I need a new one so I can fix my phone. Getting a new microphone/usb flex board is useless if I can't connect the internal antennae to the mainboard..
Are you talking about the tiny gray wire on the right of the photo?
That looks exactly like a laptop wifi antenna wire, but might just be
a coaxial cable, at least from the part description.
I have the service manual for the Note, and under the part description, that
wire is called: (QCB01) CBF COAXIAL CABLE-GT-I9103

As for the wire itself, I don't know where you would get one, other than
snagging one from a junked out laptop. You can't splice it back together,
since the impedance of the cable would be compromised, if spliced back
together like a regular wire. Coax cable carries the signal, and if it isn't
resonate & impedance matched, the "transmitter" won't work. At the
frequencies involved, being a little off, will reduce the signal to the point
of being useless.
I believe it is an i-pex connector on that coax wire. You should be able to find something if you look at some of the wireless ISP websites. The Mini-pci cards I used to use for my wireless ISP had those connectors.
Something like this should work, but you need to make sure the specs match to the cable in the phone. No idea how you would figure that out.

I barely had enough to buy the phone, and I figured anything wrong with it that would go wrong would happen within 30 days, and things that mostly happen on accident like screens cracking or water damage isn't even covered.
And, how did I trash it when it still works fine aside from USB not working and I need a new antennae connector? Given two parts, I could easily fix it within 5 minutes...

Samsung support has a 1 year parts warranty if your USB was installed improperly(not soldered, for instance).

As for your parts, don't bother with sammy, they don't sell parts unless you're buying at retailer quantities. check ebay and other online sellers to find the parts. I've managed to find a lot of parts on Ifixit (yes they do other devices besides apple devices). GL on your hunt for the parts. You may need to just buy an entirely new board btw.

I'm kind of used to having to do everything in life my self. I don't have the luxury of people doing things for me.

I'm pretty sure it happened when I put the Note in the cupholder of the truck and it got knocked loose; the cable probably bent the USB inside.
I know I need a new flex board, that's no problem, but I need to find this wire

As I'm not 100% of all the dimensions and variable of the cable, have you
A) tested the continuity of the cable with a multi-meter to verify it is dead? (I can't tell from your picture if the cable shows any physical damage)
B) examined the length and connections to see if you could use a similar connector, say like one for a wifi card in a laptop?
C) checked to see if the original module comes with one when your order it from like ebay?
Also I don't know how your car is setup, but when I put in a custom stereo to my old corolla I was able to add a cubby under the deck and stored my phone there. of course I went from a double DIN to a single DIN so that might not be your case. Hope some of this helps.

Great advice, props on effort, +1 man.
A: the crimp connector on one side failed
B: Didn't think of that, and tried repairing cable, but I can measure the length from mainboard to microphone/usb flex board connectors
C: I didn't see it on the two sites I saw the flex board come from, but I'll look further
Also, in my Buick, I used to do that with my Atrix, but the cubby hole now, is too small for that with the bigger phone, also, that happened in the Ram 1500 I drove my mom somewhere in.
But seriously, I do appreciate you spending that much effort in helping me.
EDIT: forgot to mention that I ripped apart an old laptop and the connectors won't fit from a WIFI PCI-E X1 connector.

Well even if the cable is too long (which for any given laptop it probably will be) it could be something for you to test at the very least. the connectors do look like those I saw in my laptop (HP brand if you're curious) though they might be the wrong size. Another thought is to look for parts for the S2. Yes I know the parts probably won't match up but you may be able to find a cable with the correct connectors and salvage those. MOST manufacturers reused certain things, cheaper that way.
As for your beast of the phone, I've been looking into getting the Trident system with AMS because I kinda like the idea of getting the window mount and it clipping right into the case. those are mi thoughts.

Instead of trolling, it would be more helpful if I had a link to the cable I needed.. in fact, I can turn my phone on right now, and use WiFi, and everything else but the micro USB and GSM data. Two parts would fix this.

I think he meant more that a truck +box + note = damage, not really insulting your intelligence. I know there's a lot of people on your case bro, the other thread didn't really help at all, but just take what people say with a grain of salt, take a deep breath and move on. It's for the Samsung Epic 4G, which has different frequencies on sprint, and it's not LTE I believe.
Would that make the cable automatically not work since the phone uses different frequencies? AKA would I need the cable from an AT&T specific LTE phone to work?

Discovered a hair line crack today on my White AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note SGH-I717. Took it to a corporate store and the manager told me there isn't anything he can do about it, because it isn't a known, reported issue. Well I am here to be the first. Hopefully this doesn't become a common issue and there is some sort of recourse. Meanwhile I will be posting to let others be aware of this possible defect.

If you are within 3O days the store should swap it. After 30 days you need to call warranty...800-801-1101 i think

The evo had an issue like this...where after a few weeks of use it would crack near the power button.

Yup. My white 3GS. Some where in India now though. Good riddance. But I do recall something happening with the Nexus One where it would crack near the power button sometimes.
That sucks. But i do recall white iphone 3-3gs having this issue. I hope this doesnt happen to my note.

A crack, of any kind, is considered to be physical damage, and is therefore not a warranty exchangeable issue. Can only be replaced via insurance claim. If by some miracle, you get a store rep to replace it, then kudos to you!

Unless it's a seam split caused by faulty manufactures' materials.. Samsung saw the picture and told me to take it back to place of purchase for a replacement. ** We already know how far that's gonna get me..

The problem with the "Gray Scale" wasn't discovered to be a problem until recently, which this phone has. Also it has reset TWLauncher 4 times, when enabling Wifi via the notification bar, I just chalked it up as crappy programming..

Sometimes these things show up later, that is why they are called "manufactures' defects" and have warranty to cover replacements or repairs.

I remember the white DS Lite got cracks in the hinge and like people said before the white 3GS and maybe the 3G had some problems with cracks and yellowing. The Note doesn't have a problem since more people would have reported it by now, you probably just got a bit of bad luck.

It's possible. If while flexing the plastic was the weakest part, then sure, it could crack first.
One big thing I have a hard time reading about in this thread, is the focus on just the white models. Ever think that you never saw any micro cracking on a black device be cause the crack itself was black? If it didn't stand out like it would on a white device, you wouldn't even know to look for it.

This is true, although what happens eventually with these cracks is air, moisture, dust, sand, debris gets into the split and eventually into the screen which would be visible regardless of the color of the phone's casing. I guess black material is more flexible.
Another bigger problem is that split may eventually become bigger and worse yet is get caught on something and snap off. I have seen the issue with cracks near the power and volume rockers, from the normal pressure of the user pressing the area which is open and more delicate after long term use... Eventually splitting at two ends and part of the bezel falling off. ** They claim this is physical damage, which in part is true, but only because the quality of the materials was questionable in the first place.
Again, personally I'm not too bothered. But the Samsung Warranty rep mentioned exactly that (above) and if that were to eventually happen, it would not be covered under the warranty and then be considered physical damage.

It's like saying Toyota doesn't have to compensate a user for having faulty breaking system or electrical problems with acceleration on their cars. Because the user crashed and totaled the car, dismissing the user, claiming physical damage.. ofc some people will just take that, others won't and if enough don't accept that as the answer, then the manufacturer will have to address the problem, but only until then.. If they can get away with it..
Honestly I hope this is an isolated problem, only affecting a very few owners. And I just happen to get one of the affected units. Because truthfully I absolutely love the phone and if I were to get a replacement, I would want another white one with the hopes of it not happening again, at least to me

** RESOLVED (sort of, but I couldn't close) details within...
I have to write this to let people know there is a solution and to give credit where credit is due.
So after going to DSC, they couldn't help me because they don't have the Note to exchange. They recommended I go back to the store.
I went to a store about a block away, explained. They told me I would have to go back to the original store and speak directly to the manager, not to waste time with rep. Explain the situation and have her do an exception and do the replacement.
Instead, I went to one last AT&T store, one that happens to be in a more posh neighborhood. Went directly to a manager (Rick, Coral Cables FL Store). Explained everything, told him what DSC, the other store, AT&T warranty support and Samsung Warranty Support all told me to do. He looked at the phone, looked at a display phone. Went to a rep (Yavon, Coral Gables FL Store) and told him to get me a new replacement.
Trouble started for me, when they tried to look up the account, purchase, via the IMEI on their system. It didn't show up. Happen to be another Manager in a suit and tie was there and helped the rep. Issue here is that it was pre-ordered via online Feb. 15th for the Feb. 17th delivery. Fine they found that.
Here's the next problem, the phone was no longer registered on their system because the original phone number was ported out to another carrier. So they had no active account to complete the swap/replacement..
Brand new replacement box was right in front of me within my grasp and almost in my hands. Alas I could not close the deal because of the technicality. But it goes to prove that it can be done, calmly.. Just have to find the right person. Someone mentioned once, you need to find the person that is there to help you get the issue resolved and doesn't take the exchange/replacement personally.
Again, I posted this because I know there are people that have this issue, and I know there will be others that will eventually suffer through this. For you and them to know that there is/are several solutions to a legitimate problem.
When I left the store, I told the manager and rep that I was thankful for them having taken the time to actually try to resolve my problem and really tried hard to look into the issue and find a solution. I understand I personally hit a stump as far as how much AT&T can do for "me". I let them know that in other stores they were not so willing and just brushed me off instantly dismissing me. And further putting blame on me having caused the damage, by pure speculation and assumption on their part that it must have been that I dropped it or somehow caused it by some sort of physical damage. They apologized.
My next step is Samsung Warranty Repair.

Size matters
Yup same hairline crack on left side in line with bottom of volume rocker. I use a Samsung flip case and do not pocket it

I keep on hearing many reviewers calling the USB cover annoying and inconvenient. First of all its brilliant, because it's better have one than to not because long term it brings benefits. It also means that the design doesn't cut any corners interms of how a mobile phone should be. I realised this when I noticed that all good phones before iPhone all had these flaps even samsung. But when everything went touchscreen they stopped the flaps, if iPhone or samsung make flaps on thier phones its a brilliant idea, nobody will complain like they didn't when it was a standard to have a flap but when HTC does it or Sony because It's different everyone bashes the idea.
I can remember when all TVs where made out of metal and remotes, now everything is plastic meaning hardware no longer has a quality feel to it. The only tv manufacturers that still use metal are B&O. I know that having a flap is flimsy but compromises have to be made for quality like a Rolex or something prestigious they will look nice but will always be heavy. All I'm trying to say is theirs no need to hate something that was saw as a standard and I'm more than happy to have it because other flagship phones don't which gives it a design advantage, it looks neater and it means more effort has been placed in this handset.

In my opinion the biggest benefit of the USB cover is waterproofing. Wireless charging and Airdroid cover me for the rest of what the USB cord would be used for.
From the Engadget review, they stated that the USB cover was added to help make the phone splash resistant like the Butterfly, if that's the case then this is awesome. The only issues are that it's going to be harder and more expensive for car docks.

Motorola's Atrix HD and new Razr line are all splash resistant but they dont have covers
the reason everyone hates on the cover is because it's an extra step needed when connecting a USB, but at the same time because of the wireless charging, you're going to be using the USB port a lot less, thus it's better to have it covered so it wont collect a bunch of dust inside from having it exposed, and at the same time it's not going to be an inconvenience too often to take the cover off when you do need it.
it is a slight pain to have to remove, which is partly why i picked up a charging pad for the office and will soon be picking one up for home. i do like the idea that it is covered though since i do carry my phone in my pocket and its like a lint factory in there.

Nice to hear that you are all adopting the idea of wireless charging, I like the idea but I have a feeling apple will make one and it will charge quicker and look better. I could only imagine the ads for the iPhone 5S bragging about wireless charging as if they invented it and they probably try to patent it.

Well apple clearly mentioned they dont like the idea of wireless charging coz you still need to plug a wire in the wireless charger. That said they also didnt like the idea of 7 inch tablet.
I personally like the idea of wireless charging especially with starbucks already providing wireless charging on there tables.

Super Awesome USB mod.
I tied a piece of floss to the cover and then tied the floss to a micro usb reader... It is really easy to open now. I always have my micro SD card with me, just waiting for my OTG cable and my setup is complete.

There are 256 shades of black and white.
It's actually gotten easier for me to open and close. It took some effort for a few days but now I can do it without really struggling. I find it's much easier to put in the non-attached end first.
The only issue I have with it is desk docks or stands won't be as easy to use with the flap in the way. Granted wireless charging would help, but I'm still not particularly sold on it yet.
After trying to live with it for a few days, I'm going to cut my cover off.
Water doesnt scare me!
I think it's something people will get used to after a few times it will feel normal to me it looks more premium but using it probably is fiddly.

It cleans the lines up to not see the ugly port.
I don't mind removing it, yes its a tiny bit of a pain, but I think the positives outweigh the negative

Holy crap some of you people are so lazy. I could see maybe the flap being a bit annoying, even if you get used to it and it's really not that bad afterwards, but some of you think even having to connect a cable is some huge effort? It's not even a consideration for me that connecting a cable is any real effort at all, and I can't really understand how it could be considered that.

How did you relate annoying with lazy?
It is a typical annoying HTC move. People wonder why HTC is losing money every year, it is because of crap like this. Sure, it may not seem like big deal but all the little details add up. There are a ton of problems they seem to ignore and now they just added another one.
Flush buttons.
Power button on top of tall or huge phones
USB port on the side of the One X
Dumbest multitasking set up ever
Horrible carousel when scrolling through wallpapers and skins.
USB port flap.
Etc.
The reason the flap is annoying is because that flap will wear out faster that the rest of your phone unless you strictly use wireless charging. Every other high end phone you can keep it mint way easier without a flap you have to open every night or even more with the crap battery.
Here is a pic of the last phone I owned with a cover like that. Over two years of service and beat to hell and back. I'm not to worried about durability. Of it does wear out it looks like it can be pulled out with pliers. Kinda like those plastic things they put in shirts with the price tags on it.

same here, I have opened and replaced screens on iphone 4 and 4s. taken apart and brought back to life an o2 atom, opened a one x to replace the screen and did it.
I have had my DNAs apart. But mostly only opened up phones with removable batterys. Honestly the hardest part is getting the shielding off this phone without mangling it.

It's going to be a learning process I'm not looking for a DNA take apart expert, mostly I need someone interested in participating that's patient, and doesn't get halfway through a tear down then drive to the nearest lake and dump the parts in the water because of frustration.
The kind of person that might take apart the family's microwave to see what's inside (or buy an ATM machine to see how they work lol). Someone who enjoys mechanical stuff and can stay level headed even if they hit a bump in the road, take a breather then out think that stripped screw by making it a flathead with a dremel tool so you can unscrew it and replace it.

These are just a few of the things I mess around with. In all cases above, the things still worked when I was done "tweaking" them. Thats not always the case lol. Sometimes my curiosity has broken stuff, but not that often.
However, I don't only take apart electronics. When I bought my house, I didn't like my bathroom one saturday, So I removed it, the walls, the floor, the ceiling.. and built a bigger one with a skylight, jet tub, tile floor, walk in shower.. I found out later that I guess your supposed to have a permit to do stuff like that? lol.. oh well. Sold the house and nobody asked questions.. shhh!!
I have also rebuilt the engine in my 2004 Sport Trac. It sucked a valve into the #1 cylinder and shattered the piston. Pulled it, disassembled the entire motor, replaced the piston, crank, connecting rod, timing gears/chain, intake manifold.. then put it all back together in about 4 days. Alone in my dads garage (I don't have a garage.. sigh) last December. Works like a champ and only cost me 300 bucks to do!
I'm a tinkerer turned professional.. a professional tinkerer? lol. To me, all things work the same.. if you can take apart a microwave, you can disassemble yard sprinkler system, or rebuild a transmission. Everything comes apart, and everything can be put back together.. doesn't matter what it is.

Now you guys have my attention. When I was 14 I got a 1968 Chevy pickup that was supposed to be a rat rod style cheap daily driver hotrod.
Within 3 months it had turned into a frame off restoration project/show truck/daily driver/built for the hot rod power tour as well.
While working on that Dad and I got into drag racing and built a 91 Camaro drag car.
Fuel injection is what first got me into technology. I was into mechanical things but computers kind of scared me because of the unknown. And this was way before smart phones and tablets and such so tech wasn't part of popular trends.
I decided I couldnt judge computers based on not knowing them, so I decided to take one apart. I was pleasantly surprised to learn it was just like building a racing engine or designing custom suspensions. And here I am

I'm in the process of replacing the screen with digitizer. Well this was the plan and now I have taken off the motherboard, battery, charging and the camera portion according to the video from etrader.
It seems I have to get the LCD and digitzer away from the actual frame, but that is nowhere mentioned or shown and I don't really know where to start (prying or not ... )
Attached 2 pics... I really need help, my wife is driving my crazy complain about my old trust Droid X ... even so it was her in the first place breaking the DNA.

I have a very specific question with regards to replacing the charging port on the i777. I have searched threads discussing charging port replacement, but was unable to find anything about this specific issue. I am currently going through my first repair on my i777 that needs a new charging port. I bought the replacement on ebay, but something stood out once I compared it to the original charging port I took out. On the original there is a small rubber piece hanging down (around where the screw holes are). On the replacement piece it's just a metal piece hanging down in the same place. Do I need to have that rubber piece on the replacement charging port? Would it even affect the functionality of the phone? Is there a way to take the rubber piece off the original and transfer it to the replacement, or should I just buy one with the rubber piece on? If someone has asked this question already forgive me, but I did not see it in the thread I skimmed through.

That gray part is for waterproofing the microphone I believe. It just slides off of the old part and onto the new one, just be careful. Also if you have no signal, by now you may have already found the following thread. I had to do this a couple of weeks ago to get a signal: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1950114&page=5 I'll try harder to match up the part numbers next time!

i'll report back once i have them
i already took the phone apart just to peek around inside, the part looks just like what's already there. the picture shows some teal/aqua colored tabs towards the bottom, im assuming these are peel off for an adhesive (there did seem to be an adhesive holding the part in place).
based on that link mentioned i would say that cutting is a little extreme, it looks like they cut the board in half, which is definitely NOT how it comes stock.
again i'll report back once i've got the chips. and for under $8 with free shipping i cant really complain even if they dont work out.
The only thing you're actually cutting (electronically) is the ground plane of the board shared by the antenna/radio and the charge port. In short, there's a super low risk of messing anything up, unless you use a sawzall to complete the job.
I assume that it was more cost effective for Samsung to put those items on the same board, but it's a punk move to attach a known replacement part to an antenna that varies by region. Either way, I'm glad to know that the hack is an option but I'd be happier to know that the hack isn't necessary.

Just wanted to report success. The part from new egg worked and was really easy to swap.
I don't have the right size sim card anymore since switching my primary carry, so I can't test reception, but otherwise everything is working (charging, wifi, Bluetooth, etc)
P.s. I did not modify the item I received (no cutting) and it is a 2.3 where the original I removed was a 2.2. I've saved the 2.2 just in case something comes up.

I'll see if I can find a friend with a full size Sim over the next few days and test the reliability. But honestly I'd have to it may be better for people to find a rev 2.2
But for anyone who no longer uses the phone for cell service, the new egg part works great for a cheap and easy charge port replacement.

Step 1: watch any LG G5 teardown video and seperate the glass screen with mobo out of the metal casing.
step 2: on the right side of mobo under the black circle fabric (below the fabric DO NOT REMOVE FABRIC JUST LOOK UNDER IN) YOU WILL SEE 3 little button nubs.
each nub has a little bent peice of metal facing upwards. Each one needs to be pushed up a little more. the problem was they are not hitting the ribbon connection to give them power on the back casing.

Confirmed as working for me too. I've done this mod on 3 phones already, all are a success. LG is horrible... Releasing phones with such blatant defects.
It will stop working after few days, cuz those are volume pins, has nothing to do with gps
If thats the real fix and the battery touches it, I'm almost certain that replacing batteries is causing this. It explains why many are reporting the issue coming back overtime when warranty replacing. My replacement is already getting worse GPS signal
Actually, makes sense these buttons are related to the volume buttons... There are multiple leads on the board connecting to the back of the case directly though, making me think that LG chose to use the "metal backing" as a GPS antenna. I've straightened multiple leads on the board which come in direct contact with the case itself and other elements just in case, but I have a feeling this will be an issue that plagues us G5 users until a hardware revision is done by LG...
Time to shop for another phone. What a bad investment this was...

Horrible how us early adopters get rimmed...
To be honest, I think those three leads do nothing but placebo after looking at the board... But notice all the leads across the board which connect to the case itself. I think those would be a better spot for GPS and phone antennas... Wish someone had a technical diagram for us.
As for the HTC 10, I've heard good things... Just not sure I'll be able to sell this phone to buy one.
Signal still holding strong today... Getting massive signal with no drops.
Is this problem still present in current versions? Or was it fixed? I can't believe LG still sells this phone with GPS not working? I get a G5 the next days, how can I check if mine has this issue too?

your answer is total garbage. ever seen a car that scraped on the ground because the shock absorbers failed due to temperature and high pressure just by existing?
unless you bend them over and over the method will most likely last for many years. you dont have a lot of forces acting on it.
if you make a fixed connection like soldering, the small dynamic forces would eventually weaken the material and it would break after some time. think before insulting somebody's idea
i don't think those are GPS antenna contacts.. as i used to observe that gps antennas usually have 1 or 2 contacts.. never 3! but they could do..
don't know if you read my topic about same issue and another "fix"..
at the moment we have 2 confirmed informations:
1) if you isolate detachable module pin connector you'll get no gps at all
2) gps will work good until you'll detach and reattach battery couple times.
this could explain why LG released this terminal which definitively passes any factory test! ...holy real day-use tests!

we have 3 different gps systems on our phone so 3 makes sense. BDS (beidou) is only to be found on the newest hardware

thanks, i've also tried this fix and seems working.. but indeed volume rockers are nearby and no other connectors were found.. mistery grows up..
this fix save me, thanks for it, now the gps works fine

unless you bend them over and over the method will most likely last for many years. you dont have a lot of forces acting on it.
if you make a fixed connection like soldering, the small dynamic forces would eventually weaken the material and it would break after some time. think before insulting somebody's idea

1. look at the link. lots of people already claimed the """mod""" lasted about 2-5 days, then the problem came back.
2. what are you talking about!? Those contacts between the board and the backplate are based up on pressure. The mod just says "try to bend them upwards a bit". THIS MEANS IT WILL TOTALLY GO IN ITS BASE POSITION AGAIN REALLY SOON. It can't work.
3. back to, if you can read. Where did I say soldering it? Right, no where. I said put some layers of conducting anything on the backplates contacts to grow its height.
Not enough forces acting on them? Seriously? So to your logic, this means this problem wouldn't occur in the first place. Pressing with your fingers on the cover at that very place mostly is enough to push them back every time a little bit., also because they're at the very edge of the cover.
