[Q] flashed new rom, still asks for unlock code. - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

hey guys,
i flashed the imaginary rom for galaxy ace using cw recovery. when device turns on it still asks for network unlock code, the phone was locked to 3 uk, i had imagined flashing new rom woul automatically unlock it. is this not the case??

Definitely not the case. Flashing rom wont network unlock the phone.

any work arounds?? thanks for speedy response guys.

U need to pay for it. Send it to any phone repair shop and they could do it safely. Many have said that buying unlock codes online wont work for ace, and also the online diy tutorial mostly wont work too. Even if it does works, its too dangerous. One simple mistake and u got an expensive paperweight in your hand.

+1 to that..let those people do it for you so even if anything goes wrong..you have someone to fault..

that sucks, i thought rooting the phone meant total control over it. is this only for samsung phones?? i ask because i rooted a few locked htc phones in the past and they were unlocked after rooting and flashing. thanks this is a real eye opener.

No all phones don't get unlocked by rooting. Rooting means you have access to the system files, which means you can then technically unlock but it is a lot safer to go to the shop.

Interesting to hear about the htc.
But definitely not just samsung, sony too. Rooting doesnt give network unlock. Hell u need to network unlock first before u can unlock bootloader on sony devices

I rooted my mom's EVO 3D..it also got network unlocked in the process

found this post with instructions and successfully unlocked phone.

cheers mod on XDA

whenever you do a factory reset it re-locks the phone. so keep your unlock code handy

there is a guide on this site somewhere that I used to unlock my ace. I wish I bookmarked it but I didnt, however it wasnt very hard to do, just careful care needed in following the guide step for step. Need to have right tools on pc to follow guide as it uses adb I think.
Also I needed a sim for another network to get the unlock code prompt up so I could actually unlock it, that was easy as I have different network sims here anyway.
ok found it here.

Wonder why htc phones unlock when rooting. Did you unlock the bootloader as well?

to get the unlock prompt to show up without different simcard, just use this code

[Q] How many of you have rooted your SGS2?

Now that rooting is possible, although not a one-click experience - how many of you have rooted, what were the reasons, and what root access apps have you installed?
rooted, mainly for Titanium Backup but at least it's prepped and ready if anything else crops up!
I dont really understand what rooting does.. some one care to explain?

It gives you full access to all the information on your phone. It lets you back up apps and data to the SD card, which isn't possible with default security settings.
In essence, it's like getting administrator access to your computer, or "root" in linux, hence the name
Hoping to get mine tomorrow. I won't be rooting yet since there isnt anything released yet worth rooting for. And... I don't suppose I'll need TB just yet since I won't be messing with the phone SINCE nothing worth messing around with is available yet. Also I'll probably wait for a 1 click root or till something worth rooting comes along, whichever happens first.

I did it to get rid of all of the Samsung crapware that the phone came with.
I'd do the same with any Android device, regardless of manufacturer.

[Q] Received a phone that was Rooted, and wanting to get factory ROM?

Hi,
I just purchased the i9100 from someone today and I'm pretty sure that it's rooted. I checked the kernal and it is (2.6.35.7-RAGEmod-U1-v1.1b).
Can anyone please point me in the right direction? Also which files would I need? Do I need to use a USB jig?
I have no idea what I'm doing, there is someone on kijiji (local selling/buying site) that says they will flash it back for me for $100, should I just do that?
Thanks everyone!
not sure what you would do, but what i am CERTAIN about is do not pay 100 bucks... just go to the dev section and read up there.. factory reset (turn phone off, hold volume up, power and home keys simultaneously)
Sorry I wasn't being more specific, but what I wanted to do is unroot the phone. When my phone powers on I get a GR check rom boot logo?
My phone seems to be missing a lot of default apps compared to my brothers SGS2.
well theres this program called s-root which can on click unroot your phone. not sure if you need a specific kernel though. ask around in this forum - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414

Just unrooting the phone should work with SuperOneClick (download to your PC, enable USB debugging on the phone, connect it to the PC and click on the big "unroot" button. If you are running some custom ROM you want to here rid of you will have to flash complete new clean software from Samsung.
But to the missing features: you said you have an older Galaxy S1, oder course there are other (better) apps and a totally new software on the successor, the SGS2.

Yes that's a custom rom, checkrom v5, go to the stock rom thread, pick an upto date rom, ki8 is the newest.
Flash using odin, guide is also in the thread.
That's the only way to remove a custom rom and kernel and restore the removed apps.

You are on a custom rom or a modified stock rom for shure. If you want to get back to stock then you have a thread in the development section that hosts all the stock roms or are links to them at least. Flashing a stock rom will also unroot you phone.
Now as for the flashing part you need to read the stickies search for a youtube video before you do it. You need to understand that flashing has its risks. Although I flashed my phones at least 50 times and never bricked any of them so far you still need to be warned. Its not complicated at all but you need to understand the basic steps. Good luck.

Also did anyone test bootloader unlock on Xperia Live?
How come none of you realised that Mini/MiniPro/Active/Live ARE THE SAME INTERNALLY?
All of these ways to root, unlock bootloaders etc. are almost universal amongst these devices.
If you want to unlock the Bootloader you either do it the Sony Ericsson way by going to their site, Or you do it the Test Point way.

so what you are saying is i can flash a MINI ROM on my Live?
Sure you can. You will most probably end with a fixed landscape though, like i did with my Active when i tried to flash a Mini Pro rom for the lulz.
Most mods and fixes especially between Mini/Active/Live are interchangable. If you check the Themes and Apps subforum you will see that most mods are for all the "mini's", or at least compatible with them.
Plus making a Rom for the Live is pretty easy. Just download dsixda's Kitchen. Unpack the FTF file and retrieve system.sin . Convert it into .img with SIN2IMG ( to be honest that was the biggest pain in the ass, to find a SIN2IMG that wouldn't go fubar on me). And you're done!
If you have been using dsixda's kitchen before its pretty much straightforward. If you want some links just PM me.

thanks this really helps, i just can't seem to figure out the unlock bootloader, whats with the paperclip thing someone got a video tut or pic i dont get it.
It's no secret that the Live/Mini/Mini pro/Active/Ray had the same chipset but it doesn't hurt to double check since not all of them hv the same Camera/Display. It beats having to not double check and end up bricking ur phone. But Thnx 4 pointing it out bro
All i did was strip a cable on both ends, one long one short. Wrap the long part around a needle, and the short part on the Ground of the phone. ( i think its the middle single metal). Then all you have to do is what you are being told in s1tool. Its pretty easy. I had goosebumps when i first tried it but its a lot easier than it seems.

Well "bro", you wont end up bricking your phone. As long as you have a working Fastboot you're gonna be just fine. Even if you screw up fastboot ( i dont know how that can happen) all you have to do is a rescue on the Flashtool, in order to revert to the locked bootloader and start all over again.
About the SIN2IMG... I have tried over 7 different SIN2IMG.exe's Most of them failed. I couldnt even bother with compiling the sin2img on linux. I have a working one for Windows7 x64, but i need to find it in the mess i have made of my files
This one says it works specifically for xperias.. but haven't tried it yet so i'll try
last thing I'm asking how the hell do i get the sticker off without damaging it? and put it on the right place of course
oh what are the chances that it fails
I recommend the SE website method mostly bcuz you can re-lock the bootloader with this method after unlocking and its much simpler in my opinion

This will be my first Samsung phone. Coming from HTC. I know with HTC you can unlock the bootloader and them flash custom roms without having to root. Can this be done (yet) with the Samsung S3? Or is rooting the simplest way to flash roms when they come available? Until a few good ones come out I may keep my new shinny S3 unrooted.

I was wondering if it was possible to run these as a command line in terminal, or via ADB, there in altering the permissions, or a chmod/chown. Also I found a zip with the zte release keys. I can provide the .xml if needed. i.imgur. con /WMisb8T. png sorry new so can't post link
Any news on a zmax pro root?
Hi I'm working on root with some others.
Please wait patiently. Thanks.
Awesome thank you guys! Excited!

Any progress?
Well with *Rom toolbox you could at least get the file manager that shows hidden files. Not sure if that helps I tried giving some files administrative permissions to no avail.

This will factory reset your device b sire u back it up 1st but this should allow custom rom installs and system app removal it should give you all the power of root
There is a huge thread at androidforums with over 3000 posts about trying to root the ZMAX Pro. OEM Unlocking in Developer Options would normally ALLOW bootloader unlocking (wouldn't actually unlock it, but would allow it to be done using the "fastboot oem unlock" command in ADB), but since the ZMAX Pro doesn't have the option to reboot in bootloader mode this command won't work.

Yeah I've seen that . From what I've read they're just as stomped as everyone else . This exploit is truly groundbreaking I just hope people don't give up on it yet

The zmax pro has been exploited thanks to a modified dirtycow. Head over to android forums under the zmax pro section and lend a hand.

Does that mean it most likely never get root ?? Especially if it's already patched ? Or does that mean that some people won't get it and would be forced to downgrade firmware (if possible) in order to obtain root ?

Ill start by saying the reason root has not been achieved yet is because ZTE put a lot of effort into preventing root most likely due to cobtract terms with the carriers. This phone has been a very tough nut to crack but more progress has been made in the past month than the previous 2 years due to a security vulnerability that has been oatched by google but not yet released by the carriers for this phone. Root was almost here when i last posted but a brick wall has been hit for now. Dont let that alarm you, it is common to hit a brick wall when attempting to hack a device, this is not the first brick wall for this phone but it should be the last. The developer that is working on it is very very good and if anyone can achieve root on this phone it is him and he has a decent sized group of other experienced devs and amateurs assisting him with whatever he needs. I would suggest that you dont update your phone if your carrier releases an update because the next update released by your carrier will very likely include the patch google released. When google releases a patch for a carrier locked phone like this one, the carrier has to include it on an OTA update before it is installed on your phone. MetroPCS versions of this phone as of this date have not been updated to include the new google security patch yet as far as i am aware, however an update could be released any day as google released the patch almost 2 months ago now. Any build that ends in B21 or under has not been patched yet. You can check your build number under Settings->About Phone.
Once root is achieved me and a couple of other devs are standing by to start work on custom roms and we are in direct contact with the guy working on root and as far as i know we will release it all together. So when it happens you will get a one click root and custom recovery method as well as at least 2 custom rom options all at the same time. For the time being, be patient, once the work is done and stable root is achieved it will be posted.
