I've noticed recently (now that I am using my headphones), that my audio quality is very poor. I have viperROM Redline v2.5 RC2 installed with whatever kernel (2.17.651.5) that comes with.
When the volume is turned up, there is a fuzzy quality to the audio. This has been with multiple headphones. I have everything turned off in the DSP Manager, and I've tried several settings to no avail.
Any ideas on what to look at? Everything else is pristine, just the icky audio.

As far as I'm aware, this is a common problem. The Evo 3D simply has a low quality DAC.
Well that sucks. Anything one can do to limit the amount of distortion? It's shockingly bad.
Chad's kernels have great audio quality, but you trade certain other things (bluetooth, cam, etc.) when you flash them.

Yeah, too much of a trade-off for me.
You can lower the volume, but I know that kinda defeats the purpose

I notice this when maxing out the volume too. One or 2 notches below works fine. You could try messing with an EQ but it may be fruitless. Only other option is to get an in line amp for your headphones.

Hey, did you overclock your cpu to 1.5G or even higher? You can try to reduce the clock and back to the original clock (1.2G). It may work. I am still using stock rom. My experience for audio quality is only acceptable. Compared to my ipod touch, EVO 3D sucks. But after I experienced audio quality of HTC G6(my friend`s), I changed my mind. I find it is obvious that audio quality of my EVO 3D is much better than G6. So if your ears are not sensitive, EVO 3D is enough for playing audio with your headphones.
I've noticed that with Gingerbread, the audio sounds better when you use DSP Manager. With ICS, none of that works and the audio still sounds like something pushed out of a large set of bottomcheeks.

Hi all,
Had my EVO 3D now for two days and it's a great phone, the 3D features are superb (probably a novelty but i'm enjoying them for now)
I've rooted and s-off'd my phone and the bootloader is unlocked.
I've installed a few roms, mostly sense, but pretty much everyone i have tried is quite laggy, not all the time but laggy in parts, now i was under the impression that this was pretty much the same phone (bar a few bits) as the sensation.
The sensation roms that i've had were superb, no lag (or very very little) and they worked perfect for the most part.
Is this because it's not been developed for -for very long? Or is this something which we will have to get used to?
EG: If anyones wondering what i'm on about, spin your carousel around and when it's about to re-align with the last window, it jitters slightly, the sensation on lets say insert coin never did this.
I'm running leedroid at the moment, the roms good it just stutters a bit, i've also tried king cobra, mikrunny, shooterbeats, the only one i've not tried is honeycombo.
Oh and i'm using lees kernel too at 1.5ghz max 400mhz min.
I'm not having a go at the dev's because in my eyes they're a bunch of geniuses whom we could not have our beloved androids without, my hat comes off to all of them, it's just i'm noticing a fair bit of lag through all the roms i've tried.
Any one elses input on this would be good.
Cheers.
I have used a few ROM/kernel combinations that would cause my second core (CPU1) to go completely offline. Its not supposed to be on all the time (although you can set it to be); but it is supposed to come on under heavy load. This tutorial helped me solve that problem. Maybe will help you too?

Thanks m8, I did get the app, bought it too nice app but i haven't noticed any change in terms of speed or performance and it does have that irritating lag when swiping between some screens.
I know sense isn't perfect but my DHD was smoother than this with sense 3.0 roms.
EDIT: Just checked the setting within system tuner pro (has to be pro, the free one doesn't allow the switching of the cores) , don't set it to boot, set it to init.d script instead, the second core hadn't come on active until i did this, it's probably going to rinse my battery but if it makes it smoother (which it has) then great.
Thanks man.
----------------------------------
So in short.
Buy system tuner pro.
Switch on all cores, via settings - Active tweaks - force all cpu's online - init.d
Go back and select CPU from main page.
Knock up the frequency to whats safe / needed.
Enjoy a smoother rom and a shorter battery life
i like fresh never lags on my phone stock kernel its probably as close to stock as you can get but it has a lot of goodies i don't like all the flashy colors of other rom's if that sounds like what u like check out fresh

I will do m8, thanks.
I've been living with the Desire HD and Sensation for some time now and the roms on both of those phones are superb, no lag whatsoever, they just work and i only realised how well when i put the two of them together and swiped the carousel, the sensation was about 10fps better off, very noticable when you compare them, i really hope the dev's get their heads together on this.

Yea i'm using Leedroid at the moment, it is the fastest rom out there for the GSM EVO3D but i think there is still room for improvement.
Hey guys,
I know there are quite a few options available to me, but I'm looking for a ROM that stands out above the others.
I personally prefer a stock looking ROM, but great audio quality is what I'm really looking for. And by great audio quality I don't mean "this has Beats, it's dank!" I've learned that just because a ROM has Beats doesn't mean it won't sound terrible.
It would be nice if it interacted well with DSP manager. I switched from AndroTECH Sense 3.5 (which had fantastic sound quality, but ran kinda chunky and had some major buggage) to Warm 3.5 (which had a really slick UI but not as good audio quality).
I'm pretty much looking for the best of both worlds, preferably something that looks stock. Working 3D would make me quite happy, and 4G is moot because I don't even have it where I live.
Has anyone flashed enough ROMs and experimented? How is InfectedROM Eternity?
As for kernels, Ziggy's kernel from last year has been the best performing for me, and has good audio quality. I honestly didn't know the difference in audio quality when I flashed Chad's Anthrax v9. I have a nice set of Bose earbuds and I'd like to say I'm a bit of an audiophile. I'm looking to get a powerful sound from my phone (which doubles as my mp3 player in earbuds and in my car) but not have to worry about distortion and clipping.
Thanks for your help guys.
Have you tried using an alternative music player? The stock sense 3.0 and 3.5 music players are garbage IMO. You should try PowerAMP. It even comes with a decent equalizer.
I've tried many 3.5 roms and miks runny is by far the best. It's my daily driver right now. As for kernel I'm using chads rls9 and it works flawlessly! So miks 3.5 and chads rls9 together are a perfect combo!

I actually run PowerAMP, but DSP Manager gave a great app even better sound quality when set up right, but audio quality relies largely on the kernel/ROM combo.

i've just made the jump from toast's cm7.1 to joelz's aosp ics. the only thing that's missing is a working camera. i can live without that for now. certainly not a deal breaker for me.
Joelz ics +1 here, pretty awesome, would like that camera working, but that's the only real issue I have with it. Had some trouble flashing it, but once I did a factory wipe, it was all butter after that...

CleanROM. I use bluetooth phone and especially a2dp audio everyday. Once those are working I may jump to whatever ics rom has those working.
MIUI is mine, for the amazingly long battery life and low resource usage with incredible smoothness. I dont have 4G in my area so losing that is no big deal and I dont care about 3D in the slightest, the one thing I miss though is the Amaze camera port and a working ZSL kernel. Cant get that on AOSP but the loss of it is not enough to make me switch on a daily basis. Stability seems far better on MIUI too compared to any Sense ROM I have tried.
So in Summary:
I can get over 3 days battery life on MIUI
Stability is better
Smoother
Less resources
All games work (dont graphical glitch and crash phone)
Blackend rom with American metal theme

The best Sense 3.5 ROM out there. Other ROMs have this gimmik, that non-working "feature". But in the end, you can't beat a swift, stable, fully-functional ROM with 40h+ battery life.
As for the kernel I use anthrax, the "unspeakable" one .
Well when I got this phone I saw I could use a bluetooth gamepad with it and I was like oh **** hdmi out +emulator +bluetooth gamepad = me happy haha
Unfortunately that is not the case and I was hoping someone could help. Just on the phone emulators and everything else works flawlessly. When I use hdmi out the performance drops to unplayable.
Emulators (even snesoid...) are way too choppy to even play. Shadowgun and reckless getaway are also choppy but kind of 'playable.' There is noticeable lag so it feels like playing in quicksand.
I get the phone is processing two displays but come on even snesoid is unplayable? So here is my question(s):
Can I force the phone to only display the hdmi output, thereby increasing performance? As I understand it this is not possible but just have to ask.
Can I reduce the resolution of the output and maybe make gains there?
If I root and overclock, could I achieve smooth results? And if yes, what speed would be good to try for stability/performance?
Thanks for your time.
Cmon not one reply? This is xda-dev! This isn't that technical of a question I'm shocked not a single person can help...especially with 80+ views...Any help is appreciated.
Im yet to try out my new mhl adapter on any rom but RezRom 1.2 since i dont seem to find the time to. But will post here when i do. Om gonna try the stock newly leaked ruu.
On Rezrom btw, my phone freezes for a bit then reboots whenver i run a video for some reason.

You have to remember that when you mirror displays, your phone is having to draw twice the pixels. So yes, that's going to cause serious lag, especially on a game, even if It's just a SNES emulator.
Overclocking will likely help some, but if there's anyway to turn off your phone display, that would be your best option. I don't have an MHL adapter to help, but hopefully I've at least explained the problem.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
Indeed, the main culprit is having to push both displays. For some reason, I have not found a way to disable the phone screen without turning off the hdmi out. Basically when you put the phone screen to sleep it seems to cut off the hdmi out...
Because the phone performs so well while only using it's own display, can anyone shed some light on how to have hdmi out going and disable the phone screen? I think this would result in smooth hdmi out performance.
I would think if it was able to mirror, it would be able to simply use one or the other. I really want to figure this out
I would think rooting and some ICS would help, since GB is not really using both cores, correct? Overclocking may help, but may make you phone melt if its pushing super hard.
Well actually I'm running the ICS leak now...605.22 or whatever is the end of the version number. It's pretty and runs smoothly. Was there an aspect of ICS you think would help because as far as games go I see no difference between GB and ICS.
What about rooting do you think would help me?
And also, what speeds would be safe to try overclocking?
For safe clock speeds, use something like SetCPU. Start slowly bumping up the clock speed, using it for a bit, and if it's stable, repeat. If it reboots or becomes unstable, lower the clock speed.
Most importantly, don't set the clock speed on boot until you find a stable speed, or you might end up in a boot loop.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
Thanks for the overclocking advice. Have you tried OCing the rezound? What kind of speed and performance increase have you seen?
Other than OCing I think my best option would be to find a way to turn off the phone display while running hdmi. If this is just simply not supported, could something be modified and added into a rom that allows hdmi out without the phone display?
You may try contacting TeamWin. I know they really helped the Evo4g with mirroring. Now that we have s-off they may be able to help.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk
Thanks, I've contacted them just now so we'll see what they say.
Has anyone tried any of the oc kernels?
Can anyone comment on how smooth hdmi out performance is with these overclocks applied? The threads have a lot of comments but none deal with that specifically.
What ROM are you running? Did you get the bluetooth gamepad to work properly? I've read that HTC used a different bluetooth stack that doesnt work with gamepads. What gamepad did you use? Thanks.
I'm using the leaked release candidate of ICS for rezound ending in 605.22 I think. The bluetooth gamepad does work. It's a phonejoy. All it does is press keys on a virutal keyboard through bluezIME because even on ICS although gamepads are 'supported' I have yet to see anything besides N64oid actually use a GAMEPAD, not just 'xperia play' style it and use keyboard inputs.
Anyway bluetooth has multiple protocols and the one the PS3 and some other devices use is apparently not supported by HTC (i have not confirmed this) but phonejoy, and your standard bluetooth earpieces etc use a protocol that is widely supported by phones.
Now how about those oc kernels? Anyone try their hdmi out with them and see if it performs any smoother?

Yes. The ICS framework itself supports multiple cores. HTC used extra code, including the mpdecision file on GB to regulate when to use the second core, which can be hit or miss. ICS should yield better efficiency and performance when it comes to handling the CPU. (Real world use usually shows the more lightweight GB GUI to be snappier, but the phone is plenty powerful enough to run ICS smooth when all wrinkles are ironed out, and when devs get some more code too, i.e. kernel source.)
Ok, back to my thread question haha....
Has anyone tried HDMI out with any of the OC kernels for the rezound? Does it perform better than stock hdmi out?
what is the best rom for evo 3d (GSM)
(stable,3D working) ?
Thanks
Best is subjective.
I use mwakious v9. Havent updated to 10 or 11 since everything works, 3d, camera, bluetooth, gps, battery. And ive been a bit busy. Everything worked in v 7 and 8 too.
Its ics, looks real pretty etc
And most impotantly i can make calls.
My oh has stock ota ics. I cant see too much difference, except i have root, leedroid tweaks, a load of customisations etc
Just my two cents.
from what i have herd its either mwakious or leedroid...
mwakious v11.1 is out later to day so you might aswel wait for it as you need a clean install.
I am using mwakious v9 and its a nice ROM but for some reason the in line headphone controls (play, forward etc) do not work for me
and for some reason the task manager takes a little time to show the apps running...
hopefully fixed in v11
as for leedroid I havn't used it so i cant say
This is all based on what you want.
I've been using the KingCobra ROM on my Evo.
I'm still on version 1.2, as it has beats audio and is very stable.
Personally, I prefer KingCobra over the others, and it's also ICS.
