Motorola Atrix rebooting continuously, need to back up my phone data. - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
For some reason my Motorola Atrix 4G is rebooting continuously every 30s to 1 min. My phone is not rooted. I can reboot my phone in recovery mode though. Is there any solution for this or Is there a way to back up my data(pictures/videos/apps etc.)?
Thanks,
Maddy.

Just throwing out ideas.
Have you tried rebooting with your phone connected via USB or connected to the wall charger? Maybe that will stop the boot loop so you can get your data off.
Did you set up to save anything on the external sdcard (if you have one)? If so, just pop that in your computer and copy the data off it.
I save all my important data to the external sdcard and back it up to my PC periodically.

following on from this helpful advice... do you see 'wipe cache' when you access recovery? if so select that (up/down volume button and power to select).
If that doesn't work and you've been able to save your personal stuff, you might consider a factory reset. Good Luck

Good Afternoon,
Thanks a lot for your valuable information. I have tried all the suggestions, but unfortunately none of them work for me. It still continues to reboot every 30 sec. Is there a way to do a hard reset to my phone without actually erasing the data? From another thread(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562690) I found out this information, I don't know whether it will work for Atrix though. Can you guys please confirm? Thanks a lot and appreciate your time.

Maddy.

That should not wipe your sdcard, but it will wipe all data. whenever you do any wipe you risk losing data you don't want to lose. I know where you are coming from..........I have had HDD's die with pics on them, but I have managed to recover everything. Sorry I can't be of more help!

the instructions in that link refer to samsung not moto so I am not sure if doing a factory reset will erase your saved pictures ect.
it might be an idea to take out (if you indeed have one) sd card and see what you've got on there.
After that leave your sd card out and it would seem as if you have no choice left but to do the factory reset and see where you are and if that has cured your problem.

Yeah, I had suggested this.
I think that at some point you have to just face the fact that you are going to lose sh*t you really don't want to. Sometimes that sh*t is really important, but it's a hard lesson learned! :-(

I did a hard reset and to my surprise my Pics and Videos are still in place that's what I need primarily and I got it. Thanks a lot for all the help and suggestions.

[SOLVED][with help of ddotpatel] Something BAD happened with Nandroid Restore - HELP!

Hey,
I have a huge problem, people.
I've had some issues with one of the ROMs that I tested, so decided to restore my Nandroid Backup. I've wiped everything and runned the Nandroid Restore of my previous - working ROM (EzHero 1.2.1) - everything looked as if it worked fine, the operation was completed succesfully. So, given that I've chosen reboot phone option in the Recovery (AmonRa 1.6.2) and it turned on with a regular booting screen and just stuck on it. It's been like 2hrs and I'm constantly stuck on this "loading" screen and cannot turn the mobile off either by holding Power or Power Home or Power Home Back. Nothing. I don't wanna take the battery out as I heard that it can be devastating.
So, to clarify all of that, I have a phone connected via cable (yet no connection through ADB) to PC, so the battery would not discharge and the phone itself is stuck on booting logo/animation, the one just before it goes into the usual desktop screen.
How can I go about it to restore it?
Thanks!
Do you have App2SD ?? If yes it may took ages to boot when you do a first boot... But that only works if you had done a Nandroid + Ext...
Its fine to take your battery out,... Reset and give it another try at booting. If it fails again, try booting without SD in. If it fails again, try doing another restore of your nandroid. Fail again,... Full wipe then reflash ROM.
There is only risk of bricking when flashing a new radio and interrupting the process.

I do have apps2sd but haven't done +Ext.
When I soft-reseted the device it obviously went into boot loop again BUT I have managed to connect it to my PC through ADB now and wonder if I could use it to my advantage?

The problem is my phone IS stuck at boot loop and even if I soft reset it I don't have enough time to press POWER and HOME to go into Recovery so I cannot check if I could do restore. Would connection through ADB help as I currently after soft reset have it?
I have to clear something up my phone is in the boot loop but not as in that it reboots itself time after time - NO! It just sticks on the booting animation and that's it.
Oh, and running this "fastboot boot recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img" through ADB just sits stuck at "< waiting for the device >" though I _can_ list the contents of my Hero through shell.
Also when I press vol up or vol down in the state with startup screen beeing stuck I can hear it same way as if I heard it in the working phone - as in beeping when pressing up and beeping lower when down.
I'm not so clued up on fastboot commands to be honest.
Take your battery out,... Hold HOME and put your battery back in..... KEEPING HOME HELD IN
OK! Finally after finding enough courage to do so I pulled the battery out as ddotpatel advised me to - I have to say it was scary 30s, real scary. Anyway, it seemed that his advice was correct and he is in fact a very wise man - THANK YOU! Afterwards I've done all the wipes again as I did initially and instead of trying to recover it from my Nandroid backup I just gave up and reflashed it again. It didn't work, so I reformated and repartitioned the SD card and it's all good now... And I'm a happy puppy! Actually, I'm no puppy at all but I am happy nonetheless.
@ddotpatel Thank you sir! You are a Gentleman and a Scholar and I shall praise your name forever on this and other Android forums alike. ^__^ Just a quick question though: removing a battery is prohibited only when flashing radio and when the phone's on the "phone & a box/arrow" picture, right? So if I ever have an booting/issue error whilst flashing custom ROMs that do nothing to the radio I should be fine poping the battery?
I know I sad it trice already but - ddotpatel, sir, THANK YOU!

No worries, mate! My post count did not go up to 73 in like 5 days for no reason. I try to help as much as I can and also would not run into those problems if I wouldn't flash and benchmark many ROMs (posting all the stats for the same configurations & settings) here for others to decide on their own which they liked best either. ^__^

[Q] Bricked!

So I was doing the whole fastboot thing and during the process of "erasing cache" I accidentally knocked the USB cable out.
Now the phone won't turn on at all, the lights don't even come on nor does the computer detect it when plugged in, it doesn't even display a screen when plugged into a power outlet or anything :-(
what can be done to save it?
Take it you have tried removing the battery and can you get it into Recovery mode
lufc, he may have smae problem as me, fastboot erase CATCH has bricked his phone and till now I cannot find support for this issue eighter.
It was completely dead, no fastboot mode, no recovery mode, even no QDL mode is available.
I am thinking about teardown my DELL and restore the 2G internal microSD, but I have asking for support from other senior guy, but no one have idea about all of this.

There is a long thread at MoDaCo that discusses replacing the internal sd card. If you just want to reformat to original the info is there, you just have to weed it out of the noise.
I have just received my streak back from dell. I used the fastboot -w command and had a dead tab.
It spent less than an hour in Budapest, Hungary before being sent back to me.

I have read that thread once last time, but my problem is I think fastboot has destroy my internalSD structure and data, so I cannot do "dd ...", I was asking if some one can give me idea on how to format it, or some one can backup his/her internalSD for me.
u can unbricked ur dell streak by jtag
riif box and ort jtag can do it nicely
Do you have the pinouts for DELL streak, I just want to see it before I buy RIFF BOX.
Do I need to tear down the Streak?
The same thing happened to me.
No solution, I'm afraid :/
But, I even didn't use fastboot, my phone had just got empty and wasn't able to turn on since then

Since 2 days, I am searching for a solution for the same issue. Has any one got a way to fix.
This thread is old but, Fastboot erase cache super bricks streak5's
the only (might not even work) way of unbricking is dissembling the phone, taking out the innerSD and reformatting it to it's original condition.
The easier way is to avoid fastboot erase, it is never actually needed as factory reset accomplishes essentially the same thing but without the risk of super bricks
I do not remember in which forum I followed such instruction i.e. erase cache. Nevertheless, what do you mean by
taking out the innerSD and reformatting it to it's original condition.

is there any tutorial for this, because I might do it once I leave with no other option case.
there is a post mentioned previously (either in this thread or on the forum) on how to replace the innerSD
I have not tried it myself so i'm only reposting whawt i know
Any Update on this ? I am stuck with same? Any solution please...

[SOLVED] SK17i Need help. Lots of problems after rooting and factory data reset. :-(

Hi, I recently rooted my sk17i using the unsecure kernel and superoneclick. Then I accidentally uninstalled one system application that was necessary in the phone. So I decided to do a factory reset in the phone.
After the reset, phone was still rooted, everything was normal and fresh. But then I noticed that the Home button is not working.(can't minimize tasks) :-(
All other buttons are working normally. Another difference I found was, when i long press the power button, Only the 'power off' option is displayed. Earlier there were silent mode and flight mode.
Then i tried connecting usb to my laptop. Earlier, everything was working fine. Now memory card is not connected in MSC mode. And I can't use usb tethering.
Another problem I found was, when I short press the power button, as usually display turns off. But when I press it again, screen comes instantly without showing the unlock slider. I can't use any screen lock security because the screen is not getting locked.
Everything was perfect even after rooting. I can't understand what will possibly go wrong after a factory reset.
Please help. Thanks in advance..
Hey,
I'm no expert so apologies if this is no help.
Have you tried to get the phone into fastboot mode again to re-flash the ROM?
I should imagine this would restore all the .apk you have removed including the essential app that has caused your problem.
Hope this is of help,
Joe
Me too think you should do a flash. it would fix it i think
Thanks for ur response. Now after all the experiments I conducted on my phone, I realize what a foolish question that was. . what I realize now is :
A factory reset will only wipe the /data partition. if any file is deleted from the /system partition, it is gone for ever. so, flashing the ROM is the only solution.

Boots to Woman on Video then shuts down

My NT used to work beautifully. It was rooted and was a great device. Then it started to randomly shutdown.
Now, after factory resets and just about everything else imaginable, it boots normally, gets to the woman on the video screen, then just shuts off. If I hold the power button only, it stays on but only for a few seconds as the power button, oddly enough keeping it on, shuts it down.
Also, the only way it turns on is to connect to PC via USB. Power button will not turn it on unless connected.
Any one have ANY ideas what could be the issue?
Thanks a ton!

Try Formating your external sdcard if any, make a wipe data factory reset. Leave it on CWM then Put it to charge full with original charger and USB cable. Leave it for 3-4 hours. After that unplug from power, reboot device in CWM and report back

Thanks. The problem is, when I boot to CWM, it flickers and will only stabilize by holding the power button in. I've tried several cards with fresh CWM and it always flickers and is nearly impossible to make a selection.

It's a 16GB model purchased 12/25/11. I've tried everything and have no idea what it could be. The CWM issue is really odd too. It's just a very fast flicker that won't let me select anything unless the power button is held down which then defeats the purpose since it'll shut down.
Also, if I ever am able to get it to do a data wipe through the flickering, I get a message as it goes through that states, "E:format_volume: make_ext4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk1p2"
Then it says "Data wipe complete" while still flickering and continues to do the same on any restart

Ok, tell me if at list when you boot into CWM (internal or sdcard) your device remains on and doesn't shutdown after few minutes. This is important in order to perform unbrick methods. Also let me know what unbrick method(s) have you tried so far, if any.

When I boot into CWM it will remain on the CWM screen flickering forever until I shut it down.
I have tried everything on the forum to unbrick, including the ubuntu method several time. The only one I haven't been able to try is the internal partition restore since the files don't exist any longer to try that method.
Hope this info leads to something. Thank you for your help. I've spent endless hours on this and am now just trying to get it working again to donate it to a charity in a working condition. I have a new Nexus 7 which blows this away regardless but would like to donate a functioning tablet to a kid who would really appreciate it.

OK i think the unbrick method you're referring is @soshite's thread? that is the one i was going to suggest you, so what you need to follow that tutorial is meghd00t's cwm recovery sdcard which you can find here (it already have the gdisk and sgdisk built in), the scripts.zip (not sure if those scripts are built in the cwm sdcard aswell) and the 16gb partition images.
All the tools mentioned above and more can be found in my FTP Nook Tablet folder so i recommend you to bookmark it.

I'm afraid this it fried.
Frustrating since it boots to the stock woman in the video and just quits.

please help lumia 800 keeps losing everything when I turn it off

Hi I really need some help. I was updating through Zune and it failed half way. The phone was semi bricked, but managed to get it to flash in usb dead mode in Nokia care suite.
The problem is now everytime the phone crashes or goes dead or I just turn it off. I lose everything and get the windows phone setup. Its like its doing a hard reset every time. If I didn't know better it would seem that stuff is not saving to the phones SD memory and is instead keeping everything in ram until the next reboot. This might explain why if I do a little to much on the phone it crashes then I have to start from scratch again.
Any ideas how I could fix this guys.
Thanks
