DIY: Remote control for headphones with VOL up/down and pause - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Having switched from the iphone, one of the things I miss on the Note is the ability to control pause, skip and volume using a three-button remote.
Fortunately, I found a DIY on instructables which solves this problem. Today I was able to get it working and verified that it works on the Note (i717). I also tested on a friend's skyrocket, so I believe most Samsung devices will work.
Here's how to do it:
1. Get the iLuv remote from Amazon. It's about $5
2. open the middle pod of the remote using a knife or razorblade. I just used one of my kitchen knives (carefully).
3. solder on a 600 ohm and 220 ohm 0604 resistor as shown in the picture. make sure the orientation is right (use the white printing on the circuit board as a reference). It will not work if backwards.
4. test to verify it works. On the note, the + and - buttons control the volume. The middle button will play/pause.
5. snap the plastic case back on. I held it together with some heat shrink tubing.

did you not get any accessories with your note? I got headphones with my note that do exactly this function and though they're not great headphones i'm sure would be better then 5$ headphones lol... just sayin
cool that this works however!

$5 is for the remote and works with ANY headphones.
The included headphones are poor sound quality IMHO (I tried the headphones that came with my friend's skyrocket).

I agree, I got the Samsung freebie headphones with both my captivate and infuse, and I could care less that ATT chose to not include them with the note. If somebody can buy a brand new galaxy note but not a 20 dollar pair of ear buds that sound halfway decent, something is wrong in this world. Haha.

Sorry to revive this but are their any FULLY android compatible headsets with working volume control?
I can solder but honestly would prefer not to.

Is the bluetooth Jabra BT3030 headphone good?

I have been thinking about getting the Jabra BT3030 headphones for a few weeks now. Does anyone else here have any opinions on it?
Also, does anyone know of a bluetooth headset (for example like this jabra one) that can not only switch to next/previous track but also switch to next/previous ALBUM? I don't think the Jabra BT3030 dog tag can do that. Does anyone know?
Here is a picture of it.
And here is the user manual (pdf).

Danke! I liked the "bike riding" comment.
I'm really tempted to buy it.
well, i had it and sold it.
weak bt reception, and buttons where weak also.
used it with my former TYTN II and was a little dissapointed.
the idea and design are supercool tho, sorry that it not works as it looks.

Thanks. Good to hear your opinion. What do you use now?
got it but don't use it much - i tend to have the unit beneath my shirt so it's not on display, but that means if people call they can't hear you. Maybe i should give it another proper try - definitely a potentially good thing for a bike ride tho - can keep the mobile in a saddle pocket.
I have one. The stock headphones are awful and there is an annoying buzz between tracks. On a value for money scale I would give them about 8/10 though as they are not very expensive in the bigger picture of things.
If you want something pretty tough for wearing whilst your active it is fine. If you want something to listen to high quality audio through then forget them.
And I do not know of a single Bluetooth headset that will let you skip albums. But then you can always use Microsoft Voice Command for that.
Had it for a few days, then returned it to shop. As someone else said, the headphones are terrible, but you can change em. BT worked fine, but audio-booster doesn't work with BT, so you're stuck with "standard" settings(unless someone knows of an "audio-booster"-type program that works with BT?).
I use a similar headset for my Touch HD.

I've tested about 10 models from otger brands before i've got them. Didn't found something simalar -
GREAT sound (it have integrated DSP proc), nice look, ability to connect ANY 3.5mm-jack headphones, really works as a remote (tested with CorePlayer, Pocket Music, s2p, WMPlayer).

Yeah, I'm happy with mine too. I ended up getting them a few months ago and I have no complaints. In my opinion, the sound is good - especially for the price range. The only thing that is lame is the plastic clip - it hardly holds on to anything and it seems it could break really easily. But I can live with that flaw.

You can pick up some logitech Pure-Fi mobiles from ebay they are extremely loud and have bluetooth and aux connectivity
Best on market at low price: X-Mini
http://www.amazon.com/X-Mini-Capsul...2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1311115794&sr=1-2
Got them few months ago and can´t be happier Just don't expect much bass from them, remember they're portable and cheap!!
The X-mini line also has a single speaker solution - even lower cost. Amazon carries these worldwide, or if you are in Europe you can also try pixmania.
I personally recommend this http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001UEBN42/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1311406581&sr=8-1. I own one and have a second on order. The beauty about these little beasties is the have a headphone jack and socket, meaning in theory you could plug an infinite number of these speakers together for more sound. Each has their own battery and usb charger. I paid £12 or something for mine and couldn't be happier.

Another vote for the X-Mini from me.
Awesome volume and sound from such a small device. Plus you can daisy chain them together!

I own 3 and use them daisy chained. Infact its surprisingly loud. Il tell you a good tip for them, say your in your bath room lay the speakers across the side of the bath and the bath will actually act as a big bass bin. I works really well and it makes quite a big effect on the sound. Perfect for shaving or wash time!

Opinions on Bluetooth Headphones?

Just wanted to know if anyone was using bluetooth headphones on their Rezound? Any recommendations in the $50 range? How does the DSPManager sound with them? I need something that will get me through an 8 hour work day without having to charge off and on. Thanks in advanced!
I have a pair of Motorola Bluetooth stereo headphones that work great. They are the behind the ear model. I've had them for about a year now and the battery still holds about a 10 hour charge.
I don't use the equalizer with them on this set, but on my old phone (Samsung Charge) the Bluetooth sound was not controlled by the settings for the amp
Motorola S305
I actually haven't used them with my Rezound yet, but I have a pair of the Motorola S305s as well and they worked great with my Incredible. Very durable, great sound quality, great battery life, reliable Bluetooth connection.
Best Buy's Rocketfish RF-MAB2 works great! $59.99 Also used these with my retired Incredible..

This. they are pretty awesome.
I have the Motorola SD-10HDs and they work great aswell. DSPManager works when you set the bluetooth settings. My headphones are also sweat proof.
Awesome! Thanks for the response everyone! Any thoughts on any bluetooth earbuds? I tend to find them more comfortable to listen to but I'm open to checking out the suggestions everyone made.
Gotta wait for my Rezound to come back from repair. Hopefully they're fixing my headphone output but if they don't, I'll look into bluetooth headphones as an option.
If you haven't already bought, check out the MW600 by sony. I can get a solid 6-8 out of them and they are pretty comfortable. Not to mention you can use them with any headset you want.

These are amazing headphones, I ended up breaking mine by accident and ended up getting the Jabra Halo set (also sold at Bestbuy). They are a bit more pricy but they were worth it to me. They fold up real nice and hold up a really great charge, used them for 3 days without charging, and they have some great sound quality to them, also has some cool touch-like controls on it for volume, skipping tracks and making/taking calls. Call quality is pretty nice too
I have a set of these:
I got these for a penny + shipping from Tmobile (it was on slickdeals.net it was incorrectly priced and was only up for a few hours) and I couldn't be happier. Glad I finally got rid of the cord. I can listen to music, answer phone calls, adjust volume, skip songs. Simply amazing.

JayBird- Freedom Bluetooth Earbud Headphones
Great sound for music and while talking. Extra earbuds to find the right fit. Holds about a 8-10 hr charge while using. Days on standby. Only problem is the rubber piece that covers up the usb port is hard to get opened if you have big fingers. Other than that a great pair of headphones for under $100.

Help Me Find Earphones: Cheap, Mic, Inline Control

I know I'm asking for a lot but I also want over the ear (not over the head DJ) or clip style. I read the headphone threads here in their entirety but nothing addressed my specific needs. I don't need anything fancy and to give you an idea, here's what I've been using for years now:

As you can see I'm not an audiophile when it comes to headphones. I bought my first pair of these about a dozen years ago and bought them for use under a motorcycle helmet. The look like they would be uncomfortable but surprisingly they are more comfortable under a helmet than ear buds which are smaller.
I digress.
I want something that is similar in design to these but I want an inline mic and music controls. I would like to be able to answer/end calls, play/pause music and skip forward & backwards. What I'm finding is that lots of these earphones won't control the Android phones fully. It sounds like some include free apps that will bring full functionality to the Android OS. For instance, these Philips earphones say they will do all sorts of snazzy things with the free app but the question is do these apps that manufacturers offer allow you to keep whatever music playing app you use? For instance, I use Google Music to stream all my music as my primary player so will this app work in union with this app? I would rather spend less but if these work as advertised I don't mind spending that much to get something that does what I need it to do. Here is another option for about 1/3 the price as those Philips but I don't know if they will work on the Android as it lists iPhone and Blackberry and I know some have issues.
I know someone will try to recommend more expensive headphones but if it's strictly for sound quality, I really don't care to spend more money to be honest. Look what I've been happy with for the past decade or so. Just looking for the cheapest corded headphones that meet my needs here.
Thanks!
I bought a Roman Bluetooth headphone from amazon, its $35. I thought it was cheap for what it can do and sounds !

Thanks for the heads up. I bought some Beats Tours at Best Buy today to get me through my trip I leave for in a few hours. Naturally $150 is WAY more than I planned to spend so I also ordered some knock-off Beats headphones that were around what you told me to search for. I plan to compare them side by side when they arrive and if the real headphones are 10x better I will keep them. This isn't likely but if the difference really is that big I'll keep them. So far I'm underwhelmed but haven't had too much of a chance to use them. I basically plugged them in long enough to install the free app 'Jays Headset' to configure it. Now, even though I only have the one button I have FULL controls of my phone and it appears to work flawlessly with limited testing I did. I may revisit this thread later on but for now I think I've got what I need. As I said in the OP I wanted clip style so if I decide I hate these in-ear style (possible) I will start fresh trying to find some more clip over the ear style.

What headphones setup do you use with this device?

Okay,
Much has been made about the sound quality or lack of quality speaker(s) on this device. For the folks who are running high end iems, headphones, DIY joints, Koss titanium modded drivers, Full size cans etc...
What is your personal setup for audio listening pleasure??
Also don't forget to include amps etc..

As a portable on the go setup??
Some folks are over the secondary hifi setup that is sometimes carried around.
If you can keep it to a source device, amp and iems or headphones. That's pretty much carry anywhere without it being obtrusive.
I use JVC HA-FXC80 with comply foam tips. They are cheapish but give off an amazing sound. For the price nothing can touch them. Same goes for my pc headphones HA-RX700. Inner earphones last me a year or so because I run/bike with them so I don't bother getting an over the top pair that I know aren't going to last anyways.

Price only matters when dealing with the elitist of the hobbyist, if the headphones bang then they bang... I had a pair of Koss clip on's and with the mod those things were really nice. The cost was less than $10, but they out performed on a regular basis headphones costing $50-70 easily.
Once you try custom molded iems you will never go back to regular in ear phones. I have a pair of JH16's and can't say enough about the quality or response or sound etc.... Are they expensive? Yup, are they worth it? Yup... But I also have cheapies that I love as well... Just depends on my mood... And what I am listening to...
Beats Mixr
I initially tried the original earphones guess what....threw it away. No choice but to use my Beats Mixr and so far no complaints..
Use my Atomic Floyd darts, what else?
Ultimate Ears UE18 Pro custom IEMs. Also have Sennheiser HD600 and a few others.
my bluetooth headphones xD http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR-1RBT-Premium-Bluetooth-Headphone/dp/B009A6D034
My chain looks like this:
Note 3 loaded with FLAC --> HeadAmp Pico USB DAC/amp via USB OTG --> headphones. Mostly use my T5p with it, sometimes my UE900, sometimes my LCD-2 when the mood takes me and I'm not near my desktop setup.
Well I use beat mixer..and they are working quite well...till now no problem with them...but the original Note 3 headsets sucks not far true to the expectations....
Flame away...
I love the way they sound.
I think I want a set of these for running the dog. Just so I can be the most hated man on any audiophile forum. Lol
