guys..please help me out with my battery temperature issue - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello friendz..i am a owner of Samsung Galaxy S2 which i purchased last September & i live in New Delhi, India where the temperature is always above 41ºC in summer..& since the mid of the May month when the city's temperature has gone to its peak (41ºC to 45ºC), my S2 started giving me serious hang problem..the screen's becoming un-responsive & everytime i have press the lock button to & then unlock the phone to get rid from it..i was on stock ICS 4.0.3..first i thought that it could be some Virus or Software problem..so i format the phone & memory card, applied the factory reset & even cleared the cache-partition, but still the problem haven't gone. then i even flashed back to official gingerbread 2.3.5 to check whether the firmware would be a problem or not..but still the screen-hang problem persisted..then i paid a visit to customer service & the engineer there said that the screen-hang problem is due to hot summer which makes the insides of the phone like processor & battery to get heat up fast which results those occasional hang-ups when the phone is warm. and they just updated my firmware back to ICS. so when i came back home, i install Battery Thermometer from the Market & measured the battery..& i realized that my phone give the Screen-Hang when the Battery temp exceeds 36ºC & works stable below & within 35ºC..& this temp i am getting in Idle with WIFI & 3G on 24x7 in normal room condition & when sitting in AC, the battery temp is 29ºC to 33ºC & it works like a charm till 35ºC, so please tell whether there is a problem undergoing with my S2? & if the phone really hangs above battery temperature of 35ºC? please tell me asap..thank you..!!

I'm in mumbai, and well my phone heats up till 40, 45 if I charge too long...
Screen unresponsive shouldn't happen coz of this temperature as I normally don't face this...
Did you drop your phone recently?

problem Phone turning off when charging, URGENT

Hi guys,
I seem to have a problem with my X10i, it randomly turns off by it self, below are the times in which ive noticed this:
Phone is charging and i am texting at the same time or talking for like 5 mins and then turns off
phone charging and it gets too hot and it turns off
phone turns off when hot generally,
i play a racing game for 20 mins and it turns off.
When it turns off it tries to reboot, it boot it s then turns off again, i have to take the battery appart, wait for 10 mins plug it back in and turn it on.
This gets annoying as it shouldn't really do this and its not as if i put my phone on top of the radiator in order for it to get hot.
Please help
Ps. it did this on android 1.6 and 2.1 so that didnt fix it.
Regards
Well, this is definitely a hardware problem... you should return it to warranty or try and get it robbed to activate insurance if you have one... lol

Hey,
Thanks for the reply, i have also noticed that when the phone turns off it make a small clicking noise.
Thanks for the suggestions but im in greece and i have no insurance cover and the phone was given as a gift so i don't know what is up with the warranty.
Totally a Hardware problem... Just take it to the nearest SE Repair. It'll cost you though.. :\ They Charge really high if u dnt have wwarranty.
Any ideas on which hardware could be causing this? do you reckon it could be just the battery getting too hot? or something else?
You will still have warranty even if it's gifted (through imei )

Oh nice i hope that is the case, i 'm not sure if its been a year though, how long does the warranty cover?
One year. Warranty is for one year and two years on special contract basis if i'm not wrong.
If your phone keeps restarting, (Heating) another issue could be wrong (or high) OC settings (like setcpu to high values) or something. Which fw are you running atm?
Try reflashing to Stock and see if the same thing happens?
I had the similar issue , I flashed it to Wolfs 2.2 switched off the mobile, Removed battery and let it cool down. After sometime it fixed the issue by itself

Hey,
Thanks for your reply, i do not know what oc speed i have or how to overclock, as for my version i have the stock 2.1 android rom and build 2.1.A.0.435
I DON'T KNOW HOW TO FLASH, i have seen tutorials but everytime i set my phone to usb debugging mode it over heats and turns off
Have nearly same problems. Looks like you have fuel gauge ic problems, max17040, to be exact. Or Qualcomm PM7540 power distribution ic, which is much worthier. Does your battery level changes sometimes after that glitches, and returns to normal after battery re-installation?

yes that does happened sometimes, the battery is on red and the phone crashes, but then when i take the battery out and plug it back in after 10 mins i get a white bar in the battery so in theory it has more battery than when it crashed.

Faulty PCB or battery?

I have been having overheating issues where the phone constantly shut itself down until it cooled down, I finally called AT&T to see if they could replace the phone. From my description the tech rep taught it is the battery that is faulty. I purchased the phone last August, for the first few months phone worked without a glitch, then towards the end of the fall, it started restarting while using GPS apps like Google Nav. I thought it was app related and didn't pay my attention. Placing the phone in a cradle where car's A/C cooling it actually helped so I realized it is overheating. Nowadays it is so bad that anything that makes the processor run shuts the phone down, using internet, talking on the phone, charging.... The phone literally gets hot starts to reset itself in my pocket. Tech rep was saying if PCB was faulty the phone wouldn't have gradually become what it is now... What do you guys think?
i think u shud check whats ur processor speed like if its running at 998 mhz constant then it might be a problem but if it isnt then i think u shud get it checked!!!
hope it clears u a bit
thx me if it helps !!!
They are sending me a new battery, I will try it with that but since I put the stock 2.1 on the phone, I am not sure how the processor is going about setting speed.

Phone gets warm randomly?!

My girlfriend's ACE has randomly developed issues in the last 12-14months, shes had it since release date (we walked in to THREE and said do you have the Galaxy ACE, the woman said yes but its not on display so its on sale, The manager disagreed with her and was like "WE'll sell it!". I got £200 out and said I want one, the woman didnt know were to look)
anyhow after 3months she started getting issues where the signal would drop no a non-existent level and return only after 3-4 reboots. I flashed/updated via kies and all was well for 2 months ish and the issue returned so I rooted once again (I rooted as-soon as the update.zip was available) then the issue subsided but has returned randomly but now the phone is begining to what I can only describe as "short-out" no drops, bangs or water damage but the battery and whole phone have begun to get about 37/38*c+ its ridiculous.
at first I thought she was making a big deal out of the average overheating most phones get but NO I gave her my home R800i and said use that for today and ill use the ace (Eurgh the screen is tiny!) and I realised that its getting stupidly hot even when just basicly texting, no 3G on or Wifi, screen was turned low until I wanted to use it etc blah blah
WTF is going on?!
Anyone help with the loss of signal too? It has become frequent with over heating like... everytime it over heats the signal goes until I remove the back cover to leave it to cool.
the heat is like my R800i when I clock to 1.9GHz..
I think i got that overheat issue with stock rom with stock kernel when i first got this phone.
Now with custom rom and custom kernel all is good. Still heating when charging but i can really say never while actually using, even with heavy use of wifi for 3-4 hours.

Galaxy alpha heating after purchase

I have bought a galaxy alpha four days ago. The device was working very well the first days with no problems. Excellent phone. It was getting warm, but I know this is normal for phones.
However the warm became worse, at the point the display was heating so much to risk to burn my finger. The display is now constantly getting warm even when doing simple tasks (whatsapp, browsing internet) and it is uncomfortable to use.
If I try to do a intensive task (like playing a game), even only for a few minutes, then it becomes hot and it makes the display almost untouchable. The top part of the display is especially affected by the problem. The back cover in plastic is also warm, but nothing that prevents me from safely holding the device in my hand
I have tried to turn off the phone and let it to cool down. However, after turning on the device again, the phone gets warm like before.
Is all of this normal? I'm aware that every phone becomes hot with use, but I believe my alpha is exxaggerated. I think it's a problem of faulty device, but I'd like to know your opinions first before to go back to the shop.
Thank you for answering
do you uodate to android 5?alpha get hot if your screen brith 100%.....or use a case or cover........or using 3g 4g wifi all time.....its a cool dvice but like all phone can get hot

I say return it and get a replacement. Yes, the phone does heat up from both Kitkat and Lollipop builds but not to the point where it "burns" fingers.

hi had a similar problem like this with my alpha phone as well not to the degree where it felt like the screen was burning my finger just that it was unusually warm what i did to solve this was to disable every and anything that's unnecessary that's running in the background that came on my phone, disable all gesture feature as well as set the screen brightness to auto, change launchers, make sure WIFI NFC and bluetooth are disabled when not in use and if you do not use LTE on your phone disable it as well doing all of this should help to speed up ,increase battery life and hopefully make your phone cooler
I would suggest a factory reset and a day of testing after. If its still the same go for service.

Update: I have followed your suggestions and The alpha looks to be fine now. I'll bring It back to the shop if the heat happens again.
Thank you for your attention.
I already make a 6-8 time root my Alpha 850F
a test same builds from eudemony 502,with problem google.play services..google.music...google.play.store stoped working in mean time was lose root & TWRPrecovery than again flash stock 502 throuth odin,& again ...
when Oscan rom appair I flashed this Aroma rom & have no problem at all with google app & rom boot exellent
but in this rom & Oscan SGS6 rom I have very little antutu score 34000 ,i know that is with samo old scripts on my Alpha.
I make again flash via Odin stock XEF Firmware ,than root & after that TWRP
now SGS6 rom work perfect,I get 53000 antutu ,phone is cold etc 3-4 SOT
I`m very satisfied
If your phone was to hot,let him finish the update ,sync, apk play store update
dont turn off wifi or data after update phone will be cool down

Overheating issues

Hello guys,
I'm having some serious issues with overheating.
I saw that it's affecting alot also performace of device as of latery.
I have upgraded 1 week ago from android 9 EU to android 10 global.
Could it be some issue with current android where something is even working on background and making device use processor too much?
Can I somehow "tune" graphic on mine device (without rooting) ?
As I play alot of black desert mobile and it's anjoying if mine device is almost untouchable due to overheating.
Or do you think it's HW issue mainly and I should send it to repair ?
Thanks,
Martin
What did you do in the end? My Mi A3 is currently in the fridge because the temperature has gone over 20C in the UK and it's crashing continually.
That's a pity - 20C and your phone can't handle it? How does that happen???? Go to my place and the temp is constantly at 35C and I still max out everything I could in every game. No problem.
About the overheating, that's a normal thing. Through time of course the performance would go down and thus it would run hotter trying to keep up the performance. But really, chill people. If your phone is about 35C - 40C, it's just hot and to be honest, it's a normal thing hardware-wise.
If it's A LOT hotter after the update, it's due to the software. So you can flash Pie back, or use custom ROM, or just wait for another update.
I've just noticed that the July update from Google has been released recently. Fingers crossed. When I say 20C I mean ambient temperature here in the UK... the phone itself gets *way* hotter. I know phones get hot when the CPU is stressed but my phone was sat by my side here outside (in the shade) and it randomly rebooted twice whilst idle. After hard restart (press and hold power down for a few seconds) it comes back up and will work for a couple of minutes before becoming unresponsive again. As the problem seemed to get a lot worse with Android 10 and the recommendation is to go back to version 9, I'm hoping that Google/Xiaomi are able to fix it. I'm a techie working and developing stuff since 8-bit games so I'm more than happy with low-level stuff but firmware updates on phones still freak me out
