Ive got me a 2nd XPS and its newer than my old one.
My old one is 12W09 - AAAB and the new one is 12W09 - ACAC
Now my old one is fine, but the new one's screen has quite clearly got a yellow-ish tint to it. My old one shows the "About Phone" screen in nice white text for example whereas the new one is more yellow.
I thought this issue was fixed in the newer phones and was only an issue with the older ones? I was lucky with my first one as I did not have this issue.
So confused and sad

Why the heck are you creating another thread when there is a huge thread about this issue!

I will be purchasing one soon, but i see alot of problems! Is this just because no one posts "everything is good" and most posts are just going to be "mine broke"?
including, leds/trackball light, broken pixels, screen gap etc
also is there any thing in common between the broken ones? Ex mostly white ones are breaking
and does htc offer a warranty at all?, i found the hero for 580 usd w/ free shipping but no return policy/warranty...this is scaring me!
Should i get white with teflon coating or brown which i sort of like more?
also i plan on rooting the hero, and i want to be clear on if you can put it back to normal after rooting if i have to return to htc.
one last thing, a few posts said "mine died"... is this totally dead? will they be able to see if it was rooted in this case?
Sorry for the long post!
ps, please post color and (maybe model number???) and if its broken or not

Mine is an unlocked HTC-branded brown one. No hardware problems so far (2 weeks).

Problems with build-quality (screen gap) seems isolated to some batches of operator-branded phones.

The brown one also has a rubbery-like surface. Not sure if its teflon, but its definitely not the usual hard&glossy surface that most phones have.

It shouldn't be a problem. I'd also expect HTC to reload a "known good image" on any returned phone before they run any form of diagnostics test.
thanks very much!
No problems with mine either..going on two weeks, white unlocked from clove.co.uk.
No problem here
all good here... lovin my hero!!!
Mine is still perfectly fine - no issues with build/hardware at all.
personally
before i bought my htc hero
i read reviews
most of them having a go at this n that and forums complaining about broken this n that
personally and through experience
reviews are just dumb they pick out on anything and everything i suppose thats what reviews are for but some of the stuff ive read on hero are really lame
and broken hardware etc comes to one result

well i just have to point out something. I bought my phone a week ago and till a few days ago, me too i thought that i was a happy hero owner until i read issues about the led thing and checked my phone. I do not know if i have the headphone prob as i never checked it out. What i want to say is that some issues are present and you wont notice them unless u pay attention to them.
Do u want to say that gap issues between the screen and more than 30 ppl complaining about issues with led, trackball and headphones ( probably more but some of us do not know it yet) are due to the fact that we dont take care of our phones????
I'm gonna jump right in, and just say. i've had my hero for 2 weeks and loving it.
This is my first android phone, so I took a little getting used to, think the missus is getting fed up with me checking forums and stuff. But all in all I am extremly happy with my Hero.
I use it everyday for:
E-mail
Facebook
Calls
Messages
USB Modem
Surfing
RSS
Podcasts
Performs better than my Ipod Touch ever did, and I almost never have to hook it up to the laptop... Loving IT!
so far mine works fine (1 week). the gap is a problem with some branded phones but mine (T-Mobile Germany "2G Touch") has no gap. the problems with the headphones and LED seem to be software related, since there is a workaround to manually activate the headphone again.
oh and BTW I <3 Hero. best phone i ever had.
got 2 on first release from orange (graphite), 6 weeks ago, 1 for me and 1 for me gf.
no screen gap issues, no dead pixels on arrival, but i had one appear after 2 weeks, right down bottom right of phone, extremely small and never notice it at all unless im on dead pixel detect.
gfs phone hasnt any dead pixels as of yet.
not a single other problem like leds or headphones.
2 totally happy customers here.
Totally happy with mine, no hardware problems so far.
Best phone I've ever had especially with how much I
Like to mess with stuff.
I was happy only one day. If I use longer (about 10 min) my Hero screen starts flashing. If I make reset, everything is ok for some period. I hope it's not serious problem.
I had the LED issue for a while, but just updated to the new rom, and they are back, so this could be a software, not hardware issue
Oh, and love love love the phone
I have read many posts saying that the new ROM update will fix LED and Headphone jack issues.
I just bought a phone on eBay myself, haven't had the chance to play around with it too much since I need to change my plan beforehand, but I have turned it on and look around and everything is fine. It is a White Unlocked one. I must say, the Teflon coating is like nothing I've ever felt before on a phone, it just makes it feel like a million bucks!
But besides the color, which is up to you, I would say get the phone! There is always a 1 year manufacturer warranty, even if the seller doesn't offer you one of their own.
An official HTC update will be coming out VERY soon if you don't like the idea of loading up a custom ROM (although it is highly recommended as there are added quirks such as root access).
I rooted my X10a to R2BA026 a while back using the main rooting method.
It looks like there's a possibility I may have to get my phone serviced or replaced by Rogers, as my screen has started to display yellow tint along the edges when viewing light/white backgrounds.
If I do end up needing to get it serviced/replaced, I figure it'll likely be best if I return the phone to a Rogers ROM in order to avoid any issues with it being rooted.
How would I go about doing so?
1. Download the flash/unbrick tool:
http://hotfile.com/dl/44983907/9d54b5e/XIOFUB.rar.html
2. Download the decrypted Rogers Rom (R1FA014)
http://hotfile.com/dl/43225669/598add6/a_WWE_R1FA014_DEK.zip.html
Follow the instructions in the Flash/unbrick HowTo file.
About the yellow tint, where exactly are you noticing it? Is it the top where the ear piece is? or the bottom where the keys are? Or the left side or right side?
If you are going to service it with Rogers, can you update the status for us? I'm on Rogers and i THINK i see some yellow tint issues as well.
I resurrected an old thread on the yellow tint on the X10 General forum here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=718196.
As I stated there, the yellowing is most noticeable on the bottom of the screen, though I can also see it on the right side of the screen.
Alright.. when you take it in, please update the status for us!
Thanks!

I might hold off a bit, as the tint is less prominent now than it was a few hours ago. May become more visible as the phone warms up, as I was tethering with Barnacle when I noticed it, and then disabled Barnacle for a while before checking it just now.
If it's anything like my old iPAQ with Rogers last year, once you get an RMA number from Rogers, they send you a new unit, and give you a few weeks to ship the defective unit back. A good process, as you're not without phone for any period of time.
I'll keep you updated either way.
Thanks..
But don't they just ship your phone to repair rather than giving you a new unit?
When I dealt with Rogers Tech on my defective HTC Dream they sent out a refurb of the Dream with a UPS call tag to either take the defective phone (boxed and placed in the shipping bag) to a UPS store or have the UPS come pick it up.
Pretty simple really and you're not without a phone.

Yeah, that's what they did with my iPAQ when I reported to them that the USB connector had become so loose I could no longer charge the phone.
I have the same issue with my X10. Rogers sent me two replacements but they both had the yellow/white blotches along the bottom of the screen. Looks similar to when you apply pressure to an LCD screen. It's only visible on white backgrounds for the most part. I've just decided to live with it, although it certainly annoys me at times. Not to much else they were willing to do for me at that point.

Sucks, but good to know.
In which case, I'll probably hold out for a bit.
I sent my rooted phone back to rogers and they didn't give me any problems. I asked one of the customer service guys and he said android phones are meant to be open source, so it it's fine if it is rooted. lol.
Good to know.
Just to let you guys know, my friend got a new white X10 from Rogers store a couple days ago. Her X10 already has the new R2BA020 firmware on it so it should be the new batches. The new X10 that she got also have the weird wavy pattern on the bottom or 'tint' issue.
So I am convinced that pretty much all X10 are like that..
or try this method its easier and it works. The flash tool bricked my phone.

When I got my Vibrant shortly after release the screen had a blue color cast to it. Many others had similar problems. Is this issue still prevalent in phones that have been manufactured in the last month or so?
I'm thinking about trying to press T-Mobile for a replacement Vibrant due to the GPS always being awful, and I don't want another blue screen. I already traded up my original for one that had a more color-balanced screen.
Thanks!

I recently got my wife one and it does not have the blue tint like mine does (mine was bought on release day), but I cant say for sure if thats true for all of the new ones.
Hi Everyone,
This is my first post on XDA Forum So Sorry If I make any mistake.
I have a problem with my 2nd HTC HD2 which I bought today. The phone is a brand new one.
The screen looks that there is a yellow tint. The color white is definitely not a neutral white. It looks like a warm white color.
Is there is any software or fix, which I can install to solve this problem?
I search the forum but I cannot find anything to my problem.
ROM version is 3.14.479.2
I wish you a nice day
Best regards
If you bought it from a shop. Take it back.
Although if not it may still be under warranty.
You could try updating the ROM. (I take it its not 3.14 at the moment.)
Although this does seem like a hardware issue.
Thanks,
Al
I'm here to find out if anyone knows if there is a software difference between the White and Black versions of the Samsung Fascinate.
I used to have the Black Fascinate and I loved it, but after it met a terrible fate I found myself in the ownership of a White one which I am coming to loathe more and more each day.
So, are there any known software (non-aesthetic) variances between the White and Black versions of the Samsung Fascinate? I couldn't help but notice that certain things I could change on my black one, I can't on my white. The white one lags more, freezes more, randomly closes apps more, and just all around is a considerably worse product. I can't tell if I just got a crappy one or if there is some sort of difference.
I also couldn't help but notice that rooting methods that worked with my black one don't work at all with the white one, which is what made me curious if there was a software difference.
Thanks in advance for any help, I looked around for hours, but couldn't manage to find anything. If I happen to be super dense and it is out there, I do apologize, I really didn't wanna clog up the forum with a new thread, but this is the only place I know to turn to for help on stuff like this.
I also apologize if I put this in the wrong section or something, this seemed like the logical place to put a question like this...
EDIT: Also, if it matters, here's the info from the phone, I don't have a black one anymore to cross reference them.
Hardware I500.04
Model SCH-I500
Firmware 2.2.1
Baseband S:i500.04 V.ED04
Kernel 2.6.32.9
Build SCH-I500.ED04
Don't know if any of that is important or not.

I've had black and wife has white. I haven't noticed a single difference between our phones beyond back casing.
Had the white before replacing with a black, then a Charge
I had the white Fascinate before getting a black replacement which had the freezes, lag, everything you said, lol. I sent it back, kept the white one, and got a replacement Charge on 7/26/2011. 4G where I live is extremely fast, I'm constantly getting 22 to 25 mbs down and 5-8 mbs up! So glad I replaced the white one now though, because awhile before replacing it with the Charge, my touchscreen wasn't working right, wifi was stuck at obtaining IP adress, 3g stopped working, even after I reactivated and updated my roaming capabilities and the phone plain old sucked.
