[SHARE] Basic guide to theming android [SHARE] - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have seen many people asking about guides on how to theme frameworks and stuff on android. I searched in google and found a decent guide that will help those who want to get into theming. I didnt create this guide, i just found it and shared it with you. I also dont think that i violate any rules that prohibit sharing from external webpages. Enjoy

Just wondering, is there anyway to modify the androidmanifest.xml in system apps?
Thanks

[Q] theming question

so i'm trying to learn how to theme but i can only really get a hang of theming stuff like the framework-res.apk and easy stuff like that. some of the apps (like the calculator and what-not) have their stuff all in a xml file. how the heck do it edit that? i'm on a mac fyi..... i'm used to just replacing .png files. this seems to be a bit more complicated than i may be able to even do. any help would be much appreciated. thanks!
Miui theme developers are very helpful u might wana try posting there.

Your searching abilities must be inferior.
Search for cm7 themes in the Android Market, and you should find an app called Theme Chooser Themes by JRummy16.
It has a compilation of all themes ever posted to the xda forums (and even beyond) and its catalogue is frequently updated.
Or, you know, you could just... make one for yourself instead of demanding from people?
This post was sent from hell.
yea man i understand
i have ics so i have theme chooser
and i will make one but i have exams for now
so i cant for now
but i will later
i know it is weird thing to ask but for now i am lazy

Android App UI

I've been coding for Android for awhile now, but just with a basic UI. I'm coding an app for a friend in which I simply retrieve his tweets, and Facebook statuses, and I wanted to have a sleek UI for it. I know that since every phone runs ICS, which means they won't get the Holo theme(<3). I wanted to know if anyone could lead me in the right direction, or even help me code the app. Are there templates that I can use, or what? lol. Thanks!

hi.
could you please post it here? i am also looking for some nice ui component.
thanks a lot!
My best advise would be not to follow what most app developers do. Use the built in framework for most of your layout needs. You program will run faster and you will get a better over all UI no matter what version they are using. To many people fill their apps with color coding and images that are not needed. You an jack right into the base framework files for most of what you will need

The top self-service mods for sgy/sgp

I am providing a word document containing the top easiest self service mods for SGY discovered by me and not at all copied,,
I Have myself dug into xml and matched pngs to make this so dont you dare accuse me of cheating
--->These are simple since they require only xml and png editing (no SMALI)
--->Self service since they require some work common sense and apk compile/decompiling tools and not flashable zips
--->Fun since they totally revamp the hell of SGY
--->I am not new to modding but new to xda so i cant provide a dropbox link,, so i attached the file,,,
--->PRESS THANKS IF YOU LIKED IT AND HELP ME RISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The ss are in the word document itself,,
i will update this doc with more as i learn to make more mods easily ,,,, i have many more,,, do see and wait ,, ask as many questions as you can
just read it,
i have made some guides on these mods before but yours is an entirely different method,
i'd suggest rather than attatching a docx file,
just make a thread for this,
so people could appreciate your work more,
i find it helpful and very useful when it comes to xml parcing,
have a thanks too,
you deserve it
Nice share

[Q] How do I theme Google Keyboard?

I am keen to be themer and was wondering how do I theme a keyboard for a start.
Here, Shaftamle had themed the Google Keyboard in various forms and I thought I would like to attempt to do up some themes too.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387785
Can any kind soul advise me on how to start? Thanks!! :fingers-crossed:
Well what I would suggest for a start is downloading those files and then examining them.
I think it isnt as simple as replacing gfx, methinks you will need to compile it or something.
Please update this post as you find more out! Thanks!
