Our i717 Note it only records 1080p with the middle/center sensor. Is it limited bc of hardware? bc when I record 720p it feels like its zoomed out but thats bc its using the whole sensor and thats not happening when its recording 1080p(feels like it's zoomed in). Any way to fix that?
EDIT: The international note does it as well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpluo2kcBuo So is it really about hardware? or software? Any way to fix it?

I don't understand what you mean by "using all the sensor". There is only one sensor in both the int. And US note.

I mean its using the whole sensor where as recording in 1080p its only recording in the middle of the sensor instead of using the whole thing. Try it yourself, record in both 720p and 1080p. You will see what im talking about.
Opps double post.
Yeah I tried it and maybe I'm just an idiot but I really can't see what your talking about. All I know is the 1080p (or whatever the max is on the phone) looks freaking sweet on my tv when I record. I guess if you had side by side comparison videos we could see what your talking about

I get that as well... If you record on 1080P then the video seems zoomed in compared to 720P recording

Yeah, I get what the OP means/ I also have the problem. When he says it only uses the "middle sensor" It means that the video on the phone is cut in half. It's the same effect as iPhone 4 Pictures/ Video Where Pictures would be full size whilst video seemed to be zoomed in.
well considering 180P has more pixels than 720P. the 1080 is probably zoomed in to fill up the screen whereas the 720 will natively fit the screen.
regardless our screens cannot natively output 1080p only 720P. (1920 X 1080 or something)
1080p will be zoomed in and the left and right will be cut off. (1280 X 720)
720 p will be letter boxed.
well thats my guess
interesting. I also noticed that the video was "zoomed in". I thought it was normal since my girlfriends iphone does the same thing. I guess in order to find out if its truly zoomed in would be to watch a 1080p video on a computer to see if what was actually recorded is wider (shows more picture) than what is being shown on the phone. Still..if the international version isnt "zoomed in" i wonder why the att version is..

No that's not what I mean . In 1080p recording it only records within the middle of the sensor. Look at the post above and you will understand.

BUMP! There's no way to fix this? Like I want to use 1080p video but it doesn't use the whole camera sensor
so...no fix?
having this problem on my galaxy s 2 t989, as far as i remember with stock rom 2.3.6 it was fine...since i updated to ics 4.0.4 (oficial t mobo version) the issue started...tried custom roms...jelly bean roms, android 4.1.2 , 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 and the problem still the same

Comparing the two pictures posted above, 1080p actually looks a lot better than the 720p sample. It's just more zoomed in. I've had the same experience with mine. It looks worse while recording, but once I transfer the file to a computer or TV, 1080p looks a LOT better than 720p. I was a bit pissed off at it when I first got the phone, but I grew to love it. I can get closer to the subject without actually moving closer. It's led me to get some really great close-ups while shooting video. Phone cameras are generally very wide-angle, and it's kinda nice to have a mode that works a bit like a telephoto lens. Think of it this way: FREE OPTICAL ZOOM!

I don't think I'm going to miss the kickstand too much
Might just be me, but I swear the layout on the screen looks so odd, like the app/icons are adjusted weird or however you'd like to word it...
Other then that, it looks great!!
I think it looks good but I wish it had a kickstand. I'll getting it regardless. Can't wait till Summer! Hopefully they'll give us more of a demo!
I didn't think the kickstand would be for me until I started propping it up on my desk while doing work. It was easier to pick up phone calls via bluetooth while looking at it. I really want to see how the camera shots look and what kind of lens they are using. I think the camera bezel is huge and unnecessary but whatever.
What is the shell/casing made out of?
There was a kickstand accessory for the View, and i wanna say the guy said there is one for the 3D too.
The demo from drdrewdown is awesome. This phone is totally badass.. you can completely shut 3d off if you like... they said display looks much better than the original EVO.
My only concern is battery life... but I htink I'll begetting this phone.
Yeah, whats up with the lack of a kickstand? BSOD mentioned it still has one, but I do not see it. He also mentioned NFC, but I've not seen that mentioned anywhere else yet either.
Looks good I thing they should have gone more plain style like the iPhone 4 tho(look), I'll miss the kickstands, I hope the video quality is better then my current evo, this is what the nexus s should be ha ha, definetely going to get it tho

That's because of the higher resolution screen
BSOD stated the NFC but who knows if it's included in the chip but not enabled. Also I could care less for 3D since the only thing I would be able to play it back on is the Evo. At least now people won't ask you if you have an iPhone when they see that huge camera bezel in the back.
I can imagine people selling screen protectors for the back and the front.
I'll miss the kickstand a lot. I love propping up my phone since i keep it naked and want to minimize scratching the camera lens.
So does this have the adreno GPU?
The one thing that BSOD mentioned that I was really excited about was WiMax+LTE. Unfortunately, I didn't see anything about that mentioned during the liveblog on AC.
It's an awesome phone, no doubt about that, but I'm definitely not as excited about it as I was before. With the way things are going here in San Diego, it seems pretty much pointless to pick up a new phone that only has 3G/WiMax, as it doesn't look like we'll get WiMax anytime soon.
When is this phone scheduled for release or is it unknown ATM?
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
So about those facts BSOD posted, which I said were incorrect.....
The phone is sick, but the EVO View truly surprised me. It's awesome. Anyway, adios.
looks kinda less sleek then the original evo to me...No kickstand is huge for me I use that like 100 times a day at least lol...Loving the internal specs tho wow that phone is a beast...damn decisions decisions lol

Just sometime in the summer.. No specific month unfortunately.
My guess is around when the original Evo was released.
I think I am sticking with my launch day EVO. Not really impressed by the EVO 3D. EVO View seems kind of useless.
I was wondering if (previous) SGS owners that own a SGSII could comment on the differences in display sharpness between these units? IMO small text looks very bad/jagged on the SGS (fixed partially by speedmod kernel with sharpness fix).
From what I understood the new screen theoretically should be sharper (RGB vs. pentile matrix layout) but I'd like to know first-hand if it makes a huge difference or not, especially for small text?
UPDATE: I did a careful comparison of small text on my SGS (2.3.4 JVP, Speedmod Kernel with Sharpness fix, dpi 220, EXT4) with an SGSII of a colleague, and my conclusion is that IMO there is not enough difference in that area to justify getting an SGSII. If you are mainly looking for a speed improvement it might be worthwhile though. I thought my tweaked SGS was fast, but I was truly amazed by the speed of the II!
Thanks! I know the specs, but I was looking more for user opinions on a sharpness comparison regarding small text.
it's slighly easier to read on the SGS2 because they ditched the pentile matrix scheme on the SAMOLED+. The difference isn't that great mind you, but it's there
The sub pixel count increased, but the screen size increased too which basically cancels out the improvements. The Samsung infuse especially doesn't look sharp.
So the consensus is that there is not that much difference in crispness/sharpness of tiny text ? I really hoped that I would be able to zoom out small text a bit more on the SGSII without it becoming unreadable?
O well, I guess I just will have to physically check it out myself.
If a sharp display is what youre looking for, you'd best steer clear of this device. Dont get me wrong, the screen itself is quite nice (so videos look good), but the resolution is so incredibly low that text and pictures, especially while browsing, look terribly pixelated. I'll post a few photos in a bit to give you a general idea. Why samsung would ruin the the screen's vibrancy and sharpness by going with such a low resolution absolutely boogles me.
Here are some photos, as promised. Make sure to look at them at 100%. You'll notice the photos are incredibly blockey/pixelated.

Also, on a separate note......8 megapixel camera? Seriously? Here's a photo I took today in Ginza on maximum resolution, superfine. The result, cloudy/washed out/blurry. Hi Cloned, thanks for your reply...
Lens is clean.....it's a brand new phone for gosh sake. Also, if indeed the pictures are only terribly because of some setting, do you know where that option is? I'm unable to find it. Also, you should know that although for some reason text appears clear here, its quite blockey on the actual phone...

There is nothing wrong with your screenshots, just looks like your viewing a mobile website that has gfx for low res devices, and scales them. Text looks sharp and believe it or not that uses pixels too
I've never seen any pictures that pixelated on my sg2...
Sure there are crisper reso screens out there, but the sg2 still looks fine.
Screenshots are no indication of display quality at all, it's just a bitmap of what *should* be displayed, not what it actually looks like on a particular screen (would need a macro photo for that).
Seriously, you can't use screen caps to compare screen sharpness. A screen cap on a SGSII will look the same as a SGSI as the image is captured before it reaches the AMOLED display.
That lens of yours looks dirty. Here is a photo that I took with my SGSII through a window and it is heaps sharper.

The sgs-II can make very good pictures
Yours look like it still has the protective plastic on the lens and a saved screenshot does not show nothing about the quality of the screen.

Remove the back cover, clean the lens like everyone has mentioned above and then put a small sellotape to cover both the flash and the camera from scratches.. put the cover back on once done.. you might want to repeat these once every alternate weeks depending on how you use your phone and where you place it, etc.

I cannot seem to find a thread on the internet regarding this exact question, nor do I see it addressed.
The Tegra 3 has the ability to output 2560x1600 via HDMI.
However, Android lacks the most basic HDMI settings. The only way I can view my TF Prime's screen on my computer monitor is by mirroring it. Meaning, I can only resolution it displays on my monitor is 1280x720 @ 60hz.
My monitor supports 1920x1080 @ 60hz. Now, playing a 1080P blu-ray on the prime? The screen shuts off, and actually outputs at 1080P! It's beautiful!
However, we do not have the setting to extend, or set a primary display to match a native resolution to 1080P displays. WHY!?
The hardware is ready to do this. Has anyone done this?
My prime is currently connected to a usb mouse and keyboard, and is hooked up to my monitor. But this blurry display is killing me....

Hello, well I'm in a worse boat than you. My device, acer 510 is 16:10 natively as well, but my display is 16:9 and the bottom is cropped off so I miss the ui buttons. I'm considering returning my device and getting an asus tf300 just because of this.
I've been discussing this on end in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26479317#post26479317
So to confirm, you are outputting to a 16:9 device and nothing is being cutoff? The prime 's native resolution is 16:10 aspect no? Are you using the scale/crop option? My understanding only asus provides an hdmi option like this currently.
I'm trying to find a way to change the bootup resolution, (I think it can be done by modifying the build.prop file, but no idea if this will work or will it take effect over hdmi).

you are getting cropped because of your TV, if you hook up to a 720p monitor you should get 100% of the screen. if you read the manual for your tv you will find that alot of them are not true 1:1 pixel wise. you will have the same issue hooking a computer up to a tv, but normally you can go into the video card properties on a computer and adjust things. android at this time outputs 720p with no adjustments and if you have a 1080p tv/monitor when playing movies it will do 1080p, but the ui is in 720p only at the moment.

He's saying it's a neat feature, and I guess it is, but I'd be happy with the scale and not the default crop of the acer. I've been assuming this is because my monitor is 16:9 but maybe it's by design and the same thing would happen on a 16:10 display. But I'm still curious as to why my monitor manual does not list 1280 x 720 as a valid resolution but goes on to mention it works with 720p video.

Crop and Scale are pretty minimalist options.
Scale for me, displays the full 1280x800 resolution and fills in most of the screen.
Crop lowers the resolution down to 1280x752 and the menu bar is completely gone.

The blur is probably because a phone's shape doesn't lend itself to taking a shot AND holding the phone still. Also, the sensor is teensy tiny, and it doesn't have a very fast "shutter speed". So, it's like taking pics with an SLR in dim light with a 1/30 second shutter: it's going to have motion blur w/o a stand. If you want crystal clear shots, use a vise/stand of some kind.
Maybe Canon's or Nikon's next pro-sumer DSLR will make/receive calls, texts, and play Angry Birds.
I use CameraZoomFX which lets me prop the phone and 'tell' the camera to take the picture hands-free. Those shots are always very clear. Handheld shots, not so much.

Oh will be nice to have a call with a 70-200 2.8 in hand
Okay, I'm lost....
Can anyone who still had pics prior to the leaks and NOW have one of the leaks post comparison pics? I mean seriously, as crisp as the photos are on GB, I can't see how there's such a need for enhancement to the razr's photo quality that it warrants a full thread. lol I'm still on a totally stock GB rom (anxiously biting my nails waiting for the update) and I'm ABSOLUTELY ASTONISHED at how crisp and detailed the camera's photos are.
Lol. Calls will be short with that lens on there. It would be funny though, seeing how huge people's arms get from holding a 4 kilo phone all day. They'd look like hermit crabs.
yeah its with ics leaks .204 let me look at my fb pictures maybe i got one with GB
i found one with GB
BTW - I've tried all of the "pro" camera apps available, and Camera FV-5 is easily the best one.
As to pictures on ICS vs GB, at least on .79, there isn't a huge change. It's all in the app you use.
The stock camera app on ICS seems to focus better prior to capture.
A good camera app should be able to take the same quality pic on GB as it would on ICS unless there was a flaw in the camera drivers under GB, which I don't think there was.
The Razr seems to have a decent sensor, but cheap / small optics. Don't get me wrong, it does take pretty good shots, but not like you'd see on a newer device with bigger, higher quality lenses. The sensor is only half of the battle, but people give the megapixel count all of their attention.
Some of the newer cams (like the OneX) have better optics and you can tell the difference right away. Plus a bigger lens helps keep noise down in dark shots.
I got to try out the stock camera on my DNA today.
The pics do it justice in high light situations. But noticing that they will do poorly on Zoomed and dim photos.
Here are unedited shots.

Any tips on enhancing it even more to get the most out of the DNA camera? any mods?
In low light conditions, switch the ISO to 200 and use flash, it will take decent to nice pics that way, especially if the object or person isn't that far away... It may be a little hard to see the object/person but I think it does well..
Nice pics
Hope it helps
You might also note that the default resolution w/ a widescreen (16:9) picture is only about 6 megapixels. If you switch to the 4:3 resolution, it will use the full resolution of the sensor and give you 8 megapixel pictures.

One thing to keep in mind if you do this is that if you want to use the front camera you should switch it back to 16:9 to get the most resolution out of that one.

Interesting tips didn't know that about the resolution.

Yeah, the full blown 8M pics deff do a lot better, not to mention they're friggin huge.

If you use dropbox, box, or bitcasa, you can automatically sync your pictures to your account. Take pic, auto upload, then delete off phone (if space is an issue.)

The 8 megapixel picture will produce a larger file, but does it actually add in terms of better sharpness and richer details? I am just worried that the relatively weak sensor (it's a cell phone after all) will not be able add much more useful data beyond the 6 default megapixels, just more interpolated fluff.

My understanding of the way the sensor is creating widescreen (16:9) pictures, is that it is cutting the top 10% and bottom 10% of the picture off. Setting the camera to 4:3 gathers data from the full sensor. I don't think it the interpolation is changing.
Another way to think about the 16:9 picture, is if you set the camera to take a 4:3 picture, and then printed the picture, you would have a picture with a 4:3 ratio. If you then cut the top 10% (or so) and the bottom 10% (or so) of the picture off of the print, you would then have the same 16:9 picture that you would have had if you had the camera set to the default setting. It doesn't really effect the 16:9 picture, but you aren't utilizing the full surface area of the sensor.
