Restoring CWM Backup on another phone. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an LG Optimus One. I've bought an HTC Sensation and want all my apps on the new phone with data. I was wondering if it is dangerous to restore just data on my Sensation from a CWM Backup made on my LG. Or do I need to use Titanium Backup for this job?

Use Titanium back up. A clock work back backs up things that are device spicific and will cause issues

[Q] can I restore backup on new phone?

I'm getting a replacement Tbolt and I was wondering if, after I make a backup on this phone, I could restore that backup on the new phone? This would be after I re-root and whatnot of course.
I would just use this SD card to restore from

i would say you should be able to since you can on the OG droid... but... not sure if anything is different with HTC
I just did. As long as your using your original SD card on your replacement.

Yeah you should be able to just fine. I haven't done it, but I cant think of any reason it wouldn't work. Of course, I'm assuming you talking about a full backup with ClockworkMod Recovery.

Nandroids from my old phone?

I received a replacement phone from Sprint. My first 3d was hboot 1.3, my replacement is a 1.5 that has been unlocked via the HTC method.
Is it safe to run back ups from the old phone?

Everything I ever read when I had an Evo 4G said not to....things like it could hose your 4G... I suppose as long as you didn't restore the wimax partition, but idk for sure....I would wait till a few more of the guys chime in...
Toby is in HR which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.....
No don't. It may brick your phone

Short answer: I agree and disagree. It all depends on which partitions you're restoring from the backup.
Long answer: If you restore the /system partition, /data partition and boot (kernel) partition, there should be no issues, assuming the hardware is the same and the previous kernel/system supported the current devices hardware.
If you're looking at attempting to restore/flash a radio from a previous device, I wouldn't touch this as this *could* brick the device or cause other issues.
Worse case, when restoring system, data and boot, the device doesn't boot, meaning kernel isn't compatible with new device hardware, reboot into recovery and flash a stock kernel. Or 2nd worse case, the system boot loops during the animation, might have to wipe /data and only be able to restore system and kernel (assuming their custom from some ROM, otherwise stock would be the same as already loaded on the device).
Hope that helps clarify!

Turn EVO lte into media player for kid.

I'm upgrading and looking to give my phone to my kid to replace his turd ipod that took a crap after 3 months after being replaced under warranty. I basically want it to have the play store and wifi no phone capabilities or messaging. Basically a galaxy player. Amy help would be greatly appreciated. I'm rooted with soff currently running viper rom.

I did the same thing for my son. I just flashed a Stock rooted Rom and uninstalled any app that gave him access to recovery and removed Titanium Backup. He's happy as can be. He uses Text Plus or something like that I bought to allow him to txt over wifi. That's all I did

Almost 200 views and nobody has any input on what apps can be deleted without a negative side effect.

Maybe you could PM an active dev and ask them what apps/system files you could safely and easily delete? You basically want the phone in airplane mode all the time.... So remove the phone app and not make the phone search for signal right??
I know there's a ROM or two in the OG Evo development section that serve this exact purpose....
Sorry I couldn't be of more help

I think sense 5 has a "kid" mode, but I don't know it it was removed, then use Titanium and freeze the phone and mms, and turn on airplane mode, use a custom launcher to hide apps... Can't think of anything else... Remember that bluetooth doesn't work on sense 5...

OK
So there's a post in Evo 4G Android Development by frickinjerms about his ROM that was made for inactive devices
He says he removed RIL libs and bin files to prevent the phone from knowing what to do with the radios. He also removed dialer, contacts, messaging, calendar, email, etc
He did a lot more too I'm sure but that's a quick easy rundown...
Thank you, I'll have to check that out.

Just keep in mind that if you remove Phone/mms apk then they will not be able to use those features in a app like Text Plus that allows them to send receive texts and free phone calls.

I personally see no need in removing those features. But to each their own

Check out an app called "kids place - parental control".

Selling my EVO LTE Wipe advice requested

My EVO 4G LTE is rooted and running a stock ROM. I have TWRP installed also.
I need to wipe all of my personal info, but I want to double check the best process to make sure I don't lose root or screw anything up!
Do I simply reboot into recovery and select factory wipe? Do I wipe all caches and internal memory first?
Thanks
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Factory reset should be good enough and would be like getting a brand new phone.
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
From a Sense ROM, use dialer code ##786#, select menu, then reset. If you're selling it with an SD card, just format the card and be done with it.

HELP: No Service!

I recently installed Carbon onto my XT912. It was a clean install, and no problems occurred. Just today however, my phone is now showing no service when I load to system 2 (where I installed Carbon). When I load to System 1 I have full service. If someone could point me in the right direction for troubleshooting I would greatly appreciate it.
Could be a bad flash or. Something is interrupting your service try reinstalling again and see if it helps let. Me know

Everything was working fine until one day when I was low on battery and out of Data. I decided to only use 2G networks to both save battery and not use data. After that day I unchecked that box yet it still says that it's searching for service. Is there a solution without having to re-flash my ROM? I don't want to lose all my text messages and such.
Also, I get this blue triangle now above my cell status. What's up with that?

There are apps to backup texts. A flash could help i guess.
