No dream mate, there was an english review with a girl showing the facerecognition unlock. I haven't received the phone yet, but it should be a setting under the security tab..
afraid not pal...see attached screen shot :-(
would have been cool though!

Yup, the first demo video showed it. I guess it has been removed for security reasons (face recognition isn't really secure). Can't find it in settings here.
I heard it was vulnerable to the good old attack of "hold photo up to camera".
Too much of a gimmick if you ask me tbh.
i would prefer to decide myself if something is secure or not though ...
it seems a bit strange to have a piece of functionality working and then ditch it - gimmicks are an integral part of the sales process. i quite like going through the process of thinking something is cool and incredibly useful only to realise that it's completely pointless after i've used it a couple of times ...
disappointed - perhaps the facial recognition code would have added a few mm to the thickness of the phone like the NFC hardware ...

It's not there. It's just the three standard options: Password, PIN or unlock pattern.

thx man, hmm... now that's weird, i'm on 4.0.4 (the omega rom) and with the S3 there is no chance to read a tag if the device is locked
can somebody confirm this? maybe i should consider a full wipe then

I think op means when the screen lock is on.. Not rooting or sim locked
The phone wont read a tag until the phone is turned on and screen unlocked
I guess its to save power
Do you maybe have a lock pattern or something similar enabled, would make sense to me if it doesn't work with such a feature activated.
Because with the swype to unlock you are i.e. also able to pull notifications down while the screen is locked, with a security lock activated you aren't.

Thx guys for all your answers.
Of course the problem is the locked screen and not any sim lock.
I understand that it does kinda make sense not to accept NFC connections as long as the phone is locked. However, personally I would still prefer to use NFC also if the phone is locked (as it was possible before) - and i think I'm not alone with this.
Looks like you have to play around with your rom to get it working again - the sad part is, I have no clue where to start (well, actually I have no clue at all).

one more doubt with NFC unlock
I've one doubt regarding NFC screen unlock.. I'm worried that I'm giving more pressure to my Nexus S power button . Suppose if I can have a NFC tag which will simply light up the screen when placed on it, On my screen I can have pattern lock /password lock.. so it will be secured, I just want to bypass pressing Power button all the time to check what is happening inside my mobile ( with out rooting and key remap )
I understand why NFC is disabled when locked from a security perspective, especially with things like Google Wallet - someone could buy things with your phone without knowing the PIN.
However I am not using NFC payments and would really like to have the ability to switch profiles by NFC tags. The problem is the convenience of this is somewhat reduced by having to unlock the phone. If it could just be enabled when the screen is on that would not be so bad on the battery.
I know a few months back Paul O'Brien was talking about looking at a hack for this, I don't think he has yet (or will ever have the time). It is not on the new GNex MoDaCo kitchen (IR14). N.B. I did have a GNex before swapping for the wife's new S3

true, the solution is only a few days old - but this was just an information for TwoGunTurtle and all the others in this thread, who have not yet seen the thread in the development section.
You are looking at about 5 milliamps when the NFC is ready to read.
Whilst it's a only a very small drain if you had it drawing that all the time, you may find your battery starts to suffer. That's about 400 Hours on the 2100 mAH battery, assuming nothing else is drawing power.
Although I worked it out at only an extra 9 ish hours off the standby time assuming the phone does 200 Hours in stanby @ 10.5mA + 5mA for the NFC chip = 11mA - 2100mAh / 11mA = 190.90 Hours
So not a great loss, but you also have security to think of I guess, if your phone is always able to communicate via NFC you open yourself up to fly-by attacks (not that this kind of thing happens....yet).

It was repeated all over in the G5 section, the only unlockable version is the european H850.
Also the H830 has root and twrp, but these are the only two models.
Thats dumb.
Sent from my LGUS992 using Tapatalk
One has to realize that the developers who courageously "get root" for us do so on their own time. Not only that, on their own dime as well. In the trial and error process of unlocking the bootloader the risk of nuking their devices is high (and quite a few developers have nuked this model and others). And they go and buy another, so they can continue development. This gets very expensive.
And most importantly, with devices like the G5 - it takes time.
So while it's easy for one to respond "that's dumb", etc - I guess the above points are completely disregarded. Or perhaps not even known in the first place.
Most importantly, we are at the will of the developers. If they feel they are being disrespected, amongst other things - it would not be unreasonable for them to halt development. Please keep all of this in mind.

When using Nova launcher, are you able to unlock the phone without it requesting a pin to be entered?

First of all thank you for responding
Well the point is, with LG stock launcher you can set up pin protection but it works in conjunction with the fingerprint reader meaning that when you unlock the screen with fingerprint phone is not asking for a pin entry. You are however able to double tap to power the screen and then enter pin to unlock if for some reason you do not want to use reader.
Let me ask again Are you able to do mentioned above with Nova and root? Can you maybe test for me

Good grief, what a pain to set that up
Sometimes I can unlock it by just touching it with the finger I set up, but other times I get "Unable to use fingerprint" and have to use the pin. I'd say it's about 50/50
No idea why it sometimes works and other times doesn't, but I'm removing the lock again now ... way too much hassle

Hey man, I'm also using Nova Launcher on my LG G5 H860 (no root tho - obviously - woe is me!), and I use the finger print scanner AND a pattern. I think LG suspect that the fingerprint scanner alone is not enough security, so they make us use a pattern or pin on top of that. At least that's my guess since I was immediately prompted to add the pin, password or pattern after setting up my fingerprints. Also, upon rebooting, EVERY TIME I have to put in my pattern. The fingerprint alone is not enough to gain access.
I'm guessing it would depend on the ROM you use, not particularly the launcher. But let us know how you go... Have you rooted yet?
Nice avatar BTW. \m/

It's actually a backup option I think, in case when fingerprint reader fails. Makes sense
System is not letting other apps take control over the phone even though they are listed as device administrators. It's a new security measure introduced with MM.
Of course everything changes when you have root privileges
I've rooted the phone yesterday. Nova can now unlock the phone with just a fingerprint. Also installed the Viper audio mod and deleted a few system apps.
Right now I'm investigating how to prolong the super brightness mode so it can last longer than lousy two minutes
Glad to hear someone appreciates the sound of perseverance \m/ \m/

The PIN is, just as you said, a backup security measure. If you're rooted you can go and download a fingerprint add on through Xposed.. that means Only your fingerprint is needed to unlock your device.

Don't have G5 so I can't test or even know if what I'm saying is correct, but I was looking through the G5 git tree and saw the super brightness mode seems to be called HL_MODE standing for LGE_HIGH_LUMINANCE_MODE, there's referenced to it in the code, you could probably edit it there then compile and it will most likely work, however it seems it's also with references to the kernel so you probably gonna have to edit both the kernel and ROM simultaneously to make things easier...

Just like everyone else, I, myself had a very terrible problem about custom roms unable to unlock my phone despite successful registration of my fingerprint under settings.
Here's how I was able to resolved it and this is tried and tested to be working in RR and Mokee rom.
See pictures below. Make sure to register your finger in different positions.
1. Default - thumb pointing upward.
2. Thumb facing the left side.
3. Thumb facing the right side.
4. Thumb facing downward. - this I wasn't able to grab picture of but I'm sure you got the idea.
Also, use the part of your thumb as circled below and make sure to use the same thumb for all registration.
Let me know if it worked for you and which rom.
Cheers!

You have tried everything but the mentioned method.
Try registering your finger(any) facing upwards first through out the entire registration process.
Then add a new fingerprint again with the same finger used previously but this time pointing left through out the entire process.
Repeat for remaining two directions(right & downwards) for this same finger.
Enjoy.
Good luck again.

Hey guys,
The 9T pro is my first Ever fingerprint device.
So can someone explain me why there are issues with customroms and the fingerprint Scanner?
There is another variable that seems to affect this device in particular: humidity.
I've noticed that the fingerprint reader behaves differently if your finger is dry or wet.
This will sound stupid but if you want the best performance of the fingerprint reader, try doing the above method, but make sure you register once when your finger is very dry, and once when it is more wet. This will make sure your fp reader will work at its best in every scenario. This is the way I made the fingerprint reader work like this in PE+:
