Come on already - Motorola Droid RAZR

Is Verizon ever going to update these phones or even say anything about updating. I'm so tired of leak after leak the last leak was reported as being rock solid can we not just have ics already ive been holding off because it's so hard to get back from the leaks I didn't want to push it. They are probably trying to make it where we lose root no matter what I hope I'm not the only one itching for ics on razr US version.

I am. We will see it by the end of the month....meh

I put the latam ics on my gsm razr and I must say it is FAR better than the gingerbread version it shipped with

We're all tired of waiting as well. Personally i'm sick and tired of constantly scouring the net in hopes of finding that one glimmer of hope. Frankly speaking it will be here when it gets here and all of the frustration that we all feel regarding the lack of communication will all be forgotten when it arrives. So hang in there, it won't be much longer.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2

Ah but the question is when it gets here will we all be wanting jelly bean next. I am thinking it will be a never ending cycle from now on knowing these phones would run it as well. Why does Verizon not just let the updates happen without all the bloat that is what slows down development on the manufacturer side knowing that the phone and software has to work with the carriers bloat that's why the nexus was good and got ICS out of the box because big red didn't have a hand in it at all just had to work on the network! If there was a better network here locally I'd switch but I'm stuck with them until something better comes along [email protected] crappy carriers!
Sent from my DROID RAZR MAXX using XDA

I doubt we'll be getting jelly bean. Can our phones support it? Probably, but it doesn't make sense for motorola and verizon to keep giving software updates to handsets when their overall goal is sales. Yes it does make customers happy when the devices get updates, but customers are also happy getting a good deal on a new phone too.

In my experience waiting anxiously for the latest/greates OS upgrades..... I've always been underwhelmed. Sometimes, it is even a step backwards for a month or two until things are ironed out correctly. My RAZR works great as is. I have ICS on my transformer tab, and yeah, it is an upgrade, but not that huge of one. Mostly, I really like the ICS browser better. Would like it on my RAZR. Besides that, not sure if it will "really" be all that much different than what we have now. Guess is what I'm saying is I want ICS on my RAZR, but I'm not up in arms about it. Happy enough as is, hoping the upgrade is a slight improvement but until then not a big issue.

The difference between wanting Jelly Bean and wanting ICS is pretty different. We have access to ICS in one way or another right now, whether it be through a leak or through a different device...IE the GNex. ICS is such an upgrade from GB it isn't funny. They are night and day in regards to looks and especially performance. The fact that there has been a promised time frame, on top of people already trying out ICS is making the wait for its release that much harder. Once we have ICS on here, in an official form, I think a lot of people will be happy.

Jelly bean?
Pttt... We won't get it till "android 7 pinkie pie" will come out.
Sent from my XT910 using XDA

I'm sure your all right I'm just sorry it has taken so long for all of us. Yes I'm happy with the way my phone runs now and will wait as long as I have to, but to not hear anything about it from Verizon period kinda pisses me off I know a lot of you probably paid for your phone's and deserve the update more than me I have 40 bucks invested in my previous phone (LG Revolution) it died and I talked them into giving me a brand new razr MAXX for a replacement but I'd still like to have a great operating system that works like ics does. Maybe the 12th is the magic day and they will start rolling it out.

Pssssh...P will be Pecan Pie.

P is totally gonna be Peach Cobbler, let's be real here....

Well, the rumored date is June 12th, 2012. Let's hope for it... and hope that it isn't June 12th 2013 instead.. I just got this phone, gingerbread is great on it but ICS would be even better. I only tried one of the leaks that I could fb back to .181, and it was okay but hopefully ICS comes out soon

I'm really looking forward to the OTA, but only because I am hoping for the rumored unlocked bootloader (which I doubt) and for the developer community to start kicking out some bad ass ROM's for it. I am sure a month after the update comes I will be looking for a new ROM. The developers here are awesome and they always seem to add the things that are missing. So just a huge thank you to the XDA community and all the awesome developers. You all have made owning an Android phone such a fun and rewarding experience.
Crossing my fingers for 6/12 so I can flash from 4.0.3 to the real ICS and see what you all can do with it.

Do the ics leaks have that multitasking button like gnex does? I have seen the on screen menu button. Maybe capacitive menu button will bring up multitasking?

I had to watch some youtube videos to see what you were asking, but yes, it does. It has a slight lag to it, but it works. I think it is where you hold the home key and it brings up all your recent apps?
Edit: Ha! A little more research and as it turns out, you can close apps by swiping it using this option. Flippin' cool!

Is the Razr getting a lot of Dev love?

I'm getting rid of my Droid 3 already and am trying to decide between the (coming soon) Droid 4 or the Galaxy Nexus. The Droid 4 is basically the same as the Razr but with a keyboard, which I love, but I'm wondering if the keyboard is a big enough trade-off for the Dev support...which the Galaxy Nexus is ALREADY getting TONS of.
Any indication of CM7 or CM9 being worked on by Devs for the Razr? If it works for the Razr, there's no doubt it'll work for the Droid 4...similar to how all Bionic themes/ROMs can be easily ported over to the Droid 3.
Thanks in advance.
Well the razr still has locked bootloader and all that ****e, so until ICS the razr won't see that much love, but we have root and a couple of good devs already here. Also the Galaxy Nexus ain't that much really, had it for 4 days and back with the razr

Yea? Could you give me some insight on the display differences? I know the qHD pentile is always crucified when compared to the SuperAMOLED, but I'm curious as to how much of a difference the AMOLED has. I've looked up countless picture comparisons online, but they truly don't do either of the displays any justice. Since you owned it for a bit, could you elaborate on it for me?
Also, what other factors made you go with the Razr? You're just the person I was looking for =)
Thanks in advance.

I can tell you know that my first 2 razrs suffered big time with the black blotches, I got that pissed off I got the Nexus, after fiddling with it for 4 days it just didn't feel right, plastic and just felt crap, screen was amazing and ICS was very responsive, but I got the razr from day 1 and wanted to give it another go so I ordered another, this one is perfect in the screen and Motorola have done a good job on this phone, I think it feels good, looks the biz and the display is cracking, in other words I wanted to believe in this phone and it's delivered, at last

I've been battling back and forth on this...what to do when the GN comes out. I really like the Razr but there's one major deal that really bugs me...two, actually. The locked bootloader and it has a issue in the Android sys called 'suspend' that is killing the battery life. It could be so much better if it didn't have that issue but batt life is a huge deal especially with these smart phones that get so much use. I love the screen, love the build quality, how thin the phone is. Bought a killer cover for the phone from Verizon that has perfect grip to it, perfect size and a kickstand on the back that folds up when not in use. Really love the size of it! It's a kickin' phone but will it get Developer love like the GN will? Decisions decisions....
The Bootloader being locked is temporary. The suspend battery issue may not be an issue or it may be fixed if it is. If you like the RAZR and especially like it more than the GN then software shouldn't really be a buy factor as it will drastically change in the near future.

I have the same problem(screen) but I can live with it, I guess. Sometimes it disturb, but there is no challenger for it. HTC makes too identical phones and Sense sucks. Galaxy Nexus is too plastic and soft design makes me sick. But anyways this AMOLED is awesome! I can forgive these black "ink-marks".

Thinking about switching from a Nexus

So I have cracked the screen on my Galaxy Nexus for a second time. I am thinking about getting the razr maxx with the insurance instead of another nexus. I was hoping you all could give me some straight forward feedback about the device. For example, is the battery life really that great? What is development like here on xda. How is the screen? Call clarity and so forth. Thank you all in advance and I appreciate your time for reply.

If you are used to flash junk and customize your phone a lot. Keep your nexus.
Call quality on RAZR/maxx superior. Camera better on RAZR. Battery is outstanding on Maxx.
You might feel awkward holding edgy RAZR vs smooth nexus.

All I really want is cm 9 at most root at the very least. Do you know if either of those are possible?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I have prob 5 friends w modded nexuses. The screen is sharper on the nexus but much easier to read in any kind of light from me on the maxx. The battery if amazing. I can avg 5 hrs screen on time on 3g alone. The camera is actually much better than I originally thought and takes nice pictures very easily but no camera is as fast as the nexus...although I have only seen a stock nexus actually work correctly in the camera Dept.
I miss ics as I have had it on many phones since last oct but the ics leak is good for the RAZR. Still great battery life there. I rooted mine and froze a bunch of apps today that I don't use but I get the same battery life whether I freeze them or not.
One mild complaint that you may have is the RAZR gallery has a terrible pinch zoom bug. I use quickpic for my gallery and froze the stock gallery along w a lot of other stuff.
In the end its a phone. Calls are clear. Reception is great. And it really last all day. No rebooting all the time. No errors. No problems here. I like that.

Having never owned a Nexus I cannot compare the two but can offer my opinions of the MAXX as it compares to many Android phones from my past. The battery is simply amazing, best I could have ever hoped for. I can abuse my phone (granted that term is subjective) throughout the day and still have some juice left when I go to bed at night. My dad only uses his for calls and his lasts 3-4 days consistantly.
The screen is OK. IMO it is far inferior to the GSII that I came from. If you look close enough you can see a slight screen door effect that looks rather grainy. Not as bad as my Photon was, but still not as good of a screen as I have seen in other phones.
Motorola phones are not known for having a big dev community. I saw a lot more dev activity when I had an EVO 4G, EVO 3D and GSII. That may be the deal breaker for you if you are looking for much more than an out of the box experience.
Having said all of that, if you want an extremely solid phone, then the MAXX can deliver that. My experience in reception is much better than anything I ever owned on Sprint or Verizon and I live in an area with great coverage.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

I would love a gsm maxx razr, now it's only 4 USA and I'm out of the borders.
I like razr, gotcha XT910 in december. Bought it because its amazing hardware , but I can't say I'm happy stuck in 2.3.5 GB due locked bl. Others devices in same categorie like SGII, Arc S,, and HTC now are running ICS flawless. To us, we can.only hope get hands on ICS by Q2,, at least.
Also, this is my second razr, and tomorrow I'll leave it to motorola service center again. I've a reason to be disapointed.
Have top phones since 90's and this is far away my best phone ever. Moved to android (came from 'siri' phone) because it's very popular in Brazil, and overall razr design. But you need luck to get a razr with no problem at all, at least, those made here, all LatAm, have to say. I dont see guys from XT912 (you have one right?) complain' about it.
May be too late indeed to motorola unlock bl, SGSIII is on the way with a 1.8 Quade core....
The AdamOtler vdd seems a bit radical, but he made the point. Cannot comment an opinion without reffer to it.

Although the ICS leaks and ROMs are really good. They are not flawless. And won't be until the official release. Even the devs admit that. They all have bugs, albeit very minor bugs.
The big things for me was the HDMI out and the micro sd card. If you get a maxx then you get the awesome battery. While the dev for the phone is low right now, ICS is just around the corner and with a boot workaround here/being worked on I think the razr is the better phone.
both are great devices. so it depends what you want to do with each.
if mods, hacks, roms, flashing are your thing - Galaxy Nexus
limited tinkering - moto razr.
having said that, razr has better battery life. very lightweight. better camera too. plus storage is expandable.
I had the Nexus before I had my Razr Maxx.... Night and day. Radio was garbage in comparison on the Nexus, always bad reception. Battery life is SO much better. Razr feels much more solid. Aside from ICS, the nexus honestly seemed like a piece of junk when I got this.
Is cm9 available yet? Can you even flash custom roms?

Cause no Samsung phone has ever had problems. Give this video a break as Adam has no clue about the razr. He doesnt dev for it so he has no reason to talk ****. Just because they built it this way does not make it any less disposable than other phones. If it breaks and its your fault, then guess what, you fed up. If its not your fault you get a replacement or switch.

You're comparing the average iPhone users to the most informed Android users. The average Android user has never even heard of Ice Cream Sandwich.
I do think it is ridiculous that the RAZR was advertised as "ICS upgradeable," and six months later there is still no official date set for release. I don't understand how Motorola even got away with advertising the phone that way. They should have said "Gingerbread, with the possibility that before your contract is up in two years there may be an update to ICS."

[Q] Where are the JB leaks?

So if rumor has it we will be getting JB on our Droid Razr's and suspected time frames are saying Q'1? http://www.droid-life.com/2012/10/1...-which-phones-will-get-the-update/#more-86510
Question is where are the leaks? With ICS the leaks were out for months before its initial release! I'm ready to start seeing real moto leaks! :good:
But also in other news Rumor over on Droid-Life is that the Razr/Maxx may be recieving 4.2.2 a.k.a. KLP Q'2/3
so are we going to bypass JB and go straight there? http://www.droid-life.com/2012/10/2...-and-key-lime-pie-update-schedule/#more-87108

All I know is if verizon doesn't want us to keep our phones then don't sell any good phones!!! If they want us to upgrade phones then don't charge us $200 flipping dollars for a new phone every couple of months or full price!! You sell better quality phones then your going to have to deal with people keeping them longer!! Moto has always made great quality phones software was a little lacking but now this RAZR is awesome both software and hardware I plan on keeping it as long as possible!!! Just hope the devs stay on it.

So f*** verizon and others like them.
Soon will have 4.2.2 on it
Well anyone could have JB on their RAZR but right now until someone gets everything working in a rom I'm afraid I have to stay away! ICS great I just hope they get everything ironed out quickly for JB!!!

I agree somewhat but I think we should use jellybean 4.2 instead of 4.1 which is as old as dirt now that 4.2 will be out this week... I never like being behind. I think vzw should give us beta access to Key lime pie as well.

4.2 software update?

I have been hearing rumors about HTC going under and the DNA not receiving any future updates.
I need to know if anybody has some Information about this because I just bought this phone and if I am not going to receive updates I might as well return it.

If the phone doesn't do what you want it to do now, by all means return it.

Here's a good thing to live by and you'll be happy...buy a phone for what it is not what it will be
I Iike the phone now, but why would other manufacturers devices get supported and mine not. Like the galaxy s3 will mostikely receive android 4.2. This phone should be due for the 4.1.2 update soon.

Thats manufacture dependent, samsung isn't the best one to update their phones,
HTC isn't neither that good, i don't think non of them are good in the "update" industry.
due to the age of this device i would say yes on android 4.2. however when is another question due to HTC not giving any good information (neither does any company)
4.2 blows. When I got it on my nexus 7 I immediately went through a huge process to downgrade back to 4.1. What features of 4.2 do you want that can't be done on 4.1? Multiple users? Doing that on the n7 made the entire device lag so horribly

What was so bad about 4.2 exactly? First I've heard about this (I've mainly heard good things about 4.2).

There are quite a few issues that Google needs to fix before I let 4.2 on my phone

yeah just go on the N7 forums and read everybody complaining about it.
stock AOSP blew because the lockscreen sucked. the new font with the randomly bolded hour is the ugliest thing google has ever done. on top of that, every time you powered the screen on, the sides would flash to remind you that you can add widgets...so everytime you turned it on it lookedl ike it was in edit mode or something.
besides that, multi user control was stupid and lagged the device out badly..multiple reports of this, and once people deleted the second account, it was fine.
terrible battery life, longer time to charge, random reboots..
on top of that, the pulldonw on the tablets was awful because left side was notifications, and right side was quick settings..but many of us are right handed, and use our right thumbs for dropdown, so doing the dropdown would always bring down quicksettings. very annoying. on a phone it wasn't an issue though,s ince you needed two fingers to drop down quick settings.
besides that though, people were just complaining of random lag and bugs..apparently 4.2 on that thing was a complete f-up. and they still never fixed the scrolling bounceback issue..ridiculous!
Also if you have any apps that toggle airplane for you, you can say goodbye to that in 4.2
Ok!
I was just wondering because I bought the phone with good hopes for it. I don't want to invest in a phone that will not receive any future support.

Wanted to tip you over into 1700 on the meter. Oh well, one shy.
Thanks for the tip about not rushing to update when available.
Yeah guys, I'm saying we had some pretty bad experiences on the n7...hopefully it's different but don't hold your breath. This phone runs amazing, what more do you want out of it right now? I say wait until key lime pie for the next big upgrade.

the best thing for the OP to do is return the phone.

YOU said that if YOUR phone doesn't get updates YOU might as well return it. No one jumped to conclusions, they just read the op.
