I'm getting seriously sick of seeing this message everyone I transition back to the home screen. I want to love this thing but the software seriously sucks.
Can't wait til we get root and can finally unleash. Until then ill push back the thoughts that I should have gone samsung or ipad.
Anyone else getting lag like this?

I've not seen this screen yet. I returned a galaxy tab for this device and find the jetstream to be more responsive overall. I had the 7.0 plus with the fast exynos processor too. I am looking forward to getting the jetstream rooted.
No lag here. I've used the jetstream, a xoom and the ipad.
I have faced this loading screen but only after a reboot.. seriously though this needs a root really badly.. it's got amazing specs but the software just chokes it down..

I have seen the screen only once or twice. I see it more on my EVO.
Read times for the external SD card do suck though after a fresh reboot. Takes 10-20 minutes to load my mp3s again. lolol
Love my Jetstream.

I thought about that, but thought having them both might cause more lag. Thanks for mentioning it. I did disable all the "sense" widgets last night and it seems to have helped.
I am having that problem too. When I try to transition to the home screen I get a loading message for about 13 seconds while it reloads HTC sense. I really hate that. I called customer support but they are useless, one lady even said this is normal. So I'm wondering how many other people are having this problem.

I've seen it mentioned in different areas but I haven't been able to find any real explanation or fix for it. In one thread, the discussion switched to the Google Wallet fiasco.
I was hoping to have one thread dedicated to this and see if there's any suggestions or fixes for this as mine seems to be getting worse and happening on a pretty regular basis. I know there are other options to Sense but I may be one of the few that likes Sense and wouldn't mind keeping it as long as it doesn't keep crashing.
Any fixes yet or explanations?
Are u rooted? A long time ago I had that and I fixed it with the v6 super charge script

I've noticed that my phone a lot of time if I'm browsing the web then press home it delays then it says loading and does so for at least 10 secs..hopefully these minor bugs get worked out
Mine has done this. Only once or twice so far though. Im sure with this flagship phone we will have a pretty comprehensive update with the next month or two from all the user data they are gathering.
Quoted from my post in another thread:
That is HTC's wonderful optimization for you. The One X suffers from that same annoyance as well. It goes hand in hand with HTC's "tweaked" (read: broken) multitasking with Sense 4.0. It can be helped a little with minfreemanager but until either HTC admits it's a problem and fixes it or one of the awesome devs here gets to the bottom of it, I'm afraid it's something you'll have to get used to.

I'm loving this bad boy so far. The size is absolutely perfect and fits in my hand like a glove.
Physical/ Build Quality
It actually looks and feels more like the OG Inc then the Inc2. Slightly narrower then the Inc2 but a tad longer and has the same red highlighted speaker above the screen as the OG Inc. It also feels lighter then the Inc2 and, it feels more solid than any HTC to date. The back battery cover doesn't make that annoying squeak and fits tightly . :good:
Camera
Although this doesn't have the same imaging software as the ONE series, it takes pictures amazingly fast. Click, click, click -one right after another.
Beats Audio
Gimmick or not, Music sounds noticeably better on this device than on the Inc2. I'm playing the same FLAC HD files off the same SD card.
Cons
Looks like they did away with the FriendStream widget ?! There's a Twitter HTC widget but no HTC widget for Facebook. Only the totally lame FaceBook widget that comes with the FaceBook app. I like having the Twitter and Facebook feeds combined in the FriendStream widget. Bummer . . .
Price
I paid $106.99 (including tax) for the device as a "Buddy Upgrade" on my company's business account. They applied the $50 rebate directly to the purchase.
I haven't gotten one yet but I'm pissed that, at least according to the website, the phone isn't global ready. WTF?? The DINC 2 was global ready right? And this chip supposedly has GSM capabilities built in. So why not make it global ready from day one?
Verizon is getting on my last nerve...first they pass on the One series and put out this phone with inferior specs, then they jerk everyone around waiting for the release so they can screw us on the plan, then they don't make it global ready when the hardware clearly supports it. I don't get it. I'm going the europe next month and was looking forward to using the phone over there.
Verzion already has said they will send out a software update to make it globally complient in very near future. It has the hardware to support it inside of it.
Yeah, I didn't buy one either for the above reason. They told me in the store today it wasn't gsm capable at the moment.

LOL...with Verizon the very near future could be a year from now.
And by the way, is it just a coincidence that they send out this OTA to the original DINC that is throwing everyone's phone into a constant reboot loop a week before the new DINC 4G comes out? The timing is a little suspicious. I get the stupid notification like every half hour, hoping the thing will eventually just go away.

So far I love it. I wanted a 4g phone that wasn't as big as a surf board. I don't need a huge screen as I will never watch TV or anything on it so this is perfect.

I think you have to pre-pay for data from verizon before you go right? Like $25/100 mb. So they wouldn't care that you went in and turned on global mode yourself?

Was a longtime user of several phones, including Dinc2, and Rezound.
Picked up the 4g lte today, and I gotta say from the limited time I have with it, I am enjoying it. The biggest plus so far is the nice sharp screen. In fact, I like it more than the rezound's 720 p screen because this one is NOT scaled, so everything looks nice and crisp, and the fonts aren't too big.
Sense 4 on this phone seems pretty snappy and smooth, minimal if any lag on certain scrolls, but they are rare. Haven't made phone calls yet. 4g (here in LA county) is variable in terms of speed... from 300 KB/sec to 1.1 MB/sec. I think that is maybe more related to network congestion.
Form factor of the phone is basically the same as the Dinc2, which is a good thing, but I find this one to be easier to hold in my hands, with softer edges. Also, buttons are easier to press than the Dinc2, which is a plus. Battery door easy to open, and doesn't have flex/creaking. Another nice feature is that the SIM tray and SD card tray are both on the side of the phone, so you don't have to remove the battery to access anything, only the back cover.
All in all, I am pleased so far. Hope to continue the enjoyment, and hopefully will see some nice interest in this phone. Only question remaining is whether the bootloader will be unlocked (either by HTCdev, or otherwise). Honestly, though, Sense 4 on this phone is pretty snappy and quick, so I can overlook this even if we don't get AOSP. But nothing wrong with more options, of course, thanks to any and all devs who know how to cook roms, because I sure don't know how to.
Thanks for reading!

I understand that you initial posters have your shiny, new phone that you paid for, so please don't flame me for offering what the OP suggested, ie: initial thoughts.
I used the phone briefly in the Verizon store today. I have lots of experience with Sense, having used and rooted both a Droid Incredible and an HTC Rezound. That said, I should state that my bias leans toward Senseless and ASOP roms.
Compared to my Rezound running ConRom, I found the Incredible 4G on Sense 4 to be laggy when it came to screen transitions, ie: opening/closing the market, updating apps, transitioning between Sense home screens, etc. I'm not one of those "The Rezound is the best Android phone out" guys either. I was honestly hoping that this phone would be a significant upgrade over the Rezound. If I still had the ability to keep unlimited data and burn my existing upgrade, my choice would still be either the Rezound or the Galaxy Nexus.
I am envious of the Incredible 4G due to it's form-factor. It's feels great in the hand, light but not too light, and has the same nice rubberized-texture that the Inc 2 and Rezound have.

I wasn't running ComRom on my Rezound but so far my experience has been the exact opposite. The Incdreble 4G has had no lag like the Rezound does. Plus, Sense 4 runs circles around the Rezounds version of Sense.
Besides, It's hardly a fair comparison to pit a custom ROM against stock anything.

Global mode is something different. What I am talking about is buying a prepaid sim overseas or using it with t-mobile/att&t. The command doesn't work because Verizon disabled it but if you download the Thunderbolt LTE on/off app in the play store you can change it to GSM only. The options are there so the phone is capable like everyone said. I just got back from receiving the phone and the app works in switching to 3G. The sim for this phone is now a micro-sim so for someone to test they would need to trim a regular sim and put it in. This settings works for voice only. To send SMS and MMS, we need a dev to fix the ROM. That's how they did it with the Rezound. Or we wait for Verizon to enable all the functionality.
So far I am liking the phone. It's more like the original incredible than the incredible 2.
I've noticed a few petty complaints about the phone, and they are all pointing fingers in the wrong direction. The phone itself is great. It's the software.
The software is crashing my phone more than my og Evo. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one. This phone has double the ram of the OG EVO so, it's definitely not the hardware.
Also, Sense has to be the culprit for killing multitasking. There's some ROMS out there that can be flashed on the Evo LTE, that eliminate this problem. Another Sense disappointment.
And last but not least. The look and feel of sense is beginning to look and feel very dated. This is why people are going crazy over dev support, right now.
I'm not a HTC Sense hater, but they definitely need to change it up asap. If I were them I would just put out a, high end pure Google Android device and start from scratch.
Maybe, put a scrolling setting tool bar, that scroll left to right on top of the screen, instead of a drag down bar. Change the flip clock its old and boring now. I had that on my HTC Mogul! It's time to change the game up. And I think it's about that time
Certainly wish it was a bit more polished. Wasn't there something floating around awhile back that they only had 4 months to make sense 4 with ICS?

That may be true. I think I can recall seeing a article about that.
I'm running sense 4 on my 3d, and I have to say that sense 4 is amazing. If you want a change then go with a different phone. I'm not saying that sense doesn't have minor bugs, because it does. But if you're looking for a different look and feel then change it up a bit.
But I like my Sense 4.
I love Sense, although I'm hoping Jelly Bean will make performance and stability improvements, of course. It does crash and restart for me, but rarely. It might be the ROM and apps you've loaded that are causing these issues, along with flashed mods, and so forth. Every time these things are done, increases the chances of destabilizing the platform. This is a part of the game that should be embraced.

That's definitely not out the question. Once you've been loyal to a company since the HTC Mogul, then you may find it just a little bit harder to leave from a hardware standpoint. Like I said Sense isn't bad. It's just buggy and dated.
If Sense is the same during my next upgrade, I'm definitely jumping to another phone. Sad to say.
And yes thanks to this XDA I can change it up a bit. This site has a hand in what a lot of the consumers buy, believe it or not, just because of the hard work of these Devs do to bring longevity to our phones. They spoiled us.
My reasoning now is for the users who don't root. It's a struggle right now.

Yeah, hopefully jelly bean iron some things out.
As far as the crashes, im pretty positive its sense. I have no widgets beside the sense clock and power setting widget. Everything else is minor apps that control some of nothing. My only questionable app is Facebook. That app is so horrible. It does too much and hogs data like crazy. I'm always, clearing my cache on that app. And I won't decide to root, until maybe October.

I happen to love Sense and I am not rooted and never plan to. I like the iconic flip clock and believe it sets HTC apart from all the other androids out there. I do get bored with the "look" of my screens from time to time and change things up with Beautiful Widgets, themes, keyboards and the like. I wish the continuous scroll of the home screens remained (not the carousel) however. At least with Android these phones can be totally customized, which is why I could never be an iPhone user.

I'd have to agree. I got the OG EVO on release day and absolutely loved it. Then came Gingerbread and all the sense reboots. I was hoping with this phone the sense reboots would go away, unfortunately I was wrong. It amazes me with the amount of RAM this phone has, that with very little apps installed, I only have about 200 MBs free. I ended up rooting and flashing CleanROM DE and love this EVO all over again. I just wish I wouldn't have had to root to avoid the HTC Sense reboots. I did try APEX Launcher for a bit, but noticed it would restart as well, though not quite as bad.

I wish I wasn't scared to root as of now. I know there would probably be at least two more updates from HTC are gonna come and I'll wait until then. I was gonna try Apex but thanks for the heads up. I don't use widgets and my apps are all basic, that's why the reboots are kinda bothering me.
The best phone I've ever had or used nonetheless.
I have yet to run into any problems with Sense at all. It's elegant, slimmer than before, and adds features that people from the Windows Mobile days would consider to be basic. (Hello? It's 2012, Google. Where the hell is my T9 dialing?)

I was stock the entire time I had my first Evo LTE. That was for about a month and a half and I didn't have any problems. Got my new Evo yesterday (I had a radio issue that required a replacement) and rooted it because I had to start from scratch anyway. No issues rooted either.
Actually HTC Sense this year looks nice IMO. I really like the way the dock looks. One thing i dont like is the locksceen, as i fee the stock one looks best. There are some thing i wish google would incorporate into the next OS. The way HTC handles adding things to your home screens is MUCH faster than stock aosp. In stock, you have to do it one by one, or at least slowly. On sense, you do it much faster and can even add multiple widgets. Also, if u run out of space sense automatically makes a new homescreen for you. I also like the quicksettings menu (even though HTC took it off i think).
I haven't had one problem since I got the phone on launch day. With sense or anything else.
Love this device!
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
I like Sense 4.0 a lot; I believe it's the best UI skin out there as far as what comes from the manufacturers. I like the widgets and the unified look and functionality of everything. It's all very polished and professional.
The only problem I have with Sense is in the way it handles multitasking. I would love to be able to pause a game to answer a text or email, and come back to where I was without the game fully reloading. Or keep 2 or 3 browser tabs open without everything reloading when I come back to it from something else. Running Nova and using less widgets helps somewhat, but you lose all the "good stuff" about Sense when you go that route. So I'm patiently waiting for a good ROM that fully addresses the memory management issues while letting Sense run to it's full potential.
I have absolutely no problems with my EVO 4G LTE. If you think Sense is the same thing it's always been, try going back and using a Sense 3 phone, like the EVO 3D. Then you'll see a difference. It's just the luster of a new product has worn off for most people. Really, most of the complaints are over petty stuff. In the end, it's a phone. It plays games well, but if you want something to do more, buy a PS3/XBOX. It plays great quality movies, but if you want something to do more, buy an HDTV. Web browsing is great on this device, but if it's still not your style, buy a laptop. Sure there's a convenience of having it all there, but really, it's time to stop being petty about the small things.
Have a stock DNA and I've noticed laggy or choppy scrolling in apps such as Facebook, Instagram, even browsing the web. Is this related to Sense or a setting in the DNA?
I came from a Google Galaxy Nexus previously and didn't have this bug...the scrolling on that phone was very smooth and continuous.
have you installed anything that could be slowing it down, My DNA is far smoother than any phone ive used before, including a galaxy nexus.
You could try checking the gpu rendering option in the developer options and see if that helps
The phone will get laggy if it overheats. Is the phone hot?

Hmm...I don't have anything abnormal installed and I'm fully stock. Also, the device never gets hot (even when my GNex did.)
I suppose I could do a factory reset and try installing apps one at a time to find out if anything is slowing it down but that seems like such a PITA considering this is a quad-core phone w/ 2GB ram.
I was hoping someone else could confirm that their DNA was doing the same thing. =/

I've been having choppy scrolling in settings, trying to find what can be adjusted to make it stop showing black spots when scolling fast. But not having any lag per se.
I too have somewhat choppy scrolling in a few apps (news apps in particular). Stock also and nothing in settings or apps I have seems to affect it, nor does the heat of the device. Got a replacement phone after 3 weeks for a different problem and reinstalled everything slowly, checking to see if anything affected this issue. Nothing did. Cannot read articles as fast as on prior phones because of this, but have just adjusted my scrolling/reading habits.
Yeah it seems to be a problem sadly. In terms of loading speed and such the phone fairs fine, its just choppy as hell, I don't get it. Htc really dropped the ball on this one, with an s4 pro there's no excuse for this kind of performance. As far as I can tell its a mix of poor engineering and sense. You could probably fix the home screen choppiness with another launcher, as far as apps go....I have no clue :/

I second this. Even with the occassionally choppy scrolling in some apps (only a few on my phone, mind you), I still love how fast and smooth the DNA performs generally speaking and would not trade it for a other device currently on market. I think some of this will get better as apps are updated for our device.

Third. It's an on and off kind of thing that seems to vary from app to app. Skype scrolling lags like a mofo but USA Today and Opera have no problem whatsoever.

I love how everyone blames every little problem on the chance its a defective device. For the love of Christ we're talking about scrolling here, its a software issue, its not POSSIBLE for that to change on its own. Seriously, its not defective. My device lags on stock launcher with NOTHING installed. It just takes the right widget and app placement on the home screen. I'll gladly take a video of the phone lagging on scrolling after a FULL wipe if you really want me to. But frankly I don't need to because it's a well discussed issue and I don't need to take my time proving a problem that's already been brought up so many times. Seriously, go on Google and type in 'htc dna choppiness'. Accept the fact the HTC made a mistake (and everyone does, just in different ways) and move on.

I love how everyone blames every little problem on the chance its a defective device. For the love of Christ we're talking about scrolling here, its a software issue, its not POSSIBLE for that to change on its own. Seriously, its not defective. If your device is lagging on the launcher then something is wrong, that is NOT normal. I can make a video of me opening up every app known to man on my phone then scrolling on my widget invested homescreen with no lag, but I don't have to because just like almost everyone else with a DNA, there isn't lag.

Like I said I have ton of apps and mind does not lag.

No lag/choppiness for me either. I've been multitasking most of the day today too, music, fb, instagram, forum apps etc. It's super smooth.
Only place I noticed choppiness is scrolling side to side in play music
Maybe some of the apps just need to be updated to work correctly with 1080p

I'd appreciate it, if you don't mind.
My DNA is about the smoothest Android phone I've owned, and I've owned a LOT of 'em.
I don't doubt you, but I would like to see the lag....
Thanks for the offer!

x2. Would love to see a video because at the moment, I'm streaming pandora, using a forum app/FB and going through NFL mobile and I'm getting no lag...
This is honestly smoother than my iPhone 4 was...and we all know how fluid iOS can be.
