Before I start, I need to pay my respects to the developers for all the great effort trying to make our ACES one hell of a phone.
Ok, if we were to sum it up as far as cyanogenmod development goes for the Samsung Galaxy Ace we have the following:
1. BehradGH Rom stable but some bugs or apps that don't work. A bit heavier than the following
2. Grif_07 Rom which appears to be the most stable
3. CM7.2 BY J.A.F which is developed by Russians who made a very good job and this one seems to be the fastest so far and very stable. This based on Grif_07 if I am not wrong. A thread started for this one, I believe this one has minor bugs cause I am testing it.
...And of course lots of others that diserve recognition
So if there's going to be an official version on which version is going to be based on and who's deciding for that? How's the whole thing going? Cause as far as I can see we get new roms probably from different working groups quite often but what's the point if they all choose their own path? I mean someone should decide the path so all the developers can work it out and reach the destination --> The Official version of Cyanogen for Ace. I would appreciate and I believe not only me but a whole lotta bunch of people if we were told what's the plan. Just a few words.
I see many great ideas in here, for example jusada took the first two roms and modified them to barebones. Really nice move and quite impressive roms, fast and quite stable but again not bug free (oh man, why you stopped dealing with this???).
Anyway, a few words from the right people would be great. I love cyanogen and I would go donate if we ever get an official rom. Thanks!
Belongs to the general subforum.
The 3 roms has problem with Facebook login on 3rd party programs Like IM+ , Meebo, etc, the only way for me to get facebook chat on a third party was making a meebo account and adding all my accounts into my meebo account and then loging in with my meebo account on the meebo app for android rofl. also CM7.2 BY J.A.F has problem after flashing gapps and everytime my device start it force close gmail and doesn´t connect to Google server to add my google account in the device.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying. All the devs work on one beast godlike rom. That would be pretty epic.

The Official CyanogenMod for Ace would be developed by official CyanogenMod developers, AFAIK (CMIIW). It wouldn't be based on either because the CM developers would use their own source code (if I'm not mistaken, Behrad's CM7 port was taken from Galaxy Mini's CM7 port, and only recently has it been identified as device "cooper").
I agree that things might be better if all those wicked devs worked together to get one demigod ROM, but we like variety. For me, between one universal ROM and hundreds of specialty ROMs, I'd choose the latter.

For the gapps problem in 7.2 i think you have to reflash the rom and this time not flash the ICS theme + animation. I believe that is what causes the apps to crash.
I think we should unite efforts on this cause. Couple of weeks back, I tried to move the crowd a little by making a campaign. Then we received a notice saying that CM7 was coming to our SGA.
ALL DEVELOPERS STOPPED WORKING ON ANY CM7 PORT.
I suggested to keep up working on the roms, since we don't have the certainty that the port is coming for real, which it seems (now) really farfetched. What I'm trying to say is that maybe if kept our noses to the ground and continue developing ONE HUGE MASSIVE CM7 port, then we may finally caught up some attention.

I see, so every rom in here won't have anything to do with the official version that is if we ever get one....why then the CM7.1 Cooper is stated as UNOFFICIAL? And if it gets OFFICIAL again it won't be the real official cyanogen, is that what you're saying?

I believe it's UNOFFICIAL because it's not developed by CyanogenMod developers (Team Douche or related).

If I'm not mistaken, unofficial ports of CM are called KANGs. Behrad's CM7 port (according to that definition) is also a KANG build.
If CyanogenMod developers roll out official support for the galaxy ace (as "cooper"), then that CM7 build would be official.
*did I understand & answer your question correctly?
As always, CMIIW. I'm no expert, I'm no developer, I'm just an extremely happy user.

Let's see what everybody thinks...
...So as most of us already know there will be an official CM7 for ACE. So let's guess when will that be.
You know, we do know. But its nit forth coming. I can't help thinking its sat on a PC somewhere and there it will stay. Just my opinion, hope I'm wrong.
sat in my one piece devil outfit as I type. . . . . no. . . really!
in my humble opinion, I think ever since it took a lot: (
Noob question:
I'm confused, I don't understand what's with the excitement about an official version. When and if the official CM for Ace will be released, what would the difference supposedly be to one of our unofficial versions? I'm currently using the vo-1 CM7.2 ROM for some time now and it has been very stable already.

I agree, most roms in here are trully amazing. I believe one of the issues that developers have to face with the official version is if the system will be armv5 or armv6 processor based. Somehow this affects lots of things. All roms in here are armv6 based... maybe an armv5 based rom will make it more stable. Maybe i am talkng rubbish, I am not an expert really.
I believe that developers of the official version try to deal with basic apps to work properly as in stock roms, like wifi, cam and stuff like that. As we already know some roms in here had issues with those that were finally fixed... anyway, this is just a poll
I think that all developer are working on cm9 and they "forgive" about Ace)

That makes it even more confusing. We have an ARMv6 CPU but a ROM based on ARMv5 would make it more stable?
Just sit tight and wait for unofficial CM9
i don't care about official one,i only want better camera clarity in CM7
i cant wait for that
Dont know how much time we have to wait to get official CyanogenMod...
its too long. hate it.

well then you are too self conscious..
all features you need may be working fine but there is still something that needs work and official release would be as stable as stock roms without any bugs..
ports are meant to be getting something to just work on your device
official means meant to be run on yours
and atleast you should be happy that its getting official as most of android devices dont have them except some bunch of high end ones
Can someone building this app from github? It looks pretty cool, but I don't know how to build nor do I think I have the equipment to.

I think I can f*p to this
Developers, please help! , this could help take multitasking on android tablets to a whole new level!
Would like to see this myself!
Thats really really cool, hope the developers here will do a build with ICS with that fantastic experiment!
CyanogenMod team is working in building it into CM9.
Think it's only compatible with ics and gingerbread when ics is more common on devices I think more cooks will add it. I can't believe their is not more interest from dev on this. Cm9 and Thor, are building this into their rom.
Not an APP. This has to be built into the ROM itself. I have been searching for the "user built ROMS" on Onskreen's website but with no luck. CMteam is adding it to CM9 but a flashable zip to drop the right files into the right places would be increadible. This would give most people the option to use what ROM they want and then flash the "Cornerstone into said ROM. I am excited about this.
Including this into the ROMs might make Google decide to pull ROMs out of access to the Android Market I've read.
Not sure if and how this would all pan out.
edit: if CM would include this as an optional package that would remove the risk of excluding ROMs to the market, nice find mtjnkee
work in progress? or already an app ready?
I thunk it'll still a work in progress.

Any roms for the a500 with this built in yet. Available now?
I think that once more devices start to implement ICS then we will see a much faster development time for these sort of OS enhancements

So IMHO they're more on building an own solution to this, taking Cornerstone as an origin.
If anyone has a Touchpad laying around there is an CM9 Kang ROM with Cornerstone baked in over in the Touchpad development section.

I thanked your post, not because it was in any way useful but absolutely hilarious!
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that will most likely never happen. I'll trade my wife's iPhone 4 for your Note though, I'll even throw in a dead iPad!
Well, truth be told, there is not a solution yet.
BUT, if you wait a bit, a rom called MIUI will likely be developed.
Let me explain...
Cyanogen is a team that develops 'clean' Android roms for many devices. This means, no bloat and has ALL of the features that Android has to offer, enabled (with exception to features that would not be applicable because the phone simply does not have the hardware - for example, if your phone does not have NFC, Cyanogen wont support it for your device and they simply remove all of the code related to this). The result is, the most feature rich version of Android (and most up to date as they do keep up with Google's releases) with the least amount of crap. This keeps the phone lean and clean.
Now, since Cyanogen is open source, they make the source code available for other rom developers to modify what they have done to create different experiences. This allows developers to start with a feature rich rom and develop on top of that to add their own 'flavor' to their work.
One such 'flavor' is MIUI which strives to make your Android device as Iphone like as possible. While it isnt perfectly matched to the Iphone, its moderately close.
Dont get me wrong, I for the life of me am baffled as to why someone would want their Android phone to look like an Iphone but that is what MIUI is there for.
(BTW, if I am wrong about MIUI, feel free to mention it, based on everything I have read about it however, the impression I got was to theme an Android OS to look like IOS).
However, we have a long way before this happens. Rom developers have barely figured out how to do anything with this phone.
To my knowledge, there is only 1 custom rom (Saurom) and it isnt really all that custom from what I can see. All it seems to have is enhancements from the stock rom (overclocking, cwm, att bloat removed?) but in essence is just a more efficient streamlined stock rom.
There is also only one custom kernel that I can see that again, is the same as the stock kernel but allows for overclocking (and I think I read that the davlik cache size was increased).
Once Samsung releases the source code for the Note, we will start seeing alot more rom development, at which time Cyanogen will jump on board and start making roms (using the source that Samsung releases for things like drivers) and once Cyanogen has a relatively stable rom, MIUI will likely take the Cyanogen source and tweak it.
Very convoluted I know but probably wont be seeing anything earth shattering until the source code is released from Samsung.

I hate to disagree but they arent even close (no offense to current devs, this isnt their fault).
S-pen functionality needs either the source from Samsung or a new driver has to be written from scratch, which isnt worth the time or effort considering that Samsung likely will soon be releasing source for ICS (usually a few weeks after the OS is officially released). And, if he rumors are true, ICS should be official soon (however, to be clear, I dont believe ICS is coming any time soon).
The reason these other roms have S-Pen support is, surprise surprise, they COPIED large sections of code from the stock leaked release, where, conveniently, everything ALREADY WORKS!!
Stock apps will almost always work on ANY rom with little to no modification required, regardless of whether they are from an AOSP rom.
The current roms are heavily based on the leaked ICS rom with only small tweaks universal between nearly all roms, things like themes, lockscreens, sounds, animations, etc. are all pretty simple if you know what you are doing (something admittedly, I have not personally built a rom but Im very familiar with the process).
When Cyanogen (or possibly AOKP, Im not familiar with their roms and how they are developed) is released, we will begin to see true rom development begin to happen. Until there is source code from Samsung, we will continue to see roms with Touchwiz all over them.
To show you how easy this is, here is a link to have a bot build a rom for you for any of the Galaxy 1 or 2 phones.
http://romkitchen.org/
Click your phone choice (Galaxy 1 or 2 currently, the Note is NOT supported yet).
Click Generator in the upper right hand corner.
Use the six tabs across the top of the page to choose your Modem, Kernel, Theme, stock apps, etc.
Of course, this only gives you a base to work with, from there, its pretty easy to swap in or out what you want.
Think about it like this, I can give you a copy of Windows already pre-configured for your PC and them or customize it just by changing some registry entries and including the data files (wallpapers for example). The included drivers would be pre-built meaning that 'I' didnt actually write them, nor did I change much in Windows, all I did was provide the files containing the data and changed a few settings to link to the files.

Not entirely true. I know some ICS roms that have been hacked to death to get at least partial functionality.
I'm thankful that some devs have taken their time to do what they have done, but what I am looking for hasn't been done.
AOKP is like AOSP, but more tweaks are added.
[edit] As for myself, I could care less about S Pen support. I haven't even used it, nor do I think I ever will. I got this phone for the monster sized screen.

I appreciate the explanation, but you're not telling me anything I don't already know. I was just saying that our current roms have been themed/tweaked well enough to look like AOSP, so they're not that bad; and, you don't really have to deal with touchwiz annoyances anymore if you don't want to -- trebuchet, apex, and nova all work well.
CM9 or AOKP they're not, but they're exceptional given the single source-less leak we have right now... and they certainly blow away stock touchwiz GB! lol

Pen apparently works in the CM9 build for the international note. Haven't looked at the source myself yet, but it is probably just the standard wacom driver.

AFAIK, they haven't gotten the button to work yet, but it's promising.
Its going to take a lot kf time and effort and prob a group effort to get aosp or aokp roms for our phone. I believe the reason skyrocket and 989 have it is because they have had a lot of devs working together for long time on it. I can get a booted aosp rom hut no sound no camera no data. So theres a lot of work needed to be done

This might be a silly question, but what exactly are the differences between the three Jellybean ROMs I see in the dev section (Paranoid, CM10, AOKP)?
None of these seem to have any kind of "feature log" or changelog.
Anyone have any insights?

AOKP....not going there with that one
CMX, Pure build from code. Great rom.

I'm not trying to be a ****, but you kind of didn't answer my question in any way.
a) What's wrong with AOKP?
b) I know Paranoid is JB, that's why I mentioned it. Are you saying it's stock JB? Kinda confused on the wording here.
c) Obviously, you're a fan of CM10 (aka CMX). What makes it so good compared to the other two? I see the thread for it has more posts (and thus seems to be more popular), but why?
Again, I'm not trying to be difficult. Just hoping to get an answer without having to flash 3 different ROMs.
Each ROM has different features.
CM isnt just straight AOSP

As much as I am grateful that people are paying attention to this thread and attempting to answer, this is the 2nd non-answer I've received so far.
I know each ROM has different features, that's why I made this thread.
I know CM isn't just straight AOSP.
My issue is that unlike most of the Sense ROMs, these JB ROMs have no feature list at all, and don't even cite any sort of changelog. Thus, I can't make an informed decision on which ROM to flash.

That's like.. not even fully correct.
Please make sure you know what you're talking about before you answer questions, as not knowing the answer will only cause more confusion.
To OP,
Paranoid: Paranoid Android is an AOSP JB ROM that focuses on the fusion of phone mode and tablet mode. Typically putting a phone into tablet mode would be cool, but some features of tablet mode just don't work that well on a phone. So they've worked on making the tablet mode experience work better on a phone. You can read more about it here.
AOKP: AOKP (Android Open Kang Project) is a highly customized AOSP build that is somewhat similar to CM in that it has a lot of tweaks available to it. AOKP actually has a bit more customization than CM, allowing you to center the clock, add the day of the week to the clock, weather in your notification menu, and a few other neat tricks. You can read more about it here.
CM10: CyanogenMod is the most popular custom Android ROM around, with a very large user base. It supports many different devices. We just recently received official support, meaning we will get official releases and nightlies on a daily basis. This is a plus for CM, because we don't have official support for AOKP and Paranoid, which means we might not always get the newest updates. While it has less ability for customization than AOKP, CM is still a very solid AOSP ROM. You can read more about it here.
All three are great ROMs, and at this point they have mostly the same bugs. I would personally suggest CM10 because the development for it is a bit more active and I've noticed better battery life and less buggyness while running that over AOKP.

Thanks you so much for your in-depth answer.
I'll do some more research with the provided links, and will probably flash something tonight.
Thanks again.

No problem. I would suggest trying them all, since there are differences between each of them.

It was directed more twards the poster above me. My pizza got delivered in the middle of typing so I had to go let the guy in. Sorry my post was so short and abrupt.
SoraX did a great job of explaining the main goals/differences between the ROMS>
The reason there isnt a changelog is because at this point the developers are more focused on getting things working 100%. Its the nature of the beast.
