Screen question - got water in my phone - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Long story short, took my phone to the pool, took the kids some pics and underwater video and the phone started to reboot... At first i thought it was by mistake, the 2nd time i started to look into it and saw the "can't read sim card" message. That was the sign that told me my baby have had issues. The screen got water, the cameras got foggy. I was able to shake some of the water out it through the ports.
I can't tell if it was a dirty flap or a fall it took 2 days ago and it hit the top right corner. Anyway, the phone is working now. However, the screen has water and it looks like blemishes.
Should i be worried or do something about it? Please see the pics, the screen looks awful [emoji20] [emoji17]

I'm sorry to say that these patches cannot be removed, I had several phone with water damage, and the screen always remains that what whatever I do to it .
Again, a warning for everyone, the whole Z series isn't water resistant, it might survive a very few seconds underwater, but not enough to take pictures and have fun with it. Better not put it in water at all, a water splatch accident is manageable and wouldn't inflict damage to the phone

Turn it off and put it in a bag of raw rice for atleast a couple of days.. Open all your flaps and then put it.. Don't turn it on until u r sure atleast most of that water is gone..

Thanks. Lesson learned.
It seems this it for my Z2. I did the pictures before, what i did different was to leave it in my side poket for about 30 seconds. It probably was 2 feet deep. They say 3 feet should be fine. Also the flaps get dirty from time to time, and it doesn't close well enough. I'd probably be back when there is no flap. The Z4 seems to be going in the right direction.

Had similar experience taking pictures and videos under water and after about an hour or two it was still fine. I only started seeing tiny dew on the main camera when the phone starts to heat.
The next day I have to open the back and clean the dew. It was just some three tiny dots but directly in front of the camera lens so taking a picture is blurry.
After cleaning it, covered it back and it's normal as before.
As for your own, water probably entered the front panel and that could affect the screen permanently and would probably need replacing the screen if you want it the way it was.
But I think you should let a good phone service person open it and see, it could be that the water is between the digitizer and the LCD. In that case could be cleaned.

yeah it sucks though. if its as you say, i hope the water dries cuz i wouldnt open it myself. i am going to wait another week or so...This is supposed to be my work phone, they gave me an iphone 5s a year ago or so but i got rid of it to get me the xperia. i might just ask for another iphone since my android option with work is pretty much the S5 and i have a note 4... for now this will do to make/receive phone calls and read /send emails

AARGH! My Touch Pro is already dinged!

...it's not even two weeks old and already I've dinged the nice chrome that surrounds the Touch Pro (the Chrome is scratched off and the black underneath now shows.) Anyone know a quick way to cosmetically fix this?
Take it to sprint and get a replacement...
No seriously...
As long as you didnt cause the ding by dropping the phone and it just chipped off there is a known issue with the chrome on the touch pro.
I'm pretty sure (correct me if i am wrong) that the solution is just in-store replacements.

Same suggestion here. As long as the phone does not appear to have suffered a fall, then Sprint will replace it for you.
its all good bro i already dropped mine.
i got a tiny tiny mark on the top left side of the device
no else can see it..but i sure as hell can..
i got another 20+ days tho..if anything ill get a replacement..ill give At&t some bs about my phone not working correctly or whatever lol
Even if you tell them you dropped it, they will still replace it. I thought it was a joke but it is true.
UPDATE
OK, I know what's causing the chrome to chip off. In my original post I didn't explain where the flaking off was happening. It's on the front face, on the right edge. Now, originally I though it was because it dropped a few feet (inside my car, from the center console to the floor), but after looking at it closer I think what's causing the damage is my friggin' case!!! I bought this Body Glove case (http://www.bodyglove.com/products_detail.php?product_id=24491), and after closer inspection, the stitching right where it aligns with the damage on the phone sticks up. I can't explain it properly but basically if I run my finger on that area, I can feel it rubbing against my finger. I'm fairly sure this is what's causing the damage.
Now what's troubling is that when I run my finger over it, it doesn't feel "scratchy" enough on my finger to be doing this damage (basically, I can rub my finger over it over and over again and my finger is fine). So is the quality of the plastic chrome really that bad that it can be damaged by something that won't even cause any type of skin abrasion on my finger if I rub it over and over again?
The damage has grown since my original post. I'm going to sprint and will try to exchange. In the mean time, stay away from that Body Glove case!
sprint will take that back.

well your luck is not as bad as mine. i got my tp on monday and on tuesday i had my phone in my stock htc case. opened the car door and went to grab my phone out of the door pocket and whoops case w/ phone in it hit the asphault before i could catch it. one day in and it chipped the top left corner of the chrome and i can see the black beneath.
i have tep on my sprint plan and went to one store and was shot down asking if i could replace it because they said i dropped it and was my fault and then they said plus u have to wait for 30 days and u will have to call assurion and pay $50 for a refurbished touch pro. bs.
should i try another store? what should i say

My TP had a ding on the upper left corner. I went to a store and told them it's been locking up from day one and got a new one.
update
I went to my local Sprint store and they said they would exchange it for a new one but, of course, they didn't have any in stock nor did any of the other nearby stores. They're supposed to have a UPS shipment of them today and supposed to give me a call. Here's hoping they do.
I looked at the original case that came with the TP and the inside is all smooth, no seams or stitches. I was using this case before I bought that
Body Glove case and looking back on it, the chrome damage did not happen until after I started using that Body Glove case.
So my advice for everyone, if you're not using an Invisible Shield that protects the chrome and you're putting your TP in a case, make sure there's no stitching inside the case where the phone will be sliding in and out. If you do have a case that has stitching on the inside, at the very least make sure all the stitching is smooth to the touch of your finger (including the flap area, basically any area that will be coming into contact with your TP.) Again, the stitching that was sticking out on the inside of the body glove case didn't seem like a big deal when I ran my finger over it but apparently it was enough to scratch and eventually rub off the chrome as I was sliding my TP in and out of the case.
i got a small scratch after 4 days... its on the verry bottom of the screen. im wondering if i can just polish it off. i dont know why they use such easy to scratch material... im really concirend with the cover of the camera and expecily sence its on the bottom and is alwes tuching when you set it down it will be all scratched up in no time...

Dust under camera lens

Hi guys,
I got alot of dust (or maybe something else, like fungus) under my camera lens. It's getting worse and worse. At first I didn't see a big difference, but now it's this bad:

As you can see, it has black dots on the screen and it's very 'foggy'.
What do you guys suggest? Send it back to the store and get it fixed? Will this be in my warranty?
Thanks.

Hello.
I just made myself an account after having received tons of help from this site without ever posting already, so please bear with me if I make any mistakes!
I've read and understood the forum rules, and I have also watched the video.
Is there any solution other than taking the phone to a professional? I have the exact same problem, although there are not as many gray spots, and I can also confirm that it is most definitely dust, seeing as the dark spots are constantly moving, appearing and disappearing.
Thanks in advance!
I recently received my i9100 back from vodafone after my phone developed the same problem - dust inside the camera lens.
I did have to reset my phone to stock and remove any evidence of using custom ROMs, but the fault was covered by the 2 yr warranty. I handed it to vodafone on a saturday and had my repaired phone back within a week. Thankfully I'd made a complete backup image using the clockworkmod app before i sent the phone away, so it didn't take long to have the phone back exactly as it was before. VillainRom all the way.
if its not on the lens [after you confirm it] why not to open the back cover of the device, clean the lens and put it back?
btw - how dust got into the device anyway??

THis seems to be OS problem.I also experienced same problem in my old N82.After reflashing the dot disapeared.
dust returns
Several months after having my phone repaired the dust is getting back into the lens agin. Its not visible on the photos yet, but I'm sure it will only get worse. Bugger.
There are two problems on the posted photos: a pink spot, and some dark spots. I assume we are not talking about the pink spot, as it is is a known problem with cameras on several phones...
As regards to the dark spots, the design of the lens cover should prevent any dust from getting in front of the lens - there is a thin foam gasket around the window on the back of the cover, and the camera module is supposed to be pressing firmly against it when the cover is properly installed, sealing off the dust. In case of dust problems like this I would guess something is wrong either with the cover itself (possibly a missing or damaged gasket), or with the way it's assembled. The camera module itself may also be seated the wrong way somehow.
If your phone is taken care of by a service technician, you can't do much about it, other than ask them to pay an extra attention to this gasket (and we all know how professionals usually react to customers telling them what to do, even though, frankly, a customer may be more qualified for the job sometimes). But if you are willing to open up your phone yourself, it should be fairly easy to spot a problem, because the camera module leaves a very clear impression on the gasket...

Dust seems a real problem with the SGS2 camera ...
I also have some dust ... Hoped to find a nice tutorial on how to remove it by oursleves ... sadly I did not find anything
I've been facing similar issue simce the past 11 months and warranty has already expired. There's one black spot on the right side of my camera images. I'm trying to live with it. Searched the entire Internet, couldn't find any tutorial to open and clean the camera unit. And without any tut I'm not going to open up my device as I'm scared as ****.

What you need is not a tutorial for cleaning the camera, but general disassembly instructions. You can definitely find them, either separate, or as part of the S2 service manual. I've got it, but don't have it handy right now, sorry... You don't need to rip your phone apart, just to remove the backplate. It is very easy, nothing to be scared about. Check my earlier msg just a few posts back, make sure you have a good gasket around the lens piece -- if it's damaged or misaligned, the dust WILL get inside.
I just started having this problem a few weeks ago. One little spec of dust had gotten into the lens of mine. I'm thinking about unscrewing the back of and cleaning it with a glass cloth rather than taking it back to my carrier to get it serviced.
Hey guys, i also was facing the problem with dust on the lense and the covering glass having a lot of tiny scratches. Couldn't take a sharp photo anymore, focussing took ages, so camera was kinda useless at all.
I bought a middle chassis at amazon, costs about 12 €. Today i changed the middle chassis and cleaned the camera lense.
Changing the chassis and cleaning took about 20 minutes, doing everything very carefully and using this tutorial:

So, just wanted to share the results!
See attachments for before and after.

Wow! How is your lens so fogged up??
I got mine replaced a few months back (warranty) and there was only a small dust spec.

This was dropped out of my pocket as I was getting out of the car... so not even from above waist height!
if you go to ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung-Galaxy-S-III-Teardown/9391/2 you can see it mentions the fact that the screen is a fused unit, will be very hard to get an "unofficial" one.
Looks like a sammy only repair job

Pictures posted. can you view them? just got that photobucket account as I am away from home right now.
I have dropped my old SGS2 and SGS from higher than this and I got a light scratch... this has made me loose ALL faith in the build quality.
How come the front and back got damaged at the same time /?????????????????????
Yeah been looking into getting it fixed. Around 3-400$ for the screen then plus the camera housing... may as well buy new phone. Hence the appeal for bricked devices on here...
Saying that, I dropped mine also getting out of the car... It didn't even scratch, just dented the plastic on the side of the screen.
The worrying thing is, the screen is exactly flush with the bezel and so is not protected at all when it falls - you might have been unlucky on how it landed!

Maan... today it happened to me. Dropped out of my pocket when I got out of a cab. The screen is ok, just some tiny scratches at the top right (I can live with that), but the bezel looks like crap at the bottom left, that's probably where it hit the ground after the fall, then falling onto the screen where it got the scratches.
Does anyone know whether the bezel can be repaired or replaced? I guess I was lucky, but still... now I have a shiny new phone that's just a few days old... and it looks like... an idiot dropped it.
Just my Own story
I didn't have my SGS3 for 24 hours yet, and I have broken the screen. I use my phone as a alarm clock, the alarm rang in the morning after getting the phone waking me up, I hit the snooze button and went to put the phone back onto the bedside table, about 3-4 feet off the ground, I guess I slightly miss positioned in in my not so awake state, it fell to the ground, I hadn't thought too much about it as I had way worse falls with my SGS2 and never anything, but wen I picked my phone back up I could not believe that there was a big crack across the screen... I thought Gorilla glass 2 would of been much stronger. I'm very disappointed with the durability, I can live with it but every time I look at the unit it just reminds me of how easily that was broken, and it disappoints me all over again, I don't see a big reason to spend the ridiculous amount of money to replace the screen for the one crack across the screen, BUT it sure is a sore thumb.
Overall I'm extremely happy with my Samsung Galaxy SIII but VERY disappointed with the durability. I guess it is also my fault, I was so EXTREMELY satisfied and happy with my SGS2 that wen they released the S3 I just jumped on the occasion to get it and never waited for any reviews and customer testimonials as I would normally do wen considering buying anything, especially something at this price range. I will however learn from my mistake.

[Q] Need advice about broken Galaxy S4

It was just in the water for only 10 seconds but the board looks like it was discovered on the titanic. Obviously the phone did not turn on.
I took the phone and as a last resort let it sit for a day in distilled water and dried it off.
Just for a laugh I put it back together and to my amazement the phone freaking turned on. I heard the Samsung jingle, I saw the menu and back buttons turn on and I was able to see it as a drive in my computer. The only thing that is not working is the screen.
I decided to take apart the phone again but only this time using a baking soda and water paste to take off the rest of the corrosion.
It worked out surprisingly well making the board look brand new but the screen still did not turn back on.
My question to you is do you think the screen is bad or is it something wrong with the board that is not allowing it to display. I want to get a new screen for the phone but I don't want to spend $200 on a new screen/digitizer to find out the phone still doesn't display properly. What do you think I should do?

Theres usually a 1 year warranty from Samsung. I don't know if it covers water damage. That's why I always get the Verizpn insurance or BestBuy or both. You can try amd add Verizon imsurance then wait a few days then do a claim.

I think the phone has a 1yr manufacture warranty. It covers hardware issues like your sensors don't work and other stuff except water damage and broken screens.

How healthy is your Ultra?

Since you bought it, has your battery decreased in durability? Are any of the power/volume buttons damaged through normal use? Flaps still in place? Any bad scratches? Have you noticed any slowdowns of the NAND memory? Anything else?
I've owned mine for 7 months now, and it's still like new. I can get two days of use out of the battery, and the buttons are fine. I've dropped it on the floor once (naked), but it took no damage, fortunately. I've since kept it in a case and with two tempered glass protectors. It should last at least a couple of years more, I think. Very happy with the build quality of this device and will definitely consider another Sony when the time comes.
I'm on my second GPe, the first one kept freezing/rebooting on me. Other than that, the phone has been fantastic.
Since I made this post, my phone has spontaneously rebooted on me twice while watching YouTube videos. This really sucks.
*edit*
My problems are stemming from something I've installed on both phones. The likelihood of getting two phones that exhibit this same rebooting problem is slim, and I can find no instance of other people having these problems, no matter how deeply I search the web. After factory resetting this second phone, and installing absolutely nothing on it, I'm not getting any reboots.
Three months having this phone now.
Got unlucky and dropped it before I got a case, on hard floor, but luckily only a scratch on the right corner.
Other than that, everything is fine.
Love this phone.
Need to replace the flap that covers micro usb charging port, it was my fault as I put it in tool pouch I use for carrying it in without closing and it snagged when taken out and broke.
The usb port flap might cause some problems. The rubber part in mine fell off and i ordered another flap from ebay. I sure hope it works

software running fine...
micro scratches on the front.. deeper scratch at the back.. i'm sure it's just the ASF that has scratched
dented corner from dropping it once

I put good screen protectors on the front and back of mine because I knew the ASF would get scratched. I definitely don't want go through the ordeal of chiseling those off.
Mine drop 3 times, ear speaker broken, scratch and dent at corners, screen perfect, battery still good,USB flap change once.
1 year this October Well battery life is still about the same, maybe a little bit lower but that might get affected by other factors. Got smashed on the magnetic dock lip, initially the metallic strip got bent out of the body but i straightened the metal manually and almost no visible damage. the rubber on the USB port almost got detached but thankfully it hasn't, still water proof. using tempered glass on both side. Still going strong.
45days now and so far running alright. Just upset at how quickly the oleophobic coating started wearing off and a tiny bit disappointed that the top and bottom bezel is plastic so mine has the coating chipping off on our end order from a drop. I don't know if it me or everyone has this but the screen is just too sensitive by default. Whenever there would be wind I get random presses all over but I've increased the filter for touch sensitivity so it's all good for now.
Very good build
Been using Ultra since 10 months. Dropped 3-4 times no any damage, battery defiantly last for at least 24 hours, since I am very heavy user watch movies or you-tube at least 2-3 hours a day and browse net for least 1 hour and play games as well so considering my use I would say defiantly battery life is good might decrease performance little bit. just damaged USB cover and i would say its my fault reason I never covered it proper since got this phone. other then this everything as new. I am really happy with this phone.
Well that was almost a very expensive 1 hour call back to work tonight.
As I was about to leave work at 8pm I dropped the new GPe on to the concrete floor. I'm lucky that it was in a flip cover, but I still broke the top plastic bezel after breaking the cover. It bounced and then landed on the bottom right corner and cracked the cover there as well.

Damn blue...I'm really sorry to hear that this happened to you. I suppose it could have been worse though eh? Have you ordered the replacement trim piece yet? if you do replace it, please take some photos of how it's all done :fingers-crossed:
^ yea would love to know too. Been meaning to see how the replacement is done. Like do you need to dismantle the phone to replace it is it like a clip on? Stuff like that
it looks like it is just glued and clipped in with the aluminum case under it
I'm 12 months in, and my ZU is still kicking like a champ. I dropped it on the ground a few weeks back and it scratched the bottom left bezel a little bit, but other than that, it's totally fine. The ASP on the back has a lot of scratches, but i don't care since i can remove/replace it. I'll probably hold on to my ZU until the Z3X or something comes along. I've been super happy with Sony, so i'll probably stick with them. No point in upgrading this year though (unless you have something weaker than the S800). No point in upgrading to 801-805 if you have the 800. 810 will make things interesting again.
