With all these new rooms and bases I have a few questions. This is my second note (stolen) my first was rooted on Saurom GB. My replacement is on stock at the moment. I am Contemplating waiting until the official att update comes out for ICS.
If I root I lose the Att OTA update unless I flash back.
On an ICS rom at this time there is no S Pen support correct?
What's the difference between all these radios? It sounds like the modem may work better under some.
Is battery life better or worse proven?
Thanks.

If you root, you Wont lose OTA updates...only if you flash the leaked ICS. BUT when it does officially release, you can flash back to stock and update it. No biggie.
S Pen is fully supported on the ICS leaks. On SOME Roms however, might not fully support it.
The radios....because some people got better reception on gingerbread and some people are on Tmobile using the AT&T Note. Therefore the different modems to flash.
Ah....the battery life question, this has been the number one question ever since the Note came out. Simple as this....some people claim better battery life, some claimed worse. Some claimed about the same. So theres really not a straight answer for it. In my experience, on ucle2 ics leak, battery was better than the ucld5 and ucld3 leaks.

With this new 2.3.4 Leak out for our Thunderbolts. I was wondering from past leaks from HTC about how long till we actually see an OTA? If said particular leak makes it through all testing. Month? 2? 3? anyones guess ?
I'm unrooted with the new OTA that rendered my TBolt with random rebooting and battery life decreased significantly. I don't think I want to root just yet or a least until the phone isn't updated anymore by HTC.
Any Thoughts?
I dont know, most of my experiences with leaks stem from the fascinate. Thats a different story though. Htc said by the end of June, so id expect it by at least mid July. If I put money on it i'd say mid June though.
running the leak now...it's a beta for sure but i'm gonna keep as my daily driver so they aren't too far...however it between HTC and Verizon it's gonna be a while still. I'd go ahead and root cuz the android community is way ahead of the OTA's...i've been running the leaked version of the OTA for over a month...now i'm on the new gingerbread leak.
besides once you root, you can pick and choose what you want...if gingerbread has too many bugs, i'll just flash back to one of the custom rom's and kernels...either way you're far above anyone who is unrooted...good luck!

+1 Root & Profit.
If "No", please let us know why you chose to hold off, and if/when you plan to upgrade to the leak/ and or OTA.
I will start.
I chose not to upgrade yet.
Mainly because, if anyone reading this was around during the Eris, 2.1 leaked fiasco, you will understand my new and improved policy of waiting at least 3 full days on anything leaked.
Anyway, I also am holding out because
1) Joelz (I hope) will be making a patch for us folk who are waiting.
2) I have been getting better batt life on GB
3) hasn't been 3 days yet.. but now that the firmware is out, I may be editing this post in a couple days.
Reminds me of the 3 day rule for not calling a chick after you get her number. HAH!
I went ahead and updated....we'll see how this goes.
I just upgraded to CleanROM 3.7, so I'm going to wait for the official release of ICS before I flash a next ROM.

I voted No... ICS is not that big of a deal for me. My phone is #1 a business tool and having it work is more important that how it looks. That being said, I am quite content right now with GB, how the device looks and works. Battery life is acceptable and I can use all of the tools I need to use. It is one very AWESOME phone as it is right now.
This might change if I see a lot of users using it without a lot of issues, but I might just wait until the Official OTA arrives.
There are more things to life than ICS....
Never ending... after the masses gets ICS they will want JB and then they will demand KLP.... it never ends.
I did almost bricked in the process as well
But all in all I say its worth it. We atleast have a method to downgrade the hboot if needed

I am holding off until I see there are no issues AND there is a way to get back to stock GB via Ruu in the crazy case I need to return to Verizon.
They may not check much but I'd rather be safe since 4.0 is noticeably different.

You can ruu back with the mainver fix
Unless you haven't unlocked it yet

Nope still on GB. when the ota comes and custom kernels for ICS ill take the plunge. Still hoping for cm9 as well.
I have upgraded but I'm having trouble with the service.
Phone keeps telling me to insert a sim card when I already have one...
Just saw in Scotts ics thread you can't go back to Gingerbread after Ics ruu (he even updated his op).....so I will be holding off....at least until gets proven otherwise
Edit: now Scott is saying you can go back but there's a sd issue...however he said there is a fix....
so looks like I will keep on waiting for everyone else to be the guinea pigs lol

I didn't vote because there's no option for "I'm on the second ICS leak and waiting for more ROMs to be based off of the third leak".
I just hope there will be a Rom that doesn't require the ics ruu as a prerequisite.
I am sure those of us with our tin foil hats would really appreciate it.
Also I can only imagine the forums whenever the official release comes and by chance it doesn't play nice with the leak.
Looks like gb for me, unless there's a Rom that doesn't require this leak. Guess time will tell...hopefully everything works out for everyone but I will just err on the cautious side.

I voted "no", though it is tempting, but its still early development.

That was the worst.. What was it? something like a few days after the 2.1 leak had been out, root was attained (but only if you hadn't installed the leaked firmware)?
Anyways, I installed the newer firmware despite all this. I have confidence the Dev section here will carry us through any issues that arise
I did last night. Scary but easy. Clean Rom 4.0 seems absolutely flawless this far. Battery is great. Stopped using extended battery its so good lol.

new firmware
I got the AndroidPolice all-stock zip of the new VZN ICS. Experimented all day with it including the TAMPERERED warning, and other stuff. Found out that when 100% bone stock, the new ICS will allow you to freeze/eliminate all the things I don't use, like VZN Navigator, Twitter, Trneds, NFLMobile, Lets Golf,Hot Pursuit, Freindstream, etc. So, I am ReLocked, and stock and happy because a bunch of bloaty things don't start and can't be seen in the app drawer. Bottom Line: the new ICS is gonna be so great, some folks won't have to unlock to get exactly what they want. Warning: if you check it out, getting back to GB isn't impossible, but it's a hassle.

Yessir, no root was for me. lol, after about a week, I ended up calling CS and getting a refurb, they said nothing about the phone being on a leak lol.
i would rather wait a get the official OTA firmware. rather than some leaked ****.
I am currently rooted with Amon Ra recovery running CleanRom 4.4 with the firmware that came with the phone, not the new, leaked firmware. I have tried out the new Venasaur sense 4.0 rom and have been ready to flash some of the others to try out my question is whether I would benefit from "upgrading" to the newer leaked firmware or leaving it as is and using the patches found with almost every rom. I'm just looking for the pros and cons either way I guess and which I would benefit from the most, thanks!
if using gb firmware and radios....don't change if you're happy with the temperature and usage. 50/50 change you'll get extra heat and less usage if you upgrade
Just upgrade. It'll make your life easier. When people gush over how much the changes did to their signal, battery life, etc.. I tend to tune out, but it'll make flashing easier, and there might be some benefit.

it did the opposite for me....
I usually don't notice much on firmware upgrades but moving from gb to ics firmware did make a noticeable difference. With gb I could get 4g in part of my house and it would fade in and out at work. Ics firmware gives me a consistent 4g signal at both.

I just upgraded to the leaked firmware (RUU) this morning, and now I'm getting 4g in the warehouse where I work. I used to barely get any reception at all on the gb firmware. I'm getting about the same, maybe a little better battery life, but the heat has gone down tremendously. I'm on cleanrom due 1.4 ATM, but I want to try out team pkmn's from soon. Just gotta figure out if I can use the current 3.14 kernel with it, since it is sense 4.0.

You have to use the kernel that comes with it though I believe it is based on the latest leak.
Is there any benefit really of going to an ICS leak vs staying on GB kernel with ICS ROM ( Axiom AOKP ICS)? (If I do flash to ICS leak at this time I'd stick to the ones where I can still fastboot to 181.) I am leery of anything that gets me stuck, because I'm still under warrantee and also afraid I mighty not be able to ota to the official release once it happens (certainly not holding my breath that it will happen today). Just wondering if anyone has a quick idea of what I would be gaining (and losing) if I went to the ICS leak after using this ROM. I know I would lose ROM control, which sucks, but I don't really know what I might gain. Thanks so much!
Edit: in particular, is hardware acceleration better on the leaks than on ICS roms not running on the leaks? Mostly: Does Netflix work with any of the leaks? Thanks

Hard to believe nobody has an opinion on this with how many posts I see about the leaks! Your opinions / advice will be greatly appreciated
Personally I avoid the leaks. They could be the official release or full of tons of bugs. My first priority is a functioning phone due to work, the bells and whistles are put on the back burner.
When ICS officially releases I don't want to lose my chances getting it by upgrading to a leak. Al though I'm sure the community will find a way to receive the OTA regardless of the current state of your phone, I'd rather not spend hours upon hours reverting back and forwards firmware-wise.
If you can deal with bugs and such then by all means go for the leak
At this poit in don't think is worth tring a leak, ics will be realeased soon (oh well not sure but i hope that is it XD) in the worst case waiting about 15 days is ok

I REALLY don't think that 15 days is the worst case scenario..
But anyway... Thanks for your opinions. However, I'm really looking for information from people who have tried the leaks.. Especially whether or not Hardware Acceleration is working better on leaked ICS vs ICS ROMs on GB Kernel. Those who have tried the leak, do you see any real benefit to running it vs running any of the ICS Roms that can be flashed over non-leaked firmware versions (.181 mostly)? Thanks
The dangers of the methods people are using to get these leaks running aren't worth the trouble in my opinion. 209 works pretty well from what Ive seen, but the BP tools thing seems to cause intermittent problems. Its a matter of how far you are willing to go to have it now.

Well, i ended up flashing .79 ICS leak (since out can be reverted to GB) and it works great! Netflix works fine, my 4g is stable and the system is snappy. I'm not going to update to a later leak and get "stuck" but I think I'll try this out until the official OTA drops then I'll revert to stock and upgrade. thanks everyone
I'm debating or no to update from JB to KK. The JB seems to be running sluggish lately. I remember when the NAB KK update came out many people had too many issue but how is the NC5 update?? how is battery life? performance? what are the biggest advantages
my jb was sluggish today so I just re flashed the original Rom. stable and fast again. ymmv.

Yea I'm aware of that and I did it to my other note 3 a few days ago. Signal was better but at expense of more battery drain. Also my text and call hardware radio died. So I had to replace it. Not sure of related. But the NC5 radio is better then NAB radio. I also always had better battery life with JB.
I had a hard time getting used to the specifics because kit kat will not let you flash anything unless it matches the kernel or goes in order of creation. But even though it seem harder it's worth the trouble it's a lot more stable than any other Android biulds. And you can figure out how to unlock wife and change your radios and customize all that

This unlocking wife seems interesting. Do you have to beat a certain level or is it automatic.
