[Q] SGS2 doesn't get any signal with WIND Canada - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I have a problem with my phone.
Model number: GT-I9100
Androiud version: 4.0.4
Baseband version:I9100XXKG6
Cyanogenmod version: 9-20120523
I've bought a WIND sim card and it works fine with a nokia phone, but somehow it doesn't work with my SGS2 at all.
I mostly don't get any signal with it , just once in a while a full signal but I just can choose Roger and Mobilicity as network. There is no WIND network and I can't do any phone calls or something.
I don't know what to do because it just works fine with the Nokia phone.
I changed the Custom Rom to WIUI and stock rom but no change.

Probably because that phone doesn't have aws frequencies it only works on bell rogers telus virgin
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

when I used WIUI it shows not Rogers and Mobilicity anymore but only WIND HOME and WIND AWAY, but I can't be registered on both.

It will be impossible to connect to Wind Home. Wind uses the 1700 UMTS frequency (same as T-Mobile USA) and the i9100 supports UMTS 850/1900/2100. The only SGS2 that supports the AWS frequency is Telus' SGS2X.
You now have three options if you want to use your phone:
1) Buy a new phone that's AWS compatible
2) Connect to Wind Away and enjoy roaming charges for everything
3) Switch to another Carrier that's not based on AWS

I'm sure I've got a sms from WIND after togging up saying I'm good to go.
And even when I use the Roger Network, I can't do any calls or anything.
Why is that so?

The answer above hasn't changed. Just because you can see the networks doesn't mean your phone supports the frequency required to make calls. Sim card doesn't matter either because its the network that's the problem.

Network realted question. Please help!

Howzit guys,
I brought a HTC Aria in the USA on AT&T network. I came back to SA and rooted my phone put Android v2.2 on (phone came with v2.1) thinking that would unlock the phone, but it didn't. I ended up looking on the net for a website that I could get an unlock code for my phone. Long story short, I found one, paid for it and it worked. I'm using the phone on Vodacom no matter what I do I can't get 3G or HSDPA to work, only GPRS. HSDPA and 3G work fine in the states.
After doing some research I noticed that in the Mobile Network settings on the phone there is 3 options under Network Mode:
1. WCDMA only
2. GSM only
3.GSM / WCDMA auto
Now from what I've seen I need to use WCDMA to get the 3G / HSDPA to work, but when I select option 1. I don't get any signal and then phone eventually switches to GSM automatically. I was at work on the weekend helping a customer with her laptop and she had a 8•ta 3G modem, and 8•ta 3G modems are currently running off of MTN's network I was told this by an 8•ta technician and I noticed when connecting the modem it said something regarding WCDMA.
So now my question, if I change to MTN do you think I will be able to use 3G / HSDPA on my phone?
Any info regarding this will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
The American version of the Aria uses different 3G frequencies (because that's what AT&T uses), so unfortunately your phone will not work with 3G in South Africa. There is a different version of the Aria (called Gratia in most regions) that is the exact same phone except it supports the correct 3G frequencies for your country, but there's nothing you can do with the phone you have now to make it work.

SIM unlocked my T-Mobile phone but unable to use a Telus SIM

I bought the unlock code for my Optimus T / v10h / P509 running rooted stock 2.2/Froyo and it worked, then I took out my T-Mobile SIM card and tried my girl friends Telus SIM, and it gets no signal. If she enters the IMEI into the thing on their website, it says the device is imcompatable. As far as I can tell, the phone is technically compatable with Telus Mobility's network, even though my T-Mobile devices roam on Roger's when using my SIM. Even checked the band on her LG Breeze and it's the same crap that spec sheets give for the radios in the Optimus One family. Like wise, Telus sells an Optimus One / P500h / v10g device running Gingerbread! Roger's and Telus even use the same bloody frequency for this hardware AFAICT!
When we load her Telus SIM, every thing works, no warnings or messages, it just reports NO SERVICE and gets no signal.
Thought that maybe /etc/apns-conf.xml was missing the info for Telus, and it was, so I copied the entry from my ASUS Transformer, and no luck on reboot. I'm not sure if that's needed for SMS or just mobile data and MMS though but know it wouldn't hurt.
She has a pre-paid texting setup with Telus and a GSM feature phone. Not sure how that impacts swapping her SIM to my old Optimus T; I've always been on contract with voice/text/data but I don't see any issue, since I've seen pre-paid versions of the Optimus One and adding data isn't worth it if it doesn't work.
I've considered trying to find the Telus firmware and have her try flashing it but I'm hesitent, her feature phone does texting fine and via WiFi the Optimus T does at least handle the "Smart" phone stuff. We do have a nandroid backup via CWM5.
Does anyone have any ideas of how to get texting to work on it?

Optimus t is AWS phone, with 2G/Edge/GSM capability
telus network is UMTS 3G and does not have a 2G/Edge backup
telus old network is CDMA
So I take it that means the OT is expecting to find a 2G GSM/GPRS/EDGE network on the 850/1900 band and to find a 3G UMTS/HSPA+ network on the 1700/2100 band (UMTS band IV); and not smart enough to deal with finding Telus's 3G UMTS/HSPA+ network on 850/1900 instead of an EDGE network, lovely.
Any clue if something like that would normally be built into the cellular radios hardware, or implemented in the firmware?
When I looked up her Breeze, it was marked as GSM 850/900/1800/1900 and UMTS/HSDPA 900/2100, so I assumed if that worked with Telus, so would the Optimus T. Guess I was a tad dumb there :-/.

[Q] AT&T Titan Use in United Kingdom UK

I just purchased an AT&T branded Titan for use on T Mobile here in the USA. I didn't do my research properly and I just assumed I would get at least 3G. It seems not. However all is not lost if I can just unlock it and use it on my trips back to Scotland.
If I unlock the AT&T Titan will I have any issues just popping a UK SIM in there? Does it run better on some providers?
Thanks

You will need to check with the Carrier that you are going to use the Titan over there... and see which bands of HSDPA that they support. The UK Version of Titan seem to be supported 850/900/1900/2100 , but i don't think the AT&T version support 900 band tho. You will have to recheck.
Good Luck.
And yes, you need to get the SIM-Unlock code based on the IMEI of the phone and then you can insert any sim in and the phone will use it just fine as long as the carrier able to provide network for it.
Looks like you will only be able to use it on GPRS
UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+ tri-band (2100/1900/850 MHz) and quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and LTE BC4/BC17
Thanks for the replies. It makes no difference to me what network I use .
I'm having a hard time understanding the differences.
If I look at this page it lists what my phone supports..
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_titan-4027.php
Looking at this it seems my specs match up with most major UK providers
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mobile_network_operators_of_Europe#United_Kingdom
Therefore shouldn't it work?
If it is limited to GPRS what are the limitations?
Thanks
Yep in theory it should, Just double checked and I posted specs for Titan2 oops
At&t Titan ie: Frequencies HSPA+/WCDMA 850/1900/2100 MHz and Quad-band GSM/GPRS/Edge 850/900/1900 MHz, Its missing 1800mhz for UK which basically means you cannot use T-mobile or Orange, But Vodafone or O2 or anything running 900mhz should be fine.
The 2G band list says "quad-band" but then only lists 3 bands. I'll bet that's a typo and that all 4 bands are supported.
I've used my unlocked AT&T Titan with local SIMs in numerous countries on 2100MHz 3G... works great.
I have at&t Titan from US in London with O2. Sometimes it woks fine on 3G sometimes doesn't work at all. I forced it to use only 2G and then it works fine.To force the phone Enter code ##3282# Then go to the Three blue dots on the right corner go to settings and in network type choose 2G or 3G depending on what you want.
Received my Titan 2 today from Across the pond, It's at&t branded but unlocked, It is working fine and shows 4G lol, I know it is just a 3G connection but no problems using it on O2, Had to manually input APN settings in cellular and that was it
Well that smile didn't last long, Can't send pic messages, Any ideas?
Hi AndyFZ1S have you tried the connection setup application from htc? Thats what i usedwhen i moved here and it worked fine. Still my 3g connection is poor or inexistant is most areas, i believe at&t phones are missing one band.

^@andres22, Thanks & yes have tried connection set-up but it says the carrier is not in the database etc, 3G works fine I just cannot send or receive picture messages, There is no option to manually put in the settings either so am kind of stuck really,
Uhmmm funny that my setup apolication has O2 settings and yours not. Sorry man. I cant think of anything else.

No problem, It may well be you have a different database on your at&t Titan compared to the at&t Titan2, Never mind, Hopefully there will be a way to sort it.
I'm having similar issue with Titan 2 using on T-Mobile US. MMS is the only issue. T-Mobile does carry Nokia 710 and HTC Radar. I wonder if there is a way to get settings from those phones.
Sent from my HP Touchpad using xda premium
The only way I can think of doing it is by flashing either a Stock Titan2 ROM (if it exists) or a custom one, That way Connection set-up would have most of the carriers in its database and not just at&t, But that won't be possible without HSPL or any ROMs, Maybe HTC could do something their end to update connection set-up etc?

Rom change for faster internet

I have a Htc desire, the original. Originally its unlocked from purchase and its from the UK, I have now traveled abroad to Canada and got a plan with data, but the fastest connection I can get is 'E' edge. In the UK it was atleast 'H' hsdpa. I thought it would be the APN setting that were not correct but I have tried everything I can find and still it only connects to Edge. I recently went back to the UK and it went back to a hsdpa connection. Is this something to do with frequency or a rom change that can help me connect with hsdpa in Canada. I asked this question here as this may apply to all phones and not just my htc desire.
Did you try to manually switch to 3g? It's under mobile networks in settings.
life!
If you mean Network Mode and then switch that from GSM/WCDMA from auto to WCDMA, I tried that, it loses connection to the network operator and just stays like that until I switch it back.

The carrier you use probably has HSDPA on the 850/1900 frequency, and the HTC Desire you bought in Europe is likely 900/2100. So no, you won't get HSDPA in Canada.
For verification, what carrier are you using in Canada?
I think you can't get faster Internet, because of the different frequencies.
Try to exchange the phone and get one that also works in Canada.
Im using Fido in Canada.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S3 AT&T SGH-i747 3G not working in India

Hi,
Recently I happen to move to India from USA. I had Samsung Galaxy S3 - SGH i747 purchased in in US, which was under 2 year contract. I tried to call AT&T guys to give me unlock code but they didn't give me since my contract was not over.
I moved to India and tried to unlock my phone from local shop. I am able to make/receive calls now having these issues.
1. 3G is not working . When I see different available bands in my phone using *#2263#, it shows WCDMA 850, 900, 1700, 1900 and WCDMS IMT2000 under WCDMA band preferences. I am using Vodafone in India which runs on UMTS 2100. I visited Vodafone store couple of times but they are not able to help me. How do I get 2100 frequency in my phone ?
2. Currently I have set preference to run my phone on GSM Band so 2G is working. There are certain areas in my city where Vodafone 2G is also not working. In those areas, I don't receive any call even though I have very good network coverage. I tried switching off my mobile network in case I can receive calls but its of no help.
Request for your to resolve this. I am fed up with this nice working phone and need to purchase new one if these issues don't get resolved.
Thanks
