Zagg InvisibleSHIELD Screen Protectors (My review and discussion) - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I purchased a Zagg HD Screen protector yesterday. I must say that I am very impressed with this product.
What comes in the case:

1. Zagg HD Screen Protector (Can you see it?)
2. Application solution
3. RUBBER Squeegee
4. Micro Fiber Cloth
Side note: When I installed this, I took a shower and when I was drying off, I turned the water on the hottest it will go to get the room nice and steamy to take down most of anything that could be floating in the air. Other then that, I applied as directed. Bubbles have formed since the screen protector has set (which is expected) and since has worked themselves out.
Pro:
-Rubber feeling? What rubbery feeling? This thing feels like the actual screen!
-I don't see a difference in screen clarity or color.
-Doesn't reduce responsiveness from the screen.
-Cover existing scratches. (Yep, got one on the screen already. Tiny, but still enough to tick me off. Thanks co-worker!)
-Comes with a rubber squeegee; not a cardboard one that scratches your new screen protector.
-Comes with a high end microfiber cleaning.
-Lifetime warranty.
-1000x better then the OtterBox screen protector (which I removed).
Cons:
-Fingerprints and smudges. They are reduced from the actual screen but they are still pretty bad after about 3 hours of use.
-Cut out for the proximity sensor is off. I had to off center mine to get the sensor to be in the hole but my Otter Box case jides the edges.
-Wet apply. (Not a con to me but may be for some people. You will be fine if you apply carefully and squeegee away from any ports.)
You can buy these products from Zagg (Normal version) or from Best Buy (HD Version).
Discussion for both versions are welcome.

the HD screens are much better than what the normal ones they used to use. I have one of the old school ones on my EVO 4G. It is a bit sticky, but this one is great.
Will

I bought one from Best Buy and it messed up the proximity sensor. So when I'd call someone or get a phone call the screen would turn off immediately and wouldn't come back on without hitting the power button. The proximity sensor is just to the left of the hole they put in. The sensor they put the hole in for is the light sensor (I believe). I cut my Zagg to make it a wider rectangle instead of a circular hole and now the proximity sensor works perfectly. I think I read somewhere that eventually Zagg plans to fix the issue (with enough complaints).
Just throwing my two cents in. Love the protector overall.

I only see 1 sensor in that area and I have it barely uncovered by the cut out. Working fine for me.

There are two sensors. The light sensor and then proximity sensor. The proximity sensor is hard to see as it's just left of the light sensor. You'll see it light up (it's red) when on a call. It's there, very dim, but there. And for some reason some users with screen protectors, myself included, have had issues with Zagg since they didn't include the hole for that sensor.

Anyone have an idea when Zags will fix this issue? I bought the HD screen protector but haven't installed it

If you haven't installed it yet then use a razor blade and make the hole they already have there a bit larger to the left.

I have the Zagg from Best Buy and the sensor cutout is fine. The shield itself is a couple millimeters too narrow, though. On my EVO 4G, it went edge to edge; this one leaves a little space on each side. Not a deal breaker, but the edge of the shield seems to catch lint easily.
And for those of you who, like me, got the screen protector and then realized they kind of want the back cover, too (damn fingerprints), you can contact Zagg for a warranty replacement, select "upgrade" and pay an extra $10 to get the full cover. Given the cost, I ordered a $4 full body protector from Amazon, but if that one sucks, I'll give that a shot. At least the option is there.

Just got off the phone with Zagg. They are sending me the "revised" shield. Shipping costs on them.
Seems pretty clear they are well aware it is causing issues.
I'll just deal with the proximity sensor issues until that one comes, if it's different i'll post a pic so everyone can see the change.

Do you have to ship the old one back?

I guess ill wait and see if the revised one fixes the issue before I install

I purchased the normal version and it only seems to have space for one sensor. I wonder if I should give this one to my gf and buy the HD one at Best Buy. I've always used the regular ones, from someone that has used both. What is the difference between the HD and the regular one?

OK, I've done a bunch of testing with this. My wife an I both have the Zagg HD sheild and BOTH have the proximity issue.
Here is the deal, the zagg has a notch in it and rightfully so BUT there is another proximity sensor to the left of it about a centimeter away. NOW, this other sensor is invisible until you make a call. Then, in lower light you can see it. It's a small dark red dot. Like its sending out an infrared ray or something which it probably is. This little red dot is covered by the Zagg...and hence why your screen doesn't come back in normal light when you pull your phone away from your ear.
Thats it, its the Zagg that is covering it. I'm going to call into Zagg and get a replacement as well. If not then I'll return this to best buy.

I no longer like this screen protector dents way to easy all it takes is a fingernail, sux because other than that its great.

My family has three LTE's and three Zaggs. My Zagg is the HD and had the proximity issue until I cut it. The other two have the regular Zagg and do not have the proximity issue, although the cut out is only big enough for the light sensor.
It appears to me, based on our phones, that the HD is the only one that causes the problem. The regular ones appear to be fine.

Weird I have the HD one from BB and I have taken the phone away and the screen has come on just like my OG EVO.
Maybe I got lucky?

No problem here, HD version.
I picked up the HD version today from bust buy. I did not have that problem with mine????
http://youtu.be/ZsCXMB20a-g

I've had no issue with mine and since I put my otterbox on there is even a wrinkle right over the proximity sensor. I think the people having a problem with the zagg are actually having a hardware issue.

Anyone tried the Invisible Shield?

http://www.invisibleshield.com/smartphone/htc/touch-cruise.php
Shame it isn't listed for the Orbit 2.
I have been using one on my Ipod touch and it really is excellent and feels right for touch screen.
I once got an Invisible Shield for my 750 and returned it. The material felt very sticky and grainy and I felt it more suited to smartphone(non-touch) devices.
I have ordered one and am waiting for to apply. Having browsed in Kaiser and Elf forum that the Shield is good for protection against scratch. There are posts said that it is quite tacky while some others claimed there is no problem for stylus using.
if you have the full bodyshield wont u lose the rub feeling on the back?

I've got one on my IPOD, and it does great. However, I'm not sure it would be a good fit for the TC. They are a bit "tacky", so I don't think that it would work well. I do recommend that you get one for anything that's not touch screen though. I think that the full body version would actually make the device a bit easier to hold. My 8125 felt more secure in my hand with the Invisible shield on than the TC does with it's rubberized back.
One thing to note, the whole body shield on my 8125 eventually got dirty around the edges and I couldn't get it cleaned. This was mostly around the areas that were getting the most abuse though. I eventually took those pieces off since they wouldn't stick anyway.
I'm waiting/hoping for Boxwave to come come out with their screen savers for the TC. I've got one on my old Cingular 8125, and it fits great (almost a perfect fit..no discernable gap around the edges). And they are touch friendly also. They have a "Krystal" clear version, which I'm using, and one that's supposed to help with glare. I don't use it cause I think it distorts the picture some.

I actually bought the kit as well. Currently I am using the martin fields screen protector and its looking and working great.
I have 1 concern with the invisible shield, the solution spray.
Do you guys feel comfortable getting a liquid onto your device. Am I missing something here. You are supposed to spray your device and spray the shield with this solution as part of the process of applying it and pulling out all the bubbles.
I really dont feel comfortable spraying a liquid on an expensive device.
Your thoughts on this.

you spray the liquid on the skin/shield... i've used their products on just about every PPC/Smartphone i've had in the past 2 years without any problems... unfortunately, they don't have a shield for the O2 Orbit 2 version (yet).
Great thread! I desperately want an Invisible Shield to protect my entire Cruise, but I also desperately don't want to sacrifice too much TouchFLO performance when using application such a TouchPal, Tengo Thumb, etc.
Would anyone with an Invisible Shield be able to comment on how realistic (or otherwise) the following video would be with one installed?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yTN4wC_ml8
I think a video is the best way to objectively judge how badly the sensitivity problem might affect some people and not others (youTube certainly helped me understand with video driver/TomTom problem).
I have had the Invisible Shield on my Touch Cruise for a couple of days now. I got the full body which does a pretty good job of covering it. It does not cover the bottom area where the usb port and mic goes. I don't know why they forgot this area but I am happy with it. I usually use a stylus with letter recognition and the only thing I have noticed is for opening the cube I have to press a little harder. I tried like in the video and it works that way. I would try it you have nothing to lose they have a 30 money back guarantee. I use it on several devices and I am happy with it.

Excellent, thank you so much for the feedback, mpf54!
Did you notice any problems at all with the Cruise recognizing all of your finger taps after applying the Invisible Shield? Or were you able to type at a similar speed as before you applied the shield?
I use a stylus usually. There was a little getting used to it being covered. But all that was is I have to press a little harder. I like it.
Well I got my shield and was very excited to try it out on my TC. Directions are pretty straight forward so you think its going to be simple, wrong. After 30 minutes I had only installed the back piece and it looked really bad. The sides are almost impossible to line up perfect and seem a tad bit short in width. After using a lamp, blowdryer, and tongs I finised putting all the pieces on the device. The instructions say to allow 24 hours so that the pieces attach to the device. I finished at 7pm and let it set till 7am the next morning. I must admit the next day the device looked much better then the night before. I was excited to test out my device then noticed after all the precautions I took there was dust underneath right in the middle of the screen. Then I noticed that the bottom part of the device is not protected. I decided to take advantage of the 30 day refund policy and am going to send it back. I think that for this device the pieces are just to difficult to align and a tad bit off. I love invisible shield products I have one on my ipod, but for the TC I do not recommend unless you are a very meticulous and attention orientated person.
While I will admit is is knid of a pain to put on the full body. I am happy with mine. It took several days for it to look really good but it does.

It is a pain to put on the full body but all you really need is the screen cover. I think this is the best one you can get. It took a a while to put it all on but it looks gook and the protection is great.
Bought myself an Invisible Shield screen cover and I must admit I'm pretty satisfied. Better than the original screen cover. Much less fingerprints (plus it's much more easier to get rid of them) and although it takes some time to get used to it, the overall perception is good. Would recommend it.

At the moment i'm using a brando metal case. Do you think inv.shield can give the same protection to the screen? I've watched almost all videos on youtube about inv.shield and never saw any video that tried to test a PDA-phone touch screen in the same way as we can see on iPod at the official video. I'm pretty sure an ipode screen (covered by plexy) it much more stronger than an "avarage" touch screen. So those videos will never be a good example for us. By the way... have you seen the new case-mate case for iPhone yet? I really want a cover like that. I hope those guys will make for Polaris too

I post the last photo showing the original screen protector on my phone only to prove that i installed my screen protector by myself without a single air bubble up to my friends can't get that there is a protector on my screen and what happened with the Invisible Shield was not due to lake of experience
if you are going to buy Invisible Shield u have to know:
Invisible Shield Disadvantages
1-it is not 4 ur phone.
2-it collects dirts.
3-it peels off.
all of that = UGLY
The only advantage 4 me : it makes ur phone less slippery in ur grip ( BUT to consider to buy on every month )
I have a TP2 with a shield on it. The Zagg Corporation is based in SLC, Utah which is very close to me. I have a shield on all of my things and it is one of the best products ever made. You or whoever put that on does not know what they are doing! FYI the shield has a lifetime warranty. You do not keep buying it!
You cant be serious. Do you sell the generics on ebay?? There has to be more to this because the cuts are insanely worng on that thing!! You sell the generics on ebay and are looking to boost sales? Thats all i can figure
Anyways, was going to actualy order 2 of those for the tilt 2's but now i need to do a little more research. By the looks of it, it seems you are very rough with your phone, but thats not really what this is about. Bubble wrap might be a better wrap for you LOL
Anyone else with the product - IS IT really cut as bad as THAT ????
Nope.
I've had my shield for two months so far and it doesn't look anything like this. First of all it was cut ok - it fits my unbranded TP2 precisely. Second - I haven't got a single bubble, only few little marks in places where phone has been hit hard. And I'm not writing this because I'm a Zagg fan - I'm not. I'll be changing the whole phone casing for black/red in some time and I'd like to try Bodyguardz now.
I have the budyguardz on my Tilt it turn to yellowish after 3 months.
I just purchased this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280410139530&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT for my Tilt 2.
It stated that it will not change color over time.
Hopefully it is true.
I have had multiple full body invisa shields for multiple phones (tilt, iphone, fuze) and I have NEVER had one look like this after 2 weeks. That looks more like what mine have looked like after about 8 months. You obviously did a HORRIBLE job applying this to your phone. Where did you purchase yours? Mine fits just as it should. Anyone thinking about purchasing one please disregard this "review" of the product. My Fuze looks just as good as it did on the day I bought it after switching to my Tilt2 and removing the old skin.

I bought a ClearProtector (unbranded version) and tried to put it on a Tilt 2, and failed miserably. It was the right shape and size, but try as I might I just could not get the corners to fit correctly.
Interestingly enough, ClearProtector is in Draper, UT which is a suburb of SLC, UT. Maybe they share office space with Zagg?
I had a Mogul for which I bought two Zagg Shields because I had to get warranty refurbs. While I was waiting for my second refurb to come in and before purchasing a third Zagg Shield, an associate of mine told me he never applied a screen protector and never had an issue. So I decided to forgo the protector for the third refurb, figuring I'd probably have to get another along the way.
When I upgraded to the Diamond, I didn't bother. I didn't bother with my new TP2. My assistant put the in-box screen protector on, and his screen is less sensistive than mine and it looks less sharp.
Is the screen protector even necessary? I stash mine on a belt clip holder (nerdy yes, but functional) and I haven't had any issues with scratches and whatnot. Is the screen protector a force of habit or a real necessity?
I, too, was once like you.
I had screen protectors on my Blue Angel, and on my Universal.
I then got my Kaiser and had a screen protector on that, but it peeled one day and I thought I'd try without it. I managed for about 6 weeks but one day it fell out of my in-car holder, and landed screen-first on the runners for the seat in the car.
Result? One big scratch on the screen.
Though the phone still worked and the touchscreen was ok, using a stylus was annoying as it would jump over the scratch and make things less fluid.
If I'd have had a screen protector on there, I would have simply had to replace that.
Since then, I'm sticking to screen protectors. It's a necessary evil.
Man the shield in those pics look disgusting lol~
Thanks for sharing. : )
I have always used them with no issues what so ever, and I live on the ocean front! Also, you can remove it, soak it in water, and reinstall it if you know what you are doing. Patience is a virtue when installing it..... I have had one on my Athena too for 5 years now with no problems either!Mine fits much better than the one that you show..... Later
the cuts on the shield are not perfect but provide enough protection to prevent scratches...I got the all body protector and had the screen protector but cleaned with alcohol and damaged the screen protector...my fault though...I am quite pleased with this product..
How come that
Even if i was harsh with my shield (which is not true )
can any one explain to me why the shield did not fit my phone as i illustrate in the following photos:
in this photo you will see that the shield edges not aligned with the phone lines.
and in this one i try to demonstrate how the shield was more taller than my phone as the red line shows the actual extension of the shield before i cut the excess material i also draw the actual position of the hand strap hole which located over the mini USB (the red one) before i made the ugly (yellow one)
You're kidding, right?
Tha shield material is flexible. I think you pulled too hard while applying to the device.
Mine is ok, though I was hoping for a better shield - the most important places to protect are the corners and the shield does a bad job in protecting them.
Also I use the original screen protector, not the invisible shield one because it's not smooth enough to slide the pen over the screen.
So, invisible shield - which by the way is NOT invisible - does protect the device half, but it is cut well for the form of the device.
I had Zagg full body shield on my TP1 and after a few months it actually started peelign as well. The screen part was actually ok, but the back started peeling just like on the pictures above. So I am not surprised.
i actually waiting on UPS as we speak...!!! I originally ordered a bodygardz, after a week went by, they sent me an email stating they canceled my order, but did not provide an explanation...i called customer service repeatedly....alas, I was greeted w/ voicemail...still havent rcvd a call back...will never do business w/ them again....
hopefully this invisible shield works out for me... :-/
I use invisible shield too for the tp2 and I know its pain in the ass applying it but once done properly and after a week (all bubbles go away) it looks worth it and definitely not like the one on the pictures posted here.

Lumia 800 wear and tear - After 3-4 months of use

Just wondering, how's everyone else's lumia holding up? I've been using mine for about 3-4 months now (I have a black one) and here are the things i noticed:
Chrome on the back is without a doubt scratched.
Black body has begun to have a shiny "sheen" to it. (body oils/in out of the pocket?) edges are especially getting shinier.
Screen has some play in it: it can shift from side to side a lil bit.
Anyone else noticing these traits? I dont use a case.
My screen is totally scratched, but everything else works fine for me. Battery is also good. 3 Days of using isn't a problem.
My screen is scratched as hell. But thats my fault for taking it on holiday and playing fruit ninja on the beach.
Sand beats Gorilla glass hands down.
Back chrome is also scratched despite having it in a snap on case from new.
...really? I've had mine for a few months and it's in perfect condition. Back chrome is like new and screen is great. I've had it in the included case since day one.
Sent from my Lumia 800 using Board Express
Mine is holding up perfectly (got it the 15th of january I think.. or a little bit earlier actually..). No scratches on the screen, it is in perfect condition. I do however have som skratches at the metal plate on the backside in the middle, but the chassis itself is almost untouched from this. I do however have a bump on the lower left corner of the chassis since I lost it in a concrete floor, but nothing serious and it still looks fantastic.
All in all, perfectly.. or much better than my old HTC Desire HD at least. I was amazed when the Lumia survived with just a small bump from the fall from almost 1.5 meters into concrete. I am pretty sure my HTC would have died instantly.
Mine is holding up fantastically.
The only 'damage' is from a pretty hard fall that it took while in the silicone case. Tiny chip out of the corner near the audio jack. There's also a very small, very short scratch on the glass, above the display, from the same fall. With a very clean screen and the right light, a few scratches can be seen that look like hairs that you want to blow off.
Aside from that, any time I think there's a scratch, it just turns out to be a blemish that rubs right off.
Had mine since December and it still looks like new.
Lets be honest, if you have a Nokia Lumia and its damaged at this stage, any other phone you would have had would most likely be even worse.

Yeah the Lumia is definitely better built than the HTC phones, my HD7 was a mess after a few months but my Lumia is still like new.
Same here. Still looks great. Chrome plate on the back has a few micros scratches, but thats it.

Mine's also in perfect condition. I bought a pair of XtremeGuard back/front clear protector and put a piece of clear tape over the chrome camera part
My power button does not work as of today. I have the factory case on my phone and dropped it from about knee height (while I was sitting in a tiny chair) and the power button ceased to function. I am incredibly angry because I'm in Beijing and it's an import from HK.
Mine, 3 month old, is in prestine condition apart from a few microscratches in the chrome cameraplate. Always naked.
(On A side note I managed to bring a drowned 800 of a colleague back to life. After it had been dropped in a pool of water on a Saturday I got my hands on it on Tursday and it was litterally dead... No pulse whatsoever!
I thought it was gone for sure so I thought it would be good pratice to take it completely apart. While I had it complety disassembled I carefully dried away the remaining water (yes there was still water inside it) and left it to dry a few hours.
Then I reassembled it and to My surprise I got a small beep when I connected the battery, so my hopes where going up as I finished the assembly. I then connected the charger but it was still silent.... No reaction.....
But then after 5 minutes on charger I saw a battery icon and after an additional 10 minutes it actually booted.... But then rebooted, and rebooted.... About 4 times and then it settled by itself. Then I could start to explore the phone and it was a mess. Partial old data was still there and some apps where partly gone. But a simple hard reset brought it back to life this is two weeks ago and it is still running flawlesly, much to the surprise of both me and the owner of the phone.
He did everything wrong after the initial accident, trying to start and charge and left it assembled. For 3 full days.
I was quite possitively surprised of how well the modules was fitting together again after the operation. I is quite obvious that Nokia has many years of top notch industrial design behind them. )
Very sturdy design!

My Own - Purchased Nov 2011, No Case; No skin..
Good lord, I can't top the last story - phenomenal recovery!!
On mine..
RM-801 Unlocked
I use a holster case, but no hard case on the phone itself nor do I use the sleeve that came with the phone.
Screen: Microscratches but these are only visible when I use a damp microfiber cloth to clean it every few days. When I dry it, the scratches are no longer visible.
Back chrome - scratched to hell, but NO damage on the Zeiss lens! I do try to lay it down on a microfiber cloth though when possible..
Damage:
TWO falls when I was screwing around taking pictures. In both cases, the screen assembly separated slightly disabling the proximity sensor (disastrous for phone calls!) so got my Torx screw driver and Krazy Glue out and followed instructions someone has on YouTube - and both times the phone has restored completely perfectly.
Thank GOD..
* Glass didn't shatter either of the two falls - the corners on the polycarbonate body are just a bit chewed up especially from Fall #1 which occurred on concrete.
* Note that the little door that all the 1st reviewers were worried about has never come close to snapping off even during the fall events. The sliding door with the SIM Card came out both times, but with no damage. .
the back metal chrome was scratched on week 1 but its the same for all polished metals, I buffed it back out with some metal polish and a cloth, as far as I can tell 1 month in its still good, and judging the fact the phone was launched into space and came back to earth and working proves testament to it integral robustness and interoperability of environments.
The chrome on the back is heavily scratched of course.
I have 2 very very small scratches on the screen because of two falls. Both are very small though and I never ever notice them unless I look for them.
The biggest damage is on the body. It happened when I dropped my phone from 1.5m and it hit the ground extremely hard at the corner of the phone where the 3,5mm jack is. The 3,5mm jack held up luckily enough considering the fall it had which can be seen on the image below.

Other than that it is totally mint! The build quality is excellent.

All in all, perfectly.. or much better than my old HTC Desire HD at least. I was amazed when the Lumia survived with just a small bump from the fall from almost 1.5 meters into concrete. I am pretty sure my HTC would have died instantly.

Really? I have had my DHD for over a year before switching to the Lumia 800, it is still in near-new condition. How do you find the 800 battery in comparison to the DHD? I am finding the 800 to be considerably worse...
That story about bringing back the drowned Lumia back to life is amazing. Goodjob. Anyways, has anyone with an oily phone tried cleaning it with 99% alcohol to see if it gets rid of it? Also you guys could try for a brushed metal look on that chrome piece on the back if the scratches bother you. Like this:

Did anyone receive there Seidio Ibex case yet. If so I would like to see how it looks

I got one a couple days after it came out and immediately returned it without taking any pictures of it. The proximity sensor stopped working while in the case but worked once taken out, there were tiny scratches and residue of some kind on the screen protector. I've spent a lot of money on a lot of cases over the years and I think this is the most disappointed I've been. For the price I was expecting more, I feel it's definitely over-priced. Hopefully you'll have better luck.

Don't tell me that. There are no real other choices for a water-proof case. I don't want a Love Mei... uncle has one and its HEAVY, not heavy.... HEAVY.

I don't need a waterproof case all the time, just for certain occasions. I ended up getting one of the RedPepper waterproof cases for less than 1/2 the price and I'm happy with it. The only draw back is you can't access the s-pen. I stuffed it with paper towels and left it under water for 10 minutes and they were still dry.

I got my case yesterday after waiting almost 4 weeks. I use the proximity sensor to wake up my screen and I've noticed that with most apps that the proximity sensor fails, but there are couple apps that works with the proximity sensor even with the obex case on. Right now, I'm using the obex case with no problems at all including the proximity sensor working just fine.
Touch sensitivity is also very good. This is with using a glass screen protector (feather) along with the built in screen protector. If fits perfectly and doesn't interfere at all with the sensitivity. I was going to take off the screen protector because I've heard that it will interfere with the sensitivity, but I have a thin glass one and it's working the same as before the case was on. I think it can work with thick glass (over .4mm) screen protector as well, but problem is I don't think it will fit within the case since it's already a tight fit with even with a thin one.
Anyway, a very good case IMHO. Only con is the horrible backorder status (you'll probably have to wait a while for Seidio to ship it) and the price is still overpriced no matter how good it is.

Thanks for the review. I am still in the air on water proof case.... I just need something water resistant for swim and fishing season. I dont plan on taking it in the water... but be close to it with a phone is always bad.
I did find this in my search.... makes me wonder.

If waterproof is a necessity, I would plunge for the obex. I did the water test before I put my phone in the case and it's pretty flawless. Some water will seep in through the port area, but the actual inside is very dry.
I can't really say for sure for other brands as this is my first waterproof case, but I would be cautious of other brands especially nameless ones. But like you said, if it's just to cover from light water or splashes, I would say go for a case that just covers the whole phone (including ports). Just make sure not to drop it in water. ]
Also, I know that I said the price is a con, but in the end, that's just subjective so take that with a grain of salt lol.
As requested by the OP, here are some pictures. Please forgive me for the incredibly crappy quality as I took these pictures with a 4 year old Xperia device. The camera is not too great on it unfortunately.
Hopefully someone does it a proper review and provides better pictures than I do. These pictures really don't give justice to how sleek the actual case is.
I'm glad someone is having better luck than I did with the Obex case. For $30 I'm completely happy with the RedPepper case, I've tested it again for 20 minutes (instead of 10) underwater and it's still dry inside.
How deep in the water did you go? Will it just float? What about a toilet fall?
Any practical test? Not just a glass of water or bowl.

The last time I tested it I was ice fishing on Monday (with it 70 degrees out, in shorts and a t-shirt), I tied some extra line to the lanyard, weighted it and left it in 3 feet of water for 20 minutes total. This was just with paper towel in the case. I'll check tonight and see if it floats with the phone in it. I'm not willing to drop my case in the toilet, sorry, I'd want a new case afterwards.

You did enough to convince me. Im totally sold... now to just wait for the case to hit 30-50 bucks. $80 is too large. I'll get a cheaper one till then.
As for a toilet fall... i'm looking an impact before water submersion is all. Most of the time it hits the inner bowl first. BUT who text will standing over the toilet... i would never admit to that one. Same thing with the swimming pool... slip, side of the pool... bounces into water.

You'll be happy with the RedPepper case. I mostly got mine for fishing and swimming. If it gets wet it will only be for a few seconds anyway but I wanted to test it to see how waterproof it actually is when left under water.
Seidio case is getting sent back. 3 ft of water about a minute water inside..... Such a bummer... all seals check and left it in a bowl of water for 15 minutes when i first got it no issues maybe 3 feet was to much for it....

Broken front glass. LCD and touch is fine.

Front glass has been shattered from a not at all nasty fall. Display and touch is absolutely fine. I enquired with one mi service center they don't change the glass alone. They change whole screen, touch and the glass which costs INR 6300. How much does it take get the front glass replaced from a third party shop?
I had just taken off old tempered glass 4 days ago and was waiting to install a new one. And this happens.
I got my front glass replaced yesterday for 950₹ in Hyderabad,India
I finally fixed mine for INR 1050. It's as good as new. For anyone out there, for the love of god DO NOT USE THE COVER THAT CAME WITH THE MOBILE. It gives fall sense of security.

I guess this is from local shops. So was it just the front glass replacement or the whole lcd screen is replaced? How long does it take to do the replacement?
From looking up youtube videos I think it's a lot more work to replace just the glass. It seems to be bonded to the touchscreen so it looks easier to replace them as one unit

About half an hour minimum. Only front glass has been replaced. There are three separate elements viz front glass, touch panel, lcd screen. Change whichever is damaged. If you go to authorised xiaomi service center they will replace everything for about 30% value of the phone, regardless what has damaged.

We can't change it ourselves unless we have those professional ovens and vacuum chambers. Leave it to the experienced people.

Thanks lockhrt999! In my case, I think it is just the glass that is broken. Now if I get that replaced, I think it will be a normal glass and not a gorilla glass. How does the normal glass hold up in daily use?

I think it was scratch resistant. Gorilla glass are overrated. Every damn thing these days is scratch resistant. Get your front glass replaced and install a tempered glass and it'll be better than gorilla glass.

~₹1100 at most mobile repair shops. That's for the glass alone. Upto 1k extra for touch maybe.
An extra bit of info:
1. There is a slight chance that the replacement of glass may damage the display. So keep that in mind, the last time i was there my display was slightly damaged, there was a black line running along the display. Although you will get the chance to check the display before the new glass is applied so make sure to check it before applying new glass. It will cost around Rs. 1000.
2. The replacement glass is just normal glass like the tempered glass. It is scratch resistant to some degree but it is not very strong and will break if drop from a height.
3. The whole folder and assembly will cost somewhere around Rs. 1600. If anyone is asking for more than this then do no fall for them. Because only the certified xiaomi store sells replacement folder (display+touch) that is original, and that is around Rs. 6000. If buying from a third party seller there is 100% guarantee that it will be duplicate and not original.
4. The original screen can have varying issues depending upon the panel installed. On some panels you may get back light bleeding issues, on other panels you may get touch issues. So Rs. 6000 for them is overkill. Similarly the local screen may also have some issues. Some local screen will have issues regarding brightness and color intensity. Some will have touch issues where you will either get resistant touch problem where the touch will sometimes not respond or will require more force to be used, or you will require a custom kernel to be flashed for the touch to even function. So anyways check the panel before installation.
So to cap it all if you do not want to take chances with third party display or touch and want to keep original then you can get the glass replaced but there might be slight chance that the display may be damaged. In that case always check the display before applying new glass. Or you can just get everything new but then again that will be local and not original, so remember do not pay more than Rs. 1600 for replacement screen. Seriously paying more than that on screen replacement for this phone is a joke as even the original screen have a ton of issues.
I hope this will help someone out there.
Have a good day.

Some areas of the screen, when I press on them. are not responding properly. for example, on the keyboard, when I press "4", it reacts as if I pressed Space bar.
Do you think is can be fixed?

probably a broken touch and i believe it can be fixed. but its better to get a new display altogether if the touch and display are combined. After market touch are not that good, and front glass removal have a slight change of damaging the display.
