The task bar and anything that is suppose to be black on my screen has turned red. Even the boot screen is red. I took my Prime to the pool (not even close to the water) and I was playing games while watching the kids swim. I played a little Modern Conflict then went for a swim and my son kept playing for me. He put it down on the chair face up. Not really in direct sunlight. When we left I put it in it's sleeve and when I got home and took it out of sleep the task bar was red. I rebooted and the boot screen was red. Turned it off for a while but it's still red.
Anyone?????????????
Edit - I was so pissed last night I didn't explore this much. I opened my browser this morning and on yahoo's home screen all the areas that are suppose to be white are a sky blue color. This is also the way the stock e-mail app looks as well. ARRRRRGGGGGGAAAAAAHHHHHHHH
That's really weird... Just curious, if you take a screen shot, send it to your email and look at it on another device, is it red or black? Probably black, as I'm thinking it's a hardware issue, but just wondering. Really very odd though...

Thanks Steve,
I transfered a screenshot to my PC and shows the black normal. Appears to be a hardware issue if the software is rendering the proper colors while creating the screenshot. I guess I'll have to venture into RMA hell.
I have not tried a full factory reset yet. Getting all my data backed up first. Pushing the reset button does nothing.
EDIT - Pictures added
Here are some pictures I took with my phone since screenshots render properly. The first picture is how my home screen used to look like. The rest are of the problem.

That looks like it is probably hardware damage but it might be worth trying a factory reset before going the RMA route. It could be a problem with drivers that might be resolved by a reset.
Factory reset did not work. Going to RMA
did you drop the prime at all? or something fell on it or bumped it really hard? maybe something with the display connector is loose.

Not that I know of. My son treats my stuff good so I don't think he droped it. I'm in the process of RMAing it and hopefully it won't take too long.
maybe caused by a magnet????? just like in old tvs if you put a magnet clse to the screen ir messes up all the colors.
No, no magnets on a plastic lawn chair. LoL
Put it in the sleeve at the pool. Set it in the car where I always do. Took it out when I got home and set it on the dining room table. Woke it up about 30 minutes later to check e-mail and that is when I noticed the red. Rebooted with no help. RMA in progress.
I have noticed something since this has happened. Before, when I'd play games or surf heavily the back of my Prime would get warm right where the SoC is located. I've also been having random shutdowns when playing THD games. I think my NVIDIA chip may be messed up. Now the thing runs really good and it doesn't get warm anymore. I've not had any shutdowns since this happened. Maybe something in one or all of the GPU's was messed up to begin with and now that it fried it runs better. I know that sound crazy but I've seen chips do some strange things in the past (I work in the semiconductor industry).
Anyway, hopefully ASUS will replace my motherboard because I don't think it's software related.
Just sent my Prime in for repair. I'll report back what they find just in case you are interested or develop the same problem.
Crazy lol
Yeah, I'd say that's definitely an issue with the GPU. Loose cable could be it, but you usually don't see distortion like that if that's the case. That sucks, hopefully you'll get it back fixed.
Sorry I didn't report back sooner but I RMA'd it and it came back fixed. Total RMA time was a little over a week.
I'll have to send it back soon because I don't think the tech that did the repair connected my rear camera back good enough because I now have the green lines on the camera issue and also my charging brick died the other day. Just another day is Prime paradise I guess.
My Prime has been in RMA for a week now. Had the same problem (and many more) as yours, with the blacks turning red. Hopefully I'll be getting mine back soon then as well.

Yesterday I flashed aokp to my prime, everything went well. Long story short, I remember dropping it, barely bumped the carpet, and it was inside a leather case.
Got home and pulled it out....The screen was just black, however I could hear that it was on, and took a screen shot hearing the camera sound.
I've tried
Holding the power till vibrate....nada
Holding power for 30 sec..... Nada
My pc saw the internal drive, and micro sd as if it were on, and functioning properly, but screen still black.
So I got a paperclip and pressed the reset for about a min, so now it's in the same state as when I flashed CWM for the first time.
Any helpful ideas would be much appreciated!!!!
I'm willing to take it apart if I have to.

Sounds to me like your lcd ribbon cable got disconnected. If there are no signs of a drop, scratches, dents, etc , I think ASUS will fix it.
DIY= Follow one of the TF201 teardown threads and snap the connector back in yourself.
I would go for the 2nd option myself...too many ASUS RMA horror stories.
Plus I would probably experiment with tweaking the wifi/ gps antenna

Just opened it up, and was amazed to see (despite the tape supposedly holding the ribbon in place) it was completely dislodged.

yes it did, and it was so easy.
After watching the techrepublic video of a complete Prime breakdown component by component, I have great confidence in taking apart my Prime to mod the wifi.....if I can just find some thick copper tape somewhere

Hey guys and gals. A little background: I replaced my phone through Asureon about two weeks ago. The replacement looked brand new (everything was identical to my original phone) so I suspect it wasn't a refirb (how can you tell?)
Every so often the screen will get these small flickers and flashes. It's honestly very rare, and I attribute it more to the ROM and/or just a glitch than anything.
This morning though I was just casually browsing reddit when my screen suddenly froze, went dim, then black. Then white lines started to "expose" or get slowly brighter on the left, then right side of the screen. It looked very similar to when a LCD display dies or has a crack. It didn't spread beyond the left and right outer most sides.
I hard rebooted the phone and it's been working perfect ever since. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? Should I be worried that my phone might be defective?
I took a photo of the screen using a point and shoot camera I had with me. I'll upload it when I get home from work so you can see what I'm talking about.

Yeah, happens about once a week, I really don't know what causes it, goes away after a reboot though.
What Rom and kernel do you have.

I have never seen this problem before. I'm guessing you are rooted and running a custom rom. What are you running when it happens, what are your density settings, or is it default. Are you running a 320/380 dpi rom? Have you changed any system settings like oc/uc kernel_gpu or running any apps that may govern these type of hardware changes? Thanks.

Hm, mine looks different, for me, the screen freezes, then slowly fades to black, then goes to thin rainbow stripes all across the screen.
Hello Everyone. Well, I just found out that my 16 month old son is tall enough to reach up and blindly fish for things on the edge of my kitchen counters. I heard him laughing and banging something against the linoleum floor, so I went to investigate. That something was my phone, which was just previously on the edge of the counter. I recovered my phone and replaced it with his old cricket phone that we gave him to play with. I inspected the phone, and there were no cracks, dents, or any other physical damage. The buttons, touchscreen, speaker, and everything else worked. My phone worked liked normal, so I didn't think anything else of it.
Two days later, something funny happened. I turned on my screen, and it just showed a screen full of multicolored pixels. I plugged my phone into the charger, and the screen returned to normal. This started happening more frequently, and I would just turn my screen off and on until it returned to normal. Two days after the first incident, the screen now permanently displays the full screen of multicolored pixels. Nothing I do will correct it. Every single other aspect of the phone works correctly, even the touchscreen.
So, I am here hoping you guys can help me figure out what is wrong. I can take the phone completely apart and fix or replace a part that is broken. What do you guys thing is wrong or broken?
Here is a picture of what my phone displays.

it is a known issue, and especially not uncommon after drops. mine just started doing it intermittently. the thread below is one that I was actually just reading before popping over here and noticing this thread.
I'm debating between taking it in right now (and risking them giving me trouble because of rooting) or just waiting until the screen stays static and then taking it in.

Mine did this today. Hasn't been dropped at all. It happened when I tried to turn screen on. When plugged into pc, nothing is detected. I have to bring it to a Sprint store.

I've lost two Evos to this problem. If you have insurance take it in...there are intermittent reports of Sprint replacing broken Evos with a new HTC One.

You'll never get in trouble for rooting. As long you have Sense on. You'll be good.

Turns out that the Sprint store closest to me doesn't do repairs anymore so I was going to have to go 40 miles to another one. I called Sprint and after some waiting, they are sending me a new phone via UPS. I just have to send the other one back to them.

Hi guys,
Long story short, took my phone to the pool, took the kids some pics and underwater video and the phone started to reboot... At first i thought it was by mistake, the 2nd time i started to look into it and saw the "can't read sim card" message. That was the sign that told me my baby have had issues. The screen got water, the cameras got foggy. I was able to shake some of the water out it through the ports.
I can't tell if it was a dirty flap or a fall it took 2 days ago and it hit the top right corner. Anyway, the phone is working now. However, the screen has water and it looks like blemishes.
Should i be worried or do something about it? Please see the pics, the screen looks awful [emoji20] [emoji17]

I'm sorry to say that these patches cannot be removed, I had several phone with water damage, and the screen always remains that what whatever I do to it .
Again, a warning for everyone, the whole Z series isn't water resistant, it might survive a very few seconds underwater, but not enough to take pictures and have fun with it. Better not put it in water at all, a water splatch accident is manageable and wouldn't inflict damage to the phone

Turn it off and put it in a bag of raw rice for atleast a couple of days.. Open all your flaps and then put it.. Don't turn it on until u r sure atleast most of that water is gone..
Thanks. Lesson learned.
It seems this it for my Z2. I did the pictures before, what i did different was to leave it in my side poket for about 30 seconds. It probably was 2 feet deep. They say 3 feet should be fine. Also the flaps get dirty from time to time, and it doesn't close well enough. I'd probably be back when there is no flap. The Z4 seems to be going in the right direction.

Had similar experience taking pictures and videos under water and after about an hour or two it was still fine. I only started seeing tiny dew on the main camera when the phone starts to heat.
The next day I have to open the back and clean the dew. It was just some three tiny dots but directly in front of the camera lens so taking a picture is blurry.
After cleaning it, covered it back and it's normal as before.
As for your own, water probably entered the front panel and that could affect the screen permanently and would probably need replacing the screen if you want it the way it was.
But I think you should let a good phone service person open it and see, it could be that the water is between the digitizer and the LCD. In that case could be cleaned.

yeah it sucks though. if its as you say, i hope the water dries cuz i wouldnt open it myself. i am going to wait another week or so...This is supposed to be my work phone, they gave me an iphone 5s a year ago or so but i got rid of it to get me the xperia. i might just ask for another iphone since my android option with work is pretty much the S5 and i have a note 4... for now this will do to make/receive phone calls and read /send emails
Did anyone had an issue with the battery getting swollen on this phone? If so, could you tell me if it looked similar to this?
I don't know if it just got kinda bent and the screen popped out a bit or if the bulging battery is pushing it out.

The first two photos show how the metal casing got separated from the black plastic rim and the grey plastic tip on the back, it only happened on the bottom right side, looking at the screen.
The other two show how how the layer of glass is bulging from the black plastic frame, it only happens on the right side around the middle of the phone. It's soft and springy to touch, i can push it back down but it pops right back up.
Have you opened it up? Sounds like a mount inside broke, and can't hold the edge down. Or, it could just be misaligned inside. The last case, that I could think of, is a damaged battery. Check the way it's charging, and if it smells funny.
Thank you very much for your response!

I hope that's not the case, the phone served me well for all those years, and even if i get a new one it'd be great to have a backup device and not just scrap the thing.
I don't know what to look for when charging and as soon as i started to suspect the battery might be getting a touch explosive i stopped charging/using it. I might try it if you tell me what to look for.
The phone does smell a bit off, it has that weird electronic smell but then again it is an electronic device sooo that might be just normal, i don't know i never smelled it before. The smell seems to be stronger next to the opened case, but if it's just a normal smell of the device inside it would also have that smell there since it's more open on that side.

The smell test is to see if the battery's damaged, or swelling(maybe that's why the case won't close on that side). It's old, and that day will come when the battery needs replaced, mine's still hanging in there.
