Ever since I got my EVO LTE on Thursday evening I have not once gotten Google Maps to work. I've tried it on my home network and cell network, but it freezes soon after opening it, doesn't download any map images, and eventually crashes. I have not done anything special to my phone. I have left it as stock to make sure any issues cannot be related to what I hacked on it. I've even powered down and restarted a few times to make sure.
Has anyone gotten Google Maps to work?
Mine works. First time it asks to do an update so make sure to go the market and do an update.
I did an update as soon as I got my phone. Still gets stuck and eventually crashes. I heard someone had problems and they had to get an exchange. I don't want to have to get an exchange, but then again, my Google Wallet hasn't worked. Maybe the two issues could be related?
You should try clearing the app data if you haven't already. Does the GPS work for any other apps?
How do I clean up app data? Where is that? On the sd card?
My Google maps has been forceclosing on my tablet and original EVO'S for a little over a week since the last update.

I cleared the data like you said. I launched Google Maps and it stared to work better and was more responsive. It zoomed into my neighbor hood (it never got that far). But, now it's stuck again. It almost worked. I'm on local wi-fi and it is not downloading any maps.
I finally had a reason to use Google maps today to try it out. It seemed to work fine and was pretty quick on locking onto a GPS signal.
It didn't suffer the map blanking out issue which my photon was doing before I traded it in. That was annoying, nothing like coming up on a turn and having the map go blank so you then miss the turn because you weren't sure where it was. Grrrrrr

SO I and MANY others have been experiencing a "regional restriction" set by either HTC, or the Market on the Flyer, which doesn't exist on any other device (that I know of). I was browsing my Pulse feeds, and came along an article reviewing this app. I thought I'd give it a shot, and sure enough, some of the apps I couldn't install on my Flyer were INSTALLED! I sent the apk's from my phone (EVO 4G) to myself in GMail, and BAMM! I only tried a few, but now have Google Voice, Bank of America, and more on my Flyer! I thought I'd share, since the problem is pretty wide spread, as I've read on MULTIPLE forums... Hopes this alleviates some frustration!

Really strange...I'm in the US and got Netflix no problem...But I can't get Google Voice app nor Bank of America.
Woah ... Now I don't see Netflix in the market. I mean I did before, I installed it. I thought it would be listed with an orange "Installed" beneath it...Maybe it was temporarily there by some random chance and I snagged it??
Launching Netflix it asks me if I want to update, there's a new version. I say ok and it can't find the file to update. So it's definitely gone now and I can't update...But I can hit cancel and use it like normal.

What is up with that restriction? I've been getting the same problem for NFS SHIFT. Can't find gvoice on the market.
And the most annoying one. Is the YouTube videos only playing the first 20 secs of each video. I tried factory reset but nothing.
I got my flyer from ebay, I wonder if there's a way to check this restriction you are talking about.
Btw I downloaded the Google voice apk and it worked. NFS (which I already purchased) won't work even after installing the apk.
I used the app that is linked in the first post to email the .apk for every useful app from my old Droid x and my Evo 4g phones. Without exception, they all work on my HTC EVO View.
When I called HTC about the Bluetooth Hands Free profile not being available on the EVO View / Flyer, I brought-up my frustration about apps that work on the device not being available on the market. He blamed the problem on Google and Sprint. He said HTC had nothing to do with restricting availability of apps.

I wonder if I have an European flyer which has different market ? Google voice is US only, makes sense to exclude it from the UK market. Maybe that's the case ? Is there a way to check?
Also same thing with video restrictions due to location including YouTube won't play on my flyer. Im almost positive that's what's going on, I got it on eBay, so it could be anything, even Asian.

I sideloaded the google voice .apk, then added the EVO View's number to my Google Voice account. The Google Voice inbox Widget works fine and keeps me from having to fool around with my phone while driving. I doubt if it would work with the Flyer, since it does not have a phone number.
Tried to correct spelling, wound-up double posting. If a moderator could delete this one, I would appreciate it.
I tried to use the Telenav app and it says downloading files for first time users, then the screen just goes white. But if I open The Google Maps app and put in a destination, I get to select if i want to use Telenav or Google Maps. If I select Telenav, it seems to work fine. But as soon as I hit menu and exit navigation...it takes me right back to a white screen.
Have anyone else encountered this issue and if so is it a fix for it?
It works perfectly fine on my Shift and my wife's OG Evo
Honestly I've never even launched Telenav, I use Gmaps Navigation pretty heavily though. Can Telenav do anything that Gmaps Nav can't?

I always use GMaps but wanted to give Telenav a try.
Sent from my Evo 3D using the XDA Premium App!
I contacted TeleNav support today and they said they became aware of the 'white screen' issue about 3 hours ago today. This is apparently related to a software version number, I'm not sure what version though.
I have the HTC EVO 4G 3D from Sprint:
Software version: 1.13.651.7
Android version: 2.3.3
TeleNav support said they are working on a fix for this and it should be within the next 3 days.
I've always used maps until I switched to Sprint last month. Telenav is just more accurate to me, more reliable. I use Google for the maps, but telnav for navigation

I've found that uninstalling updates from the application manager fixes all of my 3.1.5 woes. It will eventually update back to current release, but until the market is updated again, this is the best fix i've found.
Also, if you have more than one GMail account on your phone, go to 'my apps' and make sure you've got your main acct. set as the market acct.

same here. I clear it all the time and the uncheck admob, just because. My market hangs all the time and sometimes will not show my apps installed.
Has this been strictly on wifi? I'm having the same symptoms in the market but I've narrowed it down to my wifi being garbage and not holding a connection for any app.
I'm still having the problem today - and on the Sprint network, not WiFi. Other apps work fine, just Market sucks.
Same issue here. Market hangs & won't update apps sometimes. Other times shows an update available but there won't be. Really annoying.
Yep, I've been having market issues since the new market. It really is a pain.
The new market blows chunks, I pushed the old one back. It works well and shows what it needs to show.
I installed the new 3.2.0 market on my Flyer (gotta have root, and the Photon not rooted(yet)). And I haven't had a single problem. It's pretty freakin' sweet. I have I'll post the link in a sec...

Same problem, Galaxy Nexus VZW on JellyBean, was having the issue on ICS as well. Did an uninstall/clear cache...worked for a while, and then started repeating again. Only thing that fixes it temporarily is clearing the app's data.

I had the same problem on the Team Perfection ROM, in addition to it not using my Ivona TTS voice or speaking street names. Clearing cache and data didn't help, neither did an uninstall and reinstall from Play. What DID work however, was installing an older version apk I found (which kept FC for some reason), and then updating that version from Play. (Sorry, I don't recall which version it was, but I downloaded it from Aptoide.) After that, everything worked perfectly again. I noticed other people complaining about the same problem in Play's comments section. Really strange, but at least it works again for me.
Settings > Language & input > text to speech output.
Changing this to Pico TTS fixed it for me.
This has been happening on my phone (Verizon Galaxy Nexus on 4.1.1 JB AOKP build 2) on and off for a few months now, it first started happening right before android 4.1 Jellybean was officially announced. *It was at that precise time that the voice for Google Maps Navigation changed to be the same voice that Google Now uses in Jellybean. I remember there was a period of time where I would hear both voices like they hadn't finished converting all of the speech over to the new voice. It's been ever since then but this problem has been happening, I have noticed the clearing cache seems to sometimes stop it from happening only to return again randomly.

it's mistakes like these that I think makes people annoyed at google.

They won't be releasing the source code for Maps, it's their own proprietary software. Though there are plenty of API's to hook into maps and lattitude so I doubt it will be long before there are numerous widgets in the Play Store.

I don't think the removal of the widget is something Google missed, it's more than likely been removed intentionally.
Edit: It's likely been removed dude to the fact that Lattitude and nearby friends as linked into Google Now, which notifies automatically and has a card. Moving the feature to be an integral part of the OS rather than just sitting in an optional application.
Where did you get this information from? Is it just a guess, as I can not find a "friends" or any kind of Latitude-related card in google now?
If you want it badly enough you could just uninstall the recent maps update, I tried it and could get the widget back.

This worked for me, uninstall then reboot, latitude widget back and auto updates off for maps.
Any chance they will put it back in next release?
Try this
Here is a post from the Verizon forum. I haven't checked it on my phone yet so hopefully this is accurate:
Found it. The shortcut is gone and I can't find any other actual evidence of it but if you go into Google Maps and click the icon in the upper left corner it brings down a menu and latitude is on there.
My Latitude icon is missing as well, but there is a Latitude layer on Google Maps. My friends are still there, its just less convenient to get to.
Yep I think the widget is gone forever and ever lol I have gotten used to using latitude through the maps now
