Let this be just discussion first...
So today was the Windows Phone 7 announcement and a lot of new devices were announced including the HTC 7 Mozart:

Pretty similar hardware and look to our Desire... I know it's early now but do you think that we will be able to port Windows Phone 7 to our Desire? Just for fun... Android is good enough.
Moved to General as not development.
Would be much more difficult since that's 100% reverse engineering 'cause Windows Phone 7 OS is not open source at all. But not impossible, though don't expect any...

Devs here have made wonders, and I think I saw a dev here running WP 7 on an HD 2....
I think we only need some sort of a bootloader... as the hardware is pretty similar it should boot and some parts should work.
I'm also more than satisfied with Android, but hey... as a geek, dual booting my smartphone does have some appeal
Seems unlikely. One of the biggest problems with pouring android to a wm phone is that some of the drivers are in the radio rom and that is closed. So a huge among of work goes into figuring out how to talk to the hardware then coding that into the linux kernel source. In the case of wp7, there will be no source code at all, just binaries. Without haret and debug information, there is no way to start other than flashing the rom and seeing whether it bricks. Maybe if haret got ported out would be a start. (maybe it already has, I didn't look at this for a while).
....speaking about Bravo clones, how about one that runs WinMo 6.5?

These clones always make me laugh a little. Why don't they just put Android on them? Lol.
I'm 100% sticking with Android but, I'd love to be able to dual boot WP7. You know, just to say I can
This would be hard work!
WP7 ist not OpenSource so creating driver etc is vey heavy!
Side note, anyone know if its going to be SIM free? Orange have the exclusive as an operator but I'm quite tempted to have a look at this...first previews are saying WP7 is VERY fast
Orange will have paid through the nose to get exclusivity of this phone so don't expect to see it sim free for at least a couple of months, they normally have either 6 weeks, 3 months or 6 months exclusive rights before going sim free.
I suppose cause the ROMs are out it could just be debranded, assuming it's not too hard to break the bootloader
given desire and mozart have very similar specs, does that mean there's a good chance android can be ported to mozart? im guessing through some kind of bootloader? anyone working on it?
Wondows 7 on htc desire
I would also love, If My HTC Desire is capable of dual boot on Windows 7 and Android. After having such a good hardware but if it does not support on software then it such hardware is of no use.

Any one found a workaround to this yet? Dual booting is lovely. For this reason, I happen to put a hand on a HD2 with WinMo 6.5 and I can boot Android on it but the phone is not mine, so now Im searching for a good HTC phone that gives me the options to play with.
Lets say the Dell Venue does come out.. as stated
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/gadgetrev...ell-venue-launching-in-korea-this-month/20811
We do get our DVP as notified....
Whats the chance you wonderful Android Chefs out there could cook up an 2.2 Android ROM based on teh Dell Venue, that would work on the Dell Venue Pro, and still let us use our keyboard.. (DLL off Motorola Charm or Droid Pro maybe..?)
Just thinking out loud..
Please lets not start this "i want android" crap! If you want an android phone why not just buy one in the first place?
Maybe because he prefers Android with a Keyboard?
You probably prefer WP7, but Since Dell is releasing the Venue pro with Android there's a good chance the DVP will be able to run it too...
It's still XDA, cooking up roms is the one reason why we're here

Epic 4G, G2, Droid Pro, rumoured Shift 4G - tons of options for android keyboard devices. No need to clutter the forum with the inevitable "WP7 is crap, android is better" BS that is in practically every other forum.
Well,
I'm with you, no need to clutter, but if you're in love with the look of the DVP but need the keyboard, that's the best option you have...
Guess making a sub-forum for this questions makes best for both worlds?
with the consensus android is a nice addition but definitely not needed. I am much happier with wp7
I ask because I LOVE the DVP form factor.. and I have three HUGE issues with WP7.
Tethering.. I HAVE to have a phone that tethers. Keeping two lines (one DVP and one my Dash3G) is BS.
Storage.. Why should I keep a thumb drive around when I have a phone with 8-32GB of storage ?
Customizing some basic things. Like not having all my pictures in the picture hub, ALL my facebook contacts in my People hub.. If I have some videos or pictures of a personal nature I would like a way to hide them from being easily seen in my hub should I want to show some less personal pictures to friends, etc..
That said, I personally am not a fan of Android.. and with my time with HD7 I found that I really like WP7 the 99% of the time I am using if for a phone, or texting, etc..
Personally I am seeing a lot of what WM7 could have been in andriod when it comes to customizations and other features. Heck looke at HTC sense on 6.5.3 and HTC sense on the EVO 4G. They arent that much different, heck if WM6.5 had added more active widgets and such, to a PRODUCTION phone it may not have been given such a bad rep. Look at the 3VO and other cooked ROMS here. A LOT of them are better than iOS or any Andriod I have used, but a lot of those features were never added to a production phone.
I digress.. when it comes to andriod.. the new Netfront UI for andriod looks awesome. There are also a ton of apps that simply arent being done for WP7 yet. So.. Long story short... I like personalizing and customizing my phone. I may get over that with WP7.. I may not. Be great if I had an option to play with a Andriod ROM on my DVP, and then go back to WP7 and so forth. Even be cooler if I had the ability to dual boot. But I doubt highly with the way WP7 deals with the SD cards that would be possible.
In any case not trying to get into a WM6 vs Andriod vs WP7 which is better conversation.. they all have thier pluses and minuses. Just curious if anyone thinks it would be possible to put andriod on a DVP should the need arise.
Or even better.. anyone try putting a WM6.5.3 ROM on a WP7 yet? I havent checked..

Would that be the one that fits in my hand perfectly.. and has a slide out portrait keyboard.. and a nice vibrant screen.. ? OR the fragile huge phone with no keyboard.
I guess I could get a new tilt2.. but it doesnt have a portait keyboard and a smaller darker screen.
The whole reason for this thread.. is the DVP is a UNIQUE form factor.. and one of the most beautiful phones I have ever owned. If they made it with WM6.5.3 it would be my first choice. But since they don't make it that way.. it would be awesome to have a Energy 6.5.3 Rom for the DVP Personally thats my favorite UI to date.

Agreed.. they are both good in thier own way.
Im starting to like WP7.. its just so different.
As I mentioned, personally I like WM6.5.3 but know I am in the minority there..
I was praying and crossing my fingers the HTC Throphy (The mock up from last year and not the WP7 phone) that would come out before WP7 launched. As that looked to be my ideal phone.
I only started this thread because if the Venue and Venue Pro ar the same hardware, I wouldn't mind trying Android on my DVP (and mybe play witht he Netfront UI and other things) and possibly switching back to WP7.
Although as I mentioned.. I would gladly pay if someone could find a way to boot the Latest WM6.x Energy Rom onto my DVP.. I would be in heaven then.
Engadget Hands-on with the Dell Venue:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/23/dell-venue-launched-in-hong-kong-we-go-hands-on/
Id pay some good money to see android on the dell venue pro. I like windows phone 7 but the OS is still a bit young.. there's certain things I like better on android and no im not trying to cause a debate or argument.. im just sayin, if the dell venue comes out, how hard would it be to make that compatible with the dvp..I love my dvp by the way, especially the slide out keyboard
It would be great if WP7 and Android can be run on Dell Venue and DVP.
Anyone try yet? Or has anyone gotten the ROM off a Dell Venue?
bump, I'd like to see this get done, and I'd pay some good money for it too!
Bump... Just wondering if anyone has rooted the Venue and figured a way to install on the DVP yet..?
I've started a Bounty on Android on the DVP here:

Can I install Android instead of WP7 in HTC 7 Mozart
and can I down grade to Windows mobile 6.5
thanks a lot
As far as I know, WP7 is an only system, which can be loaded in Mozart, now...

Why would want to run lousy OS on Mozart? Lag , lag and more lag. Especially with single core CPU. Even dual core CPU lag.
you could always try reading one of the MANY other threads asking the same question
or ask yourself why do you want a mozart if you dont want WP7
TL;DR: idiot
I want too
wp7 to android
Thats probably one of the most stupid questions I have heard this week, search the market for an Android phone that looks like the Mozart and buy it....
I would love to have android on mozart too

With current smooth UI from iOS and WP7, Android is Winmo 6.5 of the current mobile world.
Buy android phone. You like the appearance of Mozart?
buy HTC HD2 u can have wm6.5, android or WP7 on it
maybe you must go to HTC factory center then you tell them if you want to change the wp7 os to android on your mozart.. good luck...
I believe it is a matter of hardware why this will not work
I have a HTC Mozart 7. You can't downgrade to 6.5 sadly. But I hope the developers make a rom that would run 6.5 on mozart. The new android phones such as Samsung galaxy 2 is well better then Mozart but if you like a buisness phone buy a Mozart because you get great services from it such as emails and Microsoft office etc... On the other hand tho android does the same.
All am saying is you should go for HTC Mozart or a Samsung galaxy. In my opinion their both good phones.
Question
No one has actuly answered the question yet though.
Is it actuly possible, even a slight chance?
If some of the android apps were ported over I wouldn't want android on my phone, but I like most of the apps like Temple Run and Mine Craft (Minecraft is very addictive game, I have it on xbox and p.c, but only I had it on my WP7), a brilliant games on android and IOS but not on WP7
I love the smoothness of WP7 and its load of capabilities but just not the app market.
jeez, you're going to change a licensed phone into a free-licensed one? Windows phone has it's own Limited license (belongs to Microsoft) while that droid has no limited license..
---------- Post added at 04:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:16 PM ----------
okay, I will answer this to conclude all of the replies.
Answer: NO. there is no chance of you to install a droid into your hTC 7 Mozart, unless you got your own way on how to flash the rom with that droid's files and configure the files to run with the hardware properly.
*Correction for this post is strongly allowed
Everyone who likes the change, may wants to have a multi OS phone ... just like me...
I had a HD2 but on that time it had just windows 6.5 and now I have a mozart and strongly want to have many OS on my phone ...
It isn't stupid at all...
if you want you can convert cLK (open source loader) .

But apparently DFT is managing to port WP8 on HD2 :
http://twitter.com/CotullaCode
http://www.wpcentral.com/against-all-odds-windows-phone-8-has-been-hacked-htc-hd2
http://windowsphonehacker.com/articles/windows_phone_8_ported_to_the_htc_hd2-11-29-12
"Hopefully more details will be coming out soon with an actual release because as you have probably figured out, if the HD2 can run Windows Phone 8, there might be a chance for Windows Phone 7 devices too."
I guess it is right to ask ourself such a question indeed.
I don't think HD2 has something Titan doesn't have.
Surely it would be interesting to understand what DFT really has really done.
In the meanwhile I'd like to know what our beloved Titan cookers think about this.
i hope so that windows phone 8 will port to HTC titan
Don't get your hopes up. It will never happen. I wish it would. What does the HD2 have that the titan doesn't? Drivers that are more or less open sourced with a team (DFT) that specializes in them.
I don´t think, that port to Titan never be. Titan have better HW than HD2. You´ll see, port for Titan will be Now, we only waiting ...
Many phones have hardware better than the HD2, that is completely irrelevant.

Anyway, the point is the HD2 has drivers that can be worked with and a team of expert that specialize in it.
Titan has neither. Titan will not get WP8, don't get your hopes up.
I found the photo of the HD2 a bit interesting; one the build number's last few digits were blacked out and did all the zeroes escape everybody? What I find curious is the Titan I is flashable, as of this typing the Titan II is not. I own both the HD2 and Titan and the Titan runs 7.8 much better than the HD2 though I have nothing but sincere admiration for the HD2; an incredible piece of hardware despite it's lack of memory.

Do you have any proof of what you are saying ?
Well not "open sourced" but here's how it works (and all of this I have gathered from browsing XDA over the years):
In order to get android to work, someone had to either find drivers or reverse engineer something for the HD2 to get the hardware to work. This led to native ports of Ubuntu and Debian and MeeGo. Whatever was done, the previously closed drivers are now well understood enough to port it around to any linux. Then I've heard that the HD2 was a WP7 test device, and those drivers were leaked from HTC (I presume). That is the ONLY reason the HD2 has WP7. I imagine the leaked drivers aided the port to WP8.
Moreover I don't know if you follow DFT, but they have entirely rewritten and replaced the original bootloader and have added the ability to multi boot up to 32 (or some absurd number) different operating systems from multiple sources. They know the HD2 in and out.
It does not matter at all that other devices have better specs. Nearly any phone made after the HD2 has better specs. Specs are irrelevant. The HD2 is a special beast. In fact I don't think any other phone can even run android natively- all the android "ports" for other WM phones rely on HarEt, whereas the HD2 can run it natively... So afaik the HD2 is the only device that can natively run another OS.
Asking when *your* random phone is going to be able to do cool things like the phone that has *years* of community development behind it is rather self serving, a little ignorant and kind of annoying.
If you really want it to happen, put a bounty on it with a reward. Then maybe someone could work a miracle... If it were to be any Gen 2 windows phone, I suppose it would be the Radar or the Titan though, given that we have HSPL. But IMO the titan/radar are going to be left behind very quickly as the hacking scene transitions to WP8 devices.

I have to agree. I stopped flashing my smart phones for quite some time and just recently picked it up. The HD2 is that device we all wish every other device since could do. If there is to be a WP8 port, that is the device that will garner the most attention. Currently as of this typing, I have the NexusHD2 on that device. It isn't Samsung's mini-beast, the Galaxy S3 nor is it enabled with that beautiful touch screen, but the HD2 is a stud among steers. The day my HD2 is put to rest, it will be buried with honors.

Patience, patience, patience. There is rumor there is a HTC Titan III, the HTC Zenith in the pipeline. I know there are many who have this philosophy that they must get their hands on the latest and state of the art devices. I don't doubt that Windows Phone 7 should have been what we now know is Windows Phone 8. There's nothing more irritating than the inability to not run programs like Skype as they do on Android and an overall general attitude that appears contrary to customer loyalty 101. Today (as of this typing) we do not know if the SPLs on the HTC 8X, Nokia Lumia 820 and 920 and future unknown devices in the pipeline will be akin to the HTC Titan II (Radiant) which remains unlockable. It is unlikely there will never be another device like the HD2 and for me, that is what is wrong with carriers and Microsoft in regards to the devices they sell within the United States and Canada; it is internationally how different and many of us wish we had their device hardware.
I've been using the iPhone since the 3G and am ready for something new. I've been looking at the HTC One and Samsung GS4. During my reviews of the HTC One, I read that HTC was in a financial meltdown. If this is indeed true, how would this affect the support/future updates for the HTC One?
I'm not familiar with Android yet and whether one can just put the latest custom ROM onto the device and have the latest version of Android or if the manufacturer plays any key role in these updates. Please advise. Thanks.
