I bet more EVO 3d users don't have access to WiMAX, than those who do... So the 3d is just as worthless.
If you think LTE is the only selling point then I suggest reading more, posting less.

It is a fact that Sprint doesn't have a LTE network. If you read the terms, it flat out says... LTE is not in ANY market. They're trying to jump ship too fast. Fix the network they have and they'll make their customers happy. It's sad that I have to tether my IPhone to my Sprint phone JUST to watch a movie. goes from 700kbs to 3M.
But on the main point of this thread. YAY! Customs has done something right! they have allowed HTC to continue business!

Basically the same phone because it has the same Bluetooth right? Valid point. So valid.
Why do you even have anything against it? It's not like it has done anything to you. I'm not getting one because I can't afford it. But I don't hate it, why would I?

This shows how truly ignorant one user on XDA can be. There are live Sprint LTE towers in at least one market (Athens, GA). Also, Qualcomm Krait 28nm S4 SoC, Adreno 225 graphics, and a 2000maH battery are hardly "worthless". Go troll elsewhere, troll.

Try being a little more civil to each other. Just because one person thinks the phone is worthless (and btw I do as well) it's no reason to start a war.
The LTE is worthless if you look at it in a certain way, just like the 3d is worthless to many. Lack of LTE and the lack of NOTICEABLE differences between it and the 3d, very worthless.
Fact: better proc, better battery, better camera(? non 3d better, w/e), better screen res (really, we need that over the 3d? don't think so) lighter and smaller(by how much, not much!)
Also fact: There are not more 3d users with WiMax than without
Also fact:

I just watched the Mobile Tech Review from Lisa and I thought you she did a really nice job. Sorry I don't have the link. She did a write up as well but I haven't read through that. One of the things she said is that call quality was one of the best she's tried on Sprint. I know a lot of people were concerned with that. She also said the battery wasn't great but you could probably make it through the day on 3G and maybe get a half day with 4G turned on. Check out the video and let me know what you guys think.
From the article
No doubt, the HTC EVO 3D is one of the most anticipated Android smartphones for 2011. The HTC EVO 4G is a hard act to follow, and the EVO 3D mostly lives up to the challenge. I'm sure you've already read some reviews that hate on the 3D feature, and I can tell you I'm not in love with it either. But if you at worst choose to ignore 3D, then the EVO 3D is one heck of a phone.
It has a dual core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon CPU just like the lovely HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile, a gig of RAM, WiMAX 4G and a decent 4.3", 800 x 480 pixel capacitive touch screen. Build quality is solid and we love the rubbery back. The HTC EVO 3D is in many ways the HTC Sensation for Sprint with 3D thrown into the mix.
Call quality is tops and reception on 3G EV-DO Rev. A is above average, while 4G reception is average (good outdoors, terrible indoors). We're not fans of WiMAX 4G and find LTE much faster and 4G HSPA+ much easier on battery life, but if you're a Sprint customer, it's all you've got. And in some metro areas, WiMAX speeds are actually decent. Battery life? EVO 4G owners, you know the drill-- get a spare battery pronto.
Here's our HTC EVO 3D video review. As per usual, the full review will follow in a few more days after we've had time to sufficiently torture-test the phone.

Good review. The dead mosquito on her index finger drove me nuts! lol
First off, I love my E3D! Is it just me or is anyone else concerned that Sprint is not marketing this phone very good at all. I've seen the lame ping pong commercial and a NASCAR commercial for a contest. Is this truly the flagship phone for Sprint? I am still seeing EVO 4G commercials! Why are they not pumping this thing up? C'mon Sprint...convince me I have the best device on the Now Network! I know I do, but I want to hear it from you!!
Its because they are prepping for the Motorola and Samsung phones coming out. I think they are having commitment issues with the EVO. I love it tho

There is the possibility that the apple vs htc case is involved somehow. I'm not sure though.

I know..they should be pumping out commercials with specs..How bout mentioning the qhd display or the blazing fast 1.2ghz dual cores..first and best for sprint..they have a ****ty advertising dept thats for sure!!
Marketing
No on all of the above. There is no flagship phone coming out on any network including the Iphone 5 (what happened to the A5) anytime soon. The battle is not on selling the hardware, It's marketing price plans specifically data. Verizon just capped their plans, ATT did it as well, they are buying T-mobile or trying too. Sprint's stock won't get a boost from the EVO 3d, nor Motorola, Nor Samsung, maybe a little from Apple. But that is it. Not that Sprint is saying the phone sucks, but dual cores will be everywhere soon. (Buy Qualcomm) This is not a flagship like the EVO 4G or the Iphone was for Apple. Without a quad core 4 ghz 128 gb sd card qhd 2156x1080 auto stereoscopic (which the 4g was in its debut as far as innovation) no carrier has anything groundbreaking. They are selling plans, which is their competitive edge. And unless you own stock, and I do, what do you care about the commercials?
3d is said to be releasing on T-mo later this year. So its not really exclusive to Sprint therefore lack of advertising

I suppose you are right, it's more about plans now. As far as stock..I don't own shares but I believe my years of service with Sprint does give me a little room here to voice my concerns. And when I saw more commercials today for the OG 4G it just kinda bothered me, but you're right and I didn't think about that...it's about the plan more than the phone.

Now back to topic.well that's how sprint is, the do no how to advertise sometines, they do pay a lot of money tho , the EVO 3 D commercial were everywhere for the grand opening of harry potter movie ok Thursday night, unlike Verizon sprint doesn't know how to advertise some products, the new commercial about data caps is the best so far, and don't worry the phone is selling good so there will be good future for it
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
Re read my post and apologize to Apollo and others for coming across as an ahole. Marketing is tricky... A dual core 1.2 doesn't mean anything to most. Show them settings/applications/manage/all and scroll it... They will get it then. Qhd? A commercial would be displaying video of a video and losing the 3d and resolution, compressed or stretched to fit = "simulation" in fine print in an add.

Thanks Randy, no worries! You are absolutely correct though...very tricky, especially for this phone! They'll figure something out as I believe this is the Flagship phone...they threw a big party for its release like they did for the EVO 4G. From a shareholders perspective how do you think the whole t-mobile att deal will affect Sprint?
ATT T-Mobile Acquisition
As far as that is concerned, that is a slippery slope. Short-term Sprint could benefit from defectors refusing to sign with ATT. 99% done deal that Sprint will be getting Iphone 5. That is another enticement for T-Mobile customers to be swayed to Sprint. Long term who knows... Sprint could end up being bought by someone. Verizon is the popular name because of the shared CDMA platform. I personally don't think that matters. There were rumors a year ago that Google would might dive in, they certainly have the cash but that isn't their arena. They use other companies hardware and airwaves to grow product. Google voice, any and all isp's... etc. All I know is Dan Hesse (sprint CEO) Is launching a war to prevent it. And he's driven the stock price up 25% this past ytd. Stock hit $6 earlier this summer. He's doing something right.
BTW Sprint is launching a $3 million EVO3D Sprint Nascar giveaway ad campaign.
Carl Edwards was on SportsCenter talking about it.
Also the adds will continue to roll out, My guess is Sprint wanted the phone to circulate for a month or so to work out the bugs... get out the firmware updates before going with the "full court press". They don't need a ****load of new customers with EVO3D problems that don't know how to figure out fixes while the phone is in its infancy. Have a great day
A lot depends on the advertising medium as to which phone they'll promote. The 3D, despite its good hardware, is a nitch phone. Not many business users will be tempted. Cutting edge users will be.
On the other hand, I bet you'll see lot of promotion in business media for the Photon. With an equal emphasis on their "truly unlimited".
......
http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/15/motorola-photon-4g-review/#disqus_thread
So Engadget recently reviewed the Photon 4G and they claim its the greatest smartphone ever on Sprint. The reviewer, Myriam Joire, was the same as the one who reviewed the Evo 3D. As you can see the Photon 4g review is filled with attacks against the Evo 3D.
So far all I have learned is that Myriam Joire is a blithering moron, not sure how this man became a reviewer to begin with. The whole Evo bashing thing doesn't seem to make any sense to me. Engadget claims that the Evo 3D is a huge gimmick and very "disappointing". The review says the photon records smooth 720p video, when you look at the video you can see its filled with massive frame rate drops and the quality looks no better than the Evo's video. The screen has oversaturated colors and is very pixelated but Engadget claims the display is stunning. The Photon feels plasticy and cheap in the hand compared to the Evo.
The Tegra 2 is inferior to the MSM8660 and even Engadget admits the Evo 3D is faster to use. Sense also murders Motorola BS UI. The photon also does not have support for the 800 Mhz ESMR band which the Evo does have, this will be a huge deal by the end of the year when Sprint finally rolls out service on that. The 3D feature the Evo has is just a bonus feature.
So when you consider all of these things, what exactly makes the Evo a gimmicky disappointment and the Photon a wonder of the world?
Just seems to me like most of these cretin reviewers are hell bent on bashing the "useless 3d gimmick" and completely dismiss the rest of the phones features.
F*cking idiots.
The part that is interesting is that the same author, Miriam, did the Evo 3D article and from what I remember about it, the only gripe was that the camera was mounted near flush so it made it possible to scratch the glass covering the lenses. Other than that I thought it was a pretty positive article about the Evo 3D. I was a little shocked to read this article too.
Could you point me to a site that explains the 800 band and what that will mean for us EVO users later on? Sounds interesting.
I also agree that he is an idiot. Every review has the EVO as a much better phone. I told myself I will always buy HTC but with the new buyout I'm not sure now. LOL but that's besides the point. EVO all the way!
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
I call Engadget the Apple Blog. They see Apple as the GOD of all technology and that everything else doesn't compete.
Well it seems that Engadget is just determined to pass the entire phone off as a gimmick and a disappointment. I'm not sure what they were expecting this phone to do, cure cancer? eradicate poverty?
The expectations seem very unrealistic.
I like that the Photon is a global phone though. That's a great feature.

"The Federal Communications Commission has approved the previously announced HTC EVO 3D for the Sprint network with an interesting and unannounced spec. The FCC has confirmed that the EVO 3D supports 800MHz CDMA in the ESMR band. The ESMR 800MHz band is what Sprint uses for its iDEN network. Sprint eventually plans to transition the ESMR band from iDEN to CDMA as part of its expansive network improvement initiative. Once that transition is complete and Sprint ports its voice services to the ESMR spectrum, the HTC EVO 3D will be able to make use of it. Sprint's main CDMA network operates in the 1900MHz PCS band.
"
http://www.phonescoop.com/articles/article.php?a=8261
Basically we will have better coverage and much better signal indoors as the 800Mhz ESMR band will allow for better building penetration. I believe the EVO 3D was the first sprint phone to support this. The Photon does not.

Agreed but for most of us, we rarely leave the country so it isn't something we would use often.
The Photon has the ability to handle many international networks but ironically can't handle the 800 Mhz ESMR band which will impact many more sprint users than the lack of GSM support on the EVO.
The Photon has better connectivity abroad and the Evo has better connectivity back home, I think for most of us the latter matters more.
oh, shifting 2G voice service to lower bands... that's great for voice, but, I rarely have any voice issues--regardless of what the meter-bar says. It's the 3G/4G service I would love transitioned lower, but, I'll take what I can get...
why dont people realize that the 3d is a ****ing add on! if you dont like it, ignore it! The phone kicks major ass even when you forget it does 3d!!! And there is absolutely no UI that is more beautiful than sense! Its better than the gay iphone too!

Yes he does seem to speak on the evo 3d in a negative light..so I.thought maybe i made the wrong choice and i went to the sprint store to take a look at the photon..anyways it is no competition for the e3d..the screen regardless of.its defenders say is pixelated and I was able to see individual pixels without trying to look for them..it seems like the evo got knocked for the 3d d features..I don't understand how a.reviewer can deduct points bc of an added feature..if he didn't like it then just don't add any.I'm happy I went and took a look at the photon bc it made me appreciate my phone more..even the UI was laggy on the photon..don't let these reviews get too you..the only way to make a good decision for you is to actually go and play with the products you are deciding between.
The pillars of Apple's empire...to include mobile technological & UI innovation... is crumbling.
They came along and created a product that jump-started a stagnant market. This I am thankful for. However now, Apple's ridiculous patent lawsuits, gestapo scare tactics and dwindling fan base are signs of a shift in direction...
I played with the Photon at the store. Not a bad phone... but it is no EVO 3D.
As far as Motorola goes... doesn't Google now own the Motorola mobile division?
Why do yall get so uptight over this stuff? Not everyone is going to like the phone, it is what it is.

Well during David Owens interview with Engadget just now he kinda made point to say something that was troubling....
During the interview they were discussing LTE and devices and he made point to say "...well we haven't announced LTE pricing yet....." and then later "...LTE pricing TBD..."
So. Dunno if im reading too much into that as I can't see them charging more for LTE device than they did for WiMax devices as that would just be ludicris and you'd see an outrage they are not in the position to deal with. Hoping He was specifically meaning the Hotspot device plans and such like that and NOT phones.
btw hes the VP of Product Development at Sprint

I'm likely reading too much into what he said and he likely was referring to Hotspot devices as they had just talked about or were about to talk about the new hotspot device I have mentioned in post 1.
Funny thing was during the interview most of the comments on engadgets live twitter chat were all about "ASK him about WINDOWS PHONE!!" lol

I've fell off following Sprint's LTE dance but I'm assuming the Lightsquared deal is green-lighted, pending official word?
Houston & this CES line-up makes me wonder.
Or will they scratch the 900Mhz 3G plans & use it for their LTE 4G as plan B?
it's really disappointing to me that the whole nexus line is samsung. cheap garbage.
of course, i will suck into techoholism that i have and buy the galaxy nexus to give it a shot. 3rd time's the charm? i hope so.
What a weak showing for Sprint at this show...

Seriously?
When did Sprint ever show their best or anything really wowing at CES?
CTIA is Sprint's target, every year. I wished they'd give CES more "oomph" but it's not shocking.

I am aware of that but sometimes surprising the people with an unexpected announcement is a good thing!
Even announcing the Galaxy Nexus without any targeted release date or internal specs is like a half ass announcement. Are they actually going to wait for for LTE to roll out before they release this phone? At that point the phone will become even more irrelevant then it already is now as I am sure the big hitters will be coming at that time like the next EVO or the SGS3.
When is CTIA anyway?

CTIA is May 8-12th im pretty sure.
They said they were releasing these phones all in the first half of '12 if i recall too along with at least 15 total LTE devices for the year which is solid imho. I dont think they are concerned with the "big hitters" coming at that time too b/c the people that want to buy the Nexus will simply buy the Nexus no matter what usually.
Big announcement last night btw b/w Motorola and Intel working together. Finally gets Intel in a big name device manufacturer partnership. Not good for Qualcomm imho, but least this will likely infuse some more competition and make Qualcomm and others step up their game faster.
The intel stuff has me peaking interest right now. the guys are going for 14nm NEXT!!
The first one powered by Intel chips(Atom) will be Lenovo and its the K800. Some solid specs there for a phone.
4.5-inch 720p screen, 6 hours of HD video playback, 45 hours of audio, 8 hours of talk over a 3g network and 14 days on standby, McAfee security, 3D gaming, 1080p video playback, 1080p video capture, *MP camera with 15fps Capability. They showed it taking 10 freaking pics in a single second!!
new video of Sprint's Nexus added to OP.

I have been offered a straight up trade for my Razr for a Amaze 4G. Both phones are running gingerbread, but I am curious if anyone has used the Sense UI and liked it? Also the HSPA+ is very tempting.
To be honest this is my second Android phone, both being Motorola. I would like to try something different, just dont know too much about HTC. Any opinions would be appreciated!
Is the amaze being offered a Tmobile phone? I just switched to Verizon from Tmobile. On my Maxx I've reached 24 mbs down on LTE. In a good signal area with Tmobile The most i ever saw on my mytouch 4g slide was 6mbs down, the average was more like 3.5 down. I had a phone capable 14 mbs down. I wouldnt trade if i were you.

Im in Canada and have the XT910. So only HSPA. The Amaze has HSPA+. Of course LTE would be better, but out cell network is like our army. Slightly outdated.
If you want to do modifications to your phone like kernels and ROMs then HTC is the place to be.

True. But gathering from what I read, there is no ETA for ICS, unlike our current Razr's .
Do we actually have an ETA?

Used both and i can honestly say that razr wins hands down in every aspect except camera.

Canada has an army?
Do their cannons shoot those little maple leaf candies and clever little maple-leaf-shaped 'Thank you for being our enemy today!' notes? Can you aim the candy guns at my house? I love those things.
Seriously, do you travel much? If you travel more than 10% of the time, to cities with LTE service, you should stick with the Razr. Otherhow, you're better off on the HTC side of the force, IMO.

I dont even think we have a canon. We do have a diaper though. A large on at that being the States. Oh and out here we use pellet guns and sling shots. True story. But we have free health care, right?
And no I dont travel all that much. And I have the XT910 which from what I understand doesnt have LTE anyways. Regardless, I think I might get a Nexus. Slightly better processor, but tons of support from the Devs.

I traded the Nexus for the Razr when I failed to get ANY bars (voice OR data) unless I was within sight of a cell tower. Verizon didn't even charge me for the exchange because they were getting so many radio problem reports/trades. This was at the beginning of March.
The Nexus is The Best if you want mods, but only the original iPhone4 gets worse reception.
I considered cracking it open and putting a custom antenna in it, I wanted it to work that bad.
Cheers from Diaperlandistan!
