Considering switching to verizon, and the razr maxx - Motorola Droid RAZR

Hey all,
Im a sprint evo 4g owner, and am considering the razr maxx from verizon. Where I live here in maine, verizon has the best signal, and network reliability of all service providers.. or so I hear anyway...
On sprint, I roam prolly half the time, and anyone that has had sprint knows roaming speeds blow goat nads When I'm roaming and have full signal, I max out at 128kbps... Verizon guys I know out here get 1mbps +/- with 1-2 bars, add in the multiple dropped calls for seemingly no reason, and... I'm about done..
The evo has been a great phone, had it almost 2 years now, I rooted a lil over a year ago, and have pretty much got the full use out of it, considering its limitations from the network its on..
Guess what I wanna know from you guys is...
How is the network? Drop calls often for no reason? Data speeds pretty consistent?
How is verizons customer service? I've heard pretty horrible things about it, but never had any use myslef... I've found Sprint customer service to be great...
How is this phone in general? It has a huge battery so thats another plus... Even with my rooted evo running custom kernels/roms etc, the battery life leaves much desire... I see on verizons page that the maxx has up to 21.5 hrs talk time.. Thats about 3x what the evo was advertised for... Does it improve even more with custom roms/kernels?
Wifi hotspot and tethering.. I assume once I root, this will be easy enough, just like the evo?
Hdmi... does it work? Sprint shipped the evo with a useless hdmi out port... lol
Google voice... I will not be paying for text messaging, as I use gv for most texting now, does it play nice with the maxx? Also, how about sip calling? I have no signal at all at my house, so I use the wifi for gv, and sipgate, and just forward my calls to the gv #
I guess thats about it guys... I'm sure I'll think of more later, but I pretty much have my mind made up, unless some one points out that some of the thing I asked about simply wont work,,,
Thanks in advance

I actually just moved to a razr from Sprint last month. The speed difference is night and day. Customer service/support so far has been good. No complaints.
The network? 4g rocks. voice calls, never seem to drop. I have coverage in many places where I didn't before. Sound quality is about the same as sprint.
I have the razr, not maxx, so I can't speak to the size on it. I love the razr so far. HDMI out does work on the razr, so I'm assuming it does on the maxx as well. And yes, easy to root and do what you want to it

Motorola phones have the best signal strength of any phones, in addition to Verizon's network which is quite good.

Thanks for the replies!
4g wont matter much for me, as there is no lte in maine yet... Sprint does have wimax in select few spots here, and last year when I first tries it out, I was getting speed test result of 13mbps down, and 8mbps up, In those same places I now get get results of 1mbps op/down (I assume there is more use now), pretty weak considering thats what a good 3g speed should be... and dont even get me started on 3g speeds, or consistency... I notice huge changes while im sitting in the same place...
I never had good luck with motorola phones in the past (tho its been about 7-8 years since I've owned 1) But I hear they have come a long way, and they do hold signal better, or at least show your actual signal better...
I guess... really, I already know the network is gonna be better... cant b any worse, thats for sure... I just wanna make sure I'll be able to use the phone for the things I really need it for... ie:
Google voice - Heard mixed reviews of it with this device, some say it works fine for texting, some say not at all... are the "not at all" ppl just stupid? lol
Same with sip calling - does verizon prohibit it on their network, or block me from downloading the needed apps from the market? I know there are ways around that, but I like the idea of simplicity, which is why we own smart phones in the st place
Rooting; from what ive read, is not terribly difficult, although maybe a bit more involved than rooting my evo, so not too worried about that...
WiFi hotspot - I have no intentions of paying the $30/mo verizon wants for this service, as I hardly use it, but I need it to work when I do use it, and hell... If I'm paying for 10gb/mo of data, I'll use it however the hell I want ... This just as simple as the evo? (usually this feature is cooked into rooted roms on the evo)
Also the battery life - The only reason I'm even considering this device is the 21.5 hrs talk time, and huge 3300mah battery... So is it that great?
I guess those are the major things, the rest is prolly gonna be mostly based on opinion.

I am using the groove IP app. It is in the market. Yah Google brought it back. It let's you use voip with your Google voice. Call quality isn't too bad.
Yes the battery life is amazing. I can get 8 hours with crazy insane use and 4g on or be a tad more conservative by sticking to 3g and get 10-12 hours heavy usage. With texting over 3g with an app and browsing with juice defender I made it to 30% in 17 hours.

Wow!! that is unreal!! Even with my evo rooted, and me limiting and monitoring apps, etc... I'm lucky to get 4-5 hrs of heavy usage!!
As for the voip... I am using voice+ from play store now... Used to use gv callfree, but that was removed a while ago... call quality isnt too bad, but there is at least a 1sec delay... this could just be not enough cpu or ram causing that tho...

IMHO... wait to switch. This phone has been top of the tier list so long, it's run is bound to end soon. I advise waiting for something better, it should only be a month tops. even if if the GSIII isn't your cup of tea.

A quick look at coverage charts shows just how INSANELY more coverage you could get with verizon over sprint.
Like you, in my area Verizon has the best coverage and even amongst the verizon phones I've had (including a V3m Razr, EnVtouch and my current Razr Maxx) the Maxx is HANDS DOWN the best at reception night and day over the touch (which was one of the better reception wise), my envtouch wouldn't work till the very top of one hill on my drive to/from work and my Maxx works at the bottom of that hill in the valley several hundred feet lower (300-500 approx) and is intermittent in the valley itself, but NONE of the phones I've seen have had ANY service in that valley, and we don't even have 4G here yet.
I literally am amazed with all the places were this phone works, even at work where we have a small desktop cell repeater (single room style) my maxx works from atleast 50% further away from the repeater then my envtouch did.
It's a bit batter hungery but this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/...ndroid&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd is great for VOIP using your google voice number.
Wifi Tether is great for rooted phones to share the connection and works right out of the box without having to configure ANYTHING.
And if you download matt's DroidRAZRutility rooting is a BREEZE, literally hook up phone set it into USB debugging mode and click the choice for rooting, phone will reboot twice (IIRC) and about 5 minutes from when you started it, its done.

Ya... no samsung products for me... I had the moment from sprint... WOW... what a p.o.s. lol Then they moved me to the Cant remember what it was called, but it wasnt much better.
The other thing is... I really dont wanna wait... I dont see naything all that much better coming fro a while.. Maybe a droid whatever 1.5ghz dual core, but I dont see that being a whole lot better than a 1.2...
Idk... Anyone else think I should wait?
Dont see any great things coming from sprint any time soon, they got their heads stuck up their arses with the i-crap...

Exactly what I was hoping to hear! I dont need the next best thing... I just want something that works where/when I need it to, and having 3g everywhere I only have 1x now, is gonna be huge for me... It opens a whole new sales region for me....

I won't go to any other carrier until they offer unlimited data or at least reasonably priced tiered plans. I love paying $110 a month for unlimited for my wife and myself. It would be over $180 on Verizon.

I made the switch from the evo 3D to the RAZR and I'm one happy guy! Service here in northern Virginia is excellent compared to sprint,as well as 4g data speeds that top out at 20 something Mbs!!! No dropped calls, nothing so far! Call quality is crisp and clear. Now onto the phone....this is actually my first Motorola phone after the original RAZR ha! Build and quality wise its real good and durable, the only downside is (coming from a line of HTC phones) boot loaders are a complete ***** lol. Other than that, everything is A1 for me. I pay around $80 per month,I have the 420 or something min plan+6gb data plan + my men's wear house discount lol. Anything else you need to know, feel free to ask! This RAZR forum is one of the few that doesn't have as much trolls, haters,*****yness and empowering individual false personalities like the other forums had In short.....make the switch, you will not regret it!

that reminds me, If you've ever served in the military, bring your military ID to you local verizon and you can get something like 10-20% discount (can't remember exactly) off your monthly bill, something we just learned about when we were getting are Razr Maxx's activated.
If data and minutes bang for your buck is a major point I should also mention Straight Talk has an option now where you can take any cell that works on AT&T and put there sim card in it and have unlimted everything for 45 bucks a month, you might want to think about that if AT&T service is good enough in your area.

my wife and I both have the razr maxx and we regularly get 2 days out of the battery w/ moderate usage.. lots of texting, web use (4G for me at work).. streaming Slacker radio for 8 - 10 hrs while at work (to be fair, I cache the music to my sd card on wifi at home so I don't eat up my 4gigs)...
The battery life on the maxx is sick.

Been a long time sprint user and ROM flasher. Company moved to Verizon and I got the maxx until sgs3 drops. Great battery, development doesn't seem as active as the sprint devices were.

Just wanted to update on this...
I made the switch! And tho its only been less than 24hrs... I can already say I wont be looking back. The drive home from the verizon store was enough in itself to sell me on verizon, and this device! I get full signal 3g now, in places I either had no signal before, or a crappy roaming signal that was no reliable. I was actually able to stream pandora in my garage for a full 3 hrs!! My sprint evo wouldnt have even made thru one song... Aside from the unreal battery life (took off charger at 5pm yesterday, and still at 80%) the device dosent really seem any better than my evo was, but the difference in the network is night and day!
Anyway... thanks a lot guys! And once I get used to this phone, I will be in here looking to root it, and get rid of all this verizon bloat...

This was my big concern... I only get 5gb/mo... But... I never used more than 4 w sprint (mostly cuz their network is slow slow its almost impossible). so I will be keeping an eye on the data usage. From what the customer service rep said... verizon is changing their data rate plans, and tho no one really knows what they are changing, its pretty safe to say, they will be offering more data for the $... (I hope), and I will just change my data plan next month...

I have a Motorola photon from sprint which is almost the same as the razor. I'll say this about Motorola.... awesome phones right out of the box. Change the launcher to go launcher of launcher pro and the speed difference of the phone is night and day. Motorola does not want you unlocking the boot loader and running custom roms and to be honest there isn't any need to.
Root the phone through adb method and apply the water drop mod and download nebtop so you can use web top without a dock. I bought a $30 Bluetooth keyboard off amazon... its pretty nice when travel sling on the bike or just surfing the web in bed on the flat screen.
PS Google just bought Motorola so hopefully the development side of Motorola phones picks up soon.

[Q] Question about Wimax/Lte

I got the Motorola Photon last week because it was only $99 dollars which is an amazing price for this amazing phone. I was going to get the LG Marquee because it was a 3G only device I believe and last time I got a droid from sprint they had the $10 dollar surcharge for premium data only for 4G capable device, regardless of the fact that there is no 4G in my area. Needless to say I read recently that Sprint is going to be shutting down or re-purposing their Wimax towers and moving to LTE, I think this is a great idea, but my question is, will my Photon be able to use LTE when it is available or will I have to get a new phone when they switch to LTE? Compared to Verizon, the data connection is a joke. Its very slow, luckily when Im at school they have wireless N wifi, and at home I have wifi. I would like to eventually not have to use wifi and be able to do stuff as simple as searching the market without having to wait 5-10 seconds for a page to come up. I used that 3G supercharger, and it is better then it was, but randomly drops the connection and goes to roaming now, that doesn't really matter though. Another comment I have on the Photon, is the phenomenal battery life. I didn't update my phone with the leaked software that was suppose to fix some battery issues, but I don't have any. I easily go 14 hours a day using it as an mp3 player, etc, and usually have around 60% battery power left then it takes like less then an hour to fully charge. Call quality and reception is about a million times better then my Samsung transform. Motorola has made me a believer in good phones. I'll never purchase another Samsung cell phone again, that's for sure. The only thing that could make this phone better would be LTE.
Welcome to the club. There's several threads on LTE, so check those out but there's no conclusive answer that I've seen. Battery life and reception are great with this phone so if you ever do have a problem, look for a rogue app.
Lol The club. I like that. Anywho I was looking around in the mophos build.prop file and it actually said some stuff about LTE, thats pretty cool. Maybe this phone is already prepared to switch to LTE in a future system update.
I think(read: I'm uncertain if)the Photon has the necessary 800mhz radio in it for sprints future rollouts(rev. a, rev. b, 1xAdvanced or whatever is gonna use it).
I'm actually trying to determine this as well, for certain, since this phone has amazing radios in it as far as the reception is concerned. I dont care too much about the LTE radio but I'd like to be able to use the revised 3G band. I've been thinking of getting the Photon and moving away from my Nexus S 4G only because of what I've heard about its ability to pull down a signal.
HSPA+ is the minimum foundation for LTE so if sprint layered their network the Photon would work fine because that is the Gsm Transceiver it has.
Thats what I was thinking! Sprint just needs to HTFU and cut out wimax and give us the better LTE network. Lol I bet all the new samsung phones will be **** out of luck though! That will be hilarious when the new GSII's are useless! Samsung blows

Issue has come back so I went to the FCC and BBB.

Update: I just pulled this "there actually HAS been 4g throttling cases. if you use a **** ton of data on an unlimited plan they will throttle you. a guy on rootzwiki i think the galaxy nexus forums, had data throttling on 4g and the customer service lady said it was because he was in the top 5% of users :/" (Link:http://rootzwiki.com/topic/14945-yes-verizon-does-throttle-4g/page__st__50)
Eat it haters
Update2: This a vs video. Verizon throttled 4G vs verizon not throttled 4G. Eat that. If you guys want, I will go back and ask to swap sims with one of the phones on the foor. (I don't think they would let me make a video of it)
Link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCbvDEewcJU
I fixed no more 600kbs. Oh yea
Update3: It has come back, so now I went to the FCC and the BBB.
Based on the Hotspot app, your signal, and your battery status all going completely crazy in this video I'd guess your phone needs to be wiped or replaced. Throttling is generally making the internet slower, not making your phone act crazy.
That was the first phone in that video. I will upload videos with the new phone soon and they are not like that. That phone was wiped and it still did it. replacement still some times gives me 600kbs with data droping on 4G. I think I am being throttled, but can't poof it yet.
Every rep I talk to about this seems to know more than they are letting on, when I ask about throttling. It's all ways to the book, like some one is doing flash cards they HAVE TO READ and THEN TELL ME WHAT THEY SAY.
It really piss's me off, they can't just come out with it so I know what the limit is.

....SIGH
No, this is NOT throttling. Verizon is VERY clear and up front on how they deal with high data usage. They will reduce your data speed but only in areas of congestion and only while the congestion is occurring.
BUT- are you saying you used 12gb of data in one billing period? REALLY?
12 gb of data on 4g is not that much... I have unlimited plan as well.
My ISP was being bad to me, so Netflix and youtube did most of that. The videos are of the first phone. I will try and upload videos of the 2nd phone later today.
That's definitely not throttling. That's the phone dropping connection. Things would be a lot more stable if you weren't tethering while using 1080p video, I'll bet you the phone is getting really hot and trying to drop 4G so it can cool down. Are you on the newest OTA update?
In that video that may be the case, but I have some videos I am about to upload that have nothing to do with 1080p video or tethering.
The odd thing is 3G acts a lot better than this. It was slow, but it held. 4G is like 11mbs to 100kbs. It sucks so much that I use my S2 most of the time and have used 8.9GB in 6 days. (Thats what the ICS data use app says. I don't know how much AT&T thinks I have used.)
A new set of videos is going up now.
I know I've said this before and I'll say it again, this is NOT throttling. If it was throttling, you would keep 4G but it would be extremely slow download speeds. The videos look like you might have an issue with the 4G radio. Get the phone replaced, be nice about it and make sure the rep knows that it's your third phone. Make sure they give you a brand new SIM card as well.
Thay would not give me a new phone. They put a low proity ticket in and said to call back on 4/11/2012. I think they are BSing me.
Edit: I used my s2 to send this miss typed post. Lol
Verizon 4g should read: up to 10x slower than AT&T's 3g. I meen that for real, 600kbs vs 6000kbs.
BS. I use up to 90 to 100 gb's some months and others I only use 10 gb's or so and my speeds never slow. That is not throttling and I'm pretty sure VZW hasn't figured out how to throttle LTE/4G yet.
Now the throttling on congested networks makes sense and I am in the city of Chicago which I assume Verizon isn't too congested being that almost all my friends are on Sprint and AT&T.

You're trippin...
Ive got unlim data with VZ and have NEVER gotten throttled.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1476109
Ive used up to 102 GB in a single billing cycle and all was well. I use 20-30 in a normal month.
Currently im 9 days into my billing cycle and have used 15.688GB.
I regulary hit 30-40 Mbps down and 10-20 Mbps down
^ Mirrors my results.
I am about to upload a new video to proof me right. I just went into a verizon store and did a VS. I went into a AT&T store too, but did not do a VS video in there. The AT&T LTE would have killed my speeds x50. Yes AT&T and verizon have LTE were I live.
I've had my phone for 5 months and haven't even used 4g because its still not available where I live. I'm extremely happy when I even get 1mb/s download.

So what are you saying I should do? Throttling or not, the point is I am having a issue with my data connetion. If you think it's fine, good for you then.
I don't know what else it could be. I asked a rep in the store if he would give me a new sim card, but he would not do it and told me to call tech and then I said screw it. I reported that jerk.( No I did not, but now I wish I did.)
Over all I have to say this sucks and the guy in the AT&T store said "yea that must suck". I showed them how much data I used and he said they must throttle quick.
Verizon 4G LTE 2/10. 1 point for working half way and 1 for the upload works right most of the time.
Going by a lot of threads you start you like to complain.....and I'm guessing that's how you act in every day life away from the internet, hence why you're getting nowhere with VZW. I think you have a lemon of a phone/razr. I don't believe it has anything to do with VZW's network.
I have been very nice with the reps and under stand it's not them doing this to me. To think I act this way or that in "real life" is a big jump.
Edit: I have been playing this like a chess game, looking for the longer term play. I have a "plan" and I think the phone coming out on the 12th will play a nice roll into this. I wanted to have so much proof my phone is craped up they would give me a new one on the spot. The last time I did not have all this "proof" I had to call TW cable over and over. ( I was geting sup 1mbs out of it.) When they came out, they were like I don't get it. I was like I am paying for 10/1 and you are giving me 1/1. When he did the "speedtest" it read 7mbs. And I was like it was slow before. So he left. And bam 1mbs by the way. That took forever to fix.
So do you see why I am doing this? If no, good for you then.
I think Verizon is a "lemon".
I dont understand half of what you're trying to say.

RAZR dropping data

I just got off the phone with vzw about my RAZR dropping data randomly. If your having this problem just download the restore connectivity app. And the tech support guy said that ics is supposed to be released in a couple of weeks but I have my salt ready.

didnt want to start a new thread, but my phone after the latest update keeps dropping data and im fed up with it. this is the third razr ive had. one for hardware, one for a couple areas of dead pixels or groups of pixels, now my phone wont stay connected to data, just randomly dropping data and then picking it back up. ive had to call customer support three times for it, this time i had to boot it into safe mode, and now get to play the waiting game. ive heard people on here rave about the motorola antennas, but ive yet to be impressed. As far as i can tell thisphone is a complete peace of crap. And verizon support hasnt done anything to fix it. I used to rave about verizons technical support, now it feels like they dont care. After my contract is up bye bye verizon. Bye bye motorola. I would cancel right now and just use my vita with skype as a phone, but i got apps i would miss. Ive had palm pres that have had way better hardware design and build quality then this piece of ****.
I've had four LTE phones now and the data issues existed on all of them but have gotten less noticeable with each passing month (the Droid Charge was a nightmare until the day I got rid of it, though). People treating it as a phone issue cost warranty support money and wastes time- what you need is a network technician, not a refurbished phone.

At this point i need a new phone. Ive installed the useless restore connectivity app, tried removing and reinstalling my sim card, and now im running it in safe mode, all verizon ideas from customer support, and except for safe mode cuz ive not had the time, have failed. Im running bone stock non root and cant get anywhere with technicians. As ive said, my phone drops data and then a minute later picks it back up. The latest customer support person thought itmight be a roamong issue, evn though it happens when im not moving, as far as i can tell.
First, what's your signal strength? Anything under ~-95dBm isn't enough to maintain a reliable LTE connection. It'll connect but it will occasionally lose it. This tends to waste battery, as well. When they started rolling out LTE I was on the fringe of the coverage area, but they've updated a few of their towers since then. I will still lose data when driving through certain parts of town, but it reconnects quickly.
As far as the roaming issues go, that's a simple one to rule out. Call back and ask what your PRL should be. If it doesn't match the one in your About screen in Settings, turn the phone off, pull the SIM, power on, and shut down and put it back in- it should update. Doesn't make much of a difference in most circumstances, and the phone is supposed to update it automatically on every boot, but it's worth a try.
If you really just want a replacement phone without any more tech support BS, tell them the phone is overheating and rebooting. They'll tell you to take it into the store, where they will check for water damage and then order you a new phone without any further questions. You could also request to be transferred to Tier 2-- they're the ones that know what they're talking about (generally).
Also, if you have the same issue with 3 different phones, it's policy to offer you a switch to a different model (or an early upgrade, depending on what your contract dates look like) under most circumstances. I will tell you that whatever issues you've been having, if you want a 4G phone, there is no better current combination than Motorola and Verizon. I've seen the alternatives and they're not pretty.
its at 85 in my living room with three bars of data. If it was low coverage it should; especially after the last update; be almost no bars at all and just dropdown to 3g service instead of dropping all data.

I have seldom found that to be true, strangely. Mine will try re-authenticating on 4G two or three times before deciding 3G is better- then it will still toggle back and forth, and every time it switches from 4G to 3G it loses connection for a few seconds. It's an issue with the network architecture more than anything else- eHRPD is a stopgap solution and hopefully will be phased out soon, as LTE becomes universal and LTE-Advanced enters the picture.
oh ok.
You guys are all lucky, I don't even have 4g where I live.

I can honestly say if they hadn't enticed me with faster datas I would still be using a Droid Incredible. The RAZR is fine-- the 3 other phones I had to go through to get one that worked (and realize it was probably the network all along) weren't worth the pain, though.

same here. If i could activate a pallm pre 3 on verizon id be using that right now. But asit stands, the data speeds are nice, but arent worth it compared to constantly loosing data or all the network troubles verizons had activating there network. Though those are probably from there blazingly fast rollout rather then hardware on there end.

my second had two dead pixels this one has one but during normal opperation isnt noticable. though im ready to try and trade this for a galaxy nexus or cancel my contrqct and buy one straight from google. the main reason i bought this phone over the gnex was the sd card and thinking that it would be upgraded to ics rather quickly. fhe screen resolution and size are non issues for me. at this point there really isnt a lot to distinguish the screens unless you are a real power user, most wouldnt know that the razr has a lower pixel count and density.

how is the photon as a phone?

Newbee to this section and photon in general. My son has an epic touch 4g and is very much unhappy with dropped calls, texts that arrive hours later, things that pertain to the phones ability to make calls etc. I have heard that the photon is very good as a phone, maybe it has a stronger antenna or something? I myself have an evo 3d and it's not the greatest as far as phone calls either. To me all of these devices are pretty close spec wise (dual core, good graphics, etc) so i was thinking about trying to trade one of the phones for a photon. Do you think i would notice an improvement in call quality? If i do trade should i look for a phone that has not been updated past a certain point (for rooting purposes)? thank you for your time.

would definitely notice a difference, p photon been a great phone best I've ever owned....yeah try to get on thats on 2.3.4.... if your planning on unlocking, I think root can be done either way but if you want to unlock the bootloader need the older version, granted I have no idea if the newest photons on the shelves have been updated though so might be worrying for nothing, but best to play it safe ya know

my father in law just upgraded to the photon and loves it. It came with 2.3.4 from Best Buy and I had no problems rooting and unlocking out last night.
The photon has been the best phone I've had also. Compared to my wife's Epic and some friends Evos it gets signal and doesn't drop calls like there's do.

+1....Compared to E4G and ogEVO the Photon is miles above them for signal strength and overall "phone function" usage.
The photon definitely has a better radio than other phone I've seen. I have friends on sprint who will barely hold 1-2 bars of signal while my photon has a solid 4. I've never had a single dropped call and only had late texts one time, and a simple reboot fixed it.

i agree to all. High quality radios in the Photon that will provide you with great communications. For smartdevices, its up there but not 1st. for a phone where communication is key, it is untouchable. you will be impressed by the call quality if you buy one.

As a phone, it gets some weird popping sounds sometimes, like a short in the speaker. Makes me think the other person hung up.
There was an audio routing issue at launch that has since been fixed and not the MoPho is superior in many ways. CDMA is reliable so far as retaining calls, dropped calls are typically a network issue, that said the issues you've seen with other phones dropping calls are probably device specific and should be regarded as such. Unless you're talking about a device sounding "tinny" or garbled or echoes ect. call quality is usually network related.
Photon owns. Best phone I've ever had. Out of box, Modded, whatever. MoPho.
As a phone the Motorola Photon 4G is the best phone on Sprint. Motorola is known to make great wireless radios. You will get better signal with the Photon than any other phone on Sprint.
So if you're a person that actually counts on getting all your calls, text, and voicemails on time, currently the Photon is your best option on Sprint. I use to have the Epic Touch, great device in all aspects except for being a phone.
Sprint is the worst major carrier in the U.S. in my opinion. I've been with all 4 majors. The only thing good about Sprint is unlimited plans. Their prices aren't too far off other carries. You may save a few bucks but it's not major. Just good plans. I changed to Verizon. You pay more but I get signal everywhere and I'm a person that relies on phone calls.

Need Input: Possibly Switching To Sprint

Hi, I have a couple questions. I currently am with US Cellular with an Electrify. I was thinking of switching to Sprint, but was wondering how cell service is, Internet Speed, just overall view and experience with Sprint. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks
Service is damn good. Internet speed where i live, not so much. Im lucky to get over 200kbs on 3g but i mean, everything loads just fine. The only time you notice is when you are literally downloading something. Other than that, ive been with sprint for 6 years now and im satisfied. Ive never had any real issues. Having never had us cellular though im not sure how to compare the two.

Talk to people in your area and see what their service and speeds are like. In my area I'm averaging 170kbps on 3G for the past year. This is slower than what I got ten years ago on Sprint using a flip phone and 230k hack. Other than that, voice service is good.
The only reason I'm still on Sprint is cost vs data usage. If a GSM carrier offered the same amount of data at the same cost I'd drop Sprint in a heartbeat.

That's like here which is not much better than 1xRTT.
I would what for LTE phones and service in your area, before signing a 2year contract.

Thanks for the input
sprint is awesome
I have been with sprint for a year now n never had any problems. I love the photon. In my area(Kansas city) I get around 2mbps on 3g, never used my phone on 4g yet so not sure boot those speeds. I don't get 4g at my house. But I would definitely recommend joining sprint. I love the unlimited data on my rooted photon. I use close to 60gb of data per month. U can't do that with anyother company.
Like mention before check for feedback with people in your area, Im also one of the unlucky ones to get bad 3g about 180kps when Im lucky. However I talked on the phone for hours with sprint yesterday and I can tell you theyre great at customer service and one of the guys that I spoke to confimed that sprint is updating alot of their towers across the US including many around my area. Hopefully yours is already good.
I love sprint i get 1-2 mbps everywhere i go and always hae service when no one does ALWAYS I LOVE IT

I have been with Sprint for over 10 years now, while I am satisfied with the service in general, I wouldn't I say I am happy.
The reason is, their prices....yes their prices. They charge $70 a month for unlimited everything. Fine! It is a great deal compared to the other carriers.
However, their speeds suck, really suck. Some users are lucky enough to be near a good coverage site, but I regularly get between 50Kbps & 250Kbps.
Plus they have the BS $10 charge for Premium Data....what Premium Data? Heck, I can't even get normal data where I live & work. I get stuck sending messages using GVoice, market won't open up. If I switch to WiFi everything will work just fine.
Anyway, the reason I stuck with Sprint was they offered me a huge monthly discount on my bill to move to a smartphone (in Dec. 2010). Plus, their LTE network should be up in 2013 and they are decommissioning their IDEN network and re-purposing the spectrum for LTE (or so I've read).
Their unlimited everything plan is great for people who really use a lot of data and have good coverage. For people like me, who barely use 200MB/month its a waste, if I leave data sync on 24/7 I might push 750MB....that's it. If they had tiered data plans, I would switch to that in an instant.
In any case, if you are happy at US Cellular, there is no need to switch. Wait and see how all of this plays out.
Also, call them and ask for incentives to switch over to them. First month free, 20%-25% off etc. You may not get it the first time but call every few weeks and see if you get lucky, especially near the end of the year.
Good Luck!
I get about 2mbits down and 1 up. Best network speeds around my area. Uscc is just a tiny bit slower than that in the same area.

I have been with sprint for at least 6 years, maybe more. Don't really remember when I first signed up with them. I have not really had much problems with them. Their customer service has only gotten better since I first signed up, however I liked their old phone upgrade plan better than this new one.
I don't get 4g at my house, but that doesn't bother me much because 3g works pretty well, and I almost always have wifi available.
