I am currently using the ASUS Transformer Prime and it has an amazing feature: support for microSD card with exFAT partition (allowing for files larger than 4 GB). Moreover, the internal storage (using MTP) also allows for files larger than 4 GB. Unfortunately, none of my phones (mostly from HTC) has this feature. Is there any phone currently available has support for exFAT microSD card?
The Samsung Galaxy S III does.
It may not be out now but in less then a week so not a long wait.

May I ask where you get this info? From what I have read, I don't see anyone mentioning exFAT support on the Galaxy S3.

the official launch event I believe and the fact that the firmware has leaked and I personally extracted the exfat kernel modules from the ram disk

I cannot find a solid answer to this question.
Say for example, the new EVO 4g LTE, or the SGIII
Even though they support 32gb SD cards, can they support higher if the card format (hc/xc) is correct?
The Galaxy S2 can support the 64GB SDXC card but I'm not shore about the EVO.

Cool. But I didn't know if it was absolutely incompatible, or if it is compatible but not recommended so that might be why they don't advertise it...?
Android phones do not support the default file system of SDXC cards (cards >32 GB) which is exFAT. However they will format these cards back to FAT32 and you'll be able to access the whole card as the partition limit for FAT32 is 2TB. There are limitations such as slower transfer speeds and loss of >4GB file support. You could try NTFS but I'm not sure how compatibility is for that in Android.
First post of mine, sorry if it is an obvious answer
The support to a file-system other than fat32 is kernel related and it is not tied to android itself.
For example, Doomkernel (in I don't get wrong) has inbuilt support for more file-systems.
It just depends on the devs and their will to patch the kernel in such way.
I am a user of Nokia N900 too and, in such environment, that is Maemo, the power kernel has actually been patched like that. By the way, according to the N900 user's handbook, there shouldn't have been support for sd card bigger than 16 Gb, but it was not true.

It's not advertised as those cards just recently came out and usually would need to undergo testing before manufacturers can guarantee compatability.

Looks like there is a 64G micro SD by Sandisk. Will be good for my collections of lossless music.

Many claim that it works even on old Android devices. Just wonder if any Galaxy Player owners tried this yet?
Update:
Finally got one. Similar to the experience of other users, the player will think that the SD card is corrupted when mounted for the first time. Once you format it as instructed, it will work fine.
I have attached a couple of screenshots below for those who are interested. Two of the screenshots are benchmark of 64G Sandisk (Class 6) vs 32G Lexar (Class 10).

I think I read somewhere that the SDXC I cards are somewhat compatible with older devices but not fully. That "I" degignation is new and not supported by older SDHC devices. In older devices, the "I" cards would work at a slower speeds, I believe. In this case, Class 6... I think I have seen SDXC I cards being advertised as 50Mb/sec read speeds... at class 6, that would drop do avg. 6Mb/sec... so you loose the speed the "I" standard brings but the larger capacity always sounds good. In saying so, I have not tried these. I am however, very tempted...

I'd imagine it will work just fine. You just won't be able to take advantage of the "advanced speed" aspect.
If your interested in it, just purchase it with Paypal and return it if it doesn't work. I'd give it a try, but I'm fine with my 32GB + 16GB cards at this time.

That's a good news. I will probably take the plunge and report back. As for speed, class 6 should be sufficient for music storage. I used to use class 4 for that purpose, it was a bit pain to load the music onto it for the first time but playing music from it is not an issue.
Like Galaxy Player only supports 32Gb, sorry for my English
Works fine on my 5.0, formatted to FAT32, speeds around class 6 using r14 kernel on international
I am using one on the 5.0 U.S version.

It would be great news if it did.

Hi Ryzir.
I'd be interested if you could explain exactly what you did to make a 64GB microSD card work on a stock 4.0...?
I've tried formatting a 64GB Sandisk microSD card to FAT32 and my 4.0 doesn't recognise the card at all...
When I first inserted the card into the 4.0 it came up with some error (corruption?) and I selected format. Been working perfectly ever since.
I should note that I'm in the US. I believe there are slight differences between US and INT version.
Frustrating

I'm using what I think is the US version or at least with US language...still no joy. The card isn't recognised at all.
Unless you can offer more information looks like I'll have to continue without...or perhaps see if I can buy a UK based one....
The only other thing I can think of to suggest is to try and format with SD Formatter (Google it I can't post link yet)
FWIW I'm using SanDisk - Mobile Ultra 64GB microSDXC Class 6 Memory Card (Model: SDSDQY-064G-A11A)
32 class 10?
Hi, I have question that is slightly off topic but will a 32 gig. class 10 work in YP-G70 Us version?
No joy

:-( Unfortunately doesn't look like any kind of reformatting is going to make my Galaxy S Wifi 4.0 compatible with a 64GB microSD card...
Oh well I guess I'll have to way until they (or someone else) provides an alternative device with appropriate support.

Did you get the sandisk one mentioned above? And have you considered the possibility of a "bad out of box" situation? they can happen especially with electronics this small, I had a Kingston DDR laptop memory (best in the business IMHO) that was "bad out of box" so it is possible.
Sandisk card works fine elsewhere...

I did use a Sandisk card and I've managed to use it in another device (an Android tablet) without a problem.
I'm really very confused..I can only assume that I'd need to root my device perhaps...or...well I don't know. It's really very annoying and frustrating.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

I doubt rooting would make a difference, but at the same time there's no reason not to. (i had mine rooted within 6 hours of getting it out of the mailbox, and I had NEVER touched android before that moment) Maybe try rooting and flashing a popular custom ROM, Like Klins R5 and the Terrasilent kernel, at the very least doing the terrasillent (or any kernel available) along with rooting will give you the ability to use voodoo sound, and that alone is worth doing it for.
thats just weird, it reading in the other android means it should be good to go in the player.
Ok. Im not a dev so I cant manage this myself. I was digging in the forums and based on what I found I was curious if this is even possible. Fist however im going to list a few facts I have found. Mostly obvious ones.
1. Galaxy Note will not support exFat or NTFS unless you jump threw a few hoops like this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1724078
2. Galaxy S III has native exFat file support only on the stock roms. That makes it based on the stock kernel.
3. exFat or NTFS is a better choice in format simply because to dont run in to the file size limitations as Fat32.
4. exFat or NTFS is much more stable on cards larger than 32gigs for a bunch of technical reasons im not going to get in to.
Soooooooooo . This all started because I have a 64gig Class 1U (Faster than class 10) micro sd card. I was trying to figure out how to get it to work in my Note. The only viable option is to force a format to Fat32 and pray it stays stable. Slows the read wright speed down as well so kinda defeats the purpose of having a fast card.
Is it at all possible to port the Galaxy S III's native exFat file support to the Note? Or is it possable to have a script enable NTFS support at the kernel?
Thoughts, suggestions , and guidance please.
PS: Search button Trolls. The above info was pealed from various forums while setting the search button ablaze. If your gonna mention it then find an answer to this first and make me look like a fool the proper way. Show me what I missed I dare ya lol :silly:
Some additional info.
The op to the thread I linked did make an app. Auto mounts ntfs. I couldn't get his app to work for me but did a search for "ntfs" in store and find a few more apps like it.
After a dev cash wipe app started working. So that's one way to rig it.

have exFAT support on my TF101, would love to see it on my GNote... a Kernel thing im told by Dev's... also, since it isnt free, most dev's wont touch it...
Theres an app with NTFS support by paragon (with OEM exFAT support, not for regular users yet), but like most things, I would definitely prefer a built-in kernel-level support for exFAT...
BTW, exFAT over any other type anyday for me... (windows compatible format at least), blows NTFS out of the water
are there any good Android phones that support exFat or NTFS file system on the SD card right out of the box without rooting?

I think some Samsung phones do. The Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 definitely support exFat out of the box, maybe more.
Unfortunately I very seriously doubt you will find a phone that natively supports NTFS.
exFat would do, I have more than 40 000 audio files in a folder, fat32 would not hold that much.

Huh, really? I wasn't aware this was a limitation of FAT32. I thought the 4GB file size limit was the one most people cared about.
4GB limit is also a concern but not major for me, I am a large audio collection for language learning.

not sure I agree with that?
People used to say that about the 64gb, but is completely possible. Just had to use a computer to format it in Fat32, or possibly exFat. So, I'm trying to find answers to my question.
If you can explain reasons that make sense, would be a big help to know for sure. I am technically minded, so, I'm sure you will not be saying anything above my knowledge level of understanding.
I found 1 post that seemed to indicate that it is possible. Uncertain of weither or not it is true or not, reason I'm asking here.

Well, I don't think that's going to work tab2 doesn't supports 128GB Micro SD card ! I would say i would work if you have put a 32Gb SD card over it but 128GB SD card now way it shouldn't work over the the tab2 or tab3 there is no any need on trying such things out. If you search for the specs then its clearly written over the specs that it's expandable upto 64GB not more than that !
possibility 128gb might work?

Accually, original factory specs said 32gb, but, at the time TAB 2 was created there wasn't any such thing as a 64gb to test with the TAB 2 to be sure, and if there was, its likely not to support it, because they probably knew it wasn't going to work directly, instead of a workaround way.
Its been a while since the 64gb microSD been around, and well known among several website postings that its about 100 percent possibly to use them in a TAB 2 tablet.
I'm already found strong evidence of 128gb MicroSD to work in a TAB 3 7.0. I've come across one note that seem to say that it works in a TAB 2, but I have doubts of that statement. I've already came across website that was selling 128gb microSD for 70.00 bucks, and still available last time I checked. There is another website that has a compatability list of devices that the 128gb microSD will work in. ((In some, or most cases of those listed, its quite possible you may need to format it in a format that's normally not used in the larger size microSD card, using a computer to format it, in order for the microSD card to be recognize, such as the 64gb microSD card to work in the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (P3100). ))

PS - one more added note, I'm well aware of the spec limits of the TAB 2, which is 32gb, which is why I was asking if its "possible" in some sort of way to make it work, such as the case of using a 64gb microSD card. 128gb microSD cards has only been on the market recently.
Here is the weblink to the compatability list I was speaking of, which also list the TAB 3.
