Wireless tether wont work... - Motorola Photon 4G

So I was having issues with my phone and decided to start from scratch... I put it back to stock and then rooted it and installed wireless tether. I tried version 3.1 beta 14, 2.0.8 pre1 and 2.0.7 and neither of them worked. I start it up, get it running and when my laptop tried to connect, an error message pops up that says 'Windows was unable to connect.'
My next step was to install a new ROM. I installed MOF 2.3.5.ish from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1648297 - I get the same error as before.
The next step was to try a different tether app. I was able to use EasyTether and it worked using USB which is one step closer, but the wireless still doesn't work. When I try to do wireless, it gives me the message below:
Hotspot/Tethering Error
Unable to connect to data network; turning off Hotspot/Tethering. You may not be subscribed to the Hotspot service; please contact your phone company.
So am I stuck having to use USB to tether or can someone help? Let me know if you need any more info. Thank you.

Try FoxFi. Can't get it via Google Play because of the Sprint block but can download the apk from the website.
To get Wireless Tether for Root to work did you follow the correct procedure for the Photon (such as changing the settings, disabling/enabling data, etc.)?

I'll try FoxFi.
What settings need to be changed?

FoxFi works. Thank you for the suggestion.
I am still curious as to why the other apps don't work though.

Typically for Wireless Tether for Root app need to change device to Samsung Galaxy S & then setup method to Netd(master). Depending on the device you are wanting to connect the channel may need to be changed as well. Also, probably get IP errors so to connect in infrastructure.......kill your data connection...start tethering...restore data connection.
Other apps are easier. According to others Open Garden Wifi tether app works as well. FoxFi for me has been the easiest and connects my tablet without issue.

i think it has to do with the 2.3.5 update.
it used to work for me but no longer does and i believe sprint may have asked motorolla to close the loop hole.

Foxfi is easier to use then wifi tehter... im not sure about performance but very straight forward

I have it, and got it from the market, where I can still get it, but it doesn't run - I get the error mentioned above.

I also recently started getting the OP error. Everything was fine until I flashed 2.3.5.ish. I will try flashing back to stock and see... I think its the 2.3.5.

OTA uvji6 update, No Samsung Kies tether?

Just last night I tried to tether my vibrant to the computer via kies 1.5.3. And to my disbelief.. it simply says "This device is not supported by Tethering".
I have had this tethering to work many times before, the only change I can think of is that I recently got an OTA update for the gps fix and now everything stopped working??!
Anyone knows how to make this work again?... and please without rooting the phone if possible
Thanks,
Tim

Look at Mobile AP. or there are many alternatives to tethering without rooting your phone.

Wifi sharing without root? (Solved)

Ok I'm trying to figure this out sorry if this has been covered before I did a search and couldn't find the awnser to my problem.
This is my situation. My gf does not want to root her phone, But wants to use her phone while I'm gone to connect to her phones web.
I looked up on google and tried to download kies 1.5.3 because I found a method that allows you to connect via usb. Well i cant find the download at all for kies 1.5.3 So what I need is either to connect via usb or wifi sharing app.
So could anyone that either has the kies downloaded share it please?
Or, could you share the apk for wifi sharing please?
Thanks in advance.
I know there is an app in the market that says you can use it to tether your phone's data connection to a computer or whatever. It is $9.99 though. It does claim to be able to work without root. I have not used it, but wanted to let you know I have seen it. If you try it and it works, let us know, I am curious.
Try it right away and if it does not work, then you can get your refund within 15 minutes.
Thank you, You wouldn't know what the name is would you?
The specific one I am thinking of is called EasyTether. however I just put "tether" into the Market search and it brings up a few, some free some not, that claim to work without root. The easytether app even has a free "lite" version you can try out.
Good luck!
Ok sweet downloading it now. I'll post back to let you guys know how it works.
Thank you very much!
Ok, At the momment I'm using easytether to post this. I must say it works just as stated. Thank you once again I'm going to continue to test it out.
Hey that's awesome. My wife also does not want her phone rooted, so will use this if she needs to tether. Thanks for being the guinea pig!
Cheers
Hey guys Easy tether works great. Thats what I used before I rooted and installed custom roms on my phone months ago.
Edit: you said wifi sharing, Easy Tether is usb tethering which is much better because wifi tethering kills you battery quick.

To WiFi tether without root you're going to need a firmware that has the MobileAP application already installed. That will either require Odin, or root so that's out. Other than that you can easily usb tether without root. Don't even need special software if the system is running XP, Vista, or 7. See link below

The Q&A section is his friend too, which is why he posted here. He was provided assistance, and followed up on the help he was given advising us of the result. This thread topic, for now, has been resolved. No further googling is necessary.
I did find this in a search but, I was unable to connect with kies 2.0. I tried to find kies 1.5.3 but everywhere I looked I had to pay or do a long sign up to obtain it. Samsungs site only offers 2.0 which wouldn't allow my gfs phone to connect. I finally downloaded kies mini 1.0. I was able to connect finally but, the mini version doesn't have any option to tether via usb. She has used it most of the night and it works great. So at this point till she let's me root her phone and install cwm and a custom Rom,
This method is working great. For 9.99 I really can't complain as it works wonderfully for her. Once again thanks guys for all your help.

Edit: Just to make it clear the phone is being used to usb tether internet. The laptop at that time can now produce a wifi signal thus connecting other devices through wifi.

[Q] Help!! I am having Rooting Issues

Hey I am in need of some help.
Yesterday I decided that I need to root my ATT Motorola Atrix 4G in order to be to able to install third-party software and have the option of checking the unknown sources option and have full functionality of the phone.
So, I started by using the program Superoneclick and I followed all the instructions to the tee. During the rooting or shell rooting process it would freeze up at the 'running psneuter' and then loops and give me this message 'If it keeps looping, try disabling USB debugging now'. I did as it told me and it did not work. I tried the process over and over again for about 2-3 hours and still got the same issues.
So, after hours of researching and trying Superoneclick. I decided to use the Gingerbreak.exe found at briefmobile.com. So that worked I think because in Titanium backup it says it is rooted. What puzzles me is that the phone is supposedly 'rooted' but I don't have the unknown sources option to be checked. Also the superusers icon showed up but I do not even know what to do with that.
I would like assistances or advice when it comes to properly rooting my ATT Motorola Atrix 4G.
Thank you to anyone that can help.
my device doesnt show an option box to enable or disable sideloading but i can still sideload. i am pretty sure that i read the guy that made the hack didnt bother with the check box
also, if it doesnt work for you there is an app you can download from android central called the side loading wonder machine (or something like that). i have used it too and it works great when you are connected to your pc
I want to be able to install produces without having to keep connecting my phone to the computer.
Have you actually tried to install non market apps since rooting? As I said earlier, my phone doesn't indicate that I can side load but I can
Yes and it tells me i can't install it because i need to check that box. Which leads me to believe that the phone is not truly rooted. What do you think?
Being rooted and being able to side load are two different things. It sounds like you are rooted already so now you just have to enable side loading. Read the this thread carefully and see if it solves your issue
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016060
Thanks...what will this do exactly? and will i be able to receive the updates from att for the atrix still?
I did everything you did and it worked wonderfully thanks.
One more questions. How come I can install over the air from the market when i am on my pc? Why do i have to do it from the phone directly?

Is your question that you can or cannot use your pc to download to your phone over the air? You should be able to use your pc to push an app onto your phone from the market without wires.

When i am on the market website on my pc and i try to push an app to my phone it doesnt work. I have to go into the market store from my phone in order to get the app.
Just curious, what does this have to do with rooting?

MirrorLink just won't work

I am using a Galaxy S9+ running the latest version of SoldierROM (PIE, rooted) and I have been trying to use MirrorLink for a while now but it just refuses to work.
When I connect my phone to my car and choose MirrorLink, a couple of prompts pop-up that I accept and then the certificate fails to download.
I have tried updating to Android 10 and doing that, but the certificate still fails. Is it because I am rooted?
Someone posted about the same issue on XDA, but none of the solutions posted worked for me.
Thanks, guys!

Hi, try this:
Go to the app mirrorlink 1.1 and there to the storage. Here you Clear the data and the cache. Then connect once again your mobile with the car. The should ask for download again new fresh certificates. Not every time it works for every app, but then start again.
Hope it will help!

Thanks a lot for your reply. Unfortunately, I tried that many times without success, so I am assuming it might have to do with my device always being flagged as rooted even when I restore everything to stock.
I have the same phone with the same problem... did you manage to fix it?
Same issue over here. It would be nice to have a fix for this.
Now that Samsung wisely decide to drop support for MirrorLink, is there any work around this?
I have Note 9 and I just bought my frist car. It was jaw droping to see how bad samsung is! I just connect my phone I see certificate download error for MirrorLink 1.1.
