ICS Beats Audio? - HTC EVO 3D

My Evo 3D is running MeanRom ICS v1.7, and I have the beats audio package installed that is included with the MeanRom folder. I turn on Beats on and off and notice absolutely no difference. I'm thinking this is because of the kernel im running, but i wanted clarification. I've used Beats on Gingerbread sense 3.0/3.5 roms and noticed a difference in the quality. I'm Htc-dev unlocked and my Hboot is 1.5 S-On. i have to run Anthrax-htcleak-stockfirmwaretext.zip as my kernel. This has its own problems, such as no USB file transfer, no 3D, and the occasional reboot. Is this kernel affecting beats audio?
Thanks!

Same problem here didn't notice any difference with Beats Audio, also my ring tone sounds lower even if I have it on Max volume.

Anthrax Does break 3D but will not break beats, from my understanding beats will only be enhanced in headphones and not speaker. Im on 1.7 and I can hear the difference although I dont see the icon while playing music.

Noticed the same thing. If I enable or disable Beats in ANY ics rom, I hear a pop in my headphones, but no sound difference (like I did in GB). Also, none of the equalizer apps work (like DSP Manager) either. I can make changes, but no sound difference. On the GB ROMs, they worked perfectly. Hopefully the official Sprint release will fix the issue, but I'm not holding my breath.
Having said that, I've noticed that the default levels on ICS are MUCH better than those of GB. In fact, I almost don't need any equalizer apps, especially with the sound enhancers built into the HTC Music app.

We don't need them to. It works well in the Gingerbread roms, even though the talented devs on Xda added it, not Sprint. It is just not working right on ics.

I just grabbed the cdma version from here without the theme, Beats bass mod by Bassini. The beats icon even pops up without headphones and seems to be substantially louder http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1641609

I think beats cannot run with new base yet.

Hopefully (by user request) we can get this baked into the roms where Beats is included but not working right.

[Q] What do you want in a ROM for the Amaze?

I'm thinking on maybe making one. Just wanted some feedback.
I'll probably will be basing it off the Telus RUU.
I'll try to make all the apps that aren't needed system apps uninstallable.
The end product is probably going to be a sense 3.0 based rom with a few rosie tweeks. It will have no "factory" apps that you can't get from the market. It'll have a stock look and feel. It'll have a better battery life since there's a lot of apps that won't be running in the back ground anymore. With that, more responsive.
What do you guys think? Would you try it? Do you think it'll be too similar to the other roms out there?
I've never been to big of a fan of Sense, but I do like to try out new ROMs even if they're Sense-based. That being said, I'll almost always run a third party launcher like GO Launcher Ex or ADW Launcher Ex, so the top priority for people like me (who prefer AOSP) I would guess is the smoothness outside of HTC Sense. Battery life, performance tweaks, CRT animation, etc is all I can think of right now off the top of my head.
Oh yeah, this is probably just me, but I always thought that the glossy bars and menus on HTC Sense themes get a little too much after a while... I prefer matte or subtle gradients instead
lots of ram, smoothness, aosp "like", like CM builds. fast, fast, fast, battery battery battery battery, battery!!! fast data lock, fast wifi lock, fast gps lock. customizable drawer (# of icons etc.) I as well usually run a 3rd party launcher and lockscreeen, but if these things can be integrated into the rom...then i would save ram, processing power, and battery. Features such as widget locker customization, features such as sense drawer (rosie) but with customizable/tweakable # of icons and other things. Customizable animation in the main screen and customizable dock. I wish I was a developer!!! lol, no extra programs to bog down the rom, if I want it, I'll install in myself!! beats audio or voodoo sound optimization.
most important tweakable bitrate and quality control for the camera.
Beats audio with the little notification where you can toggle it.
Make it fast and stable!
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
Okay, so smoothness, battery, speed, ability to make it look how you want it, beats audio, and picture quality.
Forgive my ignorance, what is beats audio? Is it some kind of equalizer? From what I've seen, it seems to be just a bass booster.
+1! Speed and stability. Any improvement in battery life is a big plus. I would welcome any new developer!

[Q] Beats w/ viper rom nothing after flash .

Installed viperrom rc5 -2 two days ago. I noticed it no longer had beats audio. I flashed the new beats audio 2.17 and it does nothing . No beats symbol when i plug in headphones. Under apps I see HTC beats notifier. But it doesn't seem to be turning on. I followed the directions and cleared data for music and music enhancements. Is there anybody that can help ?
job well done
---------- Post added at 11:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:50 PM ----------
you're the man
As far as I know viperrom was never designed with beats. If a ROM doesn't have the probed coding written into it for beats then it isn't going to work. If you want you want beats audio I suggest flashing a.ROM with beats already in it like infectedrom.
I had viperrom 2.1 redline before this and it had beats Audio. Anyway i'm tired of flashing today. If i can't figure this out i guess ill just live with it. What is Job Well Done Anyway ??? did I do something wrong.

how long has it been since that has been updated? not being a smartass at all, i am just curious.
it would be a good idea for you to just flash a ROM with beats. there is a lot that goes into beats audio at the ROM level, let alone what goes on inside the kernel... audio drivers, codecs, libs... **** man, you just can't flash something like that and expect it to work with some random ROM you flashed, doesn't work that way 80% of the time.
back to square one for you if you want beats.
and i would suggest eternity RLS245 as of last night.

I agree with Cobraboy. The issue is that the kernel you use also has to support Beats. So, since ViperROM uses stock kernel, you would also need something like the Anthrax kernel as well.
I don't personally see why Beats is so great. Every time I try to use Beats, my headphones give a hiss sound that cancels all the benefits of Beats. With a little tuning of DSP Manager that comes with ViperROM, you can get a Beats like experience without the hiss or the hassle of switching kernels.

I know, but the hiss remains with it off, even on non-Beats apps like Pandora. It has something to do with the default gains being set too high (according to MikeyXDA of MeanROM). Over the last week or so, some of the ROMs have fixed it and I look forward to it being fixed in this one too as I think this ROM is spectacular except for that.

Interesting. Even with quiet music, you still do not hear the hiss? With my phone, when I hit pause, the hiss remains for about two seconds until the phone stops powering the headphones. During a quiet song, there is a discernable hiss the entire time. It makes even loud music sound muddy to me.

Agreed. I had to reboot a couple times a day running that kernel (no matter what governor setting I used), with inkredikernel it runs weeks at a time without a reboot.
Well it runs fine on my phone and the add beats drivers are nice.
Note:just thought about it and I've never had a reboot with any kernel including incredikernel.

I've used the Anthrax Kernel with a few different Roms and it would cause Random Freeze ups (battery pull needed) and boot loops. The Max cpu setting is not reliable and it will ramp way up and cause boot loops or freezing.
I dont wanna go back to GB guys. Im finding the sound quality much greater and consistant volumes with Ineffabillis deus ICS compared to all other ICS ROMS i tried. I dont know the technical part of why this would be, but i am very picky about my music and it is much better.

What do you mean a precise answer? Everyone has different taste in music so someone likes beats, someone likes acid audio... It's all about preferences. I use beats but I'm not satisfied with sound, especially when you listen to acoustic music. Didn't try acid so I can't tel you about it. Best thing I can tell you is try them all and see which one works the best for your taste. Who knows - maybe you'll like beats the best

Thanks for your advice, I'll try all of them. . Thanks. First, I will try beats
Beats gives you a deeper bass, good for rap music mostly. I, as a metalhead, prefer acid with noozxoide since that gives me louder volume and more clear, quality audio, which is needed to be able to distinguish every instrument in a fast paced song. But I do have to agree with the others, it all depends on your musical and audio tastes and on the pair on headphones that you use. The better the headphones, the better the sound
But if he is on sense ROM he can't use Acid.
