Low battery life! - HTC Rezound

My rezound is rooted. I am on clean rom 4.5 with the 3.13 kernel. Everything runs very smoothly and just how I like it.
I also have the OEM HTC extended battery in my phone and my battery life is still bad. It doesn't get through a day.
Am I missing something here? Maybe a bad setup? Any suggestions? Comments will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance.

How much are you using it? The screen seems to be a big drain on our Rezound.
I'm at 55% 12 hours into the day with the stock battery. Usage has only been a few calls, some FB, Tapatalk, google finance checks and several times into gmail but WiFi has been on all day except when driving for about 1hr (with 3g and bluetooth turned on).
Just went s-off and installed CR4.5 yesterday.
HTC REZOUND / S-OFF / CleanROM 4.5

I'm using it a good amount. Constantly using fb and the browser. Texting a lot also. Question.
Do you think it will make a difference if I switdh to s-off?

How much is your screen on time? You using 3G or 4G?
Most people get a hour and a half to 2 hours of screen on time with the stock battery.

As jazzy said 4g is really hard on the battery too. Google 'Extremetech 4g' to read their article to understand why. It's more to do with how 4g networks are configured than with the actual phones.

...and no, I don't think S-Off will make a difference.
Here's the 4G / battery life info I mentioned:

S-OFF in itself will in no way effect your battery life.

Thank you all for your inputs. Yeah I use 4g heavily and my screen a lot. I take full advantage of the phones capabilities. I have another question though.
Is there a script to flash in order to recalibrate your battery? I know there are some apps. I've tried a few and I didn't notice much of a difference.
Thanks!
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA

there's no such scripts. battery calibration isn't visible regardless of a script, app, recovery or charging to full capacity

Did acquiring a larger battery solve your problem, or did you opt for a ROM to aid you?

go back to gingerbread, problem solved.

Getting a bigger battery did solve my problem somewhat. I think I will be switching back to GB for a while to see if there is any difference. I will definitely keep you guys posted. Also my battery now lasts about a day. Depends on my usage. But it does last a decent amount. Wish it could go more than a day.

Errm because you're underclocked to 500 mhz?
Seriously, that's like running ics of an LG optimus one lol. What's the point of having such a high-speced phone if you're gonna opt for battery over performance?!

I actually was underclocked to 540mhz because I don't need 1.5ghz to browse the web. That test was mainly to prove good battery life is possible if you really need it sometimes. Todays results week be more real world use. I never run my phone like that. But I know I will still get good battery life with higher clock,4g, and bright screen

I think you're right about that.
Last Friday, I switched from the setup in my sig to the newer innefilibis v1.0 ICS ROM & my battery life seems to have dropped quite noticebly. I set up the new ROM with the EXACT same apps etc as the old one to get a fair comparison.
I do a lot of audio streaming at work which is really hard on battery life, but with the 2750 extended battery I do make it through a full day at work. Now, today my battery dropped to 50% charge in only a couple hours use & I only turned the screen on briefly to text a couple times........

Go to the phone menu and set it to LTE mode (w/voice) will use less because there is no 3g connection running at the same time.

There is a script to recalibrate the battery. I looked inside the script, and it just wipes battery stats, so you don't have to do it inside Recovery. However, the apps that wipe stats on the Market do the exact same thing as the script.
I personally am S-Off with the latest leaked RUU. I am on the latest CleanROM DE ICS with the OEM extended battery. I get great battery life. If I wasn't using my phone much, I'd easily make it through two days. The way it is now, I get moderate to heavy use and easily make it through a single day.
I don't run live wallpapers, I keep the widgets to a minimum, I only use Gmail for email, no Social networking services are active, and I have some system apps frozen.
I do have a crapton of apps installed, but very few that have notifications. I remember back when K-9 Mail was eating up battery like crazy. Look for culprit apps like that, there is usually something.

Honestly, coming off my old OG Droid Incredible, anything more that 4 hours of battery impresses me. I am an -extremely- heavy user. 4G, auto brightness, lots of web browsing and games, and my battery temperature often hits 115-120 degrees fahrenheit when gaming. I can pull 4-6 hours on a stock 3.8v or 3.7v battery. I have a second battery and a charge cradle, as well as a 1 amp car charger. I find I'm never away from a power source for longer than that. Further, I just bought a 5000mah battery pack to emergency charge all my gadgets. My recommendation is to drop $50 on a second battery and charge cradle. Battery becomes irrelevant.

I never used the stock battery.
There is plenty of conflicting information about battery stats, but I've found bump charging and clearing battery stats to be helpful on other phones, even if that's just a perception thing.

I have crappy battery life on stock with minimal use, bought the extended battery and it was much better. Only issue.. i bought an otterbox defender lol.. so had to go back to stock so just frequent recharging.
I think the answer is because the battery just sucks. Its way undersized for this phone. It's hard to get a real handle on it though because everyone thinks of their usage has normal or heavy, so the accounts you read are tottaly irrelevant to how you use it.
I normally am screen on and 3G for 45-60 each morning for some news and slacking before getting to work. That will eat half my battery, which is completely unacceptable IMO. On a weekend when I pick it up a couple times an hour for a this or that, I still only get like 10-12 hours.
Our only hope is that the next phone that takes the place of the rezound has a higher capacity battery that will work for us like the deal with the thunderbolt. Otherwise, ill continue to haul around adapters and my New Trent battery whenever I'm going to be away from home for more than a few hours.
Incredible. And I hates extended battery unless they low profile like the g nex one! Anyway. Gonna try wipe battery in cwm ...thanks

Use Amon ra or one of the utilities to wipe battery stats from the market or even better delete it yourself manually.

This. There is really no reason to have the screen brightness set to over 20% When I was turning LTE off I would normally get around 20 hours on CleanROM. That's with 2 hours of screen on time and moderate use throughout the day. Been leaving LTE on and getting 14 to 16.

Hopefully, htc will take a page from moto and make phones with 3000mah+ nonremovable batteries. I would be ok with that.

Run my screen that low constantly unless I'm in the bright sun. Auto is a battery killer. Have no desire to use an extended battery. If they started using fixed batteries they would be driving away a lot of customers. Motorola is the last manufacturer anyone needs to emulate!

really? I am intrigued by the razr maxx simply because of the 3300mah battery. Not to mention, everyone raves about the new software moto phones have that allow you to set profiles.
I just don't like the pentile screens.
And I don't think a 3300mah battery would drive away many people. That battery would last 99% of the smartphone users over 24 hours.
The 3300 mah sounds great. The fact of not being removable is a modder's nightmare. Moto's encrypted bootloaders and god awful motoblur are major turn offs. Not to mention that all their handsets since the DX have a terrible feel.
The extended battery is nice, but I only use it when I know I'll need it because it destroys the contours of the device and makes it even more of a brick than it already is.

When I first got the phone (on release day) I was pulling 25 hours with the stock battery. I'd have the brightness on auto and use wifi whenever possible. While I was sleeping I would put it in airplane mode so I could use it as an alarm clock and not have anything else wake me up.

That made me laugh, that's like having a gorgeous car but never taking it out of the garage. You have a beautiful screen but at a brightness that low you can't appreciate it. With the extended battery I leave mine at full brightness or 75%, with the standard battery I keep it 60% or less.

Why is battery life so bad on the Rezound?

Currently running Clean Rom 1.4 Senseless and just did S-Off.
I bought a extended battery due to the awful battery life but still I am getting really bad overall life.
I am coming from an Incredible so I am use to good batt life but is it basically due to the screen and dual core processor? Kernel? Rom?

upgrade your firmware. its been said the newest firmware is showing better battery life then ones before.
you are s=off so what i would say is to run the latest leaked ruu.
if you arent to comfortable with it you can follow these steps:
1. back up rom, user data
2. back up internal storage (ruu will wipe it)
3. place latest ruu zip on the root of your external SD card.
4. flash it twice, first time will be super fast the second one will take the longest.
5. flash or fastboot your recovery of your choice back to the phone.
6. now this part is up to you, you can restore the rom you are currently on or flash it over and start fresh. ( for me when i restored i was having problems and random FC so i did a wipe and started fresh)
Hmm I'll probably do the firmware upgrade. Also does 4G LTE require more power from the phone than 3G?
Also yes I do stream a lot but I always have my screen off.

Yes, it uses a lot more power. You can save power by using wifi as much as possible.
Some programs that I've noticed seem to kill my battery faster even when not using the particular app:
- Words with Friends
- Winamp
- Task Killers
- Trillian
- Samba Filesharing (only when sharing is active though)
- Google Latitude (although battery drain on this service is much less than in it used to be in the past)
- Wifi Protector
I'm sure there are a few others I'll think of later..

yep 4g destroys battery. im working on making a task for tasker app that will turn on the ICS power save mode when screen is off.
the power save mode will kick in normally when the phone is below 20% i believe. but the options you have for said mode, you can turn off 4g and turn 1 core off. but this task is hard to do because i am no way a dev.
I personally find that awake battery life is decent, screen of battery is less than decent.
newest leak seems to be, awake (screen on) battery is terrible, screen off battery drain is nonexsistant ~ unless you are asking for it by having gps, autosync, or 4g on
One thing, I pay 30 bucks a month for data (just like the rest of you) and have a hard time sucking on WiFi because of poor battery life. I guess my point is why have 4G if you can't use it? If thats the case I might as well of stayed with Sprint. That said I think the 4G drain would really depend on how far the tower is from your location. Mine are pretty close. I have gone the other route and turned off WiFi and just live off 4G. I'll let you know how that goes..
I actually got rid of my extended battery and went back to my stock one after I flashed the newest leak. It's that much better. I also use 4g all the time, no WiFi
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA
I am on latest leak and battery life is decent with extended. Agree that with screen off battery drain is very slow. Battery even charges quickly even while tethering. It could always be better though.. with heavy use I can drain by battery in a 3 to 4 hours. And heavy is reading forums and articles using tapatalk 2, tweetdeck for twitter/fb, ESPN score center, maybe you tube but just the screen on and typing/touching the screen kills it.
Using leaked 3.14.605.. s-off and..

I think it matters a great deal how strong your signal is. I only have 3G in my area and my signal at home is pretty weak. When I turn off wifi and just use 3G my battery drops like a rock.

The screen-on time is the main battery killer of the device.
I agree that overall the battery life on the Rezound has been relatively poor for me in comparison to other smartphones - regardless of what kernel I have been running.
Holding out hope that the upcoming official ICS release helps. Aside from that, I just placed an order for the beastly extended battery.
I like this device, but the battery life is just not very good.
The screen is the number one killer (since it's high-def) followed by the 4G radio. After a normal day's usage my screen takes up anywhere from 75%+ of the battery life.

Here is my chart from yesterday. I did charge about 15 minutes late in the day in my car as you can see in the chart. But this was after 30+ hours of up time. I get amazed myself at how long this thing can go.
To me, screen on time and actual usage really indicate what you get out of a charge. I get about 3 hours of screen on time browsing and reading books before I'm at low battery. Usually, 16 hours is about what I get out of a charge with 2-3 hours of gaming and internet. The only thing I miss from the iPhone is battery: easily 2x the usage over the EVO.

I think sense 3.0 is kind of a battey killer too tho it was with me
I get around 12 hours, but that's with an extended battery.
Just to note a thing - listening music does not eat battery much after all if i switch to airplane mode. Also more apps I install - battery runs out faster. Even with sync off.
With wifi on, sync off I pull it out from charging for 15-16 hours with 20-30% battery life at the end. I use it to text people, check facebook, few phonecalls and listen to music for about hour.
Oh its stock battery.
There should be multiple threads running about this in general. all the flasholics who focus on battery life should post there experiences, with information on the battery brand, ROM, kernel, and usage .
Clearly we all seem to have very different experiences, but finding common aspects of those with the best battery life would be greatly valuable tot he rest of us.
im using a:
1900mah cheapo battery from ebay.
SOS M ICS 3.6 with Sock Kernel
14 Hrs heavy use.
1 day+ in standby
longer battery change rom
kernals have alot to do with battery life,
best battery life i have seen is running meanrom with 5.4 dadova or 5.2 depending on what you feel is a little more stable. I run chads quadrant 1a because I love the speed and batterry is still better then stock
Going from stock Gingerbread ROM to senseless ICS moded ROM nearly doubled my battery life.It went from 24h to almost 48h with absolutely same usage of the phone

Attached are my recent stats and I'm wondering if this is considered good battery life or if something is up with my phone. Mods, if one of these exists, please close and post link.

Seems low I haven't really put my battery through cycles yet but I'll post when I get a chance...I'm guessing from what I've seen so far about 4-5 hours screen on time with mix of internet/games
If you don't post your screen on time shot it really doesn't matter imho...but the 3 shots most people are putting up is perfect for comparison...just my two cents.

i got some pretty good use out of mine. Watched some netflix in the morning before heading to work.
Man I wish I could get 4 hours of screen time. I'm looking slightly better than my OG evo between 2 and 3 hours. Plus I've been tweaking and monitoring. I've killed latitiude, froze a ton of stuff, CDMA only. Using better battery stats to monitor.

You have a decent of awake time when the screen is not on. You may have a wake lock. I would download better battery stats and check it out.
yup. Looks like big wakelock .

Not been banging on it too hard today.

Edit: I've noticed over the last few months on ICS that listening to local music on head phones with screen off shows as awake time with solid blue line. Which does make sense, as the phone is not sleeping, but I dont think it reported/showed that way in gingerbread. You used to be able to just compare blue lines for determining a wakelock (other than music).
Just throwing this out there FWIW.

is there no way to turn mobile off, my OG evo had a checkbox for Mobile always on...i cant find it on this phone

It actually might have something to do with all the monitoring your doing. I've found if I leave it alone and don't worry about things I easily get a whole day with all radios on 3 hours of screen time and still have about 40%. The battery life comes from the processor so letting it sleep is key.

This phone is godly, but It's been on the charger more than it hasn't and the battery drains so fast if I do anything. This seriously SUCKS... This morning it got to about 40% battery in about 3 hours. I must be super spoiled from my 3500mAh battery lasting over a day with heavy use on my OG EVO. i just wish there was something we could do. What a shame.

If you were using your phone the majority of those 3 hours that would actually be great battery life.

I agree. But when I noticed that I was having bad battery life, I had to find out what the cause was. Sometimes it is a rogue app or a system component gone bonkers. Best to try and root it out and then go back to the non-monitoring.

That day I took those pics I was at work. So the wake time without the screen on was me playing podcasts with the screen off. No downloading them. But I seem to have the same result with or without the podcasts.
But I think I did find a major culprit today. One of the stocks widgets I was using seemed to be draining the battery. I uninstalled it and my battery stats seem better.
Not bad.

how do i get into that screen?? i cant find it in my phone!! lol.. sorry guys
Pull down the notification bar hit settings then power then click on the power bar which should bring up the breakdown of the battery
I have terrible battery life....
This is also with an hour of voice calls.
And my signal isn't too great for most of the charge.
If you are getting poor battery life, and have disabled any apps, you may want to consider reenabling them to see if that helps. It seems counter intuitive, but I noticed a significant drop in battery life after disabling certain pre installed apps.

how to resolve the battery life?

I bought about three week ago this phone and I think it is very great but it has a big problem.....the battery life.
What can I do to resolve the short battery life?
Should I have to change the battery of this phone?
Or should I have to download an app that resolve the problem?
The ota 4.2.2 update from Verizon has horrible battery life. The majority of us are on custom roms and I can make it through the day just fine. You can try battery guru from the market and see if it helps. You can't replace the battery on this phone with a bigger one because it's internal and has strong adhesive attaching it to the housing.

Have you tried calibrating your battery? Run your battery drydry, then charge it up fully before using anything battery intensive on your phone.

In fact I use only 4.4.2 custom roms. Now i'm trying the kickdroid with sense 6.0 and I hope the battery life is much better .
However I will try battery guru.
Other news soon.

There's so much info out there on this very thing... The most drastic differences I have noticed in battery life are flashing through different roms and kernels. ViperDNA 3.5 has pretty decent battery life. I also adjust my auto-brightness to a super low manual setting and always have GPS and Wifi off.
I don't know if this is an option for you, but using the phone info app and changing from LTE to CDMA (PRL) makes a big difference in battery life for me. 4G seems to really take a lot of juice on this phone. Might just be the low signal strength where I'm at though.
Yeah battery is a stinker on this phone, I am lucky enough to have power outlets and battery packs, my sgs3 had a broken charging port for a year, so I am in wonderland with a phone that actually charges... I have had the battery in the teens for half a day before with basically everything off but cell and it kept chugging until I got home.

One way I have found a fix for battery life is putting a custom rom and kernel on the phone. With my current setup I can get 3 hours of screen time on my phone and can easily make it through the day on one charge.
I currently run cyanogenmod 11 with the 5th snapshot and I loaded crpalmers kernel. Everything is super smooth and like I said battery life is amazing the best I have ever seen while using this phone.
If your willing to try that you will see amazing battery life.

I use the HTC Droid DNA this way, the battery life is more than 2 days:
1 / Turn off WiFi, 3G, 4G when not needed.
2 / Adjust the brightness of the screen is less than or equal to 50%, then check the box Automatically adjust brightness.

I also use the ViperDNA 3.5. If i need the battery to last all day I lower brightness, turn GPS and WIFI off as other have mentioned and i also shut off AutoSync. I've used Battery Guru and Greenify (root) and seems to do well. takes some fine tuning. I try a bunch of different things, so hard to tell which is helping the most
