AOSP ICS Kernel - HTC Amaze 4G

Is the Tiamat Amaze kernel usable for AOSP roms? It seems their support says so...

Notes on the Vivid, Amaze, and Rezound:
Development of AOSP ICS ROMs on these devices has been slower than others. A number of factors contribute to that, but consequently, there are not a lot of options for ROMs with which these kernels can operate. The Vivid and Rezound kernels include the bcmdhd WiFi module — this may or may not be functional (ROMs are not far enough along to really confirm one way or the other). The Amaze kernel does not even contain a WiFi module with it, but it does include the staging modules needed to source build an AOSP TIWLAN driver for it — at this point AOSP ROM development is not sufficient to merit building the module.

Well, their web chat is pretty useless then... Stupid question. Delete!

You can try and talk to them. see if they'll help out. We need to bring attention to the Amaze development

Or if we can find their XDA profiles and PM them...

I have contacted Cayniarb, the Tiamat dev team leader, about helping us develop a driver... Hopefully he considers us..

Seriously, add it. Its damn difficult to choose one
@all mik started porting for our phn cm7 when it had various bugs but noW is stable and creating a possibilty of creating official cm7,andy is up with beast rom on weekend, ciaox bringing sense and openoptimus great features, franco playing the best part in kernel without him it wouldnt have been possible to get our phn going for long wth smoothness ,battery, games etc.
So the list doesn't end up here so I beleive p500 thread belongs to all devs who has brought something or the other for the phone and yes even to all users who have always supported the dev and providing that extra boost as without the users nothing can come into use.
sorry for the long lecture but for me - TEAM DEV AND USERS
It really is hard to say bit any user rather advanced or noob is doing so much for our devices. If it weren't for people like djoptimus,Andy, mik, sweetnsour,Dr.notor,or ciaox we wouldn't have great insight on how to custom our phones. Anytime you have a well known dev blowing up the forums with new updates or unknown devs releasing there first rom I have nothing but respect

I think this poll is malformed because franciscofranco and fserve are kernel developers. Andy, mik and others are Roms developers or other things. So they compare in that sense I think it is very difficult.
Well it's just my opinion
Not to pick on anyone but a couple of these people I don't recognize as developers. A developer in my mind is someone who has written and released new code. Also, there's at least one I think you left out.
No offense but for what it's worth I didn't vote and I don't think it's fair to pit them against each other.
all developers all great, but i vote for mik as he first started porting cm7
drellisdee - the first to release an OC .32 kernel for the 01. Also, I think his adb push write up was the first I saw on getting root for the O1.
getitnowmarketing - the first to release a recovery (AmonRa)
Paulo - the first to OC the .35 kernel
Not the most active devs in the O1 community but certainly there names belong in this thread.

Thanks to all the devs and coders

Just a thread of appreciation to all the devs who work and spend time makin the evo all that it can be

At least someone is happy with the GSM development. Section....
+1 to all the developers for the 3d!
(GSM or CDMA)
All this complaining. About locked bootloaders that can be unlocked with the HTC method and do almost everything a real S-off can do and complaints about no ETA or ALPHA ICS build when other "less popular" phones have ALPHAs is leaving a lasting impression on my mental stability with some of the "common" users on here .....
I may have to go on a trolololin spree to show all of you what it was like when S-off wasn't around....or a VERY doable HTC method!
Anyways thanks again all the developers in any of the forums...

I ranted on a thread basically saying the same thing you did, just with a less than tactful approach, I got flamed to hell. How dare I say devs aren't motivated to develop as much because the 3D crowd is ungrateful. I feel the same way you do, and it takes away my motivation to begin developing for the 3D, making it a public contribution anyway. I mean imagine how some of the devs that have made contribution (s) feel? I don't think a lot of users really understand how truly painstaking it is to build something as complicated as a platform is. Even the ROM chefs, using another ROM as a base (which by the way all but about two are, and those that do exist [ground up] are alpha, beta, incomplete) it takes a lot of work writing code, booting the slow ass emulator, testing, recoding, rinse and repeat. It is very time consuming doing everything by yourself, without a team. The amount of complaining....ugh...think of it this way...every custom ROM is basically a product that if released by google (as example) would have to be considered a pre release candidate. Effectively a product that is eternally a beta product, experimental version even.
Anyways, if someone below me says "we just had two of these threads last week, another one really necessary?" I may **** out my pancreas. Yes it is necessary. So thanks devs.

Yes the developers are great and do great work.

AOKP for the vibrant?

Well as the title states I can get the vibrant added to the android open kang project builds (aokp). But I would need a working device tree.
I still have my vibrant even though I never really use it. But I would be willing to bring this rom to this device.
Of course it can be ported but what's the point when there is a dedicated build bot to do it for you? Anyways if you are willing to help shoot me a pm, I will reserve all credits for you. I simply want to spread a good rom to the device I learned on.

There is a port of this Rom a couple of threads below in this section, person who ported this might be interested in this.
Side note, you better be working on some kind of cool red theme for ICS!

But yeah I need a device tree to give constant support I'm sure I can hack one together, but since I have a gnex I'd rather not spoil my time. I'm simply trying to help out. I always loved my vibrant and just trying to show some love.

heck yes. That would be Amazing man. AOKP on ALL of my devices has a great ring to it.
Some here may not be familiar.
I've been trying to sync the repo for the last week or so but keep getting errors, I cant guarantee anything as I am in school and dont have that much time on my hands
I have most of the Device Tree set up, The only thing I'm missing is a kernel file

[Q] is development here dead?

hey everyone... is development here dead or what? i saw ics was being worked on but got dropped. along with miui, a senseless rom, and others...
is there anything we can do to make more development here?
No development is not dead, if your new here, there are a couple things you should know. First, the dev doing all the work here, xboarder56, was banned I believe, he has his own forum and all of his roms are there. Nrgz28, an awesome dev, has an amazing rom. Faux123 has a kernel for OC/UV. Ics is being worked on by xboarder and a member of the cm team. A sense 4.0 port is on the works by a dev in xboarders forum. So, no, development is not dead. If we want more devs devving here, I think we should do what has been done before, a bounty. I believe someone has spoken to a member of the virtious team.
Edit: sorry, xboarder is working on an aosp build with texasice if you know who he is. And the cm team is working on, well, A cm9 build

well i've personally never owned any htc phones. so when i get the amaze 4g, it will be my first. i've made many roms and mods for phones with vanilla android though.
what exactly is s=off and how do you make a htc phone "s=off"?
also, i dont see any boot logo changing threads...
heres my boot logo thread: http://androidforums.com/triumph-al...ed-converter-l-updated-12-29-1-20-pm-est.html
so if i am able to figure something out, i should have some goods to bring to the party!
how high is the chance of bricking on this device?

Can't change splash screen without s=off... Only animations. AFAIK, s=off is a security flag put into a system partition to prevent us from flashing new radios, flashing splas screens, or flashing kernels in recovery... HTC has made it more difficult for devs to access this and hack the exploit, so we are for now... Stuck. Team Revolutionary has hacked a few devices, but they don't have an amaze.
It's becoming a pain in the ass. Because the phone is a North American marketed device (vs a world market device)lacks worldwide development... And devs that are in the states that can get the phone don't want it because no s=off.
There's approx a $1k bounty out for whoever hacks it though.... Although nobody seems to be biting on it.
The Amaze forum is a mess... Lol but the phone is a beast.
Edit.... As far as I know, the phone cannot be bricked. I've yet to hear of any "real" brick... Only soft bricks that can be fixed.

its not dead but, I have a feeling its going to be soon. with the discontinuation of the amaze... the parting of xboarder and binary to their own forum. The forum has lost its momentum. what is left from development is from before. compared to the sgsII forum, you can def call the amaze dead on development. yes xboarder is working on ICS and cyanogen is planning of an AOSP rom. I think we will see no other kernel developers besides faux, unless it's for ICS.. and I think the developers we have now are the only ones that we've got. With the anouncement of new HTC phones more developers are going to shift gears...some developers from here might even shift gears...they might send us an update on a rom here and there but that'll be it. if you look at the development of successful phones such as the nexus one, samsung vibrant, galaxy nexus etc, all of them are still going very very strong even though they came out 2 years ago, the vibrant a 2 year old phone already has multiple ICS roms available, multiple kernels, etc. we're pretty much done here. the developers we have here had to be bountied anyways. My personal opinion is that there is no interest left in the amaze development wise besides a couple of developers....sorry but have to be realistic.

I've been looking at what's been going on at xda & it seems like development for the Amaze is moving but not as fast as the sensation. Is it easier to develop for that phone than it is for this one. I known this phone has more power than the sensation so why are there so many ROMs for the sensation. Thanks for all your help guys.

I am going to wait and see how the new phones that T-Mobile gets. If the One X has more development, might as well to switch over with something that has more activity.
I would say there are two main differences between this phone and the Sensation. (1) The Sensation is owned by far more people (ergo, more developers), and (2) Development is more difficult without S-off. I'm just guessing here, because I'm not a developer, but those seem to be our biggest problems.

[Bounty]-Semaphore kernel/app on G2(D802 for now)

Hey guys,
**Please for now just donate who have the D802 version,if we reach the amount needed, then he will see with the device in his hand if he can add support to other variants**
Our G2 dont have a lot of kernels options, and lately i see a lot of people asking for more developing,so i spoke with stratosk and his more than interested in developing to G2 but he can't afford the device.
He will develop a stock kernel + integration with sempahore app(free),about CM support he is not sure if will be.It depends on the changes they made in the kernel. If it's a totally new branch, he will not develop for CM.
The device (D802) in greece cost 555$ so maybe if we all donate smalls amount we can give him a device and bring one more kernel developer to G2.
*About stratosk:
-Stratosk is a recognized developer on XDA
-Developed awesome kernels to popular devices like Galaxy S1 and Nexus 4
-He has more then 25k thanks
-Semaphore app has more then 50000+ download on play store
I think thats better that we just donate if we reach the necessary amount, but if/when we reach please everyone who promised an amount donate!!!!

First of all I would like to thank zevim2005 for this thread. Thank you very much!
@mickskillz
Thank you very much for your intention. But I really can't confirm that I can release a kernel without having the device to test.
I really don't know the differences between the devices, so I can't promise anything about this variation.
Can't you go and look at the different device trees prior to commiting kernels updates to see whats what? We already have a pretty good kernel thread that supports CM11 and Stock across all of the variants.
I would suspect that you should do your homework about which devices you plan to support (all, some, one, none) and get back to us. I'd love to throw down some cash for the VS980 Verizon variant but not if you don't plan on supporting it. I just think people would be more inclined to donate if we had more information.
I'll pledge $20 if you can promise VS980 support.

I agree... I understand where you are coming from, but I've donated enough in the past for no reason. I like to support our DEVS, specifically the ones that support my device. If you are able to sort thru some of the commits or check what wootever has done for our kernel, maybe you can get a better ideal if you are capable of supporting the verizon variant. Thanks and I hope we can raise enough to get this going.

There is no homework for me to do, my friend.
As it is mentioned in OP, this is for D802. I can't be sure for all variants. This is clear from my side. Please DO NOT participate for other variants.
zevim2005 had this idea and I appreciate this.
I feel very uncomfortable talking about donations and this bounty.
This is maybe my last post in the thread. If someone knows me (or my work) and wants to contribute I will be grateful.
I don't promise that I will make the device fly like a rocket or that the new kernel will solve all your problems.
I promise Semaphore kernel and Semaphore Manager app for G2 (D802 variant). Nothing more nothing less.
Thanks everybody for your time.
