This is ridiculous. It's taking like 2 mins to load Google?
I've already done the proxy removal and I'm only getting like 100 kbps. What's going on here??

That's about right for Sprint 3G. It's within the 3G range for Sprint, anyway.
After removing the proxies I went from like 500kbps to 1.3mbps in my house...1-2 bars...sometimes 3....
Today I was in an area that was previously almost a deadzone, no bars but no roaming.....I got 1.5mbps-2.1mbps!??? It was phenomenal. The 4G in that area only netted my like 7mbps, even though 4g in my area (which I cannot get in my house) I've gotten up to 18mbps before.
Call sprint, report deadzones. If nobody tells them they won't do anything.

If you live in the boonies.
It's fast in California.
I live in NYC.
Just did a speed test and got 11 kbps. Pretty sure NYC isn't in the boonies.
Live in Chicago burbs, as I type this, roaming alert came on
On my.EVO 4G don't think I ever saw the roam alert. On this 3VO it roams few times a day. That NEVER used to happen.
3G service has hit the ****ter lately.

3G service when I had my Lotus and Moment were actually impressive for a mobile device...I was surprised.
3G Service the day I got my Evo4G was VERY impressive....and it just declined steadily from there. For a while I thought it was me screwing with the phone too much....but 2 and 2, etc....
The 3G speeds I get on my Evo3D are right in line with the Evo4G and the steady decline in service in my area (probably proportionate to some of the (now) 500,000 android activiations every effing day)....but the radio is like 1-1.5 bars lower than my Evo would average....which sucks. Performance isn't affected unless it's a fringe situation, like the bathroom at work...which sucks, I like to read CNN when I poop, but I digress.
I expect radio updates will help a lot, but, I ain't touchin' any of that until we have some action out of HTC or failing that one of our brilliant devs does what they are bound to do anyway...
...I've gotta admit, I've been F5ing the living fnck out of the two root threads in development and they are fascinating and at times exciting....I recommend it, it's better than the drunken 6-year-old mob mentality that has tended to coalesce in General lately--I haven't even bothered with Q&A....
Man I never thought I'd see the day where I'd salivate over 322 kbps.
If only Verizon would release better phones...

So flash a verizon PRL and watch your usage....once you hit 300mb put back the sprint PRL...it's like you are throttling yourself, lol.
Seriously, if Verizon is that much better where you are do it....where I am Verizon has a stronger signal but they also have MANY MANY MANY times more customers than Sprint, so, their network is way oversold and over utilized....Sprint not so much....so Sprint has weaker signals and faster speeds on average.
In terms of voice, Sprint is the clear winner where I am but for some reason Data is just the worst.
How would I go about flashing a Verizon PRL? I have the PRL file but I'm unsure of how to actually flash it.
Did you try calling Sprint and getting them to reprovision your phone?

My mistake for saying 'flashing', force of habit...
First thing you have to do is get your MSL, you can either call Sprint and ask for it or use the popular method (with CDMA workshop) that's currently around the top of the Dev section... I usually just called for it, but, for geekliness I had to rip it out myself and it was an effin' snap to do, so, just follow those directions to get it...
....then there is a thread floating around here (and/or the Evo4g forum) with a number of Verizon and Verizon/Altell hybrid PRL's.....download a couple...31337 is good I hear
then you punch in some ## codes, load the PRL file, reboot and ***POOF***, you are on verizon--still consuming roaming data and voice--but you aren't limited to 1x....
EDIT: Don't forget to hit "menu:commit changes" to reboot--or you won't make any changes.

Hmm thanks. I already have the MSL, but I don't see anything in the ##3282# to load in a new PRL. Is that the right code?
EDIT:
OK whoa whoa! I got a nice 300 kbps just now. I changed a setting in that menu regarding EVDO. Changed it from CDMA only to Automatic. Lemme revert and see what happens.

359 kbps
4821 kbps WTF?

I used to live in the Des Moines area of Iowa and the 3G was awesome...moved to Chicago and noticed its about dial up...don't know how you guys got/get by on just 3G. The EVO never went off 4G...
What's really sad is I could do speed tests on 3G in IA that are only slightly slower than my 4G tests here.
Has anybody seen 4G expand into their city in the past 4-6 months?
I'm searching the web and can't find any evidence that they are continuing to expand their 4g. I read on a couple web sites/forums that they just need to flip a switch and their existing 4g towers will increase the area they are covering but I can't find any evidence to support that they are actually doing this.
It seems as though Wimax expansion has halted. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yep pretty much.
Nope WiMax is pretty much dead. Sprint just announced this,
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/07/28/sprint-confirms-4g-lte-deal-with-lightsquared/
Looks like there going a different route with LTE. Clearwire was a great concept but they grew too fast and overstretched themselves.
While Sprint hasn't announced anything, Clear has continued to turn on towers nationwide to avoid the FCC breathing down their necks about not using their licenses.
Best place to look for 4g coverage is www.clear.com/coverage
I think it is complete BS. I dont have 4G in my area and honestly dont think I will within the next 2 years. When I first bought the Evo 4G, I thought I would have 4G within the year. 6 months after purchase I had I feeling it would never make it here. I bought the 3D with no expectations of ever being able to use the 4G on it....it sucks, but its reality

Just because Sprint doesn't show it on their coverage map doesn't mean there's none in your area. My co-worker makes it a habit to check Clear's coverage map daily. A couple months ago he noticed they had our town (40,000 people) lit up pretty well. Turned on 4G and sho' nuff I was able to connect. It shows up as Sprint and the speeds not bad. Check www.clear.com/coverage

This all sounds good, it all sounded good when Sprint's 4G first rolled out, and I bought the EVO 4G last year. So over a year later and STILL no 4G in all of SC, I mean come on.
Hell, I'd be happy with just GOOD 3g coverage, not 150 kbps crap speeds.
4g rolled out in May here, I couldn't get it inside though, noticed the other day I get a single bar inside now. Clearwire is still rolling it out. Sprint argued with me about 4g being in my area when I upgraded to the 3d.
Download sensorly from the market and use that instead.

My question is, with this LTE announcement, what will happen with the existing 4G Phones?

When will this start?

'effin A right! Last year, I switched to Sprint and got the Evo 4G with high hopes of getting 4G in my bustling college town in Central VA. Now, over a year later, I've stepped up to the 3D and still don't have reasonable 3G coverage, much less 4G. I'll stick with Sprint a while longer, but this ****'s gotta stop. Big promises only get new customers for so long before they get pissed off and leave.

AND on top of that, Verizon rolled out their LTE here (I'm just outside Columbia, SC) and my house is in LTE coverage. A buddy of mine has a verizon work phone (droid charge, hes in columbia) he pulls 24 meg down and like 5-6 meg up, from his house. That stuff pisses me off. Sprint was first with 4G, Verizon was late to the game but they've expanded far more than Sprint ever did, and ton's faster and in my area!

I think its still rolling, just slowly. I used to never get 4g at work, I now get it with solid signal.
I still am leaning towards the LTE being for voice over LTE. A few weeks ago they had a bunch of positions open up specifically to set up a voice over lte network, that was the whole point of the jobs.
I've been waiting on 4G since the day the OG evo came out, I bought it thinking I'd eventually have it, if not a year, then by the end of my contract.
Fast forward to today, I have an Evo 3D and still no 4G. But now the town over has 4G, and it's not the biggest or most crowded town, but what I don't understand is why they didn't turn 4G on in the metropolitan town of Springfield MA, instead of west springfield? There's gotta be way more sprint users in Springfield, and I'm there everyday.
Verizon's LTE is looking better and better everyday. If they get a superphone like the Evo 3D or the Sensation, I might just switch. Especially since Sprint can never seem to bill me properly
This is what's Going to happen.
Sprint Invested Heavily with Clearwire they own 51% + market share
Sprint Just invested in LightSquared with a 15year Deal
Clearwire has been rumored to switch to LTE when the market required it.
Dan Hesse 4g Announcement This Fall.
http://www.bgr.com/2011/07/19/sprint-ceo-dan-hesse-big-4g-announcements-coming-this-fall/
Clearwire Switch to LTE will be announced this Fall.
http://www.electronista.com/articles/11/05/06/clearwire.talks.about.lte.switchover.with.sprint/
So what does that Entail, Clearwire / Lightsquared for LTE network.
Clear to switch over current market to LTE, w/ the option of wimax as a backup.
Lightsqaured to pick up the slack in the currently missing markets to fill the void
So I got a letter from Sprint in the mail today saying that i used to much roaming but on my plan I have unlimited roaming so i called in and talked to a rep and she told me that when i roam it costs sprint money because i roam on other carriers towers ( which I really don't care about cuz if you tell me I have unlimited roaming I expect to have just that )and that there is really nothing I can do about it and that their gonna cancel my plan in a month if I don't stop roaming. Unfortunately, your problem is not as uncommon as you would think. "Unlimited Roaming" basically means nothing except that you won't be charged for being off network. If Sprint feels that you're roaming too much, rather then charge you for roaming, they cancel your contract.....which is also in your terms of service. Have you tried asking them to send you an Air Rave to use while you're at home? That might help to get you off of roaming. Also, be sure to keep your PRL and radios up to date, and stay off of the Verizon PRL's which force you to roam virtually all of the time.

In area where i live, i have good 3g signal and 2bars of 4g, but not inside my house, only if ill step outside and its often rain in here and gettin cold so what i do is i open my window (my room is on 3rd floor) and put my phone on it, that way i get good 3g signal no roaming(which used to happen to me once a day) and sometimes it goes all the way to 4g...
you just need to walk around house and try to find good spot...lol

You get a [previously 30 day] 14 day return policy for these devices.
If you weren't getting any reception and the coverage maps on the website show that you don't get good reception... why are you going with this carrier?
It's like setting yourself up just to have something to ***** about.
Roaming is also defined in your contract.
I see no where which stipulates it's "unlimited"
https://manage.sprintpcs.com/output/en_US/manage/MyPhoneandPlan/ChangePlans/popLegalTermsPrivacy.htm
They are actually quite clear about the rules:
Off-network Roaming: The primary use of your Device must be for domestic purposes within the Sprint-owned network. Domestic means use in the 50 United States and U.S. Territories (except Guam). Sprint reserves the right, without notice, to deny, terminate, modify, disconnect or suspend service if off-network usage in a month exceeds: (1) voice: 800 min. or a majority of minutes; or (2) data: 300 megabytes or a majority of kilobytes. The display on your device may not always be on and will not indicate whether you will incur roaming charges. You can monitor usage online through My Account. Roaming is not available with single-band phones, or to customers who reside or whose primary use is outside an area covered by the Nationwide Sprint Network. Sprint may limit or terminate service if you move outside of the Sprint owned-network.
Helps to read contracts and make informed choices before signing them.

This.
If you exceeded either 1 or 2, then you have no right to complain. I read my entire contract before I signed it. Just because you might not have, it doesn't exclude you from what you are legally bound to. Luckily Sprint is just canceling your service. Most other carriers would just charge you.

Actually, finally a post that is to the point and it is very relevant to this thread! It doesn't sound like the OP is knowingly using roam control or a Verizon PRL. In that case, here we have a person who went to a Sprint store and they set up a phone and service for this customer. When you do that, the customer has a reasonable expectation of actually getting the service they signed up for! Sprint has your address when you sign up. They know where you live. So IMO, the onus is on Sprint for looking at the customer's address, finding that on a coverage map, and advising that they cannot properly serve this customer.
So yeah, one solution would certainly be for Sprint to develop their network so it isn't full of holes! The other is for them to just keep doing what they are doing: selling service to people they can't serve and then terminating them by sending a letter as if the customer is doing something wrong by roaming!

Actually, I even listened to the press conference. It has everything to do with this thread though. Even if people are deliberately roaming, that usually only happens when their service is very poor. I get horrible data speeds in the area that I work, even outside, despite Sprint's coverage map showing I should have good 3G coverage.
Hopefully they will fix things, but I'm just not very confident they will.
Sorry but this has happened to me too. I moved to Nebraska from Alabama, which I had great Sprint service there. But once I moved to Nebraska the service was not bad it just didn't even have 3g in my small town. I had and OG EVO, and the funny thing is I actually bought the phone in the same small Nebraska town at the Wal Mart, with no 3g and especially not 4g. Being the Android Pro that I think I am I figured out the PRL to use to use Verizon's Data network which IS 3g in the area. After about 4 months I got my letter in the mail and they told me I had a month to find a new carrier and that my service was being Terminated. I was pissed! But I understood because I basically the I was roaming the majority of the time on another carriers network so why not just go them was what they basically told me. So long story short, I got out of my contract which I had just started and went over to Verizon using a friends phone so I wouldn't have to sign a contract. Moved to Virginia a few months later where the Sprint coverage is waaaay better. And got the EVO 3d. Well I guess we now know how to get out of a contract with Sprint!
Hope my story helped somebody~!

No, the real issue is...if a carrier doesn't have good coverage in YOUR area [or the area you're in most of the time] then you need to find a new carrier instead of abusing the system [and other CDMA networks] and then coming on forums and whining about that carrier for cutting you off.
Period.

How could you be pissed. Sprint should be pissed because they lost money because you hacked your phone to only use Verizon towers which cost them money. How long was it after you bought your phone to when you moved? Did you know that you were moving before you bought your phone?
You, as a consumer, has a responsibility to make sure that the service you are buying works for you the way it should. There is no way for sprint to know exactly how good the coverage is for every house. There are places where you get four bars and then walk 50 feet and get 0-1 bar. When you purchased the phone and realized that you were roaming, you should then have returned it or contacted customer service for a solution. But by ignoring the problem and blaming Sprint, you lose all credibility.

That would be fine if there were no ETF.

Believe it or not, that's exactly what the 14 [formerly 30] day return policy is for.
Yes, it's about making sure your phone is what you want but it's more importantly for making sure the service is worth it for you.
As someone else said, Sprint [and all other carriers] cannot tell you how the service is going to act specifically for you.
They don't know where you go, they don't know the setup of your house, any large structures in the area, different terrain, etc etc etc.
Two weeks is plenty of time to determine this, and there's NO ETF in those first two weeks.
Is anyone in the cities/communities that LTE went live in, connecting to the network and maintaining the connection? I am in San Antonio, and have only had LTE connect once and that was before the network went live. I checked the coverage map and it says it should connect but I am having no luck. I have read in other threads that people connect for a few seconds then go back to 3G service. I just wanted to see what everone else's mileage is. Thanks
I'm in san Antonio as well. I barely got any lte since launch. And I'm right by a tower.

the sprint maps arent accurate as of right now. the towers havent all been upgraded. that map is more a representation of coverage once there done. i was holding a stable 4g connection down in the quarry saturday afternoon.
I saw the 4g icon once about a month ago. And it was so sporadic I couldn't do anything with it.
Now that it's officially live in KC. Still haven't seen anything. Stuck on 3g and I'm about a mile and a half from the Sprint campus.
I was out of town last week and was hoping to come back to LTE. Sprint said the 15th, so I guess shouldn't expect much until the end of the month.
I am in DFW and where I live I get nothing.. not even a blip of 4G turning on. Where I work it turns on but it usually flips right back to 3G. I was able to hold it for about 15 mins at one point this morning but thats been it.
Unfortunately for me 3G coverage on my towers is god awful to the point im tempted to activate my OGEvo and use wimax till this is sorted.
I live 3 blocks from the sprint compound in KC and haven't seen a hair of LTE. Odd.
San Antonio, no service yet. Coverage map might be a prediction of complete service and not an actual "current serviceā map

Went outside during lunch and did pick up 4g.
Ran a speedtest, 1.5 down, about the same up. Not real impressive. Although still better then the non-existent 3g as of late.
As soon as I walk back in the building it goes back to 3g.
I am in San Antonio as well, and no, it goes crazy 4G-3G-4G-3G etc etc but it does not maintain 4G... it switches back to 3G and stays there... if I force it to stay on 4G (##DATA#) it get good solid 4G speeds at one point 10down 8up... but it wont make or receive phone calls, if I reboot I get a "the process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly"
I seriously hope things improve in terms of the network. It would be a shame if all this NV stuff Sprint talked about was just hype.... I know LTE just went live but it should atleast be able to grab a decent connection. Let's just hope it can penetrate better and be more reliable than WiMAX....

I was able to get LTE in the 1604/I10 area Friday night but now its nowhere to be found. I spoke with a customer rep and they did say that it will be a work in progress as they are making some sort of adjustments to the towers and that when that happens they may be taken down to make the switch and the overload of traffic on other towers is causing it to not connect properly to the LTE servers. I would have thought that this transition would have been made before going live but apparently not. Hopefully over the next few days the network gain strength.
Odessa texas here, Nothin man, nada. What pisses me off is that we're paying for 4g service and we cannt even get it. like paying for a meal you cant eat, a car you cant drive, a hooker you cant,,,,ok thats too much, Anyways you know what im saying ,,,right?
Another person in SA with no 4G here. I carpooled this morning and saw nothing the whole way to work. (Bandera & 1604 across 151 and then to Culebra & 410 if we're mapping this). Went out for lunch and didn't get any signal either. Oh well, I guess we'll see how things look in a week or so.
I talked to a Sprint rep and they said they are still working to get the coverage shown on the map for LTE. I gave them a couple zip codes and they came back and said they should go live soon
Try getting a hold of a Sprint rep on chat/phone and give them your zip if you are supposed to be getting LTE according to the map.
Personally I am getting blazing speeds in the south but 0 LTE in the north. I am being patient
I'm not in San Antonio at the moment. Live in Los Angeles and well...I'll let my screenshot speak for it's self.

The 10$ is for any smartphone regardless of 4g or not. They changed that charge a long time ago. Its premium data now. Every company does this..no big deal.

Originally it was a WiMAX charge but then they figured out that they couldn't legally charge for their WiMAX unless it was actually up and running in their entire proposed network. They then said it was for all smartphones to get around it. Yes its not a big deal because sprint is still cheaper than the other carriers but they still don't have a completely functioning WiMAX/lte network. We all know its a 4g charge no matter what they call it

Dacula, GA here. Got a 4g signal about a month ago, but only for a short while. Now the coverage map says that I am covered, but I haven't gotten any signal. So like everyone is saying, the map is pretty inaccurate right now. Hopefully i'll get some connection by the end of this month.
This is the best I could do today in the Vinings GA (burbs of of ATL) area. 4G has been flashing since Mon for me. It lasts for less than 5 mins, but long enough for me to do a few speed tests. 4G also flashes at my home, but its very brief. What's crazy is today I was told about the Open Signal app, so I downloaded it. It's really helpful... What I didn't know was the tower I see near my job is a Sprint Tower. I also have another tower about a mile away. I saw today I caught 4G from both. Makes me wonder what's really up? The tower is right outside my office, so is the LTE signal that weak, or are there some kind of signal/antenna issues? Oh by the way, the Sprint Tower is also really close to where I live. It's about 0.2-0.3 miles away...

I've had my Evo LTE since launch, and have had call issues since the beginning. I came from the OG Evo, and knew Sprint had bad coverage in some areas around me; but this has been much much worse. I would say 4 out 5 calls drop immediately upon connection. I will have half or more signal when I call and as soon as it connects it drops off and I look and there are 0 bars. Oh, I'm also not in a town which has the updated network/LTE. I had done the HTC Unlock immediately, so I was nervous about trying to take my phone back. But thanks to this amazing guide, I can get it back to stock. Has anyone else had issues like this fixed by getting a new phone?
My main question is who do I take it back to? I have the BB Black Tie insurance, so I was thinking that would be easiest/quickest exchange. But I wasn't sure how they would react since there is nothing visibly wrong with the phone. And I'm sure as soon as I get in Best Buy it will work flawlessly .
are you in an area that is currently undergoing Network vision updates? In my area (Chicago suburbs), sprint acknowledged that the NV upgrades were causing problems.
I constantly get "no data connection" when I have 3 bars (not roaming) :/
have try doing a service reset? ##72786#

I have not. I'm assuming it's okay to do this running S-Off and custom Rom (CM10)?
I have also noticed terrible 3G speeds, much much worse than my OG Evo.

I'm in north okc and have the exact same issue. I've been in numerous lengthy phone calls with sprint about this and I'm on my second phone to no avail. My girls phone is the same. This phone does not like the okc area whatsoever. I remember my 3d was the same. I am currently at the point of leaving sprint for this. I love this phone but its driving me crazy. And let's not get into peak hours data drop.... I'm so frustrated with sprint right now.

Well, I think I'm going to go back full stock tomorrow and run it by a Sprint repair store. Guys in IRC channel recommended I have them check my radios. I work with a guy who has a Samsung on Sprint and doesn't have great signal, but better than mine! I'm so torn right now, I know if i switched to Verizon I'd have great LTE signal all over town, but I wanted to support Sprint and see if they could fix their network. Now I'm regretting it but stuck in contract. But then again if I were to switch, there aren't really any phones I'm interested in on Verizon...
I love this phone but, I am.pissed and tired of repair stores, and sprint technical, and supervisors, and credits. They can see that most of my disconnects are device related and still won't switch me to another device or something. I really don't even want to switch. But, I totally believe its network being upgraded and this device is designed for something other than what's offered in my area.

Send it in to htc and have them fix it. They warranty it for a year.
I had one that dropped calls but my second one is perfect.
Well, I'm going to try to get to the Sprint store later this afternoon. Will update here with result. If it's just their **** network, think they might let me out of contract if I ***** enough? If they do, then where do I go? I freaking love this phone, but if it can't make phone calls I can't keep it...
--Update--
I went to a Sprint store on Saturday to see what they said. As soon as I mentioned dropped calls and crappy speeds he started apologizing. Evidently they have begun the network update in Oklahoma, which means that a lot of towers are down or not at normal capacity. He said this has been going on most of the year and that the network should be back at normal capacity by the end of the year. He also said he had heard LTE by June-July of 2013, but was just a rumor. He reset my profile and PRL and said it might help. I'm going to stick it out as of now and hope they can produce a solid LTE network. I do really love Sprint and their fight for unlimited data, just hope they keep it up.
Dropped Calls
I, too, have had terrible luck with calls dropping with this phone. I was on the OG EVO and did not have these issues at all. From looking at this site s4gru.com I do not believe that my area (Indy) should be under any network updating as of yet. However, it also looks like Oklahoma should not be, either - so maybe they started early
In the end...my old EVO did not have issues up to the day I upgraded, and the new EVO has had issues since day 1. I do not believe this is a network issue, but more of a hardware/radio/phone design issue. I hoped the newest updates (including radio) would help, but I am still dropping calls way too often.
