my Photon practically refuses to play my visual voicemails through it. When I attempt to play a voicemail, the scrub bar runs through it in like 1 second even though the voicemail may be 2 minutes long and no sound is heard through the BT. If I then disconnect and reconnect the BT, the message(s) will play properly for a short time. So most times, I either disconnect BT to play my messages through the speakerphone or earpiece or I dial into my voicemail with my BT. Overall, it is a frustrating situation. However, I guess things could be worse.
I have a similar issue with Bluetooth for HID devices (mouse / keyboard). I have the webtop hdmi hack in place. I haven't tested this with the latest ota yet.

Disconnect from car handsfree
Looks like I have same issue,if I am in my car and talking over car bluetooth build-in system it will disconnect after some time, need to toggle bluetooth button on phone screen to send it back. I never had this problem with Epic4g before. I am in battery safe mode is it possible that after awile phone think that it can shutdown bluetooth. I am rooted but using battery mode without ant 3rd party app. Also can someone post link to related Motorola tech forum described above gor Photon 4G?

After doing some searching, I found this thread.. I'm having the same issue with a photon I picked up acouple of weeks ago. I'm running stock root. Is there a fix for this, or is a custom rom a way to fix it?

Hi, I am also having same problem, bluetooth disconnects automatically so no file transfer and also when i use wired headfone to listen songs and when i put fone in my pants pockets, it stops the music and give me blutooth option for voice commands

[Q] Poll on Rezound audio interference

There were a few threads a couple weeks ago about the Rezound's audio interference when listening over the 3.5mm jack, but no one has updated those in a while, and it wasn't clear whether this was a widespread issue or just a few units. There's been a couple articles on major websites (e.g. theverge.com), but they all quote HTC's statement that this is "an isolated issue with only a few reports." Needless to say, I don't quite trust that statement.
The issue I'm talking about is the chirp/crackle/whine that happens when listening to audio. It sounds like a data transmission from the radio or cpu. You can easily hear it by listening to audio with the phone's volume turned all the way down, through headphones or plugged into a car's stereo.
My own Rezound definitely has this issue, so I'm wondering whether I should try to get it replaced by Amazon (I'm two weeks in to my 30 day window). But besides this issue, everything else about it has been fine. So, my good people, it's up to you! Is this something that's on every unit, or just a few? Please vote so we can know how widespread this issue is!
Me and my wife have been through a total of 6 and all have had it, but some worse than others. Got a refurb from Verizon a while back and its not near as bad but still there.
Yesterday, I asked HTC for an ETA on the patch to fix this, but haven't heard back yet.

I hear a slight slight buzz for a few seconds when I pause audio, it is absolutely inaudible while any other sound is playing though, so I dont know if I have the same problem.

I've noticed this only happens with my rezound when it's charging and I try to play music through headphone jack at the same time
I have it, got a vzw replacement and it also had it. Tried demos at 2 different stores, both had it. I think they all have it. Just need to turn the volume down in a quiet environment. Personaly I can hear it during calls. It's not terrible, but when you know it's there you always here it.
I must be lucky. I don't have that problem with the audio. So far, my device is working great. I have different headsets and have not heard that. I have a very expensive over the ears headset. And a way cheaper Bose in-ear headset and nothing but good sound.

I have really good hearing, but I could barely hear the static in the VZW store over the ambient noise in the background. But finding the same problem on 5 different phones between stores in NY, NJ, and a certified factory replacement makes me believe it's widespread. If not they should be able ensure that a replacement doesn't have the same problem.
Since the poll is about 50/50 I'll try another factory certified replacement.
Even though I can't recall anyone who's reported the sound issue ever receiving a replacement without a sound problem.
I have heard "hissing" before. But my Rezound does not make it. I am very familiar with and it's one of those things that I don't like. In fact, its common with some of the low quality burned CDs some people make. It's something I dislike. A lot. lol. I too can like good audio quality. It's the reason I spend a lot of money on high quality headsets. If various music formats made that hissing. And not just low quality tracks I would know. Good luck.

I'm not really noticing this besides when I'm on YouTube. It seems like if you have a continuous flow of sound, its hardly recognizable (especially at a high volume). For example, while listening to music, I hardly notice this, but when I'm listening to someone talk on YouTube, in between the persons sentences I can hear the static. Also if I am watching YouTube, if I pause a video I can hear the staticy whining for a good 2 seconds perfectly clear

[Q] Bluetooth to car stereo phone noise

Hi all. New here, so hopefully this will be concise enough.
T-mobile HTC Amaze 4g, no mods, all stock plus a few apps. Everything working fine on the phone. Purchased a Platronics BT headset, works OK; limited range, but passable. Just bought a Sony MEX-BT4100P car unit. Did the install myself (retired auto technician, so I know a little about doing it correctly). All working OK, BT pairs fine, functions all good (Phone book, redial, etc). Problem is a buzz noise during calls, only audible on the other end of the call, but it's pretty loud. Sound is similar to a slightly shorted mic cable. Voice is audible, just a loud background buzz. No noises with any other car stereo function. No noises with any other phone function.
Talked to car stereo vendor, they sent new unit and microphone. No change. Talked to HTC. They say that since the Plantroncs works fine, there's no problem with the phone.
I'm trying to find out if anyone else has experienced this specific issue and if so what had to happen to resolve it.
Any thoughts? I don't have another BT phone to try
Android 4.0.3, Sense 3.6. Don't know what other info might be helpful.

I remember having a plantonics headset. They were awful for me and they broke eventually. Did you try another headset? I think the headphones you're using could be the source of the problem. Hopefully someone else experienced in BT and headsets can assist you.

The Plantronics headset is fine; it's the Sony car stereo BT function that's making the noise...
It's been a while since I've had the stock ROM on my phone, but try looking under the settings menu in dialer for 'noise suppression' and make sure it's ticked.
Does your head unit have a gain setting for the mic? I had a JVC unit that had one in the Bluetooth menu settings.
Actually, I just looked up your manual, you do have a mic gain.
It looks like you also have an echo canceller/noise canceller setting as well. See what playing with those do for you.
Failing those options, it sounds like you have interference in your mic. Try routing it away from any wires that carry current. You might try just holding it out in the open and making a test call.

Head unit - I've tried all settings on mic gain and noise cancellation with no changes at all to the noise, although voice quality changed as expected.
Microphone has been pulled out of the car, literally to the full extent of its cable, with no change. I've wrapped the mic and its cable in tin foil and jumpered that tin foil shield to chassis ground with no change.
It does indeed to me sound like microphone interference, but nothing I do, including a different mic, changes the noise. Head unit and mic have been changed out for new.
Does it happen even with the engine off?

This tells me it's not interference, at least not from the car's electrical system. Do you happen to live under high tension lines?

Follow the path, eliminate as you go.
1. Unplug the mic completely. Make a test call, see if your caller hears the noise still. If not, it's either the mic (replaced already, but not unheard of to get multiple bad ones. Try a desktop computer microphone?) or poor shielding in the radio (not easy to fix, even harder to locate.) If it's still there....still might be shielding in the head unit. Unlikely though.
2. You've already messed around with the head unit's settings. Nothing to do here.
3. Bluetooth. My radio used a USB bluetooth adapter, yours is built in. Can't try a different BT.
4. Phone. You don't know someone with a phone with bluetooth? If pairing with a different device results in a clear call, it's the phone (you could try rooting/updating/replacing it. Maybe they just don't like each other?) If the noise is still there with a different phone, it's either the head unit (you got another bad one or they just don't make them very well) or it's outside your control. Maybe the tower itself. You could try driving quite some distance away, till you're on a different tower. See if it's clear then.
Beyond all this, I really don't know of anything else to try, apart from getting a different head unit.

I did try unplugging the mic and the noise goes away, but according to Sony and the vendor, if a mic isn't plugged in, the entire audio chain gets muted automatically, so it's not much of a test. I'm going to see if I can dig up another mic like a computer mic with a mute or on/off switch and see what that might do.
I'm in a rural area and not too many cell phones I can borrow here. Might be one I can find...
I'll try another tower too; that's something I have not tried. But this really sounds like audio input chain noise rather than post-processing noise. I was an audio engineer in a previous life and I am still leaning towards mic-related issues...

Update... Tried driving to another location, and voila! The noise disappeared. I'm now getting normal audio from the system. And what's really strange... back at the house the noise is gone as well...
Thanks to all for the suggestions and ideas! Glad it wasn't something more difficult to fix...
