In a ROM Development thread Ive noticed that someone ported Touchwiz UX to work with certain Custom ROM's. In the Mother thread for the "ux" port, They call it "ux" from sgs3... But the sgs3 comes with touchwiz 5.0... So im confused as to the REAL version of this "named" version. Did the OP from the sgs3 forum assume that the version he was porting was ux, and didnt realize that it was actually 5.0? Or is it the real ux version from the tab 10.1, 8.9, 7.7, and 7.0 plus? Can someone really pin this down.
Also what are the benefits/differences from using the port, and do we REALLY know which version it is(because sgs3 comes with 5.0). Im going to post over there and direct to this thread to clear this up, as well as a post in my ROM DEV thread...
Heck, maybe its an invalid question and you can just call me an idiot and disregard...
But thanks ahead, for the replies.

As far as I know and this is just an uneducated assumption, TouchWiz in general is the actual shell that runs on top of Android kind of like Sense or Blur, etc. It is a framework so calling it TouchWiz 5.0 could refer to the entire framework Samsung has released for SGS3. TouchWiz UX Launcher is probably just the name of that version of the TouchWiz home launcher if I had to guess. Make sense?
Thank you for clarifying, I know youre very busy!

Hi friends! ICS and Nexus Prime has been launched some hours ago. Frankly speaking, not too impressed with Nexus Prime tech specs. Still only 1.2Ghz processor and 5 MP main camera. I think the Nexus is only a demo model of Samsung for new software. The real deal will come in Galaxy S II or III. When can we expect to get the leaked ICS (Android v4.0) for our existing Galaxy S II model here on XDA? Within a month?
Mod edit: Changed title
I wouldn't count on getting it for several months at least
Edit: can a moderator please move this thread to General
Given someone has already demo'd ICS on a GS2 (http://www.androidunite.com/2011/10/16/ice-cream-sandwich-running-on-galaxy-s2/), albeit in a very unofficial fashion, I don't think it'll be long until we see a ROM on here.

Sorry to disappoint you, but that douche just installed the 2.4 launcher some devs built months ago and added the leaked apps. There are alot of visual differences to the original 4.0 launcher. And he never shows any information about the ROM or the kernel... Just another stupid troll on the net.

Wow! Thanks for the video link! Now my guess is that we'll get ICS for SGS II within 2 weeks maximum, right here on XDA

I this "version" doesn't appear the virtual buttons of Home, Back and recent apps, for example.
Now that we have the Android 4.0 SDK do we have developers looking at a port?
it's out?
anyway probably will take a while before there's any good 'stable' roms based on it for everyday use

Yeah mate, it's out and the race is on! Hopefully the SGS2 gets one before the other phones
For the benefit of any of you people new to android.
SDK ports are generally awful, most if not all hardware will not work, and lots of apps will also likely not work.
It is possible to get it to a decent working state but it takes a lot of time and effort and this usually does not occur before we get access to the full sources (based on past android OS releases).
So people are/will be trying this but don't expect a fully working SDK port before we get either an SGS2 official leak rom or a AOSP based rom when it is released (likely in a months time).
@OP
This won't answer your question but you really need to watch it.
Looks like there is a system dump spreading on the web, and think dump is better way than SDK.

LOL. I don't need to watch the "NooB" video link you posted. If you have any news about ICS leak for SGS II, post it here. I asked a very legit question and we got this very useful answer here : http://www.androidunite.com/2011/10/16/ice-cream-sandwich-running-on-galaxy-s2/
So the Noob Video link that you have posted here is not relevant. Wish we had a "dislike" button on XDA
Everyone can watch this video and comment whether this is legit or not : http://www.androidunite.com/2011/10/16/ice-cream-sandwich-running-on-galaxy-s2/

That is NOT ICS, it's just a launcher and some of the apps from ICS.
I had that music app for weeks now.

Video is a fake, different statusbar icons, different font, does not have the same launcher or the home/back/app buttons on the screen.

You DO need to watch the noob video. If you're not a noob then what are you doing posting discussion threads in the development forum?
This is not a development thread which is why I call you a noob and tell you to watch the video. It's also the reason why I've reported this thread and asked it to be moved. PLEASE don't post threads in the development forum unless you are actually developing something.
Thank you.
Gonna see how much i can **** my system by installing all the apks from "ICS Apps Dump"

Hello everybody,
I am new to this forum (props to all for their contributions). I just wanted to know whether there is a chance that the Galaxy Players (I have a GP5) will have an official update to ICS ? I've looked everywhere (Samsung HP, google), I can't find any information about it.
Does anyone here knows anything ?
(Sorry, in case that I'm not in the right forum group)

there is an ICS release in the development section, just look at the CM9 or AOKP threads, those roms are both ICS based.
Very unlikely that there will be an official ICS upgrade. Samsung is having a hard enough time updating their flagship devices like the Galaxy Note, and they've already said the original Galaxy S will not be getting ICS. The Galaxy Player 5.0 is essentially a 5 inch Galaxy S (same cpu/ram) so i doubt it will ever come.
Yeah man... as the other users have said, no chance of original ICS for our player. I imagine even the new Galaxy Player plus won't receive it. I've been using android for a long time on many devices and android atualizations are a pain. Fortunately, we have XDA. =p
There is nothing official from Samsung - though they have said that there is no room in ROM for ICS and Touch Wiz and Samsung seems to be intent on not losing Touch Wiz. Most would have no problem losing Touch Wiz and Samsung is making a wrong decision not to support these relatively new units with updates.
At this point if you want ICS you will have to rely upon a ROM from a site like this. The last thread that I saw here about the ICS ROM for the 5.0 was that it was still in development - there is a beta that is being troubleshooted as there were features that were not working yet.
Hi
I've searched the forum to see if this has been asked before, but couldn't find any thread. If there is on, I am sorry.
I flashed MIUI ROM (actually tried a few, and are now running JB polymorphed), as I've been using MIUI for almost 2 years and love the customization that this ROM brings. However I found the SIII stock Email app to be better than MIUI Email app. Just the visual and functionality was more to my liking.
Does anybody know if it is possible to use stock email app on MIUI ROM? If so; does anyone have a link to the SIII stock email app?
I also have a thread about the customized vibration that was on SIII, but not on MIUI ROM. If anyone can answer that question also, I would highly appreciate it!
Are you wanting the AOSP one or the Samsung one?
The AOSP version ahould be ok but the Samsung one will require the Samsung framework etc...
Good question I don't know what the stock email app on Samsung is. I am thinking of the one that was installed on my S3 when I bought it. I live in Norway.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
That will be the Samsung version I'm afraid, so its not possible...
Ok, thank for your your time and help.
BTW; What is the difference between AOSP and Samsung ?

Samsung rom is made, like the name says, by them and is not Open Source. Some guys, like you and me, but much smarter than me, from the android comunity started a few years ago AOSP which is an Android Open Source Project so everyone can build and generally speaking develop more easy. There are allot of differences, from aestethical perspective but also of functionality. AOSP builds are lighter in most cases than manufacturer's builds, and also in most cases are faster. You can find tons of information on google about this.
The email app from Sammy roms use Sammy framework. This means that one will have to include sammy framework in the AOSP build. An interesting concept developed already by some devs, here on xda (acer73 develops such a hybrid rom, give it a try).
Hello all, been on these forums a while but never really posted that much, never posted in the Galaxy S3 section. I originally started with a Galaxy S2, then went to a HTC One X and I'm not firmly back with the device that i love, the Galaxy S3, however...
I'm a stock person, but i love tweaks/mods, the reason i love Stock so much on the Galaxy S3 is the Smart-stay feature (i don't believe its on any of the custom Roms for the GS3??) and the Multi Window (again i don't believe its available on any custom Roms?).. so I'm wondering if there are any Roms that either keep the two features i love the most in them, and have some nice tweaks/mods. :good:
I'm grateful in advanced to anyone who replies with help

Pretty much all the Samsung based custom Roms have these features
Hi
since your question is not about "best rom" (against rules), but rather about which custom rom's support smart stay and multi window, I will dare to reply

Yep , all features are in custom rom's. Im in uk and there was no update for the phone so I was without stay smart, multiwindows etc but now all is here. Look for best rom that suits you as i already tried 4 different before choosing The One.
Good Luck!
I tried CyanogenMod 10.1 but that doesn't have SmartStay or Multi-Window in??

Not sure if you aware of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335530
a lot ported Touchwiz launchers that I am aware of are based on old S3, but skined to look like S4, Note3, or even S5. There's no real port that I am aware of, that's because it soo embeded into system frameworks, libs,..etc, probably many developers having hard time to port it.
but couple of developers got together and able to port HTC Sense 6 Apps, Blinkfeed, launcher, all good stuff (see link below)..I was monitoring this thread when they start work on it, so if couple of developers come together, everything possible as it seems. it seems it is just not many developers intersted on Touchwiz launcher. I know prvious Touchwiz launcher was really bad, but I believe Samsung come along good and made a lot of improvement on newest Touchwiz launcher that's on new devices.
