Ever since around the time i downloaded a battery indictor to show the %age in the notifications, i have been having some odd experiences.
It says its 100% charged all the time but it runs down to 1% within and hour and stays on 1% for a few hours.
But a few days ago, things got worse, now it doesnt ever charge, i plug it in and it says discharging. I left it charging overnight but it never charged. I have to plug it in and out a couple of times before it actually charges. And im pretty sure the battery doesnt last as long anymore.
Anyone else have this problem? I deleted the app already, put device on and off, unrooted, problem still there
is this a faulty battery?
go on pc companion and repair the phone. If this still happens then send it sony most likely a hardware fault
Did you try resetting the battery by switching off the phone holding the volume up button for 5 secs ?? Its as same as pulling out your battery.
Good afternoon!
This happened to my sxs during the first charge, when it charged up to 53%, no matter how long I left it on the charger. This was fixed with a simple phone restart, and never happened again since then...
Sent from my LT26i using XDA
Yeah tried that and I think it fixed it but I still can't get it to charge, just found out that once it reaches 100%, it discharges but doesn't stop discharging at 95% but instead doesn't charge until flat

The best option is to send the phone back to Sony
There are always be bad phones like 1 of the 10000. Maybe this time it hit you..

H, I just got the x10a. I have some questions about the process of charging the phone.
With my last 2 phones, an k850 and a xperia x1a i learned to charge the phone every night. I arrived at home, plugged the phones to their chargers , sleep. Wake up, went to work at 7, battery was at 100% every morning.
Now with the x10a, i arrive at home, battery is almost at 40% aprox, plug the phone to the charger, and go to sleep, wake up at the same time and battery is always at 60~70%, with the cable and back of phone running hot. Yesterday went to see the phone status at 11pm, battery was at 90%, went to sleep, wake up at 4am checked the phone and battery was at 52%, so instead of charging, was discharging, is this normal behavior? I removed the battery and put it on again and the charge jumped to 85%.
All of this is normal?

Kind of if it's new, cycle the battery a few times and it should sort itself out.
Yeah the same thing happens to me. I checked juice plotter and at 2:30 am, I'm fully charged then at 5:00 am, I'm at 70 percent. The it repeats the cycle.

That is very odd.. has someone timed how long it takes for the battery to get to 100% Just today I got the please charge now message.. it took 2 hours give or take to get to 100% it maybe you need to cycle the battery. I am using my blackberry 9700 battery charger ( OEM one was left in my hotel room ) The blackberry is output 5VDC and 700mA.
I've noticed that charging the phone using a USB port takes a lot more time that when using an AC/DC adaptor. The USB ports on my PC give out 100 milliamps while the AC/DC adaptor that came with the phone gives out 700 milliamps. Are you charging using a PC USB port or an AC/DC adaptor?

I've had this happen a few times I plug the phone in at night & when I wake up it's still charging and warm. I now shut my phone off before plugging in the charger & have not had the problem. My guess is some process is running in the background preventing it from properly charging.
ya just cycle the battery few times and it should be okay. it should be noted that the x10 will charge to 100% and stop charging until the battery drops down to 90% (at least for me)
Phone off worked!
Had a same weird issue after 5 months of usage. First 5 months were fine (needed to charge once every 24 hours). Have noticed in past 2-3 days that when I leave it for chanrging overnight, it does not go to 100%. Sometimes it would go upto 76%, other time 86 and so on. Cannot understand this. Have not installed anything in last 2-3 days either. Do not know the root cause but solution suggested by Phoneguy above worked. That is, I put netwrok setting OFF and then switch my phone OFF. Then I plugin phone to charger and start charging. This way it is getting charged to 100%. Hopefully this workaround will last for another year, at least

Mine does the same thing. I checked with battery graph. It charged to 100% and then it'd stop and drop to 90% and charged back to 100%, in repeated cycles. Is this just a X10 thing? I want to have 100% before leaving the house!

This is normal and for Security. When you leave the Phone charging when it has 100 it stops Charging until 90 or something then charge again becouse if it wouldnt do it your Battery will run too hot and could make real damage.

The phone actively discharges the battery when plugged in. I've tried the above suggestions and they worked, but only found small success as the battery wouldn't charge past 40%. Now my phone will not boot and the battery is completely drained.
I called SE North America last night and they told me that I broke the battery. I called BS and they then told me that they'll send me a free new battery as a courtesy despite it not being covered in the warranty. Overall, a pretty good experience, but the key point the rep said was to not trickle charge the battery.
I do have a sneaking suspision that it's not the battery because it's only 5 months old, but good because they didn't say anything about the phone not being officially released in the US and not being supported by a warranty.
I hope this post doesn't get deleted as well...lolz.
here it is my graph for the last day, plugged the charger aroung 4pm batt was at 13%, in the office and around 8pm from home, if you see, from 8:44pm to 9:41pm the batt was at 100% an then it goes down and reach 60% at 3am, so it was discharging, and then it tried to charge to reach 100% but couldnt. at 6:30am i woke up and bat was at 78%. so, how can i get it to keep the charge, i dont mind going form 90 to 100 but not going from 100 to 60 and to 100.
anybody can help?
The phone was freshly charged overnight. I was using the internet while listening to music through (3rd party) headset and since the 3G signal in the building was kinda ****ty I switched the phone to EDGE (GSM only). Then I quit the Settings menu and opened Firefox, tried to load a web page and at this point the phone froze. I'm not sure if I restarted it or it restarted on itself but after the boot the battery was showing about 40% less. So I turned the phone off, pulled the battery, rebooted, same reading.
I used the phone for a while after that and now it's showing critically low battery and I'm wondering what should I do now?
Is it really so low on battery or the reading is wrong?
Can 40% battery disappear just like that and what could cause it?
Should I charge the battery or let it discharge until it turns off by itself?
Battery screenshot attached.
Perhaps a battery calibration issue caused due to the crash, my advice would be to drain the battery all the way down to zero and let the phone turn off, remove and reinsert battery and proceed to charge till full and then turn the phone on again. Hopefully issue should be a one-off and now resolved.

happend to me before on my htc desire hd..battery pulled and battery stats dropped down the gutter..just let the battery die and charge fully or even just charge it up to 100% from where u at now..doesnt matter it will fix itself...
My phone was doing the same thing, it was rebooting or shutting down two or three times a day, usually a few minutes after taking off of charge.
I have sent it back for a replacement.
Do not drain the battery to zero. There is not reason to go belox 10% charge, as you could damage the battery if going to 0. These are new batteries much smarter then old ones.
You don't need to drain to zero but it won't do any harm if you do. Probably a wee softwre glitch. Wouldn't get too worried about it.
a good option is battery doctor - its a free aplication from the market...
let your battery go down to 20% and then open the app in charging mode...let it charge(dont close the app during the charging process, just keep it open)...woallla.. u have made a full cycle charge - easy as that...
My phone dropped to 7% battery. I let it charge for an hour with airplane mode on and it was at 4% battery. The orange light was on the whole time meaning it was charging. I then turned it off, took the battery out and it went to 13% battery. Soon it went back to 4%. I let it charge again for 2 hours this time and it hadn't moved at all and was still at 4%. I then swapped the stock battery for one from China. It started with 60% battery and after a half hour of charging it went to 54%. Why does my battery drain while it charges? I don't even use it when it's charging so I have no idea why it's draining. I'm running stock ics but it's rooted with 4ext. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Charge with AC not through an USB plugged to your computer. Your phone is using more battery than the USB port can provide. If you plug it in through the normal AC charger, it should be fine, as it gives out 1.0A, while USB ports typically give out anywhere between 200 to 500mA (at its absolute maximum).
I am using the ac. That message even appears when I use the ac.
Have you tried turning it of and charging?
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda app-developers app
I have tried that and it only turns on to what the battery was at before. As I typed this I went from 54% to 21% in about 10 minutes. This is really starting to piss me off. My phone cannot hold a charge. My motorola from 8 years ago could at least hold a charge. This is ridiculous. Thanks so far for the help.
Are you using the factory Amaze Cord to charge your phone?
My factory amaze cord stopped charging via ac. I had it plugged into the wall and it would say usb charging so I'm using a different kind of cord. I've never had a problem using my sisters blackberry cord plugged into the usb converter to ac.
Maybe....just maybe...your devices charging port is defected...
I have some charger from China that goes from the wall straight to my phone without using that charging port and it doesn't charge it either.
China should only be used for one thing...Chinese People
I tried another one of my batteries that had a 60% charge. Within 10 minutes the battery was dead. I have it charging and the orange led is flashing. I waited 20 minutes and tried turning it on. After several presses of the power button it finally turns on. As soon as it gets to the home screen the low battery sound beeps and it shuts down. Seriously what am I supposed to do? This is getting ridiculous.
Thanks.
Have you looked into doing a warranty exchange...

I have not. This has only happened 3 times or so since I got it a week or so after launch. I didn't suspect it to be a hardware problem. I think the person who suggested the bad power port was correct because my Chinese charger charged it full perfectly and it's been good. It just has to be held at a certain angle to charge. I'm going to go to Telus and try and get a new power port and see, maybe I could get an exchange. I have it rooted though, so would I have to unroot it get the exchange?
Thanks.
Step one, dim the phones lighting.
Then check to see if there's an app keeping the phone awake causing it to drain battery while charging,
If its not an app keeping it awake then you my friend are one of the unlucky owners of this picky phone...

I will try to explain my problem clearly and in a concise manner.
My battery started giving problem since a few days back. That time I had ICS in my phone.
My phone having enough battery gets shutdown in the middle of nowhere.
If i turn it on,it shows battery to be 0 or 1%.Then i used to set it on charging, and it used to work normally and battery starts getting charged from 1%.
On the other hand,if instead of turning up the phone and charging again, when i used to plug the charger in without turning on phone, my phone shows the correct battery percentage. And it starts charging normally.
To summarise-
My phone having enough battery gets shutdown in the middle of nowhere. If my phone gets off on 70% automatically, and if i plug the charger keeping the mobile off,it starts charging from 70%.But if I turn on the mobile and plug the charger,it starts charging from 0%
So this thing worked for a few days. After that my phone started turning off quite frequently. And I had to plug the charger everytime it turns off so as to turn it on again.
A couple of days back,I flashed cyanogenmod JB and siyah kernel.Since then it has been worse.
Now phone doesnt even last a minute even after full charging. It just shuts down as soon as I turn it on.I tried clearing battery stats.
I am unable to use my phone, its next to a dead phone. Please help !
What should I do to save my phone?

Are you sure battery needs to be replaced?
One more thing, after flashing JB, the battery percentage doesnt fluctuate as before.
It gets off at say 70%, and then it doesnt matter if i charge it keeping phone on or off,the charging starts at 70%.
Its just that the phone gets off for no reason as soon as it is turned on.
There is an app on market called My Battery Status, you can check your battery health with it.

Replace the battery
Hi there anyone have any ideas been using my Z2 since last Friday and yesterday for some reason the device will not charge to 100 % only goes up to 96%
I have tried a different charger and still get the same problem , Also downloaded Sony pc companion software and run the repair tool to see if it resolves the issue and still same problem
Try discharge battery to 1-2% (some advise even till auto-off device) and then fully charge with bundled charger.
Mine does the same thing, don't worry.
The reason this happens is that once your battery is at 100%, it stops charging automatically, and the device waits for it to get down to 99% before starting to charge again.
Is it possible that you just keep catching it at 99%?
Mine will charge about 1% every four minutes until it hits 99%. Then that last one percent takes a couple of hours. This is according to the power/percent list in gsam. It's done it consistently from day 2. Day 1 it failed to charge beyond 80% overnight.

thanks for your help I will try a full discharge and then try charging it and see how it goes
Finally battery is flat the phone turned off , charging it now with the sony charger which came with the z2 , will let you know what happens
I did a live chat with sony and they say the device is faulty and needs to be repaired
I have rang my network provider and they will send me a new z2
96% charge and wont charge no more!!
would really like to understand what is the solution to the problem.
This is really annoying . Please need all possible inputs.
Do you think its a product issue and needs to be replaced with a new piece.
Mine charges, but...
My Z2 will charge to 100%, but after it gets to 95% the screen turns on, and stays on.
If I push the power button on the phone to turn the screen off, the screen will turn off for between 0.5-1.5 seconds, and then turn itself back on.
I have gone through quite a few settings on my phone and can't find anything that might affect this other than perhaps "Night Mode" - which I have disabled.
Please help, my provider refuses to replace my phone even though I got it brand new from them and it's only 21 days old... I do love the phone, I just hate this issue - I can't leave it charging over night, or run the risk of having the phone over heat (it happened once, this is how I first found out about the problem, I had to leave the phone off with a fan on it for a good hour before it was cool to the touch again.)
@The Midnighter
I think you have a faulty unit, mine (2nd one) doesn't even overheat unless I have severe CPU/GPU intensive apps running. Never had a charging problem either... Get it replaced mate
I always charge the phone power off, when it is full charged I get the vibra notification and the phone is 100%.

I forgot to mention - you reminded me.
When I leave my phone off and plugged in, it will charge to 100% - however I have to do a HARD RESET every time I go to turn my phone back on, after turning it off. (Holding power and volume up) or it sticks on the "SONY" screen and will not advance.
Since xperia S there is a feature which helps battery keeping good condition
Its charge to 100% and turns charging off till 95%
Its all becouse integrated battery

It is indeed a problem, because the screen is staying on and causing my phone to over heat - it once over heated so badly because of this I had to leave the phone off for a very long time.

I have the exact problem. The phone work ok for a few days and then stop charging at 92% and the screen stay on. I plug the charger in the night and in the morning was only at 92% and hot, very hot.
A few days ago I bought a dock charger and an usb cable to plug in the magnetic lateral charging port. And with both chargers the phone shows the charge icon for a second and desapear for another second and repeat the loop.
I try everything in the software level. Restore the firmware using pccompanion and also flash the lollipop firmaware but the problem persist. Just not tried delete the battery stats because my phone is not rooted yet.

Did u manage to fix the problem? Or did anyone here manage to fix the battery charging issue? Mine charges to 78%, then sometime 85% then hard-reset - 91%. Cant charge anything above that! : <
There's no real fix, you can only hope a rollback to KitKat might help. See this lengthy forum post on the sony forums:
https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z2/Lollipop-charging-bug/td-p/965384
Spanning from april until right now...
Mine only gets to 70-80% on an overnight charge.
Mine charges and discharges constantly, I try change the cable, the AC adapter, the usb on my computer, the micro usb port to magnetic... Always is the same.. and another times charges too good.
Some times charge to 99% and discharge to 98%.. so I disconnect and connect again and charges to 100%
Maybe it's a Lollipop .232 problem in some devices?
Hi! Same problem here, sometimes my phone doesn't charge to 100% and I have to unplug the charger and plug it in again to get 100%. I think it's pretty common, but if your phone only charges till a low percentages and just doesn't charge further, it might be so that the phone's afflicted with the Lollipop charging bug. We can only wait for Marshmallow then
