[Q] Two apps open side by side? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Im currently using my prime at school for notes and it would be a great help to be able to have two apps / documents / etc. open side by side. As far as i know cornerstone is the only thing that does anything similar to this however theres no stable ports for the prime that i know of.
Does anyone know of other solutions for his? Has the creator for aircalc made a floating image browser and document reader?
Im rooted but not unlocked, tho if there is a stable port for something that can do this i may be tempted to try.
So, what suggestions do you guys have? Thanks in advance!

Well, you can have a floating browser, which I find is typically the second thing you want to see at once:
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...7vjaCXih9qE8yMusA&sig2=XGR1Pd-yhq4jb1dQ8aDhtg
It's pretty handy to look up something for reference w/out leaving what you're working on...

[Q] Best rom to use with lapdock?

Hey everyone, I just ordered one of those refurb lapdocks for $99 USD ($28 shipping to alberta
And I was wondering What was the best rom to use for a good lapdock experience
im using bell 2.3.4 cwm zip right now, is there a better rom/ webtop combination to use then stock?
In all honesty, the lapdock experience was rather shoddily put together by Motorola in the first place. Most ROMs do not come pre-packaged with webtop for this reason. I'm not so sure how effective trying the webtop on custom ROMs is without owning a lapdock myself (yet). From my understanding, HDMI mirroring has been a viable option for many. I hope to own a lapdock soon in hopes of contributing to improving the experience.
Im going to be using it mostly for very light word pro, music movies/TV shows and light browsing, Do I need a full debian distro for that or can I use the android apps with the lapdock for that stuff?
In your case, I would test drive purely stock ROM first to establish what to expect of the webtop environment. I don't think you would run into any problems with what you are going to use it for, but should you find something missing you might want to explore custom alternatives.
Be aware that most kernels available lock the CPU at its maximum speed in the lapdock environment. I can't remember if faux123 fixed this in his stopgap kernel or not, but that is the only big issue that comes to mind with custom ROMs

I'm using stock ROM, rooted, along with Webrop2sd. I have xfce4 launcher with Open Office, Gimp, and rdesktop. Couldn't be happier with my phone / PC.
Above configuration took a fair amount of trial and error to get stable and flawless, but I am thrilled with the result.

I have a similar set up. If you take the time to set up your phone/lapdock like this, it's pretty cool stuff! My friends are amazed at the things this phone can do, then they look at thier iphone and shake thier head in disgust...LOL!
Have fun with it!

Posting the same question multiple times is against XDA rules.
Nothing has changed, or else there'd be a bunch of threads/posts about it. You still can't use native webtop (the modified ubuntu one) on anything but the original stock GB ROM.

If you mean the Nook Tablet, then yes, there is the hardware for bluetooth, however, many files are missing from the system and it has not been activated.
That was something that I was going to look into more in the near future, but for now, we do not have bluetooth capabilities.
ahh
oh ok thaks for the quick reply aswell. i also have another question if u dont mind me asking.. i hear alot bout a "CM7". is that better then the root i have atm and is it possible to have that root and use CM7 at the same time?

CM7 is shorthand for Cyanogenmod version 7. It is a complete custom ROM that is available for many devices (but not the NT yet). As with any custom ROM, it is rooted by default.
What you want depends on what you want to use the device for. If you want a B&N device with extra functionality, routing is probably sufficient for you. If you want a fill-blown Android OS, the you'll probably want surging like CM.

People still call Android 'droid'?
Verizon's PR must have really stuck with people, which is what they're meant to do, but seriously, **** them for introducing the most annoying brand term I've ever had to hear.

How does this help the OP?
...and on that note...
Installing one of the many available launchers will help get you closer to the Android experience you are looking for.

Thanks and what launcher should I try to get? Is one better then the other or they all the same
I speak for myself here, and say that you need to try them all, to see which you like better. However if you rather take other peoples opinions instead, i suggest GO launcher.
It's themes are nice, easy customization (and a lot of it too) and it is very similar to my phones home screen so it was easy to get accustomed to it.
However a few peoples problem with GO launcher (and others like it) is that it's a Tablet and it should have a tablet like experience not a phone like one. So some people prefer the Honeycomb launcher as it is a very tablet like experience, though i do not like it myself.
As my personal motto when i go to try something, listen to other peoples thoughts and concerns, then try it myself and make my own decisions.
Here is what NT looks like with GO launcher, though that is a "custom" wallpaper (someone else made it as desktop wallpaper, i color shifted it and made it as a NT wallpaper).

Definitely avoid Honeycomb Launcher. It often force closes and while it may look ok aesthetically, it's really unpolished otherwise (most of what is seen is merely a placeholder or not fully functional).
GO Launcher is good in its simplicity, easy theming, and downloadable widgets and lockscreen. In customization however, I feel that it falls a bit short of my expectations.
I personally use ADW Launcher EX (1.3.3, an older version). It's extremely customizable and besides a few things here and there, your only limit is your imagination.
My current setup may be a bit over your head at the moment, but just to show you, you can check it out here.
Good luck with your tablet. Forums are always here for questions and advice.
thank you all so much the threads been a real help. im atm running adw launcher and it seems to be what i was looking for. i do run into alot of the gapps force close but idk if thats cause of the launcher. also i was wondering if anyone had this issue too, i download a app (stupid zombies) and its downloaded onto the device, but when i say move to sd card the app disappears and when i try and move it back it says "not enough memory to move to device" or something like that. is there anyway to fix that issue?

I'm guessing this has to do with parts of the Google framework missing. Is there a reason you want to move stuff to the SD card? Apps are installed to the B&N partition, so you have somewhere in the neighborhood of 12 GB to install apps.
so when you download apps from the android market they go to the storage for B&N? i was thinking this whole time i had bout 1g of memory so i went out and bought a 32gig memory card and wanted to move them there so i didnt use up all my tablet memory.

Run Apps Side-by-Side?

Hi,
Not sure if this has been discussed before.. but with my tablet I am constantly running into the need for switching between apps quickly. While this is done easily enough, it would be nice to have more than one application open on the screen at a time. While browsing the web for something that fulfills this, I stumbled upon this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MedNfbKVMSM
This is exactly what I need! While this is not an app, this is something that I would love to have. Does anyone have any similar applications they use? Or any work around? I heard that CM9 might have Cornerstone included.. that would be very nice.
Thanks!
That is a very interesting concept. Would be great to enhance productivity. Bout to check out their site.

EDIT2: Downloaded the zip from github. Looks like a flashable zip, but I'm not taking any chances. No sense in bricking! Maybe someone more educated on this stuff can chime in.
This is something a developer must work into their rom. Just hope that in the future a Rom has one baked into it (that is if you unlock/flash cwm and such).
Please do not request it in the dev section though
I know there was some discussion last week about this and the possiblity of it being incorporated into CM9, but I'm not sure where it ended up.
I know there was a discussion from one of the Google engineers urging people not to do it with ICS (as cornerstone is open source now).
Might want to do a google search to see what comes up.

this would be amazing, I cant wait to see what the devs come up with now that we can unlock this baby.
As we have the bootloader unlock tool, sooner or or later there will be a rom with something like this integrated Cant wait!!
Google should be doing something like that on their own, this is genius. Also its perfect on a 1280x800 screen. More than enough room for multiple windows if you arrange it like cornerstone does.
Not sure it will arrive soon. I saw posts on Google+: this product is quite limited, you can only have the three windows, and can't do another way. Intregration in CM9 had begun but it seems quite hard to achieve, very hard programming stuff...
It may have only 3 windows, but I would settle for just 2 windows.. Just to have the ability to have more than 1 app open at a time.
The post from Cyanogen I read on G+ basically said they're not going to implement this. It takes major changes in source code and frameworks, and was really intended to be a commercial feature that OEMs might add into their roms. Doubt we'll ever see this in a CM build.

Well that is a bummer. Could have really used something to open multiple windows...
Personally I would much rather see a true multi-windowed environment such as the one by wind River (http://www.theverge.com/2012/1/7/2688901/android-multi-windowing-wind-river-software-modules) or Ixonos (http://hothardware.com/News/Ixonos-Creates-MultiWindow-Solution-For-Android/)
These are true windowed environments, and make much more sense to me on a larger (tablet) screen.

What can I use the Lapdock for, now that I am on CMx?

The good old Smiley, to make the reading happier:
I am looking for suggestions.
What could I use my Lapdock for, now that I made the switch to CyanogenMod?
Is there a good solution for making the VNC'ed ARM Ubuntu (look for Ubuntu Installer in the Play Store) work better with the touchpad? Should I sell it? Is there a solution to make remote control apps such as TeamViewer or Splashtop integrate with the Lapdock's keyboard and touchpad? Is there any way to make the device switch to Tablet mode without rebooting? That would be rather interesting to see. By the way, the CM9 ROM I am currently running has got Landscape HDMI working flawlessly, so that should not be an issue...
PS: Please do not ignore this thread. Any suggestions are welcome! (Use your common sense though)

I've struggled with the same question on my photon.. If there's working hdmi rotation on your CM, you can still use it for typing out documents, etc. I also used the mirror mode to watch movies on a larger(than phone) screen in bed.
But eventually I just decided to go back to a blur rom and use ubuntop (which is awesome) while waiting for official ICS and someone hopefully porting ubuntu 12.04 to webtop..

Currently, I use it for watching movies as well, and I am looking forward to pairing a Wii Remote and/or a DualShock® 3 to my Atrix™, so that I can play some games such as GTA III and Shadowgun (Max Payne *-*) on the big screen.
I was happy with Blur until the day I ran into that tempting CM9 thread. I did not know what smoothness and responsiveness really were. Blur was the smoothest I thought it could ever get... But I was wrong, and now I have to choose between fluidity and Webtop.
I actually went back to Blur some months ago, but unfortunately, prolonged use of ICS can cause dependence. Believe it or not, I was pretty happy with Blur. Webtop was working flawlessly, I even had BackTrack installed, but then came the relapse: I could no longer resist to ICS. I am now back to CM9, and with it comes my dilemma...
I am looking for a way to use the Atrix™ as a more desktop-ish platform when docked (especially to the Lapdock). I believe the ideal would be Ubuntu through a local VNC client, or a remote desktop app, I just wish they would play nicer with the keyboard and touchpad...
Basically, something like a key mapper (easy-to-use, I am still unable to figure out WiiMoteController's key mapping scheme) for Lapdock's hardware. We could make a keyboard-powered Ouya!
What still concerns me though, is that games would not be optimized for it e.g. Minecraft PE, games where the camera angle for example, is controlled by dragging the screen, so it would have to be a really powerful, but easy-to-use key mapper, and since you can't have everything in life, I'm afraid I'm asking for much...

When the official Ubuntu for Android was announced, even though an Atrix 2 was used for the hands-on part, on the project's official hotsite... It was clearly an Atrix™ 4G standing there on the dock. The differences between our device's design and the Atrix 2's or the Defy's (Defy+'s) are not that obvious, but they are, indeed, noticeable.
You do know what that means, don't you? It means it is almost certain that our device will be on the first batch of officially supported devices!
I don't if the Atrix™ is still there, but if it's not, I can try to find the screenshot I took if you'd like.

I have never thought I'd say this but, "Please don't get off-topic". I'd appreciate it if this gets settled in a new thread or via PM.
Anyway, you said "stock UbunTop", I could be wrong, but I think it's either stock or UbunTop, which is a mod born right here on our neighbor forum, Android Development.
If yours is really stock, I suggest you get BackTrack from the BackTop project, I don't it's got aircrack built-in, and I was unable to install it, so unless you're an experienced hacker, don't get too excited with BackTrack's features, but my point is: It is amazingly faster than Webtop, it seems lighter, I used to be able to run more than 3 different apps simultaneously...
If yours is really running UbunTop I'm afraid I cannot assist you, since webtop2sd never worked for me and BackTop and WebtopMOD were the only I could ever manage to get working on my device...

I can answer this. What he meant is that you should use Paranoid. Paranoid is a rom thats an hybrid of a phone an a tablet, in short words, you can activate tablet mode for some apps, while some other apps still run in phone-mode, for the ease of use.
What I actually meant was to give a name and a designation, which I did.
Google paranoid android rom and you get the website, the website has a much better explanation then I could or should have to provide.
But yes in short it can give you a tablet UI on lapdock.

Actually, part of why people like Paranoid Android so much is because of the ability to not only change modes (tablet, phablet, phone), but also set per-application DPI, size, and modes to change how each fragment operates.
Example: Youtube uses two modes (phone/tablet), and I like the phone mode better. But, I can't use it. Even restoring a phone APK of Youtube results in the tablet UI. PA lets you define Youtube and make it act like a phone!
That kind of flexibility is very powerful, and useful until we get powerful, properly built tablet apps with all of the features we desire. A lot of work? Sure. Possibly worth it? Definitely.

There wouldn't really be too much point as one of the main features of Parandroid is having tablet mode which.....errr you have as its already a tablet. A lot if work for something you already have.

like what Akkeresu said below, it's not only the ability to change modes(although that's what I want most). And plus, who says I wanted tablet mode since I already have it? -.- I want it to look and feel like a Nexus 7. Which is only possible with this ROM as far as I know.

Actually no. The developer of PA quoted this, "no, but someone else can. if you have cm10 you can have pa aswell. it would run right away, theres barely any adjustments to make on our side and aosp is the same on any device anyway, no matter if phone or tablet." So yeah, he said it doesn't really need much tweaking from their side. Just hope someone can just help out to make this happen..:good:
Bump for curiosity' sake.
I think having these capabilities would be amazing,
Anyone willing to take this on?

I can do this quite easily as already have done it once for the prime.
The thing is I really don't have the time to keep remaking it constantly and re uploading new nightlies so if you wait a bit longer for some of the bugs to be ironed out I will knock one up but then I will only make a new one once a month or so.

I 've been looking for a way to get the Nexus 10 UI on my TF201 for like a week. Ofcourse I ended up nowhere. I can get all but the <back> <home> <app switcher> buttons to get in the middle of the bottom, and the rest of the status bar on the top. So during my search i came across the capabilities of the PA Rom. Sadly, I then discovered that the rom is not available for the TF201. Was ready to post in the Q&A section for "how to get the nexus 10 UI on the tf201" but figured i 'd take a look at this thread, and just saw your comment.
so.. in a nutshell, unless you can point me to the right direction (another direction; a way to get the Nexus 10 UI on the TF201) i 'm bumping the request posed with this thread, and ofcourse thanks for your willingness to develop!:good:
Why not just go one better and port Toasted Marshmallow?
