[Q] can I restore backup on new phone? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm getting a replacement Tbolt and I was wondering if, after I make a backup on this phone, I could restore that backup on the new phone? This would be after I re-root and whatnot of course.
I would just use this SD card to restore from

i would say you should be able to since you can on the OG droid... but... not sure if anything is different with HTC

I just did. As long as your using your original SD card on your replacement.

Yeah you should be able to just fine. I haven't done it, but I cant think of any reason it wouldn't work. Of course, I'm assuming you talking about a full backup with ClockworkMod Recovery.

No service?

My friends vibrant which is rooted with eugenes macnut13, locked which means he has t mobile, won't get service. Like an idiot he took it to t mobile and the lady there factory reseted it, didn't help. Gave him a new sim card, still no service. Sup he gave to me and I figured it could be the rom so I flashed axura 2.1, still no service. Any suggestions before I odin it then tell him to take back to t mobile?

I had similar problem and it turned out it was defective sim cards and also there are multiple types of sim cards now that T Mobile is putting out and not all work in every device. Tech rep told me this and I found it to be true. Perhaps checking with TMobile about type of sim card might be a possible solution.
Ok thanks. Also does anyone know if there is a stock rom thats flashable through clock work instead of having to use odin, because I'm not bricked but would like to return to complete stock, searched and couldn't find one just wondering if it exists.

Seriously, odin nothing to fear its so easy as long as you have the Samsung drivers installed and you use the correct provided files. You should give it a go. I have done it countless times and it has never failed. You can even watch a video on YouTube on how to do it.

Restoring CWM Backup on another phone.

I have an LG Optimus One. I've bought an HTC Sensation and want all my apps on the new phone with data. I was wondering if it is dangerous to restore just data on my Sensation from a CWM Backup made on my LG. Or do I need to use Titanium Backup for this job?

Use Titanium back up. A clock work back backs up things that are device spicific and will cause issues

Same problem with mine. I unrooted prior to this update. Tried 3 times on 4g, 3g and Wi-Fi. Any thoughts on this?

Intrepid, in your case, have you disabled any system apps? Re-enable them and try again.

No apps have been disabled. Its pretty much stock.

Try a factory reset first....That will make sure you're bone stock.
Thanks. Ill give that a shot in a few minutes.

Accepted the update this morning... went smoothly. Took forever to download though, think the servers were slammed with everybody doing the same thing. I am bone stock, for now.

same issue here, trying hard reboot!
will keep you posted
Just curious. If you are having this problem, did you perform your download over 4G or WiFi? I have no clue about what is causing this problem, but if you were on 4G perhaps you can try downloading again using WiFi (or visa-versa)? Yes, I know this shouldn't matter. But it is something to try.
I was downloading through wifi.

I just did a factory reset including internal media and the SD card, downloaded the update and tried to install but got the triangle and android on the screen about halfway through. Any thoughts?
Did a hard reset, wiped user data and that seemed to do it
If you are rooted, uninstall bootstrap or safestrap if you have those. For me safestrap was breaking the update. Thxkbai!
Just did another hard reset with no luck getting through the update. Willing to entertain any suggestions...
How far do you get?

This may seem like an odd suggestion, but if you keep failing to install the OTA pushed to your phone, try flashing the file from the root of your SD card.
About a quarter of the way through. It showed a triangle with the android on the screen when it stopped.

TWRP Not Seeing Backups

I go to restore, click on my backup folder (created when I backed up via TWRP), and there is nothing in the folder.
I reboot phone, go to my file explorer and the backups are there. Perfectly there in the same folder I tried to restore from earlier.
I am sure I am navigating to the same exact folder in TWRP that I am viewing in Android.

Make sure twrp is mounting the correct sd card. I'm 99.9% sure that's what it is.

I tried both. External and internal. I'll try again though.

I happens to me every time I switch/flash another rom. I would just keep messing around with it and eventually it would work. I think it's a bug in TB Goodluck
That's exactly what I did. Flashed CM 10, went to restore Venom and nothing. I got it working now. Just rebooted a few times. Thanks all.

cm9 question

i installed cm9 full throttle on my razr. i do not have my phone number backed up through google. they are backed up through verizon. well when i installed the cm9 which is really cool i do not have access to my verizon backup assistance. i need it cause thats where all my contacts are. thanks.
Have you tried downloading it from the play store yet? If that doesn't work you may have to go back to your non safe side. Restore your contracts, export to sd. Then go back to full throttle and import from sd card. I'm pretty sure the CM9 contacts has that option.
