Building New Rom. Need help - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys/Gals
I need some serious assistance. I have been playing around with some roms and decided that its time to start my own one as what I need is not completely what any of the other roms could offer.
Is there anyone that is willing to assist me a little to get things going. I have googled now for 2 days straight. Got the SDK that's completely useless (Unless someone could guide me on it) and I have played around with so many apps and things I really dunno where to begin.
To start I just want a plain rom witch i could start hacking at and start creating my own rom with.
Thanks in Advance

Would you like some fries with that?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium

I was just asking for a clean 4.0.4 rom to download from somewhere actually. I will decompile it and change everything myself.
I didnt ask for fries but thanks for the offer

Thanks m8 From what i learn ripping other roms apart I found those 2 You dont know perhaps where I could find just a Clean ICS 4.0.4 ?
-----------------
From what I saw there are 2 versions currently... The CM9 and CM9 kitchens ... I want to make something totally different. TBH im so over the same old same old with the roms. Hence I want to start fresh and build something completely different yet nice enough for everyone to use. 99% of the roms try to look like the Pure ICS Blue but Apex is crap in my opinion and breaks non stop. Well I tend to break it a lot so I want something new and from all the roms I looked at there is no middle ground Rom out yet.... Its either CM9 or Some complete ICS Nexus look alike ... no variety.
So that being said I wasnt being offensive to anyone. I just want to build a middle ground ROM but what the base of it to be correct thats all

What's another good place to find roms?

Was just wondering if anyone knows any other good sites and if you've found/are running anything that you have got from another site.
Thanks.
Can get something from the i9100 forum and hellraise it. I'm running one from there that I just installed.
Thanks, but I was looking for roms that aren't from XDA.
RootzWiki, though its not very active
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
Rootzwiki is somewhat active on older phones but on newer ones its not. You can also try the theunlockr.com but i believe most of the roms come from xda.
Thanks for the replies guys.
Google is your friend.
Although, I think I would refrain from trying any, unless there were a large base of people who are not having issues.
Pay particular attention to the model numbers being used etc.
Of course, if bricking your phone is of no monetary concern, then by all means, go for it!
My 2 cents....
Thanks, but unfortunately google hasn't really turned up much.
Just curiosity, why don't you like ROMs from XDA?

i doubt its about likes or dislikes. he probably just wants to see what else is hiding out there.
I kind of doubt that there are really any other sites out there beside the ones already listed.Because YouTube videos and Google searches all point back here to XDA.

I understand how you feel.you can only hellraise n flash so many roms haha

It's a cool thing to try out.it gives you a nice big selection of roms to flash from.I say give it a try you may in up liking it.

Give it a try . Its pretty easy, I just hellraised my first ROM a few nights ago .
So what does one have to do to hell raise just flash rom then flash hell raise package?

Yep exactly. Of course read the OP of Hellraiser thread and make sure your zip doesn't have bootloaders and whatnot. But yeah dude. Flash ROM, flash Hellraiser package, reboot. I highly recommend Illusion-xT for i9100. It is gorgeous with great battery life!

roms getting stale....

So im sitting here with CM7 and I have flashed a billion times different roms because bordem has set in. I know that CM9 is supposedly around the corner but can we get some new roms and or updates on current ones??
I'm thinking there are no significant updates to be made, short of the one "we"are all waiting for...

there are at least 3 with 2012 updates. you can always DIY. there is now another waste thread here, which means less people will search and will post more waste threads.

REALLY?!? Nobody wants to do any groundbreaking changes when ICS is literately right around the corner. A few little updates probably wont quinch your bored thirst either. You do realize though for the Devs to come in here and read this, they can take this as a slam, right? Not a nice way to get more roms/updates.

Since you're bored, Id suggest to read up and learn how to hellraise and then try a few i9100 romes. That will both take up that bored time and also give you some new roms to play with.
I dont approve of this thread at all and I feel that this could get really hostile due to the blunt disrespect for the Devs in this forum.

Unlikely to be just stock + different launcher but you would need to read the roms specifications .
Point out rom version you describe please .
jje
It sounds to me like what you want to do could be achieved with a Kitchen, which is a program that can help you customize your existing ROM by adding and removing pieces from it. The kitchen then normally outputs a ZIP file you can flash.
Some kitchens run on your handset, some run on your PC.
I am new to Galaxy S II (I've been a Vibrant user for years), but I am sure a quick search of the forums will find you some kitchens.
I am a complete noob to this even if I get one of these kitchens i wont know what do next, will it have tutorials?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
Essentially you're looking for an easy way to do this (like 90% of people on here), and there isn't one.
If you really want to make roms you wouldn't be asking basic questions on here. You'd be doing the research/learning necessary to achieve what you say you want to do.

This says it all. You're not even close to having the ability to make your own ROM.
And before anyone flames, I happily admit that I'm not close either. I've done the research, but lack the time and - especially - skills necessary.
There's a lot of tools that will help you theme a ROM, probably a better point to start from. Check the general android themes forum.
I know im not close but there was a time when the best rom producers didnt even know what a rom was.
Im just tryin to find out where to start and since theres a lot of rom developers on this site i think its the best place to ask

Agree - everyone has to start somewhere. But I reckon most devs here have some coding/programming skills as a base - something I certainly don't possess.
Here's a noob's guide that I've been promising myself to try one day, when I have 8 or 10 years spare... seems a good starting point anyway. It's for the HD2 but the general theory seems universal.
Otherwise, google.

All roms are google because google makes android but whenever you buy a phone the company puts there software on top of android. The nexus didnt have any software added so its a pure google rom. Go to the thread I sent you and look for CyanogenMod.

ROMs are phone dependant. What you are looking for is an unaltered version of android, like your nexus had. The closest you will find is a ROM like Cyanogen mod... CM for short, or one that says AOSP in the name (Android open Source Project).
Really you should read the stickies in the main forum and research a little about installing ROMs on a phone. You should not just jump in with no knowledge and expect to get it the way you want right away. This is a lot of the time a trial and error thing until you find a ROM that suits your tastes.
Good luck in your search for a new ROM.

You have a lot of reading and research to do if you ended up paying someone on Craigslist to root your phone. For all you know it only has root and still has the locked bootloader and stock recovery. READ, READ, and then READ SOME MORE.

Yes the galaxy nexus and galaxy note 2 are two total different roms. The note has samsung touchwiz which has alot of great features that pure aosp doesnt but if you are looking for aosp I would suggest cm10.1 or liquidsmooth my 2 favorit aosp roms. Just like the guy stated be sure you know what you are doing before you delve any deeper and have a bricked phone!

but you want cm10.1 like everyone has said. But read dude. You sound like you need to study up
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
A good start for you is go to settings then all the way at the bottom select about phone. See what build your phone is on and also what andeois version (4.1.2 oe 4.2.2 etc) search for qhat your phone has as those and you can find out if your running a stock or custom rom. From there someone can better help you choose a rom to test. But keep in mind roms come down to what you like not qhat everyone else likes. I'm currently running the transnebula tab rom and loving right now. But always read read read before doing anything if you're new to this. Then when you think you're ready read some more then test

Just run someone else's rom. If you cant find the cm thread on your own, you got a slim chance of cooking a rom. I mean good luck but it sounds like a terrible idea to me and you dont know much about android dude. Use google to find a guide. Its not difficult friend

Read more.... lots more and jump in! It's a lot if work, but you can make your own, but you will need research. You won't get the info you need by asking, you won't get enough to succeed. Sure I could point you to the ROM kitchen thread or a thread with guides to compile and AOSP ROM from source, but I'm betting you dont know what that means yet. Which is why I say research then when you get stuck people are very helpful.
Ps guys I agree he's not ready yet and is probably best running someone's work, but I always encourage new development

Help Roms Samsung Lalaxy Ace GT-5839i

Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a good custom rom for my girl GT-5839i.-
Looking for ICS ou JB, preferably CM rom.
Can someone help me with some lights.
I'm quite experiente with Huawei phones but I'm finding a bit complicated dealing with this Samsung especially because of the fórum organization and afraid to mess the phone due to compatibility issues.
Thanks in advance.
Actually, there is no ICS/JB rom for our ace-i, but you can try CyanogenMod 7.2 rom of biel, which you can find here..
And if you want to see all the rom, search in development section.
Thanks a lot.
It's a shame no real dev work being done for this phone
Actually, it's not easy, because we don't have gpu sources, however there is a CM9.1 rom, but very laggy.

How will you define real development work?
This has been said several times that instead of bashing and saying someone sucks, you should see how hard it is and mostly people aren't paid for doing this. You should be grateful to have this much, many devices don't even have this much development.

And as a common misconception, making custom ROM, or theme or mod isn't development
Just telling you, I mean no disrespect to anyone
