[Q] SIII Email app on MIUI - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I've searched the forum to see if this has been asked before, but couldn't find any thread. If there is on, I am sorry.
I flashed MIUI ROM (actually tried a few, and are now running JB polymorphed), as I've been using MIUI for almost 2 years and love the customization that this ROM brings. However I found the SIII stock Email app to be better than MIUI Email app. Just the visual and functionality was more to my liking.
Does anybody know if it is possible to use stock email app on MIUI ROM? If so; does anyone have a link to the SIII stock email app?
I also have a thread about the customized vibration that was on SIII, but not on MIUI ROM. If anyone can answer that question also, I would highly appreciate it!

Are you wanting the AOSP one or the Samsung one?
The AOSP version ahould be ok but the Samsung one will require the Samsung framework etc...

Good question I don't know what the stock email app on Samsung is. I am thinking of the one that was installed on my S3 when I bought it. I live in Norway.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

That will be the Samsung version I'm afraid, so its not possible...

Ok, thank for your your time and help.
BTW; What is the difference between AOSP and Samsung ?

Samsung rom is made, like the name says, by them and is not Open Source. Some guys, like you and me, but much smarter than me, from the android comunity started a few years ago AOSP which is an Android Open Source Project so everyone can build and generally speaking develop more easy. There are allot of differences, from aestethical perspective but also of functionality. AOSP builds are lighter in most cases than manufacturer's builds, and also in most cases are faster. You can find tons of information on google about this.
The email app from Sammy roms use Sammy framework. This means that one will have to include sammy framework in the AOSP build. An interesting concept developed already by some devs, here on xda (acer73 develops such a hybrid rom, give it a try).

Lots of Roms but what's the plan?

Before I start, I need to pay my respects to the developers for all the great effort trying to make our ACES one hell of a phone.
Ok, if we were to sum it up as far as cyanogenmod development goes for the Samsung Galaxy Ace we have the following:
1. BehradGH Rom stable but some bugs or apps that don't work. A bit heavier than the following
2. Grif_07 Rom which appears to be the most stable
3. CM7.2 BY J.A.F which is developed by Russians who made a very good job and this one seems to be the fastest so far and very stable. This based on Grif_07 if I am not wrong. A thread started for this one, I believe this one has minor bugs cause I am testing it.
...And of course lots of others that diserve recognition
So if there's going to be an official version on which version is going to be based on and who's deciding for that? How's the whole thing going? Cause as far as I can see we get new roms probably from different working groups quite often but what's the point if they all choose their own path? I mean someone should decide the path so all the developers can work it out and reach the destination --> The Official version of Cyanogen for Ace. I would appreciate and I believe not only me but a whole lotta bunch of people if we were told what's the plan. Just a few words.
I see many great ideas in here, for example jusada took the first two roms and modified them to barebones. Really nice move and quite impressive roms, fast and quite stable but again not bug free (oh man, why you stopped dealing with this???).
Anyway, a few words from the right people would be great. I love cyanogen and I would go donate if we ever get an official rom. Thanks!
Belongs to the general subforum.
The 3 roms has problem with Facebook login on 3rd party programs Like IM+ , Meebo, etc, the only way for me to get facebook chat on a third party was making a meebo account and adding all my accounts into my meebo account and then loging in with my meebo account on the meebo app for android rofl. also CM7.2 BY J.A.F has problem after flashing gapps and everytime my device start it force close gmail and doesn´t connect to Google server to add my google account in the device.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying. All the devs work on one beast godlike rom. That would be pretty epic.

The Official CyanogenMod for Ace would be developed by official CyanogenMod developers, AFAIK (CMIIW). It wouldn't be based on either because the CM developers would use their own source code (if I'm not mistaken, Behrad's CM7 port was taken from Galaxy Mini's CM7 port, and only recently has it been identified as device "cooper").
I agree that things might be better if all those wicked devs worked together to get one demigod ROM, but we like variety. For me, between one universal ROM and hundreds of specialty ROMs, I'd choose the latter.

For the gapps problem in 7.2 i think you have to reflash the rom and this time not flash the ICS theme + animation. I believe that is what causes the apps to crash.
I think we should unite efforts on this cause. Couple of weeks back, I tried to move the crowd a little by making a campaign. Then we received a notice saying that CM7 was coming to our SGA.
ALL DEVELOPERS STOPPED WORKING ON ANY CM7 PORT.
I suggested to keep up working on the roms, since we don't have the certainty that the port is coming for real, which it seems (now) really farfetched. What I'm trying to say is that maybe if kept our noses to the ground and continue developing ONE HUGE MASSIVE CM7 port, then we may finally caught up some attention.

I see, so every rom in here won't have anything to do with the official version that is if we ever get one....why then the CM7.1 Cooper is stated as UNOFFICIAL? And if it gets OFFICIAL again it won't be the real official cyanogen, is that what you're saying?

I believe it's UNOFFICIAL because it's not developed by CyanogenMod developers (Team Douche or related).

If I'm not mistaken, unofficial ports of CM are called KANGs. Behrad's CM7 port (according to that definition) is also a KANG build.
If CyanogenMod developers roll out official support for the galaxy ace (as "cooper"), then that CM7 build would be official.
*did I understand & answer your question correctly?
As always, CMIIW. I'm no expert, I'm no developer, I'm just an extremely happy user.

ROM closest to Original ICS

This is my first post @ xda-develpers forum.
I just got my Samsung Galaxy S3 moving from Blackberry 9900. I would like ROM that is closest to the the orginal ICS. Overall, I dont like those bloat-ware on my phone. If on a PC, the first thing I'll do is to format the computer and reinstall Windows.
So for Samsung Galaxy S3, I am finding a lot of installed software pretty much useless. So can you guys recommend me a ROM out there that is closest to the original ICS from Nexus?
Thanks.

Way to be helpful.
OP:
I find VillainROM is quite close and from what I've read Revolution HD is fairly close also. You can also just use a stock ROM, as well, and use tools like Titanium to take out the crap you don't need or want and use an insecure kernel to root the device.

How is that in any remote way NOT helpful? it points him to the thread of AOSP development i.e. Closest to ICS.

What? No it just points him to the Development forum. It doesn't give any specific ideas or recommendations. I'm pretty sure the OP could've looked through there if they wanted to, but instead chose to ASK for advice.
Also, yeah, my advice is moot, then, cause I recommended Sammy ROM's by mistake.

That's more like it. And yes, I caught and mentioned that
Thanks you all. This being my first time into the Android world and into xda forum, there are a lot of unfamiliar things I am learning here.
Regarding Stock ROM, I am just unfamiliar with what to remove and what not to remove. Also, I think no matter how much app you remove, its just still boatware.
REgarding the AOSP based ROM, there are 6 different types. All seems to have some major bug.
For example, the CyanogenMod9:GT-I9300 contains the following known bugs
FM Radio: currently not supported, try Spirit FM from market
TVOut: unsupported and will probably never be
Wakeing the device up using volume keys might not work because the device is sleeping to deep and doesn't recognize key presses
You must use the LFB modem to have in-voice calls
First call might not work, subsequent calls works fine then.
Bluetooth does not work well if the distance is over 1 meter to the connected Bluetooth device
Others also have some camera issues etc.
So there aren't any ROM out there that is "virtually" problem free. I don't mind small problem but camera not working, bluetooth not working seems pretty major for me.
I assume there aren't any Galaxy Nexus ICS on Samsung Galaxy S3 that is problem free???

Slim is aosp with some choice picks from aokp and cm9, very stable, lightweight Rom
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
You could also use the Jelly Bean Domination theme in my sig. It's aim is to remain Samsung but look like ICS. Also, some ROMS remove the bloat for you (like Omega) and have the option to add it back.
Why don't you try Faryaabs aokp milestone port. Its a kang project ICS rom that is very stable and haven't had problems with so far .

Try cm9 (ics) or cm10 (jelly bean).
Guys, I just tried the ROM][AOSP][JB][4.1.1][STABLE] Android 4.1.1 JellyBean - BUILD 3 [31-07-12] http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737449 which claim to be stable and no much issue other than Memory Leaked.. I wanted to post comments there but due to my low forum post count, I can't post reply.
Apparently, there seems to be a lot of problems that I am facing. I can't have Google account to link to my Gmail account to restore all my contacts. I tried installing Google Play Store 3.7.15 but the App just can't launch as it keeps exciting itself.
I am not sure if I am doing anything wrong here....

[Q] Stable and Fast rom for my mom?

What up!
My mom just bought a Galaxy S2, which I am to borrow for two weeks while I am going to the states, since LG pushed the Nexus 4 launch date in Denmark
I am really not a fan of TouchWiz, and I want a pure android experience.
But I don't know of any Galaxy S2 roms, I was thinking AOKP Milestone 1 or Cyanogenmod 9.1 stable?
It's my moms phone, so it can't have any bugs.

CM 9.1 stable is stable only in name it still has minor bugs, infact there is no perfect rom even considering stock roms, you have to actually test and find a suitable one yourself, see for in cm 9.1 features like Wifi direct don't work , radio is disabled and H/W decoder doesn't support all common formats like avi. So since it's for your mom who I expect to be less tech savvy I say give her a debloated samsung based custom roms, i recommend you to try Neat Rom Lite v4.0 based on stock jelly bean rom, all features are working and no known bugs.
Using GT - I9100
I thank those who give helpful comments
I expect the same from others.

ROM Request: Full S4 Experience on Samsung Galaxy S2

Hello fellow citizens of the world. I'm sorry if this is not the place for this kind of post, but I tried to find other places to post but none seemed right for this post, so I decided to post here. I would like to ask any developer for a request on a ROM for Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-i9100.
As many of you know, Galaxy S4 recently came to the market, and I bet I am not the only one who like the looks and functions of it. Even though Samsung have their own special version/edition of 4.2.2, I think it is pretty nice.
I have a request for a custom Samsung Galaxy i9100 ROM, based on the S4's i9505XXUAMDE, A.K.A. S4's 4.2.2
I would like to have as many of the functions as possible, especially the status bar with all the options, expandable notifications (etc.), and the TouchWiz launcher.
(Yes, I have searched the web for anything like this)
I'm sure there are more people out there who would love a ROM like this. Feel free to add anything you think might fit and be nice as well.
Thanks in advance.
Hate to break it to you, but a couple of things:-
1) Devs generally don't read Q&A much.
2) Devs don't do requests unless it relates to something they're already working on or want to work on for themselves.
So the TL;DR is, if you want a rom like that, you probably want to learn to code & make it yourself. Doesn't matter how many people you get in this thread saying 'We want blah blah blah', it doesn't work like that. XDA isn't a democracy.

[Q] Google Edition ROMs

Hey
I'm looking for Google edition ROMs. Is there a website where Google serves their ROMs? I've searched but couldn't find anything. I also searched on XDA but couldn't find it.
Anyone know where to download their ROMs?
Thanks,
Steala
If you are talking about AOSP from Google the Galaxy S3 isn't a part of that program, the S4 however is, if you want a stock-looking ROM I recommend SuperNexus ROM or Cyanogenmod
As above, there's no google edition for SGS3. Your best shot is latest CyanogenMod and Paranoid Android GAPPS (Full nexus package).
Thanks guys!

There is an unofficial Google Edition ROM for S3. Try Ultimarom. It's based on Samsung firmware, but with AOSP elements and theme. You get the AOSP experience without losing the Samsung camera and multiwindow implementation.

Considering the Google Edition ROMs found on the S4 and HTC One are essentially skinned versions (hybrid style) of those devices' stock ROMs, I think it may partially be what he is looking for. I mean, he makes no mention of AOSP, so how you could deduce that my suggestion is totally not what he is looking for is beyond me.
Anyway, hope OP finds what he is looking for!

For me Google Edition is pure AOSP, without Sammy's features, as it would be pointless to call it google edition then.
But that's just my definition, maybe we have different ones.
Agreed with archi. The one that actually gets closest to google roms is supernexus

Gotta chime in here... I'd agree with Archi. On my S4, I'm running the Google Edition ROM, because I don't want/need any of Samsung's stuff.
But that said, I've done my best to ensure that UltimaROM is as slim as you want it to be, including running many AOSP apps natively.

OP can try slimbean or carbon, but I'd not recommend it. If you want pure google feeling, you can try cm, but nothing else. They are worthless, unfortunately: laggy, slow, draining battery, and tbh offers nothing. And maybe we have the same problem: we want a ROM that works great, fast, but has some features. I don't need the samsung bloatware either. (But I like tw and the tw camera)
You should try the miui rom by ihackers. It's not AOSP (Google "feeling"), but a beast, no battery draining, no samsung bloatware and the UI is beautiful. I think it's worth a try.
If you're looking for the pure google feel only, please ignore my post.

However it's the same as "Hey, I want MIUI on my SGS3", "Suuure here you got CM 10.2 and MIUI theme from here, enjoy!"
For me google edition is google edition, pure AOSP and nothing else.

Yep, I agree with you Again, tis why I run the GE ROM on my S4. I don't really want the instability of Cyanogen (potential) and I just want stuff to work.
I'm working on something cool for the S3, though Hopefully I can pull it off.
The most "google edition" ROM I know is SuperNexus, which is now at version 3.0, Android 4.3
