S-Off Advice? - HTC Rezound

So I'll be making a second go at this inan hour or so. I'm leaning towards Clean ROM 4.5 pro. Questions are:
A) I am thinking I'll follow the instructions for S-On installation, and look at playing with the wire trick later in the week. I'm unsure if it's better to S-Off first, and if so, why?
B) Clean ROM looks solid and stable, but I haven't had time to read deep on any other ROM posts yet. Should I anticipate any bugs, or is there a strong recommendation towards any other ROM?
Plan will be to unlock, OCR, install OCR hboot, and follow the S-On Clean ROM installation instructions. Identifying any pitfalls with this in advance would be awesome.

If you are capable of following instructions just s-off now to save yourself the hassle later.

So:
Unlock Bootloader
AIO to install AmonRa and get perm root
S-Off per http://unlimited.io/juopunutbear-public-beta-0-1/instructions/htc-rezound/
Install Clean ROM per S-Off instructions in the thread
Assuming the order here is good, only question is whether it's recommended to install the juopunutbear hboot at the prompt?

Interesting, I noticed after achieving S-off that the bootloader again shows as locked. Not sure if I should go through the unlock process again or not. Thinking that may be a bit immaterial at this point...

You don't have to worry about unlocking the bootloader again. Once you're S-off, you're good to go.

Clean ROM is very solid for the most part. The biggest bug that I can speak of is the fact that the screen has a tendency to go to sleep during phone calls, and you need to press the power button to wake it back up. Other than that, it's very smooth, very reliable.

All the help is appreciated. Not new to this, went from the G1 to Nexus to Fascinate to Thunderbolt to Rezound. All rooted from the day I brought them home. This process was a bit different, and happy to say I'm up and running Clean Rom without issues. Looks like I still have the GB Hboot, and swype doesn't seem to work properly, other than that it's looking great.
I installed SetCPU to throttle the kernel for battery, but it doesn't seem to put a dent in quadrant scores. And idea if it works properly on the stock kernel?

Is your hboot still S-off? If so, youre probably able to reflash recovery and regain root
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
You just need to follow the "UNROOT" instructions which will roll your Hboot back and then run Revolution again.... (*Or at least thats what I understand from all the reading I have done.) The method they used to get us permanent NAND unlock seems to truly be permanent so you just have to use the HTC Bootloader unlock, then use that to roll the HBOOT back in order to use Revolutionary.
*I have not done this and never will have to but this is my understanding. As always YMMV and if you BRICK IT,well, you already BOUGHT IT.

Hit up that guy who posted that reply. I am pretty sure he did it and redid it a couple times. (*I think)
FORGET IT! That guy actually still had his S-off from Revolutionary and DID NOT take the OTA which is how your NAND was relocked. For now, either sit tight and wait, again, for Rev and Unrevoked to hopefully cook something up or use the HTC method and enjoy half root.
Sorry bud....
I hope so... I was chatting yesterday with them at their IRC channel and they were saying it may not happen....

Ok so I've had my HTC Amaze 4G for quite sometime. I'm new to the smart phone era. I've had a smart phone since April of 2011. The amaze makes my 3rd phone. I recently discovered rooting and have become very interested in doing this. I've read some how to's and what not. I'm wondering though if anyone has any suggestions as to which to Rom would best suit this device in a rooted state. Im no tech wizard. I'm a quick learner though and follow instructions well, so I Definately would appreciate the help. Please, and thank you.

there isn't any one "best" rom out there, it all depends on your taste man, do you want sense or not? if so which version? are you a benchmark freak? do you want Ice cream sandwich or Gingerbread?
honestly the first thing I do when i root my phone is get setCPU on there, although I've been using system tuner to great effect.
I'd use faux kernel as well, better battery life and overclockable if ya need the extra horsepower, but I noticed it breaks a few things like wifi tethering for me on a few roms (it seems to be only ones built around a non T-mobile base)?
after that its up to you, good luck!
Lol but seriously... Energy ROM is the best
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
I too use NRGZ Energy ROM. Everytime I flash a different ROM I always tend to revert back to Energy.
If the Sense 3.6 ICS ROM by Adjust was fully working i'd rock that. I tested it and that ROM flys! Too bad tho with all the drama that seems to revolve around him.
Ok ok. I've been hearing that the big issue with rooting the amaze is the s-off situation. I read a thread where someone mentioned successfully achieving this feat on an amaze with running an unlocked bootloader. As mentioned before...I'm super new to these terms and this process, so I've been having difficulty locating these instructions. I've been told to have someone do it for me, but I really want to learn these rooting skills for myself. I live that you guys have come up with ways to make our phones just that...OUR phones. Sorry for the noob questions...but I truly appreciate all of your help.
Read the Stickies on how to root. It's actually really easy to root this phone.
1. Unlock your bootloader.
2. Flash a recovery
3. Flash superuser for rooted stock or flash a custom Rom.
Of course there are preliminaries that must be done first. Like having ADB and the HTC USB Drivers.
Chuck Norris CAN touch MC Hammer!
s-off allows the user to flash a different boot.img (custom kernel) as well as different carriers' RUUs, you can still flash a boot.img without s-off but you'd need to use a program like the Easy Kernel Flasher. Regular ROM flashing isn't affected by s-off other than that
and am I the only one who doesn't like NRGZs Rom? I flip between One Good ROM and Stock

Turn off your phone, turn it back on holding down the volume down button to boot into bootloader. It will then ask if u want to install update, select yes. U will now have a custom recovery.

[Q] New to rooting.

So, I'm new to rooting, and, as such, after looking around the forums, I haven't found a similar thread (for the EVO 3D) about what ROM I should get. I've been looking through the CDMA forum at different ROMS, but I'm not sure which one to use. I won't be downgrading to 1.4 HBOOT, since I don't have a linux PC or the balls to do it, so I will be using the HTC Unlocker. All I want is to have the ability to use the Hotspot/tethering for free, because I'm not about to pay Sprint an extra 30 dollars/mo on top of my 65 dollar/mo plan right now.
So, if anyone has any help, I'd really appreciate it, because I have no idea what I'm doing.

My friend is saying there's more ways to root your phone other than the HTC Unlocker or the downgrade to 1.4 hboot. First off cause I don't have a linux PC, and my friend's friend said he used a program to root it on windows.
EDIT: After doing some research, I found this: http://htcevohacks.com/htc-evo-3d-hacks/how-to-downgrade-hboot-1-50-to-1-40-on-htc-evo-3d-new/ and this: http://htcevohacks.com/htc-evo-3d-hacks/how-to-root-htc-evo-3d/
I was wondering if these are reliable and they both work, mostly the Revolutionary app. Because I've heard that it's not all that amazing, but they must have updated it since I heard that.

Again, the HTCDev method will give you root, but not s-off. If you want s-off, you have to downgrade your hboot. And it doesn't take a while, unless you consider a few minutes to be a while.

Yeah, but the thing is, I've been comparing HTC Unlock with downgrade and root, the only difference, besides true s-off, is you aren't able to have you own splash screen with HTC Unlock (Big whoop.) So, instead of taking the time (albeit a few minutes) To downgrade my phone and to root it that way. I think I'll wait for ICS to come out, then for the HTC Unlock to update for it, since I rather like the way ICS will look, also as I've said before, all I really want is the ability to use the Sprint Hotspot without paying an extra 30 bucks. That and with the HTC unlock, I can still put on a custom ROM, if I so desire, once they've been updated for ICS.
Ohhhh... Where should I start.... Well for one s-off means a lot, not just splash screens... Which I love my custom splash screen btw.... Makes my phone extremely unique...
If I was in your shoes.. I would downgrade the hboot... Root it.. and install the tethering app... And be done with it... Regardless of when the ota comes out for ics.. that means very very little...
Once the ota does come out, ROM devs will be all over it, and custom ics roms will be popping up all over the place...
"All I really want is tether...." No its not.... Trust me once you dive into the rooted EVO 3d and you realize how the phone is suppose to run, not how it runs stock you will be glad you went through the trouble with the downgrade...
Do what you do, as long as your happy and enjoying your 3vo that's what's matters...

Well, my biggest problem with trying to downgrade is I'm having trouble finding a way to downgrade with just windows, since I don't have Linux. Unless I just didn't read it right, I think someone said that the link I posted about downgrading with windows is outdated?
EDIT: Why would I install a tethering app when, supposedly, I can use the Sprint Hotspot, which is supposed to be better than the tethering app? Also, I have quite a few apps on my phone and I'm not sure I'll be able to use them all still if I root my phone.

Well, for me, there's several issues with that. 1) I'm using a laptop that isn't mine for the time being, and i don't want to go and make a new partition. 2) If I were to wait till the parts for my new desktop to come in, I'd have to wait till the end of March anyways for a new processor to come out. 3) I've never even messed with Linux.

I know. I did read that the kitchen had an issue or used to have an issue with deodexing stock ICS roms. There was a fix or something that needed to be changed/edited that allowed it to work, something about extracting system.img differnetly I thought. Sigh.

I am very looking forward to downloading this ROM since I did not really
want to re-lock my bootloader.
But i just wanted to ask, is there anyway I could install your upcoming rom
without getting the S-OFF? is it a requirement?
i skimmed thru some of the s-off instructions and became speechless
after seeing sticking the wire on the back of the unit.....too much for me i guess lol
i miss the old days when my mytouch 4g was so easy to s-off.

Well you have to do one of those two you just mentioned
S OFF or Relock bootloader and apply the update that way
i would recommend do the hboot method if you are scared of S OFF,

thanks for the prompt response.
so what you are saying is: either way, I would have to update the ph85img with hboot
to install your rom?
would it be impossible to flash a rom from GB to ICS without going thru the hboot process?

yes if you have S OFF, no otherwise
You have to install the new hboot to install the NFC, people were having problems with it failing or something along those lines.

S-off is required because there is a new radio , and s-off is needed for that, don't worry about the wire thing, just be careful and follow the instructions and you should be fine, so far I've seen only one person that has bricked the phone

If no s=off, can they still unlock bootloader with ics ROM? I heard that was causing issues. And people were unable to get s=off since drunkenbear was designed for GB. I could always be wrong

Too funny! Because that's what literally was happening..but it actually was pretty easy if you read what NOT to do...lol watch the video someone posted. And remember you don't wait 17 secs you wait 1.75 secs. So ALMOST 2 seconds to tap the ground side again after the first tap.
Wait....I sent this with Tapatalk?

Favorite part about s-off?

Just say what your single favorite thing about us getting s-off is. Mine is definitely being able to restore androids without having to flash that stupid ph98img.

I'm gonna have to go with being able to change splash screens. As a new member, I can't post it, but I had one on my tbolt that I grew rather accustomed to. Love having it back.

we could install kernels before,as long as we used a PC and launched recovery from fastboot. i guess its cool we can do it from a permanent installed recovery now without a PC,but its not that big a deal to me. ive always hooked my phone to the puter when i wanted to flash a new rom.
my favorite thing is being able to flash whole leaks without fear of beeing stuck there, and the ability to bounce around between firmwares.
my second favorite thing is that my bootloader stays unlocked. i no longer have to relock to run ruus, and afterward i dont need to re-unlock or keep installing patched hboots to use a few fastboot commands. this is different than my other s-off htcdev phones where the unlocked hboot would be overwritten with a locked one during the ruu flash
*disclaimer: i have no factory warranty and dont care about my lock status being unlocked,or relocked. do not htcdev unlock after s off if you care about staying locked
thirdly,custom spalsh screens are fun
Flashing nandroid backups with a minimum of steps and not worrying about kernels when I do.
(I haven't s-offed my Rezound yet)

I love being able to make mistakes and then go back and fix them with an RUU. If I want to go back to GB, I can do that. I also like being able to restore nandroids at any time.
Flashing and restoring roms with ease.
My favorite part is I conquered the wire trick

I like s-off for a few reasons. 1. With S-Off i know that future hacks and tricks will probably be easier for me to use. 2. I get a bit of satisfaction when i see s-off in my hboot
Has to be the ability to flash without the need to unlock or relock. Takes away tedious steps and makes the overall process quicker and more simple. Plus, there isn't a need to stress about down/upgrading firmware.

My favorite reason for getting s-off is simply because it could be done. My second favorite is because the wire trick amazed my kids.
