There is a setting in ics, called -i believe- quiet hours...check that see if it's perhaps default on?
Can't seem to find it in the settings.
Sorry, I'm on froyo now...I think it was under rom control if you're using a custom rom.

Solve the problem
Hi,
I had the same issue with my Galaxy Nexus but i found a way to solve the problem not permit solution but by using app called " Volume Locker " which will force the device to turn the volume up once it goes silent by sudden.
I am having this problem since galaxy s2. The mobile automatically switches between silent, ringtone, and vibration mode. I think one or 2 apps might be causing this behavior. Really annoying

My vibrate is working on 35.1. It could possibly be a bad download or maybe your vibrate motor just wore out. ( it is one of the few moving parts in our phone)
You could try redownloading/ reflash and if that doesn't work, I would return to stock eh03 to see if it functions at all.

so i thought i was having that issue till i hit the call button, went into dialer settings and enabled vibrate from there. try it out
I honestly had sort of the dame issue twice. I would get a weak weird vibrate instead and when I reset the phone it was fine again. It us probably due to the age of the phones is my best guess.

Hi all, the matter is very simple, I have been running my Galaxy S2 perfectly for months without any problem, but recently, once in a few days, my volume gets twice lower than normal, I mean all kinds of sound ringtone, notification sound, alarm etc. I checked in settings and other volume apps but their volume bars remain unchanged, the only way is fix it (as I know now) is to clear all the cache and restart the phone, but I don't want to do that 'cause it will come back in a few days without any sign and clearing cache means I will lost some apps' history
Anyone has any clue or suffered from the same problem? 'cause I totally don't know why it's like that ???
Are you using any flip to silence software? I had a similar problem when I had Flip installed.

Try to Flash a Stock Rom via Odin.
Hello,
I bought recently the new SGS3 and after a week or two of using I noticed the phone loses all the sounds despite all of them are turned on and not being on minimum. After a while the sounds get back and everything works fine. At first I thought it might be from the settings because I set up silent mode for all notifications and I thought it may turn all the sounds off, despite it normally shouldn't. After playing for a while with the phone I realized the issue appears randomly without any reasons while I was playing game or simply navigating through the phone. If anyone had experienced the same issue or have an idea what could be the problem (software, hardware, settings, OS, etc) or how it can be solved, please respond. Any answer is appreciated as the problem is quite annoying as I'm missing calls because of it.
Thank you.
Phone details:
Samsung Galaxy S III
Android version - 4.0.4
Baseband version - I9300BOLF1
Kernel version - 3.0.15-782020
Build number - IMM76D.I9300XXBLFB
P.S. Restart of the phone doesn't help as I already tried it. The issues is related to all the sounds not to the vibration, the last works fine.
Backup data and factory reset.

Thank you for your advise JJEgan, unfortunately it didn't help neither. Yesterday I did the factory reset and left it as it is, didn't restore any of my previous settings or apps, didn't install anything additional, just wanted to see if the problem will appear again, and unfortunately it did.
Anything else I can try or I should take it to a service?
Thank you
I have the same problem with notification sounds. The problem appears when i turn off notifications on apk like im+ or Yahoo messenger. Is there any other solution rather than factory rest?

Hi. Got a strange sound problem on my S3. Have Omega Rom installed XXEMB5 v 43.1 and J-Kay 14.92.9. Stock Kernel After some time my phone does not have any sound. If i try to play a sound withsound player it says that it is not supported. Cannot play any Youtube video, no ringtone or notification sound. If I reboot the phone everything works normal again for some time until the problem is there again. Tried to reset to factory, wiped and reformatted the internal and external memory card and reinstalled Rom and Jkay. Anyone knows about this problem or have a solution?

I'd install a stock ROM to test the speaker. That will tell you if the problem is the custom ROM, which it may well be. Otherwise, ask in the specific ROM's thread that the dev started.
Hi, I think I am having the same problem.
About 30 minutes ago I missed a call, Phone was on my desk 2 meters away?? He then rang back and the phone was in front of me with the call screen but no sound, I checked all volume levels and they were all high. Now when I altered the volume with the rocker switch (Down then up) the volume came back
I also had this same problem a few weeks ago when I was running custom Samsung roms, But that was mainly to do with the alarm going off but not sounding. So I reverted back to stock because of those issues and now that I am getting the same problems on the stock software it must be a hardware fault.
So I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with the rom but the hardware instead somehow. I Don't want to but I may have to send my phone off.
Somebody else must have this problem as well? ??
i have the same problem too, just like for me the sonds do not come back after reboot. i made it to work somehow but after one more reboot the problem is here again and cant make it work again.
Hi guys, extremely frustrating problem I have.
It has happened on two different ROM's so I don't think it's a glitch with the ROM as such, but of a file or possible app in my phone.
I have even used rom toolbox to delete every notification sound, yet this ghost noise still occurs.
It usually happens after I unlock my phone, the noise resembles something similair to the notification sound 'deneb'
No idea what it is, or how I can shut it up, once again it sometimes happens, othertimes it doesn't.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
