HTC AMAZE Keeps shutting down - HTC Amaze 4G

Every day my HTC AMAZE 4g keeps shutting down multiple times a day, is there a fix or should I request another one from T-Mobile?
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using XDA

I'm having the same issue. 4-5 times a day it'll just shut down and then take it's sweet time rebooting. Im rooted running stock 2.3.4 trying to upgrade to ICS which kind of tumbles into another issue. I'm trying to do the update to ICS via the OTA update and when it powers down it just boots into the Bootloader screen. My status for my bootloader shows <RELOCKED> followed by <SECURITY WARNING>.
If anyone could shed a little insight that'd be aces.

The random reboot issue seems to be battery related from what others have stated.

Why don't you update to ics manually? And as above has stated contact HTC tell them you have defective battery.

I can confirm this. I called t-mo and they basically told me that I'm SOL on a battery replacement. So, I got the Anker 2 pack on Amazon for 30 bucks, and I haven't had a reboot since.

Had the same issue. Called HTC tech support bypassing T-Mobile since I use a different carrier. HTC sent me a replacement battery.

I guess I should call HTC as well. I thought about calling them, but the Anker has a big better so I didn't mind plopping down 30 for 2 batteries.

Mine shuts down also. Then when it boots back up it has 20% less battery -.- isn't that annoyin ? Lol

you have a faulty battery.
this sounds like a recall-type of deal here. i'm having the same issues with my oem battery. called htc the other day, and they wanted my cc info to replace the battery. i'd still have to pay for shipping the old one back to them. will try calling again, and see if i can get one for free lol

same thing with mine. went through 2 amaze 4g's and 5 batteries in 2 months. I end up buying a new battery once every 2 weeks.
One thing i know that WILL kill my battery is if i plug it into the outlet on an amtrak train. Every time i exit the train, its dead. Learned that the hard way.
I also keep the rubber case that came with it off. It happens less and less that way. I think it's overheating, since it was very hot out each time.

Hello guys,
I've also about the same problem, My Amaze is Asian version with JuopunutBear S-OFF and ICS Speed Rom installed.
The problem with my phone is that while its charging or in use, it doesn't shut down, but when idle for some time with no music application running in background, it shut down.
then it doesn't turn on unless you pull the battery for a while and re insert it,
Can anyone plz tell me what's the issue, is it battery or some culprit application?
Thanks

I had the same issue on my phone. It was due to the kernel issue .I flashed super wipe once & flashed backup again . Now my battery is ok & I found no rendom shutdowns anymore . try this if it helps you.
Using stock rom 4.0.3 s-off Rooted.

which kernal you're using now??

I used to had the same issue. Tried updating Android using stock, changing the ROM to a custom one (CM, Energizer, etc.), changing the kernel. nothing seemed to help. In the meantime, I bought a battery from eBay. Took about 3,5 to 4 months to arrive (yeah, **** me, I'm from Argentina). I put it on and VOILĂ€. Holy solution.
It is an Anker one, so it has more capacity also

I m using faux kernel v. 31

N yes i dont have any battery related issues. See attached photo.

take the battery out and put it back in. Without turning on the device charge for 4 hours.
Turn on the device but let charge for another hour. This seems to have worked for me.

I have the same problem! But I have it just when I am calling,is it the battery trouble?Or the kernel I am using?I am using faux123 v31

Need a bit more info please...
What rom/kernel...baseband, and carrier..
Also, are you charging with the phone in use, or is it turned off...
Also, are you overclocked, overvolted ??
and are you using the stock charger and cable ??
thanks in advance....g

A bit slower than normal, but if coming to this rom fresh, it needs a few days to "settle"...
My math shows this:
89% - end charge
minus
46 %- start charge
= 43% charge
divided by 6 hours, = 7.16 % per hour.
Better than my build gets right now....with a stock battery...(using CM9 stable today).....
Watch it for a few more days and monitor the charge rate. I'm not ruling out a problem with battery either, but considering the fact that your last build was better, the battery should be fine.
But honestly, once the stats get built and the rom settles in, you will likely see an increase in charging rate, and a decrease in discharge time.
The symptoms your having are not uncommon after flashing a new build.
Also, have you verified your wireless connections ?..I.E.is the device attempting to access wifi, or roam on wireless bands ?
Often times this causes rapid battery drain....
Thats my .02 at the moment brother......g
And I appreciate that!! I don't use WiFi. And most of the time I'm just on 4g. Always have good 4g connection at home. With nothing running background. I'll give it a few days though and see what happens!! Thanks broth a!!

Very possible ....
I always wipe the EMMC partition after a new rom ....
Without having the device in hand, it's impossible to say what the cause may be.

Here is a solution: Get a new ROM because the ROM you have installed is over clocked too much so the voltage the phone gets from the battery is almost equivalent to the voltage of your charger. The charger has a voltage of 5, which means the phone has a voltage of now 4.7V

Shutting down with 10% battery left?

On ICS my phone would alert me of low battery at 14%, then at 9% and at 5% would go red and alert me again. Now, on JB it alerts me at 14% but just shuts off at 10%. Has happened to me three times now, so I've gotten to where I charge once it hits 11% (if I'm at home). But That's shortening my battery life some and if I'm out and about is an inconvenience. I'm 100% stock. Anyone else having this issue since the JB update and is there a way to fix it (without rooting my phone)?

Could be battery polling not correctly updating. Once in awhile I'll see 20%, reboot and it will say 8%. Battery may be damaged if the stats aren't correct.

I've had similar issues dating back to the original EVO. Found this page that fixed my problems then thanks Swagstr. I started having the same issues on the new Evo. This processes helped as well. If you're getting shutdowns/ reboots at 20% it'll take a while for this process to get "topped off". Once i do this, my phone will work until it's been at 1% for 10-15 minutes. Then the batter will show completely red with diagonal lines through it for a minute or two before shutting down.
http://www.pocketables.com/2010/08/how-to-calibrate-htc-evo-battery-and-possibly-double-your-battery-life.html
Here's a variation of these instructions:
Turn the EVO on and charge it until the LED indicator turns green.
Unplug it and turn it off.
Plug it back in and charge until the LED indicator turns green.
Unplug it and turn it on.
Once powered on completely, turn it off again.
Plug it back in and charge until the LED turns green.
Unplug it, turn it on, and use it normally.

Basically repeatedly do this until plugging it in when off turns the LED green almost immediately.

Battery is awful after Elegancia ROM 5.2

Hello fellow members,
I'm having a slight problem here with my battery after flashing the new Elegancia ROM for ATT. I dont know what is causing this because I flashed the kernal too. I don't know if I flashed the kernal right. Can anyone confirm the kernal version for the ROM so i can match it with mine? But anyway, I saw people reporting 50+ percent while using it for hours. Mine is below 50 using it to browse the web for 30 min. Anyone?

Lol, really? You tell me you have 100% battery, use internet for 30min, then have 50% battery? If that holds any truth then I'd flash the stock Rom ruu and exchange device for another ASAP! That's called a bunk device, nothing to do with the Rom u flashed which in also using and getting amazing battery life on ATT.
If you're exaggerating here, try flashing the Rom again WITH wipe in aroma and see how it goes. Flashing the kernal provided by Steve is idiot proof, literally so I'm sure you flashed it just fine. If in doubt on this, simple:
1. Boot device into usb fastboot
2. Extract on computer and run the program to flash the kernal, see prompts on computer and should say successful or something to that effect basically showing it did something. Now reboot device and done. Simple

Okay I was exaggerating there. But I don't see how people are getting amazing battery life with that ROM and I'm here browsing XDA for 10 min and my battery goes down 10%

It is normal, that battery drains faster when actively using your phone. Also using 3G/HSPA Internet connection needs more power than WiFi. IS your phone getting hot/warm when using it like you said?
Other things you can try:
- Enable CPU Power Saver
- Turn off WiFi when not connected
- Try reducing your display brightness
- Look at your syncs, what apps do you really need to sync and how often?
- See if there are any apps abusing your cpu in the background.
I have the same issue.. battery drops pretty fast.. and i did flash the right kernel

My WiFi is always off when I'm not using it. Battery saver seems so power friendly, I'm afraid I won't get performance when I need it. And I have my screen brightness on half. Lastly, I have my apps on manual sync so they don't really sync unless I open the app. And I always kill my apps when I'm done using them

[Q]I think my DNA is dead...

I had my phone today and everything seemed to be running fine but I happened to let it die completely while in my pocket. I went to plug it in and no LED, no charging, no nothing. When I put it on my wireless charger, the charger's green light says it is charging but my phone doesn't seem to respond to anything. I tried holding down Power+volume up+volume down and still nothing. Before it happened i was running official CM10.2 and the crpalmer kernel and everything seemed great. What do ya'll think?

Battery pull
When that happens, the battery usually has to be pulled for it to turn back on. The problem is, the DNA doesn't have a removable, or even easily accessible battery. This same problem happened to me a while back, and the remedy was to pry off the back cover, unscrew the metal plate holding the battery connector to the board, and unplug the connector for about 10 or 15 seconds before reconnecting it. After that, charging LED came on like normal and the phone booted up just fine. It's only happened twice in the last 3 months, and it works every time.
Lesson learned - don't let the battery die!
