nobody who could help here?

Should work no problem. I wrote a couple tags and my buddy was able to read them on his locked GNex. Unless I totally misunderstood what your asking

Just 4.0.2 and earlier. I believe 4.0.4 is all gravy!

thx man, hmm... now that's weird, i'm on 4.0.4 (the omega rom) and with the S3 there is no chance to read a tag if the device is locked
can somebody confirm this? maybe i should consider a full wipe then

Well I'm unlocked so I can't confirm that its a lock issue It very well could be but I have no idea how that works. .. full wipes don't hurt. Just sucks setting everything up again is all.

I think op means when the screen lock is on.. Not rooting or sim locked
The phone wont read a tag until the phone is turned on and screen unlocked
I guess its to save power

Do you maybe have a lock pattern or something similar enabled, would make sense to me if it doesn't work with such a feature activated.
Because with the swype to unlock you are i.e. also able to pull notifications down while the screen is locked, with a security lock activated you aren't.

In my case I just have the swipe to unlock
But until unlocked you can not scan nfc

Thx guys for all your answers.
Of course the problem is the locked screen and not any sim lock.
I understand that it does kinda make sense not to accept NFC connections as long as the phone is locked. However, personally I would still prefer to use NFC also if the phone is locked (as it was possible before) - and i think I'm not alone with this.
Looks like you have to play around with your rom to get it working again - the sad part is, I have no clue where to start (well, actually I have no clue at all).

one more doubt with NFC unlock
I've one doubt regarding NFC screen unlock.. I'm worried that I'm giving more pressure to my Nexus S power button . Suppose if I can have a NFC tag which will simply light up the screen when placed on it, On my screen I can have pattern lock /password lock.. so it will be secured, I just want to bypass pressing Power button all the time to check what is happening inside my mobile ( with out rooting and key remap )

I understand why NFC is disabled when locked from a security perspective, especially with things like Google Wallet - someone could buy things with your phone without knowing the PIN.
However I am not using NFC payments and would really like to have the ability to switch profiles by NFC tags. The problem is the convenience of this is somewhat reduced by having to unlock the phone. If it could just be enabled when the screen is on that would not be so bad on the battery.
I know a few months back Paul O'Brien was talking about looking at a hack for this, I don't think he has yet (or will ever have the time). It is not on the new GNex MoDaCo kitchen (IR14). N.B. I did have a GNex before swapping for the wife's new S3

Take a look at the development section, there is already a solution for rooted phones.

true, the solution is only a few days old - but this was just an information for TwoGunTurtle and all the others in this thread, who have not yet seen the thread in the development section.

You are looking at about 5 milliamps when the NFC is ready to read.
Whilst it's a only a very small drain if you had it drawing that all the time, you may find your battery starts to suffer. That's about 400 Hours on the 2100 mAH battery, assuming nothing else is drawing power.
Although I worked it out at only an extra 9 ish hours off the standby time assuming the phone does 200 Hours in stanby @ 10.5mA + 5mA for the NFC chip = 11mA - 2100mAh / 11mA = 190.90 Hours
So not a great loss, but you also have security to think of I guess, if your phone is always able to communicate via NFC you open yourself up to fly-by attacks (not that this kind of thing happens....yet).

[Q] Question about NFC tag activation

Hi guys,
Desire S user here, currently looking for my next phone and seriously considerin the Experia S. I have a question about the NFC operation, which I can't find answered anywhere else.
I understand that the default for the phone is to only interact with NFC tags when the screen is unlocked - so that you can't "accidently launch an application". Is there any way around this. The reason I ask is that, when I get into my car and put the phone in my screen-mounted holder, I will want to activate GPS and Bluetooth and launch Sat-Nav, but don't really want to have to manually unlock the screen on the phone first.
I hope this question makes sense.

There is no way. It is a limitation of the framework AND always having NFC enabled will drain battery.

Thanks for the quick reply - I suspected that would be the case.
How are people finding this whole NFC thing? Does it work well?
I find it very useful especially when I get home or out.. I've set up two tags to work with what I desire.. Unlocking the screen is not that big deal.. Takes a second

You just need to activate the screen, there is no need to unlock the screen.

That's not correct, I do have to unlock it to get it to read the tag. I have just double checked this now and confirm it.
On my Nexus S with Gingerbread I used to be able to just wake the screen and it would read even if locked but when I upgraded that to ICS, unlocking was required. I assume they also introduced this in the later updates to GB that we have on the XS
I agree it is slightly annoying as putting the phone in my car charger wakes up the screen for a second anyway so having it then read the tag was very handy. Now I have to unlock it first.

Imei numbers

I had a problem with my old phone, I gave it to customer support and now got it back after 3 months with a note saying it got switched with a "new" one. Checked the imei number and it is a different one.
What puzzles me is, my old phone had some pretty big scratches on the display and the body and this one has exactly the same scratches! As I don't think they added the scratches on purpose so I don't miss them, I thought maybe they somehow built a new phone into my phones body?? I am quite confused.
But, even more confusing is: the "new" phone has exactly the same problem as the one I sent in! (screen not turning in after standby)
So I am guessing they are trying to trick me as I have no idea how else this can be.
My question now is: how did they change the imei? Did they really just switch a part? Is there a way to change the imei of a phone??
Gesendet von meinem LT26i
The imeid is stored in the phone's memory. For example, on an HTC Desire S it's in partition mmcblk0p7. So it's fairly easy to overwrite if you know where it is found.

So do you think they just changed it and are now telling me they switched it or is it possible that they just changed a part ( motherboard maybe) and that changed the number?
I just want to know if they are trying to fool me

If the scratches are the same and the problem persists, they probably just reflashed the memory or something.

Does that change the imei?
They are claiming they switched the whole phone. I guess it's time to pay the store a visit -.-
Gesendet von meinem LT26i
Changing the IMEI is illegal in most countries in the world and i guess that they could change it by tampering with the memory chip. You should go back to the store and...explain them a few things.

Honor 5X 'clicking' sound?

Hi,
I'm new here, just made an account. I have a question about my new Honor 5X, received today. Just a lot of value for money, very happy with it. But I have a question and I hope this forum can help me.
When I put my phone down, on a table or something, I hear a clicking sound at the top of the phone (at the moment when the phone touches the table). Also, when I tap at the top of the phone, I hear the same clicking sound. It seems like something is moving/loose at the top of the phone. It's clearly audible.
I've been watching around for a few moments today and found some other forums where they told it's connected to the camera of the phone and it's normal. But they also said it normally disappears when the camera is in use. I also tried this, but it doesn't disappear when the camera (front or back) is in use. I know you can't use both camera's at the same time, but I'm not convinced.
So my question to you all: Do you hear the same thing as I do? Can you reconstruct this (so it's normal for this phone)?
Thank you for helping!
P.S.: English is not my native language, so apologies for the spelling.

It is the Camera they all do it to some extent. My HTC M7 did the same thing, nothing to be worried about.
Yes, mine does that too. I think it is either the vibration motor or some camera component. Other causes could be a flex cable since the speaker is up there too or the plastic protector.
It is almost not noticable but it has been doing it since the start and hasn't caused any issues as far as I can tell. It also didn't get worse here, just remained the same.
I wouldn't worry about it too much!
Yes Mine too. Its the Focus sound.

[GUIDE] Increase fingerprint device unlock quota [29 May 2016]

Since I stumbled over several people recently, who actually have not a good fingerprint device unlock quota (none of them used a OnePlus 2 btw.) due to very dry or also very wet or greasy fingers, I thought I have to share my solution with you as well. Maybe some use this solution already, but for the others, here's the simple way how to increase the fingerprint unlock quota.
It's simple as that:
Add your mainly used fingerprints twice or more to ensure a better unlock quota. Try applying with different conditions, like with dry and wet/greasy fingertips.
That's it. The result for others were better and for me (very dry fingers) it even works faster now or at least it feels like a faster detection.
Please share your experience, if you had problems before adding further fingerprints, I'm curious
Simple yet useful. Thanks buddy.
I did this and now my fps is dead when i try to unlock it says fps hardware not working and i cant unlock via code. Clean flashing new rom doesnt fix it...

What i did is to actually register the fingerprint of the edge area of my thumb as another finger. And i agree, it now detect my thumb faster

But you know, that this defect is not caused by adding another fingerprint twice, right? However, pretty annoying that it's broken now.

Display Screen Error - Split screen and start in the middle of the device

Hi guys,
I installed a version of MIUI on my le max 2 and after a few tests my device ended up dying.
I used the unbrick process from unbrick android guides.
After restoring the QFyl version my device had a problem on the screen. The screen is divided and the beginning of the screen is in the middle of the device.
I'm new to device modifications, do you have any idea what might have happened?
Seems display died, is it also much slower? Had same issue with my x800us

In fact the screen remains fluid using the EUI, using cyanogem and mookie it is slower.
I found a rotation change tutorial and thought it was some change in build.prop, but I could not find any properties for it.
I took a print from my phone and seeing the image shows that the screen is normal.
I believe it's something related to the software, but I have no idea what it is.
From your other device I changed the screen and it returned to normal?

Display arrived, issue is gone. Check if you have such flickering within the recovery too, I had it here as well but not so much. Removing was quite easy with razor blade as shown on YouTube videos.
