same here I've developed for galaxy 3 and can't find anything usefull for this phone since its all MINI/PRO/Active

Also did anyone test bootloader unlock on Xperia Live?

How come none of you realised that Mini/MiniPro/Active/Live ARE THE SAME INTERNALLY?
All of these ways to root, unlock bootloaders etc. are almost universal amongst these devices.
If you want to unlock the Bootloader you either do it the Sony Ericsson way by going to their site, Or you do it the Test Point way.

so what you are saying is i can flash a MINI ROM on my Live?

Sure you can. You will most probably end with a fixed landscape though, like i did with my Active when i tried to flash a Mini Pro rom for the lulz.
Most mods and fixes especially between Mini/Active/Live are interchangable. If you check the Themes and Apps subforum you will see that most mods are for all the "mini's", or at least compatible with them.
Plus making a Rom for the Live is pretty easy. Just download dsixda's Kitchen. Unpack the FTF file and retrieve system.sin . Convert it into .img with SIN2IMG ( to be honest that was the biggest pain in the ass, to find a SIN2IMG that wouldn't go fubar on me). And you're done!
If you have been using dsixda's kitchen before its pretty much straightforward. If you want some links just PM me.

thanks this really helps, i just can't seem to figure out the unlock bootloader, whats with the paperclip thing someone got a video tut or pic i dont get it.

It's no secret that the Live/Mini/Mini pro/Active/Ray had the same chipset but it doesn't hurt to double check since not all of them hv the same Camera/Display. It beats having to not double check and end up bricking ur phone. But Thnx 4 pointing it out bro

All i did was strip a cable on both ends, one long one short. Wrap the long part around a needle, and the short part on the Ground of the phone. ( i think its the middle single metal). Then all you have to do is what you are being told in s1tool. Its pretty easy. I had goosebumps when i first tried it but its a lot easier than it seems.

Well "bro", you wont end up bricking your phone. As long as you have a working Fastboot you're gonna be just fine. Even if you screw up fastboot ( i dont know how that can happen) all you have to do is a rescue on the Flashtool, in order to revert to the locked bootloader and start all over again.
About the SIN2IMG... I have tried over 7 different SIN2IMG.exe's Most of them failed. I couldnt even bother with compiling the sin2img on linux. I have a working one for Windows7 x64, but i need to find it in the mess i have made of my files

This one says it works specifically for xperias.. but haven't tried it yet so i'll try

last thing I'm asking how the hell do i get the sticker off without damaging it? and put it on the right place of course
oh what are the chances that it fails

I recommend the SE website method mostly bcuz you can re-lock the bootloader with this method after unlocking and its much simpler in my opinion

ok but you need to give your Imei (SE method ) and if its bricked you can't go to service center or am i wrong, how can you relock it btw?

If its Bricked you can Flash with with the SE Flasher tool method ( search if interested )
Here's the link for the Re-lock bootloader http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134335

ok i unlocked it now where can i get the stock roms just in case and how do i need to install cyanogenmod?

Definitely not the case. Flashing rom wont network unlock the phone.

any work arounds?? thanks for speedy response guys.
U need to pay for it. Send it to any phone repair shop and they could do it safely. Many have said that buying unlock codes online wont work for ace, and also the online diy tutorial mostly wont work too. Even if it does works, its too dangerous. One simple mistake and u got an expensive paperweight in your hand.

that sucks, i thought rooting the phone meant total control over it. is this only for samsung phones?? i ask because i rooted a few locked htc phones in the past and they were unlocked after rooting and flashing. thanks this is a real eye opener.

No all phones don't get unlocked by rooting. Rooting means you have access to the system files, which means you can then technically unlock but it is a lot safer to go to the shop.

Interesting to hear about the htc.
But definitely not just samsung, sony too. Rooting doesnt give network unlock. Hell u need to network unlock first before u can unlock bootloader on sony devices
I rooted my mom's EVO 3D..it also got network unlocked in the process

there is a guide on this site somewhere that I used to unlock my ace. I wish I bookmarked it but I didnt, however it wasnt very hard to do, just careful care needed in following the guide step for step. Need to have right tools on pc to follow guide as it uses adb I think.
Also I needed a sim for another network to get the unlock code prompt up so I could actually unlock it, that was easy as I have different network sims here anyway.
ok found it here.

to get the unlock prompt to show up without different simcard, just use this code

DRM Keys - what's to lose?

before you go into sarcasm-mode and start posting lmgtfy links, I've read this and this, but I need more info.
So, what's to lose by unlocking my bootloader using the official method?
Unlocking with the Test Point didn't work and it's getting on my nerves. Every tutorial I've read, and every video I've watched, all followed step by step, word by word, didn't work for my phone, but that's not relevant now.
Most of the time people say TrackID and Gracenote Music Info services (which I can't use anyways) cease to work without DRM keys, but some members have reported otherwise. I don't use/buy/have DRM'd content so I'm not worried about that.
All in all, it seems I stand to lose nothing, and being able to flash whatever I want seems so damn worth a try.
eagerly waiting for your answers
ur ri8 dude!!!
INDEED THERE IS NOTHING TO LOSE AND UNLOCKING BY OFFICIAL METHOD IS FAR MORE SAFE AND EASY
Hell wid DRM Keys
Thanks for your input, bud :good:
However, due to a very restricted mobile data cap (no DSL/Cable here), I'll have to wait till tomorrow. Not because of the unlock procedure, it's just I don't have any custom ROM worth flashing at the moment, and most of them are 100mb+
Hopefully, more members will drop by and post some thoughts (yeah, thoughts, because there seems to be no end-all-be-all concensus on this).
Well i'll make also oficial one and after month of use still dont missing nothing.

This is my only "reliable" phone at the moment and I want it to stay that way, so CM10 remains a no-go until it's stable enough for a daily driver.
BTW, I don't feel like I'm missing anything from JB right now. Quite a bunch of it's new features are merely internet services (which sucks in my area). Don't care that much about Project Butter either 'cause my XMP is smooth enough already

I believe there's at least a slight change of retaining your warranty if you unlock it via TP method, since you can relock it while still having DRM keys intact, where unlocking with official method, you leave significantly bigger footprint (SE site + no DRM keys), and there's no way Sony will cover any hardware damage to your phone afterwards.
And about TrackID, i never used it, and I consider it nothing more than a bloatware
Nothing but this
Hi budd
1st :: DRM and S*** like that I guess can be replaced with SoundHound or Shazam
2nd :: As for Warranty ,hmm ,I unlocked my XMP 30 minutes after I bought it:laugh: ,Warranty is only for software or Factory building Mistakes ,it does't cover any hardware damage if it's done by you (I don't know if this is the situation in your country),so no need to it(as you're gonna pay to have it fixed if it got broken) ,every software problem is fixable be flashing a stock .ftf
3rd :: The only concern is This

But I think FlashTool Is more than Enough ,It can do the same functions as PC Companion and SUS ,and even have a lot more than that ,(+ a Log):good:
4th :: on the long term ,UnLocked Bootloader gives you a lot of Flexibility
Like U don't have to root after Flashing Stocks ,just flashing Kernels will do ,custom Kernels ,CWM ..... etc etc:victory:
Try Real ICS r5.2 with KrSH Kernel 3.0
Or Stock .431 firmware with MESA 1.6
These are great Mix I think:highfive:
Or you can Flash FXP-132
Happy UnLocking & Flashing
Now you can use trackID without any DRM on your phone. I agree with Un.Knowen trackID is garbage it could barely recognize my songs.
For my part I suggest real ICS lite r2 + KrSH Kernel V2! For stability and battery life
voyé dépi on ti SK17i!!

I just last week used the test point method to unlock the bl of my Mini (ST15i). I was having a ton of issues and totally unable to go through with it using the tool under Windows 7 but when i booted into Windows XP, was able to accomplish it in the first go, so that's a consideration as well. I'd still recommend you give it one more shot but only for the following reason, not the DRM keys

Real ICS is basically stock rom with mods installed... I have already almost all of those mods installed on my stock rom Also, i believe you can install RealICS on device with locked bootloader.
Only reason i would ever consider unlocking bootloader would be to put better kernel (better: i would expect at least 20% performance boost, and longer battery life), or perhaps some bug-free version of JB
Keeping a locked bootloader just for the sake of using OTAs and official updates is just silly IMO. It's not like Sony delivers updates faster than this community does, right?
Well, screw DRM, I'll do it tonight
I used test point method with omnius during free easter holiday promotion.
Managed to do it myself. Don't be confused with no indication or visible sign that test point is pressed. Just connect dot and sim card holder, remove connection, plug phone and send unlock by program. (from my memory). That's it. Yes and drivers.
Now I'm free (unlocked bootloader) and DRM still there. Best combination.
You loose repair with pc companion or updater also.

PS : some times it just doesn't work ,shows error in s1tool
when that happens use another computer (Friend ,Relatives ,etc)or format yours

I think It's a Complicated Drivers Mix issue ,It faced this issue twice ,but any way I formated the system part of my Laptop and that solved the problem (FormatAholic + FlashAholic)

[Q] Noob wanting to root device - Scared about losing IMEI etc

Hi guys,
What is the best way to root this beautiful device? Currently my Z Ultra is using stock rom, I'm happy with it but I want to root so I can add on a few things like App 2 SD, titanium backup etc with the possibility of maybe adding on a ROM once development kicks off for Sony Z Ultra Roms.
When I had my Note 2, I backed up the EFS with the rooting tool as I was told this was where all my IMEI and serial were housed in case the device got bricked - Therefore, I want to find out what the same kind of thing with the Z ultra is. I've heard that you should back up the TA partition but that's for the Bravia engine keys if I'm not mistaken? Will that also backup the IMEI and any other important bits of info like the serial?
Long story short, I want to know what the safest way to root is please and how I can backup all the neccessary things so that if God forbid my device does get bricked etc, I can go back and still have a fully functional device.
Thanks all
HamzaB

It's safe. Use vRoot, and it'll be over after 10 seconds. It's also almost impossible to hard brick it unless you throw it into a volcano or something. You might soft brick it, like I did last week, but it's simple to get it up and running again.
One question though. Are you currently running firmware version 532 or 257?

From everything that I have read on this forum, VRoot does NOT appear to work with .257.
The only way to root .257 at the moment seems to be to revert to .532, root it, and then use a root-keeper while you do an OTA upgrade to .257.
that's correct, and you can revert your firmware without unlocking your bootloader, which doesn't void your warranty too. yay to sony
I promise you it's easier than you think.
It's also very easy to recover your phone. I got a couple bootloops and then I did something so my navbar disappeared.
I just re-flashed .352 -> 257 and that was that.
I love how easy it is.

I will follow the vroot method as someone mentioned on this thread, however, I've read to backup TA partition to backup DRM Bravia keys or something, however, how can I backup things like IMEI/Serial etc (things that were kept on EFS on Note devices)
Thanks

I'm not sure. I think there was an alternative, albeit much longer and complicated rooting guide back on 475 or something (that should still work on 532?). The rooting scene ain't pretty from now on. We don't have any other "one click root" solutions at the moment, so we're properly f*****, unless you want to give the vRoot people your information, like a lot of us have already done
The difference between unlocked bootloader and locked bootloader is that the unlocked bootloader is unlocked. Just kidding. I literally just unlocked my bootloader, and it allows me to install Recovery and flash custom ROMs like CM, PAC-ROM, PA etc. You'll lose X-Reality though, so you might want to think about it before you do it, but it's revertible (i.e you can lock it again) and get X-Reality back as long as you've backed up your TA folder!

Ah so you have to unlock boot loader for pretty much anything.
I'm not really interested in installing custom ROMs, I think Sony have actually done quite a good job, I only installed custom roms on my note because samsung was so bloated.
Do I have to unlock bootloader if all I want to do is add a few things like awesome beats, titanium backup pro etc? I don't want to install a ROM.
Hopefully someone somewhere comes up with a new rooting method soonish. Would even donate.
EDIT: In theory then, can I unlock the boot loader, install a custom rom, then relock it so I get x reality back etc?

You don't have to unlock the bootloader if you just want to root and install Titanium etc. You only need to unlock it if you want to flash a custom ROM. People are trying to find a root exploit in 257, but it looks like it's really hard to do, so we just have to wait.
And that won't work. You need to have Recovery installed to flash custom ROMs, and Recovery requires root.

locked bootloader's are almost as bland as you can get :(

What is the proper way to know if a ROM will work with stock Kernel or LB ? I want to try out many of these roms but due to lack of information in the threads I find my self stock on only 2 different ones to choose from ...
Is there a list somewhere of Z2 Locked Bootloader ROMs would save me hours of questioning ... /?
Thanks to anyone who can send me in the right direction...
Here's one I want to try Liquid Smooth... Any info on the kernel here ?... what about indication of LB or UB / no ? So now what

Right but for the record there are just 3 correct ? OR is there another... that part has me, I gotta dig threw these other flashy roms and that gets me sad when I see no updates ... I am excited to try yours the other 2 were a little better than OK... just wanted to try some of these others (miss my CM based roms ... But what can I do right ..
Some of the others seem like they might work ... but I don't want to mess up my phone and invest multiple hours getting it back .. .plus I have to have a full internal backup with an LB xperia and that sucks.. kinda kills the use of backup / restore... if you can grasp what I mean by that..
sincerely

There are more roms that are stock based, almost all stockbased roms for Z2 are in Development section, there are a couple of non stock based roms in the same section
I recomend backing up your TA and unlocking your bootloader
That way you will have flashing freedom and also if you need your warrenty back you can flash a stock FTF and restore your TA partition

Best bet is to sell your phone and import one
Also stockbased roms should give info in the xda dev db part on weather they are stockbased or not
I know and thank you greatly for your attention just thought ? or might not be such a bad idea ? that someone with the time ability and care could help us out by making a Sticky thread with the few that actually are available some seem 50/50 and I'm tempted to try but in actual fact that could cost me hours .. Having you point out THE only 3 was a great asset to me believe it or not .. Saves me the regret of reading ? things I can't have ..
Kinda like staring at a Lamborghini . Haha
No thanks again

Max pro key release and permission
Super noob...so forgive me. I was browsing the system files and found these, (see attachment).
I was wondering if it was possible to run these as a command line in terminal, or via ADB, there in altering the permissions, or a chmod/chown. Also I found a zip with the zte release keys. I can provide the .xml if needed. i.imgur. con /WMisb8T. png sorry new so can't post link
Any news on a zmax pro root?
Hi I'm working on root with some others.
Please wait patiently. Thanks.
Awesome thank you guys! Excited!

Any progress?
Well with *Rom toolbox you could at least get the file manager that shows hidden files. Not sure if that helps I tried giving some files administrative permissions to no avail.

This will factory reset your device b sire u back it up 1st but this should allow custom rom installs and system app removal it should give you all the power of root
There is a huge thread at androidforums with over 3000 posts about trying to root the ZMAX Pro. OEM Unlocking in Developer Options would normally ALLOW bootloader unlocking (wouldn't actually unlock it, but would allow it to be done using the "fastboot oem unlock" command in ADB), but since the ZMAX Pro doesn't have the option to reboot in bootloader mode this command won't work.

Yeah I've seen that . From what I've read they're just as stomped as everyone else . This exploit is truly groundbreaking I just hope people don't give up on it yet

Does that mean it most likely never get root ?? Especially if it's already patched ? Or does that mean that some people won't get it and would be forced to downgrade firmware (if possible) in order to obtain root ?

Ill start by saying the reason root has not been achieved yet is because ZTE put a lot of effort into preventing root most likely due to cobtract terms with the carriers. This phone has been a very tough nut to crack but more progress has been made in the past month than the previous 2 years due to a security vulnerability that has been oatched by google but not yet released by the carriers for this phone. Root was almost here when i last posted but a brick wall has been hit for now. Dont let that alarm you, it is common to hit a brick wall when attempting to hack a device, this is not the first brick wall for this phone but it should be the last. The developer that is working on it is very very good and if anyone can achieve root on this phone it is him and he has a decent sized group of other experienced devs and amateurs assisting him with whatever he needs. I would suggest that you dont update your phone if your carrier releases an update because the next update released by your carrier will very likely include the patch google released. When google releases a patch for a carrier locked phone like this one, the carrier has to include it on an OTA update before it is installed on your phone. MetroPCS versions of this phone as of this date have not been updated to include the new google security patch yet as far as i am aware, however an update could be released any day as google released the patch almost 2 months ago now. Any build that ends in B21 or under has not been patched yet. You can check your build number under Settings->About Phone.
Once root is achieved me and a couple of other devs are standing by to start work on custom roms and we are in direct contact with the guy working on root and as far as i know we will release it all together. So when it happens you will get a one click root and custom recovery method as well as at least 2 custom rom options all at the same time. For the time being, be patient, once the work is done and stable root is achieved it will be posted.
